Hah yeah I know I am also a huge malazan fan! We have a seperate thread on malazan in the entertainment forum. Ammanas was how Shadowthrone was referred to in Gardens of the Moon (I cant remember if it was mentioned in the other books. Also if you love Iron Bars make sure you read Stonewielder if you already haven't!)
-
Oathbringer is the story that we need, but not the story that we deserve. But seriously, there have been mixed reaction to this book so you are not alone. I liked the book, but it is not perfect by any means. Nice screen name by the way IronBars

I might do so then, thanks. I don't mind messages that differ than my own as long as it isn't too...I am struggling thinking of the right word but clumsy, blatant, angry, intolerant, in your face, etc.

So is this movie just a good superhero movie or it is a platform to promote black rights/grievances. I have not seen the movie and the question is asked in earnest.

Entertainment Reviews(and Debate)
Ammanas replied to Modal Seoul's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I saw the movie Samson tonight. It was pretty good even if it felt a little long. I never thought that H.P Lovecraft would help me to understand the Bible though. In the movie they mentioned several times the Philistene God Dagon. I know all about the Dagon from Lovecraft's story's: http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/d.aspx http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/soi.aspx -
So correct me if any of this is wrong, but Brandon wrote the Reckoner books for Random House publishing (who were expecting a new trilogy that was to be The Apocalypse Guard). Does Brandon still plan on giving them three books? Or is he just going to offer a apology and say one book, Skyward, is the best he can do until he figures out The Apocalypse Guard?

I'm not normally into nature shows, but I love River Monsters! I'm on season 4 right now and it's got mystery, a look a different cultures around the world, suspense, and creatures I never have even heard of. The host also, except for I think once, always finds what he is looking for by the end of the episode.

Hah well I guess if we are dissapointed about a "secret project" and if it isn't what we expect its our own fault. If a author says he is writing a particular book/series and then says the project is on hold indefinitely, because their is some flaw the author can't figure out, then the onus is on the writer (not that I am interested in blaming Mr. Sanderson. I have nothing, but respect for him and being upfront and honest about things). It just seems more like a CYA thing...and believe me I work for a school district so I completely understand CYA.
-
After the fiasco of The Apocalypse Guard is everything going to be a secret project now? Honestly, I would get it if he wanted to go this route. Perhaps he is a little gun shy now and doesn't want to get people's hopes up and not be able to deliver.

I read a good one the other day. I will spoil it (but only for length)

Where did you see a 2020 release date? I think, best case scenario, is a 2022 release date. Last I heard he said he would only go back to Kharkanus after the Karsa books. He is writing the first one now so hopefully a 2019 for that one and he releases a book a year after that. I did read in a interview that he said the Kharkanus books were very difficult for him to write, but hopefully the Karsa books will build up momentum for him. Edit: I saw a fan mentioned 2020 on facebook to him, but have no idea where that date was pulled from

Your not missing out on much B.K. I am originally from Texas and my wife can't stand the heat and said she will never live in Texas or the South (I say to explain why I am not living further south). I am living in Colorado and hate the snow; it is cold, it hurts, it causes a lot of vehicular accidents, you have to spend time shoveling the walk and chipping off ice on your windshield. Never move north of 37 degrees North Latitude would be my advice to anyone.

The Cosmere stuff is all kind of going on in the background and isn't necessary to enjoy Sanderson books. If you are looking for a introduction to The Cosmere I recommend checking this page out: https://coppermind.net/wiki/Cosmere But like I said before, I really would not worry about a specific reading order of mixing and matching different Sanderson series (to be honest I have never even heard of such a list. Not to say such a one doesn't exist...) Oh and by the way; welcome to the 17th Shard!

Is It Worth it to Read Aether of Night?
Ammanas replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in Aether of Night
I hope this doesn't come across as sarcastic, but I always recommend people read it and find out for themselves. If you don't like it than drop it and read something else. Sometimes I will revisit a series/ book I dropped and find out time has made a difference.- 13 replies

I read The Facefaker's Game! I though it was a really good book! Unfortunately it did not sell well and the author said he probably will not be able to write a sequel and started writing a different series. *ahem stands on soapbox* It is situations like this that drive me crazy when a person says Martin has ruined them and they only read series that are completed. Its important to support authors, who publish quality work, or publishers will dump them. *steps down from soapbox*

So what are some authors that have some unique prose that you enjoy reading? Please share a specific paragraph, or so, that we can see what you mean. I will share two examples: 1. The first author is Clark Ashton Smith. I call him "the weaver of lost dreams" because that what I feel like when I read his writing. His style is very unique, and not for everyone, but I will share a example so you can see for yourself It spoilered for length and is the beginning of one of his stories. 2. The second is Glen Cook who writes in a very clipped stoccatto way, but it works for his stories. Here is the beginning of one of his most famous books The Black Company

Welcome! If you are into in depth fantasy worlds I recommend the Malazan series by Erikson and Esslemont (I also recommend starting with Erikson's Gardens of the Moon and read his 10 book main series first). Glad to have you on the Shard!

[OB] Can anyone give me some info you caught about Shallan
Ammanas replied to Dragon Reborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
If you are doing a report you might mention that she is what you call a "dynamic character". If you are looking for just details about her life I recommend the coppermind article about her (although it's not completely up to date): https://coppermind.net/wiki/Shallan_Davar -
I feel like he has been quiet this year. Perhaps he is scheming up a surprise for us? To respond to the first post, I feel that if a author can publish a book a year then he is doing a great job. Brandon is getting older and his growing popularity makes new demands on his time. I think he has been the ubermensch, that Nietzche dreamed of, for so long we have gotten a bit spoiled.

You arn't going to start calling it Slog of Storms are you? Seriously though if you want to skip to part three, where the action picks up, you probably wont be missing much. I read it on release date, but from what I remember you just need to know:

Should You Be Able to Edit Quotes?
Ammanas replied to MistbornAlpaca's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Sometimes Sharders refer to about five different people or things in their post. It is much more efficient, and less confusing, to edit their quote to refer to only a specific section of their post. It is fine the way it is. My two cents at least. -
The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Ammanas replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Even though, uncharacteristically, the Patriots played a sloppy game I usually just refer to them as "the machine." I imagine this is what it felt like to viewers watching John Henry beat the steam engine. -
I'm late to the party on this, but Third Eye Blind is still releasing music and they still write and perform some of the best songs out there today! Their newest album:
