After reading through some recent threads about dishardic intents and Spren, the basics of a small theory have started to come up. Before going into details, I'd first like to present this WoB. source (number 8) Though Brandon doesn't outright confirm that the interpretation, which had been presented by @Argent, is correct, his reply does suggest that his theory is at least in the right direction. Now, this brings us to my theory, which is that the spren of the knights radiant aren't just made from Honor's and Cultivation's investiture, but also of Odium's. Odium's influence would be a lot smaller than either Honor's or Cultivation's, but of the spren we know about, there is one that I suspect contain a considerable amount of Odium's investiture, being the high spren (Skybreakers), though other types of KR spren would also contain some measure of Odium's investiture. The dustbringers come to mind as an example, though if this theory is true, almost all KR spren(Honor and Cultivation Spren being the exception) contain some measure of Odium.. The reason I suspect the High-spren stems from the discussion around dishardic intents, and the suggestion that the Honor+Odium shard would be Justice. This can be seen in the current skybreakers, who seem to Honor their laws and bonds, but also seem to have a hate for those that do wrong. Likewise, when Kalladin talks to Syl about taking justice against Amaram into his own hands, Syl compares his behavior to that of a Skyrbeaker, and it is safe to say that Kalladin hates Amaram. Anyway, this is my theory. Let its deconstruction begin!

I'd have to go through my copy again, but I don't remember seeing the Lord Ruler in there.

Looking at the letter from WoK, this argument seems to be about Hoid blaming Rayse personally for what happened, while the other claims Rayse is gone and is now just a force of nature (against whom it would be pointless to hold a grudge).
-
I'm pretty sure those towers are Kredik Shaw. I don't know of any showing the lord ruler though.

It was mentioned in writing excuses 9.23 (transcript). Here's what Brandon said about it:

Ah, that's some interesting stuff. Another idea for black and white that popped in my head after reading it was place (black) and time (white). Black could be used for transporting goods, while white could be used to preserve stuff (or age things rapidly), though neither black nor white would work on living things. As an addition, you could use a white weave in combination with another color to delay it's effect, or a black weave in combination with another colored weave to displace it's effect. If I understand it correctly, you cannot directly link weaves, but if you put both a white and another weave on an object you could use the white weave to put the other weave in 'stasis' for a while until you need the effect to start. This might be stretching the color-effect-link a bit too much though.

Ah, that explains why I hand't heard about that yet.

@RawrbertThat would probably work, though only as part of an assassination attempt, as it would require you to get close to an unaware target (and being that close, you might as well unload a pistol in him, given that the bubble doesn't deflect bullets by that much, as shown in shadows of self). Any other kind of target would know to keep their distance from the crazy dude with a sword.
-
A would probably happen, unless the stick is really large, in which case it would probably pull the one holding it out of the bubble as well. Edit: And while A seems like it would allow an exploit (hitting someone with a very fast stick to kill him), I suspect the moment you hit someone outside of the bubble with he stick, that person would either get pulled into the bubble or the person waving the stick would get pulled out. Either way, the impact of the very fast stick would feel like an impact of a normally swung stick to the one on the receiving end.

First of all, this is an interesting system. There's a ton of questions I'd like to ask (how is it powered, what are the requirements to use it, etc.), but I except a RAFO. That begin said, I have some criticisms for your choice for black and white. As it is, I still don't really see how your current implementations can give a practical effect (apart from providing light, but shouldn't that also be a function of gold, as it seems to do a lot with electromagnetism). That having been said, I can't really come up with really great alternatives (though I'll try anyway). I assume you absolutely need these two for the story you try to tell? Here are some other suggestions for black and white: White: Law, used to detect specific infractions in areas(like an alarm), to detect lies (though that might infringe on purple) and to force people to abide restrictions (would be cast on a per person base with some effect along the lines of 'you shall not...'). This one would be heavily regulated and mostly used by cops and the courts of law. Black: Change. can be used to change or circumvent any other weave (create loopholes in their code, if you will). White could be used to make changes like these harder. (these two are a set together, as one keeps the other in check) White: Sky, controlling air-streams and weather. Black: Death. not necromancy, but more involving communicating with the deceased. Anyway, that's what I've been able to come up with. I wish you good luck with your project.

It's been a year or so since I read the mistborn books, so could you tell me where in the books he talks about giving up the final empire?

I doubt he's bonded a void-Spren, as he claims he is a truthwatcher, which is a known order. I also think Syl has never claimed seeing the future is of the voidbringers (though I might be wrong). The claim that seeing the future is wrong might have come up after the betrayal of the Knights radiant, either independently or as part of an effort to discredit the orders. In fact, 2 minute-theory time: what if the knights radiant abandoned their oaths based on some sort of prophecy or foresight of something that would happen if they didn't. The fact that they abandoned their oaths because of a prediction was known by others and resulted in the belief that seeing the future was wrong.

[BoM spoilers ahead!] Hoid's objective in BoM
DeTess replied to Sallin Zeras's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Keep in mind that BoM happens after the first Stormlight quintet (and probably after the second too), so for all we know, Hoid has already achieved that goal by then and has moved on to something else. -
Ah, okay. That should explain it. I double-checked and it does still have purchase options for me.
-
I can still order it in the Netherlands (https://www.bol.com/nl/p/mistborn-secret-history/9200000055055209/?suggestionType=typedsearch), and at least one Amazon version is visible to me (https://www.amazon.com/Mistborn-Secret-History-Brandon-Sanderson-ebook/dp/B01J8GAKSI/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1480537829&sr=1-2&keywords=mistborn+secret+history).

It is included in the Arcanum Unbounded antology. It can also be bought separately as an E-book.

Random brainfart: what if Hoid is actually Bavadin? I mean, have we ever seen the two of them in the same room?

Actually, necromancy of theory-threads is semi-allowed. From the forum rules: No offense, of course. This rule is fairly unique to these forums in my experience, so no harm done in assuming otherwise. Anyway, I think this thread has been derailed enough, let's get back to the speculation and theoryzing at hand, shall we?

The original Koloss weren't long-lived at all. This was because they kept growing until their heart gave out (I expect this process to have taken 1-2 decades at most). Edit: ninja'd by @Spoolofwhool Btw, the reason I think of the 1-2 decade timeline is that if Koloss took to long to 'grow up', they wouldn't be as effective as shock troops, while TLR would have little trouble replacing his entire Koloss army every 10-20 years.

Losing a set of shardplate wouldn't be easy, but I'd say it's definitely possible. Don't forget that due to accumulation of crem, any object left out in the open for a couple of high-storms would become unrecognizable, and with a bit more time would just become part of the land. Shardplate could get lost in this way due to battles or skirmishes in craggy terrain, where the plate could fall in. Does this account for all the missing plate? Maybe, maybe not.

The small theory and question to follow is based on the Scadrian system essay, which is included in this excerpt. Spoilers for this essay, Mistborn and Warbreaker are to follow. In the essay, Khriss writes the following on Hemalurgy: "Usable by anyone with the right knowledge, this dangerous creation has proven able to warp souls regardless of planet or Investiture, creating false Connections that no Shard designed or intended." Notice that she is no speaking in hypotheticals here, but is instead stating that Hemalurgy has been used on other planets to steal attributes from other systems. So my question to you guys is this: has there ever been any sign or trace of Hemalurgy at work on other planets?
-
I was going to say the there are too many signs pointing to the 17th shard being older than that, but you convinced me with "Kelsier going on a Cosmere-wide recruitment montage". Edit: I've always seen the 17th as a kind of worldhopper 'police' that keeps other worldhoppers from interfering negatively with a world. It might actually make sense for Kelsier to have created such a group in response to his run-in with the IRE.

Te shardblade would cut its way straight out of it unless its made from the special metal that is resistant to shardblades, and that is apparently extremely rare.

Proof that adolin has already partially revived his sword?
DeTess replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that scene was from Kaladin's perspective, not Dalinar's, right? So that wouldn't count as an example of the ten heartbeats not being mentioned when seen from the shardbearers perspective. I remember that scene, but the reasoning was inverted: if you where in a situation that required a shardblade, your heartbeat would likely be quicker than when you where in a normal, relaxed and non-life-threatening situation. -
We already know that several magic systems require specific intents or commands to be used, Hemalurgy only works when on intents to make a spike (you can't create a hemalurgical spike accidentally). Other systems, like Forgery and Aondor require specific shapes that inform what the magic should accomplish, which is a form of command.
