Does this mean a metallurgist could go around figuring out who is and isn't a misting by just randomly tossing metal vials around and seeing which arrive?

Yeah, I'm active, no need to hit me with the contribution crusade. I don't have any suspicions yet (I mean, we haven't been plating for half a day, anyone who claims to have suspicions now is probably an elim). I do have some general thoughts and opinions on what might be a smart thing to do. First of all, I recommend that Kandra try and make sure they use their two PM's each cycle. PM's are wonderful things that allow you to gain more info, and talk over ideas without immediately having to throw them into the thread for all to see. Kandra are also going to be useful for getting new metal vials where they'll do the most good, but remember that confirmed Kandra is not confirmed Noble. Second, the metalurgists. There are unfortunately no metals that have only utility for the village. That having been said, I'd still attempt to get the most out of the role, if not from the start, then at least once you've found someone you're pretty sure is village who can act as stockpile ( @Elbereth, @Darkness Ascendant, @Conquestor, I assume you can't give metal vials to yourself as a metalurgist?). The reason for this is that it's going to be important for the village misting to remain stocked with metals at all times, as you'll never know when a game-winning vote comes down to whether someone still has some brass, zinc or copper left. Before the last part, I'd quickly like to give the Arinian Disclaimer: "I am not certain about any of the numbers to follow. If it seems like I'm stating something as fact, it is merely because I forgot a 'maybe' or a 'probably'." So, the number of elims. If the 20% convention is used, there's 3, or maybe 4 elims. However, since they've got a faction conversion ability, I suspect there are going to be less of them to start with. There will almost certainly not be 4 of them (unless there's a massive amount of pewter among the village), and I suspect there are only going to be 2 of them. This does depend on the number of half-skaa around. So, those are my thoughts on the rules and what might be a smart thing to do. If you see something idiotic that I've missed, or a fatal elim-exploitable flaw, don't hesitate to point that out and throw a lynch vote on me(and for that matter, remember that my name is 'Jondesu' for purposes of lynching).

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination

Teresh collapsed at Ranatar’s feet. Hithon’s poison was overpowering him, and his stormlight was fading quickly. Ranatar quickly knelt next to him, after having confirmed that Hithon wouldn’t try stabbing him in the back anytime soon. “Bast, ‘m going to need a hand here.” The plateau he’d been up on changed into a sea of beads. Ranatar quickly reached out to a bead representing a rock, and used it to keep himself up onto the surface. Beside him, the off-white shape of Alabaster had appeared. “What are you trying to do?” He asked. “Blood is one of the ten essences, right? So if I can find the poison in Teresh’s veins, I can save him.” Ranatar had already started looking around for the beads that would represent Teresh and the poison inside of him. “Well, yes. It isn’t as simple as that though.” Bast responded. “Then explain it to me. I don’t have much time, and I need Teresh functional for my plan.” “Very well.” The Inkspren said. “I still don’t understand what makes him different from the others you’ve been… opposing, but I’m happy to help save a life for once.” “I was saving lives before. Just doing it the hard way.” Ranatar muttered under his breath as he set to work, following Bast’s instructions. *** Ranatar returned back to the physical world. Only a few seconds seemed to have passed here. Teresh seemed to have returned to consciousness. “You’re welcome, Teresh.” Ranatar said as he pulled the initiate back onto his feet. He turned around to address the others, then added one last thing over his shoulder. “We’ll talk after this is over. There are many ways in which justice is served, and executing you would be a waste of.” Then Ranatar raised his voice so all the initiates could hear. “I’ve got a plan.” So, the rest of the plan will be shown (and executed) during the write-up. Also, Darkness ascendant. -
Yes, I would. The mistborn era 1 trilogy is already finished, and gives you an idea of what Sanderson's books are like in a more 'compact' package than the Way of Kings.
-
There isn't a mandatory reading order, but personally I'd start with the Mistborn era 1 trilogy. The first book is called 'Mistborn' or 'The final Empire' depending on where you are.

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination

Kehen was enraged. His boys and him had been fighting the Voidbringers, pushing them back steadily. Then suddenly this Storming initiate had snuck in behind the monsters and cut them down one by one. Those would have been their kills, their honor and glory. No, Kehen wouldn’t stand for that, and neither would his men. The initiate had settled into a defensive stance, wary eyes going over their group. One of Kehen’s men rushed forward, and the initiate sidestepped his attack easily, then punched him in the gut, doubling him over. Another strike to his head knocked him sprawling. “Storming initiate. Think you can come here, steal our glory and hurt my men? Charge!” Kehen and his men rushed forward. Kehen hadn’t seen where the other initiate had come from, but suddenly he was among them, using a spear like a quarterstaff and knocking his men over. Between the two initiates, the remainder of Kehen’s squad was quickly incapacitated. Kehen himself took a blow of the spear’s haft to his head and went down, dazed. “…some sense into Hithon.” The words pounded through Kehen’s smarting skull. ‘Why was the bastard talking so loud?’ He noticed a patch on the new initiate's jacket. A Stormwarden. Why hadn’t that idiot warned them about the storm that was now raging around them? That was their only job! Kehen jumped up again and charged at the idiot. Before he’d closed the distance the butt of the man’s spear was slammed into his gut. Another blow struck the side of his helmet, knocking him down again. When he returned to consciousness, the two Initiates had disappeared. So, obviously, this RP is not from Ranatar's perspective. I wanted to take a shot at writing some people overcome by the thrill, and since that wouldn't happen to Ranatar, this had to do. For those wondering how I got away from the big voidbringer chasing me, I suspect whatever ecth is up to has her attention now. -

"Ranatar", Hithon began. "I need to get to Teresh. I'm going to...need his help.” Ranatar suppressed a groan. Teresh had wisely dodged the other way when the massive Voidbringer had come in, and the monster was now between them and Teresh. Worse still, it was coming at them again. “Hithon, stay with me. I’ll get you there in a moment, but-“ The monster charged again. “Run!” Ranatar yelled as he grabbed Hithon’s arm and guided him on a sprint away from the voidbringer. They couldn’t outrun it, of course. It moved closer quickly, drawing its remaining arm back to strike. “Hithon, dodge left!” he shouted, while going right himself, hoping to draw the monster’s strike after him. He knew he’d have a far better chance of dodging the strike than the blind man. The blow came down, missing Ranatar by the tiniest of margin. Stone chips flew away from the impact, inflicting some superficial cuts that Stormlight quickly closed over. The fist retreated, and Ranatar was relieved to see Hithon had gotten clear in time. Another initiate had run up, checking on Hithon. Ranatar couldn’t see who it was because of the dust the monster’s blow had raised. “Initiate, get Hithon to Teresh, now!” After giving the orders, Ranatar whirled around, and ducked past the Monster’s leg, striking at it ineffectually as he did. He hoped Hithon had a plan, because he wouldn’t be able to keep dodging the creature for eternity. So, whoever wants to take over the blind initiate relay is welcome to. I'll go play bait for a bit longer. -
Eh, I'll sign up for this as well, as Dougal.

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
DeTess replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
With an ear-shattering roar, the monster charged. “Split up!” Ranatar wasn’t sure who’d first given the order. Maybe it had been him. The initiates quickly broke up in different groups, making sure to get out of the way of the monster’s charge. Ranatar made sure that Hithon was coming with him. There seemed to be something wrong with the initiate. His grace and certainty from earlier in the fight seemed to have disappeared, and Ranatar would be damned before he left him in the path of the monster’s charge. The monster skidded to a halt as its intended prey ducked away from its charge, then slowly came around, its enraged eyes firmly focused on Ranatar. ‘This is going to be interesting.’ So, let's start dealing with Eshonai now, shall we? She'll be coming after me at least for a bit, since I cut off her arm, so that should give the rest of you some time for heroics. Regarding your analysis, Drake, I agree that edgedancer and truthwatcher are most likely the broken bonds. I believe it was arinian that said there where 4 elims, not Alvron, though I'm going to run with the assumption that there are 4 anyway. Otherwise things aren't looking as good for us. Regarding that, Alvron, Quiver, Lopen. Sorry Lopen, in my determination not to get led by claims and counterclaims about your PM with ecth, I had missed that there was this big inconsistency. -

With a shock, clarity and strength returned to Ranatar. On reflex, he rolled sideways, though nothing was trying to kill him at present. His sword had gone missing, so he quickly cast about for a weapon. A spear was lying nearby, so he picked it up, then pulled himself back onto his feet. It was only then that he got a good look at the situation. The Voidbringer had grown to a truly enormous size, and above it, a monstrous eye was staring down on the battlefield. For a moment, despair threatened to burst past the locked doors in Ranatars mind, but he pushed it back ruthlessly. ’It hasn’t started yet. We’ve still got time, Storm it.’ The despair receded, but some spikes of anxiety remained. They weren’t his own though. “Be calm, Bast.” Ranatar tried to put as much confidence and reassurance in his voice as he could. “We can beat this thing. It’s not like we have any other option.” The feeling of anxiety receded. Ranatar looked around. A bit ahead of him, Teresh stood defiantly before the monster. Around him, the other initiates where slowly getting together. He spotted Hithon stumbling around, making his way uncertain in first one direction, then another. He looked like a Chasmfiend had used him as a door-mat. Ranatar quickly walked over to hithon, and tapped his arm lightly, barely managing to avoid a reflex swing of Hithon’s dagger. He spoke to him, reassuring him, and finally the blind man stilled, a measure of confidence returnin to him. “Brother”, he spoke. “Brother”, Ranatar acknowledged. “Let’s join the other initiates. We’ve got one more threat to take care of.” Teresh had started explaining his plan as they approached. "If you're wondering how I got here, I am too. What's important however is that there's a giant storming voidbringer thing in front of us. And it's very, very angry at us, particularly me and Ranatar I think. And we're going to need a plan. If we try to run, it can probably outrun us with those legs. I don't think that's an option. So. It's bigger than that chasmfiend we fought. More importantly, it's legs are a whole lot thicker and we aren't going to be able to chop them out from under it very easily. And it's smarter than any greatshell. Chances are, it's also retained its ability to harness lightning. If we assume that it's larger size means larger lightning bolts, that means it's going to be incredibly dangerous. But on the bright side... Like I said before, it's also really, really angry. And it's missing a hand. And it doesn't have shards anymore. All of these things can be used against it. Hm... I say we try and trip it, then go for the eyes. Keep moving so the lightning can't get you, maybe throw some metal to deflect it. Thoughts?" Ranatar looked the creature over again. Yes, there was more of the orange blood dripping down the left leg. “In our previous fight, I managed to land a thrust through the back of that monster’s left knee, wounding it and slowing it down. The wound still seems to be there, so focus on the left leg to bring it down. If it charges, try to lead it to the chasm. It can jump them, but if it is blinded by rage, it might not realize it's rushing into nothingness until it's too late.” Drake's speech is from his RP, and the part with Hithon (Doc12) has been coordinated with him through PM's. -

How would you explain that the unjust killed the person that had been teleported into prison on both this and last cycle if the elsecaller was honorable? I guess it would be possible if the eslecaller reported who he was going to switch to other players in PM, and one of them was an elim. Hmm, that actually would be a possible explanation for Drake getting freed. -

Looking at the write-up, it seems the elsecaller switched Drake and Drought. This confuses me. I'd expected the elsecaller to switch quiver, if he was able, since quiver was unlikely to become active. Instead, they switched Drake, who was an active player before getting captured, and still participated through PM's afterwards, so if Drake is honorable, this wouldn't help them at all (and I was pretty sure Drake was honorable). -
I'm pretty sure an ISP is an Internet-Service-Provider, so basically the company you pay to have internet.

Any significantly sized moon in close proximity to a planet is going to be tidally locked, unless some pretty extraordinary things are taking place. Personally, I'd put the moon in an orbit with a period equal to the length of your preferred day, and let it's notation around the planet determine the day-nigth cycle. This does mean, as pagerunner pointed out, that different parts of the moon will have different day-night cycles. If you need some accurate numbers, shoot me a PM in which you specify more exactly what you want (for example, a 24-hour cycle around a saturn-analogue planet), and I can run some calculations for you*. *I've got a Bachelor of science in Aerospace engineering, and am currently doing my masters with a focus on spaceflight. I wouldn't consider myself an expert on moons, but I've got a working knowledge of orbital mechanics.

Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination

Ranatar gathered what Stormlight he could from his surroundings, breathing in from nearby gemstones and the light that bled from the Shardbearer’s armor. Then he struck at the opening Nameless had created for him. The creature’s helmet was cracked to the point of bursting, so a single solid blow would break it and go through, splitting it’s skull and killing the brute. Ranatar didn’t know what had warned the monster. Maybe it was some sense unique to their species. Maybe it was the triumphant glint in Nameless'eyes. Maybe it was a warning note sung by the creature’s companions that where rushing in to help it. Whatever it was, it resulted in the creature whirling around and taking a step back, placing its head out of the reach of Ranatar’s blow. His word travelled through the air, missing the target and… A shock went through Ranatar’s arm as his blade connected with the raised sword-arm of the creature. The plate protecting it had broken in the battle, and his blow cut straight through. The Shardblade disappeared in a puff of mist as the hand holding it started to fall. Ranatar started bringing his sword around for another strike at the creature’s head when a blow to his back send him sprawling against the hard rock. Several Voidbringers had broken contact with the Alethi forces and had rushed in to protect their leader. One of them had struck Ranatar with some kind of mace, but rather than bothering to finish him or the other initiates, they simply formed a protective wall around their leader and escorted it away from the fighting. Ranatar tried to get up and chase them, but his remaining Stormlight was used up repairing the damage from the blow to his back, and he collapsed back to the ground, fatigue almost sending him into unconsciousness. -

@Amanuensis, do you need Eshonai alive for anything that is to come? Ecth has given me a perfect shot at her back, and Ranatar is good enough not to mess that up. Of course, I can arrange something if you need her elsewhere. -

Ranatar twisted aside from another Shardblade strike, his lifeless left arm flopping through the air. The Voidbringer general had managed to finally land a telling blow on him several moments before. Ranatar didn’t have much Stormlight left, so he’d intentionally blocked it from flowing into his arm. He knew that the moment he ran out, he’d be dead anyway. However, between him and the initiate that had saved him, they’d started to wear down the Voidbringer. It’s armor had a large number of tiny cracks leaking stormlight, and the wound to its leg had noticeably impaired its mobility. Ranatar doubted they’d have been able to stand up against it if it had still been able to run and leap around like a shardbearer normally could. With the mobility advantage squarely on their side, he and his rescuer had been able to start wearing it down. It wasn’t happening fast enough, though. Ranatar’s stormlight was running out fast, and despite the numerous cracks in the creatures armor, they’d yet to destroy any part of it. Time was squarely on the creatures side. They'd have to figure out a way to take it down, and fast. @DroughtBringer, I think we've left Eshonai waiting long enough. -

So let me get this straight. You, Lopen, let Alvron, someone who you had been suspecting since cycle 4 or thereabouts, go because he asked nicely to vote on arin? I'd say you where smarter than that, only I think this was pretty much exactly how the conversation in the elim doc went. So, Lopen. I'm pretty sure now that both Alvron and Lopen are elims, but given that Lopen has been claiming that alvron was the elsecaller, I highly doubt alvron actually is. -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
DeTess replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Okay, so the process is based on Lopen’s claim that elsecaller was bonded cycle 3, and that he put 6 honour towards it. I don’t see a reason for him to lie about that, unless he either is the elsecaller, or knows who is and is protecting him(which would make him an elim as well). So, first of all, who do we think had 6 honour on cycle 3? These are Alvron, Arraenae, Drake, Drought, Jondesu, Randuir and Lopen (and possibly doc and Joe as well. I thought they had less, Lopen had them for 6). You can count this yourself if you want, but it should (hopefully) all check out. We can exclude Arraenae because he/she’s dead, and Drake because he’s been in prison during the current activities of the elsecaller. We can exclude joe because he hasn’t earned enough honor to keep the bond, and Drought didn’t earn any honor on cycle 4, so he would have lost the bond if he’d had it. Jondesu has claimed to have a spren this cycle, and has claimed the specific spren to me before that. Events have supported that claim. Doc's claim just now has removed him from the list, and he’d claimed to me shortly after getting the spren, which is why I excluded him before that claim. This leaves Alvron, me and Lopen. I can exclude myself from the process of obvious reasons, but I suppose the rest of you will want something more concrete. I could point to the fact that I’ve tried to be helpful, but that also goes for Lopen, and is at best a subjective ‘proof’. The best proof I can think of is actually Lopen’s continued survival. Let’s imagine, for the moment, a scenario in which I am the unjust elsecaller, and everything else remains the same. This hypothetical me has worked with Lopen and has him convinced that Alvron is in fact the elsecaller. Then, suddenly, Lopen backs away from Alvron (as he did last cycle), and claims that Alvron has given him the feeling that he is village. In this scenario, Lopen has only one possible suspect for holding elsecaller, which is me. This is something I am aware of, as Lopen had shared his calculations and estimates with me. But for some reason, Lopen didn’t reveal this information. If I had been unjust, I would have killed Lopen before he could reveal that information this cycle, and I think I'm not the only one who'd taken that action in that situation. That’s the best proof I can come up with now. Next cycle I’ll be able to offer something better, as I expect to finally bond a spren this cycle. This leaves Alvron and Lopen as possible holders of the Inkspren. I’ve asked Alvron to tell me what he’s told Lopen to convince him to back off from voting on him. If he can convince me as well, that leaves it obvious who I should vote for. If it isn’t, it’s still somewhat up in the air. -

You can't execute Alvron untill he's imprisoned. To bring out that vote, put it in orange. You can't vote to execute Shqueeves either, because he's temporarily out of prison(but will return there next cycle). -
Long Game 30: Journey Before Destination
DeTess replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
There are, at the moment 3 people who can hold the Elsecaller spren. These are Randuir, Alvron and Lopen. If someone thinks someone else needs to be on this list, contact me and I'll tell you why that's unlikely to be the case, or facepalm while I add them to the list. Last cycle, me and Lopen discussed who to go for. There where two people we suspected, being Alvron (as we concluded he had to be the elsecaller) and Jondesu. Lopen argued in favor of Alvron because, if he was the elsecaller, imprisoning anyone else would not result in an execution, as the elsecaller can save them. Last cycle, Lopen eventually forgoed the lynch on Alvron and decided to go after Arinian instead. Now I don't actually disagree that Arinian is likely an elim. However, as Lopen pointed out in the PM, if [elim other than the elsecaller](in this case, arin) is imprisoned, he'll probably get temporarily freed again next cycle by the elsecaller. Now, I can understand backing the lynch that actually has a chance of succeeding, rather than trying to start a new lynch on the person that, by process of elimination, would have to be the new elsecaller. However, Lopen did not actually state in thread his new suspicion, which risked his conclusions disappearing with him if he died last cycle(Only I, and possibly droughtbringer, knew of his calculations, and if both Alvron and Lopen where honorable, I had to be, by process of elimination, the unjust elsecaller). Lopen took none of these precautions, however. Now, as I know I'm not unjust, that leaves me with two candidates for holding the elsecaller, being Lopen and Alvron. I'm not sure whether I can believe ecthelion, and his discussion between Lopen seems to come down to who I'm going to believe claimed what things in PM (but if someone else can prove Ecthelion is honorable or unjust, I'd like to hear it). So instead of going by ecthelion's read, I'd like hear what @Alvron told Lopen to convince him he was not an elim. -

DeTess replied to Amanuensis's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'll get some RP and an interrogation vote up tomorrow, as I've been somewhat under the weather (as in, I've been a bit ill) today. For now, I want to get three things out of the way. First, arinian, for the reasons outlined by Doc12. Second, Drake. Thirdly, Drake has asked me in a PM to pass on a message to the thread. He thinks that the murder of Magestar indicates the elims are preparing a play for Dustbringer, as Magestar had indicated he'd go for Dustbringer himself. Chances are good he would have gotten it this cycle if he hadn't been killed, so if the elims want it, they would increase their chances by eliminating mage.
