I just finished Orb, Sceptre, Throne and barely started Blood and Bone. I am really digging the jungle environment...a setting that is vastly underutilized in the fantasy genre! Almost all of Orb, Sceptre, Throne was all killer and no filler so hopefully Blood and Bone continues this!

Was it just me or was this the first State of Sanderson where Brandon looked...mortal. Don't get me wrong he has still had a great output and looks like he will be busy next year, but not as much as in past years. I guess I am just spoiled I guess, because he still has more output than the average writer.

Well @AngelEy3 I wouldn't go so far as to say not to read it, but the Kharkanus books are kind of like the Malazan Silmarillion in the sense that it is a origins story and a very stuffy book. It is also a work of a brilliant mind, but sometimes brilliant does not necessarily translate to fun. That being said I think you will like it more than I did judging from how you reacted to Dust of Dreams.

I know you were not looking for my opinion, but I think the cave scene served two purposes. 1. It drew attention the parallells of Rey and Luke. They both had to descend into the cave and face their temptations/demons. 2. I think the cave is the dark sides best shot of corrupting the jedi. If they can withstand that then they will withstand anything and not go down the path on Anakin and Kylo Ren. I think facing down that temptation is a important step in a jedis maturation process. I think the dark forces in the cave were hoping that not showing her a portrayal of her parents would add to her agony and doubt which would lead to her going to the dark side.

If you are more in the mood for a philosophy textbook then read Kharkanus. If you are in the mood for a fast paced adventure then read Dancers Lament and Deadhouse landing.

I picked them up on the same sale! I really like the narrator John Banks; he has a lot of great voices and range. You can't beat the books going for barely over five dollars either.

Definitely willing to give it a chance, but if they use Ewoks to defeat the First Order and Kylo Ren gets thrown down a silo I will walk out the theater!

Yes, thanks @Briar King! JJ Abrams is like the Columbus of the Harry Potter movies (the director first two). He will play it safe and the result will be uninspiring...lets hope he will prove me wrong with the next one.

So I liked it much more than the Force Awakens! I have always felt that everyone felt a lot of pressure to make The Force Awakens awesome, because of the mostly subpar prequels, that they borrowed heavily from episode four (including lets blow up the death star) which was a big mistake. I felt like The Last Jedi finally asserted some individuality and I walked away mostly happy from it. It will be interesting the path that Kylo Ren takes...I honestly have no idea what path he will take for the next one. It was kind of rediculous that Fen and that Asian girl (sorry I forgot her name) survived while on the enemy ship surrounded by 100's of hostile soldiers, but heh that's just Star Wars; take off your reality cap and just enjoy the ride.

So I thought this was kind of fun, but there is a evidently a a science fiction version of Stormlight Archives our there called Warhammer Age of Sigmar. It has some thing called the Stormcast Eternals which demigod-like warriors imbued with a portion of Sigmar's godly power and clad in magical armour made of sigmarite. This is a completely new faction created for the game, similar to the Space Marines of Warhammer 40,000. They were created by Sigmar with the aid of Grungni to be the ultimate weapon against the forces of Chaos. They are heroic members of the mortal races which Sigmar handpicked from the realms before their death in battle for various reasons, remolding them completely into immensely large and powerful warriors. They are immortals in the sense that, upon death, they are transformed into energy that can be reused to recreate themselves. Here is the basic plot: Following the destruction of the original Warhammer world by the forces of Chaos, Sigmar floated aimlessly through outer space, clutching onto the metal core of the previous Warhammer world. After a long passage of time, he was rescued and befriended by the great celestial dragon Dracothion, who led Sigmar to the "Mortal Realms": eight planes of existence connected by portals called "realmgates", one of which was bestowed upon Sigmar to rule by Dracothion. Souls were drawn to these realms, with some being survivors from the previous world and others new. Sigmar forged alliances with these peoples and their respective gods as civilization was re-established in the Mortal Realms. This growth was short-lived, however, as the Forces of Chaos struck again, invading the Mortal Realms. Led by Archaon, the Chaos dominated seven of the eight Mortal Realms, sparing only Sigmar's realm, Azyr. The civilizations and alliances Sigmar strove to make were ultimately destroyed in the Chaos invasion. Angered, Sigmar created the mighty Stormcast Eternals, and, with them, led the fight against the Chaos, thus beginning the Age of Sigmar. I don't record all the books that I read on goodreads (I usually use it to leave reviews for more obscure authors that need the positive feedback. My favorite book (I could only narrow it down to four) would probably be Caliban's War by Corey, Kings of the Wyld by Eames, The Blinding Knife by Weeks or Deadhouse Landing by Esslemont (Oathbringer gets a honorable mention but suffered from some pacing issues i.m.o). The longest would be Noble House at 1376 pages. The shortest would be Legend of the Galactic Heroes 4: Strategy at 272 pages.

Rereading Matter by Iain M. Banks. Its one of the better Culture novels in my opinion, but it usually seems to fly under the radar when people talk about there favorite culture novels; I think thats because its Special Circumstances heavy and doesn't offer any of the glimpses into the day to day life of The Culture. I am currently about 75 pages in and am really enjoying it; its been several years so I hardly remember any of it. Its both a blessing and a curse to have a bad memory and rereads feel almost like the first time. Here is how I would rank the culture novels (I know most people are higher on Use of Weapons than I am, but I appreciate the unconventional way of telling the story even if it didn't work for me): 1. Player of Games/Surface Detail 2. Hydrogen Sonata 3. Matter/Look to Windward 4. Excessions 5. Use of Weapons 6. Consider Phlebas 7. Inversions (Only technically a Culture Novel. I was tempted to leave it off the list)

I seem to remember that in the book Wade was chubby with bad acne. Looks like they chose some heartthrob for the role instead. While I understand they want to appeal to the female audience, I am dissapointed with their decision. That being said movies are interpretations of books so I am expecting some changes.

I second Dresden. The story really doesn't get going until book 4 (the first three do have their moments though), but once it does it is quite the ride! The narrator is fantastic, its only one person, but sounds like a full cast!

The Lightbringer audiobooks by Weeks are fantastic (narrated by Simon Vance). The fifth and last one will be released next year. On another note you got to listen to The Spiders War....wraps everything up rather nicely, but leaves the door open for further adventures.
