Sounds like the start to a great book, "Chaos hovered over our heads like the fist of a angry God"

I always go through Audible.

[OB] For those who have read Oathbringer...
Ammanas replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Did you check out the review Chaos gave in the news section? There is also a review on Tor's website that was posted recently. All of the spoiler free reviews I have read seem to like it. That being said the people that have received early copies are people that are bloggers that have written favorable reviews in the past or have helped in the editing process and are, of course, fans. I have not read it, but I think we will all be very satisfied. -
@Steeldancer I've been waiting for about a month to gain the rank of Seer just so I could use that line on this thread! Makes my life seem kind of sad, but it's true!
-
@maxal My spouse is pretty much the same, but I get more interest from her because I only bring up "the storm books/Sanderson" every couple of weeks or so. I'm sure if it was more frequent my enthusiasm would be greeted with much more disinterest. I've already come to terms with the facts that epic things could be happening in my books and she's just walking around like the world hasn't just changed!

@Storyspren I don't know anything about audiobooks on itunes, but I think this is what you want https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/oathbringer/id1198279804?mt=11

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Ammanas replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Looking for a job has to be one of the most soul crushing endeavors. I have a degree in teaching, clean record, and 5 years experience in being a security officer and I was told that I was, "Not qualified to be a school security guard." Its true what they say that its not what you know, but who you know. Best of luck! -
Speaking of the Oathbringer audiobook it looks like the official length is 55 hours and two minutes. Longer than Words of Radiance (48 hrs 15 min) and Way of Kings (45 hrs 37 min).

I think it took me three tries. I didn't find any of the characters annoying, in fact I always felt a connection with Lightsong, but for the most part it didn't seem that interesting. Some of my favorite books took more than one try to get into Lightbringer, The Expanse, and a few others. I ended up really enjoying Warbreaker (also known as the red headed step child of the Cosmere. No mention in Arcanum Unbounded; are you kidding!).

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

Thank you for your sacrifice. Love the Coppermind! -
@mariapapadia Maybe the bookstore is expecting you to overcome three tests before they will give you Oathbringer. The three challenges being: the Breath of Adonalsium, the Word of Adonalsium, and the Path of Adonalsium. (In case this just sounds like crazy talk the precedent was set in Indiana Jones and Last Crusade)

[OB] Tor "spolier free" beta reader review not spoiler free
Ammanas replied to PunSpren's topic in Stormlight Archive
@maxal I've actually been avoiding the reddit threads. Someone mentioned that a lot of people in Europe have already received copies of the book and there was some discussion over there. I'm almost positive that I got this information on the westeros forum so it could be wrong. Thanks for the clarification though. -

@mariapapadia I am curious were you spoiled while browsing the reddit threads? You have to be careful over there....oh well I am sure there are lots of other great surprises just waiting for you in Oathbringer! -

I find that unless I have reference I cannot remember something. I have already forgotten what the article has listed, but perhaps my memory is worse than, or at least works differently, than yours. -
[OB] Full Oathbringer book discussion opens November 14th
Ammanas replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's hard to believe a cool sharder like you could be related to someone so lame (no offense intended). I only have a brother-in-law that is into this series (this is one of the few things that we talk about and can agree upon. It's not like we hate each other but he is my complete opposite on just about everything). -
Anyone care to explain the magic or "Investiture" here?
Ammanas replied to Quickbronze's question in Cosmere Q&A
This website can answer this question and similar ones. Possible spoilers though. https://coppermind.net/wiki/Investiture -
[OB] Tor "spolier free" beta reader review not spoiler free
Ammanas replied to PunSpren's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is Tor's new flagship series and biggest money maker; they will continue to heavily promote it. I wish they would put this much effort into promoting their lesser known authors (like Marc Turner who could really use some publicity) but C'est la vie as the french would say. I get completely what you are saying though! @Zea mays -
[OB] Tor "spolier free" beta reader review not spoiler free
Ammanas replied to PunSpren's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Zea mays I think everything surrounding Oathbringer is unnecessary. The extravagant cover art, releasing about a quarter of the book online, the many articles etc. I just think everything surrounding this book is a lot of fun even if it is unnecessary -
@Dani da Mano I also had trouble getting into they Way of Kings initially. Trying the audiobooks, for me, made a huge difference and it is now my favorite Sanderson series. Perhaps that might help? Also welcome to the 17th Shard!

@quadbox Even if a author has no idea and throws out drafts I would still appreciate posts, perhaps once a month, that say some thing like, "I wrote a few chapters about Kvothe visting a city. It turns out that I didn't like the direction it was going. I think I have it figured out now, but unfortunately this will delay my estimate for the completion of Doors of Stone. My best estimate is now November of 2020. As always the situation is fluid and I will give you another update next month" How hard is it to write something like that? The delay would be a little annoying, but much, much more understanding if authors would put forth a little effort. That being said I get that authors don't owe us anything, I just think it makes sense from a public relations perspective.

I always believe the more openness and communication that exists between the author and their audience the better. There are a few series that I am following where I am just hoping the author is making progress with it, but I really have no idea.
