  1. Probably the Feist Riftwar books starting with Magician:Aprentance and Magician: Master. Even though as I get older I can see some of the flaws in them I still love them and reread them occasionally.
  2. He's written a ton of stuff. The Black Company, Garrett PI, Instrumentalities of the Night, are probably his best known series. He also has a really common sounding name so some people think that they have heard of him but it turns out they haven't
  3. My favorite series is probably Malazan, but there is a lot of stuff that the author writes that I am not really a fan of. My favorite author is probably Glen Cook. There are several individual books that I would recommend from other authors, but speaking for the authors complete collection it has to be him. I have read all of his over 50 books and though he is usually a 4 out of 5 star author and does occasionally get into the 5 star territory. I feel like everything is writes is very solid even if it isn't extraordinary. I love how he really gets into the minds of his characters and voices their deepest fears and longings with many of them similar to my own personal feeling, but I never see expressed elsewhere. The Black Company series is the best place to start for newcomers. I also love how in many of his books there will be enough plot in 300 pages that would take place over 5 books or so in another series by a different author.
  4. That Dalinor was responsible for his wife's death, but I think a lot of people got that right. I wasn't right about the Tukar God-King being a Dakhor monk; man that would of been a awesome plot twist...oh well.
  5. I think it was the interview that @Madness shared where Erikson said the Karsa trilogy will be in the same style as the first three books (Gardens through Memories of Ice). So good news there I believe!
  6. I think all the clashes of information is due to two reasons: 1. His background has a archeologist. History changes all the time based on new information. 2. The author really doesn't care about getting facts straight. He is more concerned with messages and theames. He has said if he focused on tinelines and lining up details it would cease to be fun for him and he wouldn't want to write anymore. On a sidenote the self indulgence and for lack of a better word pompous attitude of this book is at times amazing and other times absurd. Here is the first page for a taste
  7. Currently listening to Senlin Ascends by Bancroft (courtesy of Overdrive through my library). This book is really something else! The best way to describe it is to quote from another reviewer, Adam Werthead, who said, "It's a steampunk romance with airships and sky-pirates. It's a character-focused slice of the New Weird. It's a Biblical allegory (...maybe?). It's a science fiction novel set inside a Big Dumb Object created by peoples unknown for scientific purposes (...perhaps?). It's a black comedy of manners, a dashing adventure, and a devastating deconstruction of people, places and tropes. It's what you'd get if China Mieville and Christopher Priest collaborated on a novel and both brought their A-game, and it was then adapted for film by Studio Ghibli. " This book started out really slow, but something happened along the way to have me care about and enthralled by the adventures of Thomas Senlin (who startef out as one of the more boring protagonists, but changes throughout the story)
  8. Speaking of Not-Apsalar don't forget about Lostara Yil who is also known as Not-Not-Apsalar I cant even compile a list of favorites though...it seems like whatever character makes a appearance steals the show.
  9. I have always liked the idea of a entire musical album being united and would like to hear from others their favorites. I will share my top three 1. The Alchemy Index by Thrice. Each element (Fire, Water, Air, Earth) is represented by a CD and the Earth Album is acoustic guitar, Fire is loud with electric guitar etc..The last song on each CD is each element actually speaking to the audience. The entire thing is brilliant. 2. The Hazards of Love by The Decemberists. It tells a long story regarding two lovers, a evil queen, a forest and shapeshifting. 3. Ok Computer by Radiohead. Each song is about a different person in a science fiction universe with the last song about someone getting into a car crash and the first song about someone being saved by a airbag in a crash and the sheer joy of being alive.
  10. I know who you are taking about. There are certain audiobooks that you can only get by official means if you are legally blind (I think the official title for this is National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped) and the fourth narrator does these type of books. Michael Krammer does a audiobook of Warbreaker that also falls into the category.
  11. I really like the Esslemont narrator John Banks. I wasn't fan of the Kharkanus natrators. For Erikson the narrator for the first three books is good. The narrator for books 4-10 is very talented, but struggles with books with a huge cast like malazan (he does a much better job with the Gentleman Bastard series).
  12. Did it lose you because you couldn't remember the two previous books or you thought it was a drop in quality? I liked it because the reader finally got some much overdue information on a lot of stuff. Tad Williams has a gift of writing about basically nothing...the plot barely crawls forward in the first three books but the author somehow makes to read enjoyable; from what I understand Williams slams on the accelerator in the final book and I am looking forward to that.
  13. Super Mario 64 is a lot of fun.
  14. I love the smell of napalm in the morning- Lord Ruler It is a better thing I do today than I have ever done before- Hrathen The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic -Odium or The Blackthorne at his most bestial point of his life.
  15. You're probably right..the entire series between the two authors starts to blur together at times. The Azath does span multiple worlds/universes (I believe that we found this out way back in Deadhouse Gates when they enter into a Azath House); I personally believe that the Azathanai came from these other worlds/universes via the Vitr. I have never heard other fans comment on this though so if anyone has heard differently let me know.
  16. @Toaster Retribution Its american slang; basically means someone is a jerk.
  17. I liked the John Carter movie and have been meaning to read them. Are all eleven or so worthwhile or does it take a dip in quality after book five where he starts to follow different characters outside of the Carter family?
  18. There are several mysterious almost godlike creatures, like Caladan Brood, Draconus etc in the series that are Azathanai. The came from the Vitr sea that transports them from...other locations. You get a little more information about the Vitr in Orb, Sceptre, Throne by Esslemont.
  19. Finished Shadowrise and now I have to wait until May for me to read Shadowheart by Tad Williams due to my self imposed allowance. I guess I could get a library copy, but the print is so small I have to do the Kindle copy for this series. I am excited to see how it all ends on the fourth and final book. In the meantime I am reading Old Mars edited by George R.R. Martin and Dozois. This book is a delight and filled with new short stories based on the old pulp mars stories; I am a big fan of The Martian stories by Ray Bradbury and its fun to see similar stories in this collection. I may be the only person wishing Martin would do more of these anthologies he edits; I have only read the first three Song of Ice and Fire books and that was back in 2001 I believe....I have already come to terms with the idea that his series will not be completed so he might as well continue with these fun short story collections.
  20. I like Audible because the player and controls are so easy to use on ones phone. It is also the cheapest option because they have deals throughout the year (on prime day the subscription is $7.99 a month and black friday it is $4.99 etc)
  21. It does clear up. I don't believe it is a spoiler to say they are just Tiste at this point...no Andii, Edur or Liosan. If you can't remember I would refresh your memory of what exactly the Azathanai are...I think it was touched upon in the main series, but it is more clear here. I actually thought Forge was decent, but Fall of Light was pure navel-gazing. I am interested on your take on the two books whatever they will be.
  22. Do you mean David Gemmel's troy books or were you referring to Illium?
  23. Ah Ok then! Another more toned down series is the Empire Trilogy By Feist and Wurts. The first one is Daughter of the Empire and it is a trilogy.
  24. I think you are looking for more of young adult books, but if you don't mind a more grown up novel Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie is really good.
  25. So in chapter 68 of Oathbringer Wit, when speaking to Shallan, mentions that the seven previous times he got involved in religion ended in disaster. The first question is if he he was just making a joke or was he serious? If he was serious what are the seven attempts? I would hazard a guess and say one of the attempts was in The Emperor's Soul and the theft of the moon scepter. Perhaps the other time was whatever he was doing in Hero of Ages in the courtyard the Vin feels like she should avoid him? He led a band of refugees in Well of Ascension perhaps that was the third time? I need the experts to set me straight! Also I didn't know if my question is a Oathbringer spoiler or not and the policy regarding such question in the Cosmere Q and A section. If I violated the rules please accept my apologies and make whatever edits you feel is necessary.
