  1. If you're willing to wait a short while (should be less than an hour), I'll have a short RP up presenting 'the plan'. You are all free to ignore it, of course, but I'd like to have it up before everyone charges the beast.
  2. I believe I can say with some certainty that sheep does not have a spren. I estimate she only has one honor, and she gained that in cycle 1, so if she was going to bond a one-honor spren, she'd have done it then. Even if she somehow did bond a spren, she'll lose it shortly as spren need 1 honour per chapter to remain bonded. I agree we shouldn't pardon her, so that her absence doesn't affect our ability to execute players at a later date. For that same reason, I'm going to place my vote on quiver , at least until a more valid interrogation target appears.
  3. I might put up a 'talking strategy' RP up once some more people have made the jump, if no one beats me to it. One thing that might be smart to do is to quickly describe your intended fighting style and plan (IC or OOC), that would make it easier for everyone to make cooperative combat RP posts without having to coordinate with everyone to make sure their character looks right. For example, as long as Ranatar's spear holds, he'll use it to keep his distance, stabbing it between plates and other apparent weakspots of the greatshell and quickly getting out of the way before the creature manages to crush him. @Doc12, is there any chance of you doing another comprehensive summary of the discussions like you've done last cycle?
  4. Panic threathened to break his sanity as he tumbled throught the air. A scream of fear forced its way past his lips as he started on the long way down. On the cliff wall, he could see a track of fear-spren following him. He tumbled around in the air, seeing the cliff with the rest of the initiates, than the ground rushing up to grab him, than…nothing. *** Ranatar woke up again, facing the wall. A storm was raging through his veins, repairing broken bones, sealing punctured skin, refilling lost blood and removing the emotions that had threatened to overwhelm him before. ‘No, that last thing is all me.’ Ranatar didn’t feel anything. No elation at having survived the drop, no worry at was to come, no anger at the man that had pushed him. Some of that would come later, when he allowed control to slip again. For now, he had no use for these. This mindset of control, of supressing everything but rational thought, had come easily to Ranatar in the past. Back when he served under prince Balerad, it had helped him through long nights of strategy planning and ensured his survival on those few occasion a shardbearer had broken through the lines and reached his position. It had made him an important resource to the prince and ensured him a position of trust that wasn’t usually reserved for a bastard. He had come to hate it. For a moment, he tried to force it down, let control go. Then he stopped himself. ‘I’m going to need it if I’m going to survive this.' He let the stormlight go as his body had fully healed, and then made a quick accounting of his reserves. His emerald broam had gone fully dun, but the rest of his spheres where still infused. “I’m okay!” He shouted up to the rest of the initiates. “Make sure you’ve got at least an emerald broam’s worth of stormlight before making the jump!” Note: you could likely survive with less stormlight if you hit the ground in a controlled way, rather than the *splut* Ranatar made.
  5. ‘Guess I was right’, Ranatar thought as the greatshell was revealed. He’d intentionally eschewed armor of any sort, knowing that it wouldn’t stop an attack from this beast and would only serve to slow him down. Speed would be his armor. Ranatar knew he wasn’t as fit as some among the initates, but before coming to Urithiru he’d made a point of training with the troops in Sebariel’s warcamp several times a week. He’d brought both a spear and a sword from the armory, and was somewhat proficient in both. and was wearing one of the uniforms he’d worn back in Sebariels camp, given that he had had little time to mend the uniform that had been wrecked in the high-storm. He quickly went over his pockets again, making sure all spheres where still in place. Unlike some of the other initiates, he’d known the storm they’d spent the day in yesterday was coming, and had prepared accordingly. He’d gathered up every dun sphere he could find, and had traded up some of his still infused spheres for larger dun spheres. He’d just expected to be able to slowly use the hoarded stormlight through the coming days of training, instead of having to blow it all the next day. “Did I say we? I meant you all, of course. My Squires and I are only here to supervise.” Stormblessed’s statement pulled Ranatar’s attention back from the review of his preparations with a start. ‘There’s no way we can kill this thing without a shardbearer!’ Ranatar’s composure started to fracture, but Kalladin put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “No better way to build teamwork than to face adversity together. Am I right?” “In case you’re all wondering how you’re getting down there, well… I hope you listened when I said to bring every infused sphere you own, because trust me. You’re going to need a lot to survive this drop.” The windrunner continued. ‘Wait! There’s no way…’ Ranatar’s thoughts where cut off as Stormblessed suddenly gave him a shove, sending him tumbling over the edge. More RP to come (in an edit to this post, most likely). I just wanted to establish I was the one getting pushed by kalladin early edit: More RP did come, not in an edit to this post.
  6. When the adrenaline rush had left him, Ranatar had needed to sit down. The stormlight had kept his body mostly intact, but the shock of what he’d gone through had threathened to overwhelm him for several seconds. Very few people could claim to have stared down a highstorm and lived to tell the tale. He was now one of them. One living soul where so many had… Ranatar shook those thoughts off before they could take root and take his mind to darker places. To keep himself distracted, he observed the other initiates. *** Ranatar mulled over the events of the past few hours as the discussions kept going around him. He’d mostly kept to an observing role, though he’d almost stepped in when the Shin preacher had started making his way to one of the female initiates, a cold, calculating and dispassionate expression on his face. It was an expression Ranatar was not unfamiliar with, and it rarely boded good for those it was aimed at. The conversation that had followed between the two had been civil, though. There had been another minor incident between an initiate named Jonly and one named Ralaani. Apparently she had suggested Jonly was guilty, and Jonly had taken that badly. These incidents, as well as a smattering of looks and expression Ranatar had spotted over the past few hours led him to a chilling conclusion. “The question isn’t: ‘who here is capable of murdering a fellow initiate.” He muttered to himself. “It is: ‘who here had cause to murder Lomot.’” There were some initiates who truly seemed innocent, but most had the bearing of people familiar with death. @JUQ, @Quiver, @Shqueeves, @Magestar, @AliasSheep, @The lazy anarchist, the end of the cycle is approaching, so you only have a little time left to get input in, get some honor, and in the case of sheep, prevent yourself from getting interrogated.
  7. Hmmm, I think there was actually someone with a dwarf as his profile-picture...
  8. Most people gave a range for their estimates (for example, with your count, there are 22 players, not counting lomot, so there's probable 4 but there could be 5 as well, depending on whether it is rounded up or down), so your statement of 4 elims stood out. As I said, I don't think an elim would slip up in such a way.
  9. Well, it's my first forum game of this format. I've played analogue werewolf, as well as a wide variety of board-games and pen-and-paper RPG's, which might help me quickly get into a new ruleset. I suspect if you look through my posts, you'll find plenty of rookie misconceptions though. I've also been tracking the ongoing anniversary game, so I did have a bit of an inkling about how the format works before I started here. What an oddly specific number. I doubt an elim would slip up in such an obvious way though.
  10. So, obviously, there are some spoilers below. I've tried to keep them to an absolute minimum, and it shouldn't give you more clues to upcoming developments than you already had through the fan-art you've seen.
  11. There has been a convention going around of people coloring RP and discussion differently. Not everyone is using it yet, but it would help with this issue. I seem to remember Elbereth asking about why we where doing that and this is the answer. Edit: btw, is there any particular format PM's to other players have to be in? As I understand it, it's just a normal PM between the two players and the two GM's. are there any other rules?
  12. I don't play in that game, so I don't have any information that isn't freely available, but I'll remember not to mention ongoing games in the future.
  13. I've gone through the first cycle again to take another look at my suspicions, as well as the other candidates for interrogation suggested here. I initially had some suspicions of TheMightyLopen, though the gut-feeling I had didn't reassert itself when I read through his posts again, and I couldn't find anything particularly incriminating. The same goes for mage. I find it rather odd that Assassin is being called out for asking questions. Is there some rule about only being allowed to ask questions in the thread itself that I'm not aware of? You don't appear particularly suspicious in the rest of your posts, so apart from calling assassin out on in my opinion rather shaky grounds, I don't have any real reason to vote for you. I agree that the elims would try to get as much honor as possible, but so would all vilagers, so just having a lot of honor should not be enough to found a suspicion. Of course, if there is someone with a lot of honor who has been confirmed to not have a spren, that might become a basis for suspicion, especially if it is couple with some other suspicious behavior. I know this is a rather ambling post, but I haven't really got much to go on right now. One final thing, even if we don't have any particular suspicions about someone at the end of this cycle, we will have to make sure the interrogation we've chosen has enough votes to stick, otherwise it will be too easy for a couple of elims to sneak in and switch the lynch to someone of their choosing without getting too much attention. Or alternatively, we could leave the vote open for last minute switches in an effort to try and draw out the elims, though that is unlikely to work unless the vote was on an elim to start with (as in AG3, where there was a tied vote on an elim mistborn and a villager at the start of the game which got manipulated into the elims favor).
  14. Mistborn: Secret history is a short story set in the mistborn world in parallel to the first trilogy. I suggest not reading it until you've finished the first trilogy at the least, and you honestly want to have read up to and including bands of mourning. It is included in arcanum unbounded, and depending on where you live, there might also still be a seperate e-book. Edit: it's a 'short' story by Brandons standards, so don't expect a 5-page story (it's in excess of a 100 pages if I remember correctly).
  15. As the fury of the Highstorm passed and the Riddens set in, Ranatar couldn’t supress a grin. For starters, he had been off by only a little over an hour with his prediction of the start of the high-storm, which was decent. However, on a whim, he had also made a basic calculation of the thickness of the stormwall, and if he hadn’t lost count, he’d been almost exactly correct. Ranatar did his best to wipe the grin from his face, admonishing himself that the adrenaline coursing through his body meant that he’d probably miscounted, but he found himself unable to. Kaladin’s revelation had no trouble wiping the grin of his face and removed any thoughts about predicting highstorms from his mind. I don't have any real suspicions after the 1st cycle. I have a bad gut-feeling about 1 or 2 players, but given that I am very new, those feelings are probably worth less than a dun chip. I'll look back through cycle 1 to see if there is anything I can find to substantiate those suspicions. Amanuensis, what would happen in the case of a draw? And while we're on that question, as exactly 50% of the votes is needed to execute someone, could you execute two people in the same cycle if you can manage to get everyone to participate and split the vote (unlikely to happen as that is)?
  16. Kelsier's seems obvious to me (there's always another secret). I'll look around and see if I can find some good ones for other characters.
  17. I hereby stand as witness that A Joe the Bush has been granted the right to say 'I told you so' one (1) time at the end of the game to Alvron in the case that he(Alvron) overpays for his Spren of choice. Also, keep in mind that gaining 2 honor is something you have to work for. Most people that have posted have earned either the discussion or RP one already, but not everyone has both. So strategists, make sure to put in some RP, and roleplayers, try to come up with some strategies (or punch holes in those already suggested).
  18. So with 22-23 players (not sure if I should count Lomot), that probably means we've got 4-5 elims. I completely agree that we should all be trying to get a spren, we should just be careful that we don't all try to get a fancy one like a valor-spren or an honor-spren and forget about less spectacular spren like the truthwatcher-spren. I don't think there is a way to coordinate this, apart from posting in the thread, which would be....unwise, but if anyone has got any ideas for this, I'm open to suggestions. edit: actually, if its one elim for every five villagers, that means a ratio of 1 elim for every 6 players, so it's (3 to) 4 elims if the above logic has been followed by amanuensis.
  19. I wouldn't underestimate the importance of getting the truthwatcher early. It might not allow for easy identification of elims in the early game, but if the elims snatch it up early and manage to hold onto it for the rest of the game* it would deny us the use of the truthwatcher when we actually need it. * I'm not sure how big the elim team usually is, so I don't know if they can afford to waste someones actions on this. Can a more experienced player give me an indication? In games of werewolf I've played with friends a group of this size (and yes, I have on occasion played it with groups of 20+ people) could have as few as 3 and as many as 6 werewolfs, but I don't know what the convention in SE is.
  20. “I suspect many initiates felt like you did when they decided to speak the oaths.” Ranatar said. “I imagine very few people would become a radiant out of doubt.” Ranatar considered himself to be part of the latter minority, though he didn't mention it. He paused a moment to gather his thoughts. “You are in basis correct about how highstorm predictions come to pass. I’d happily spend some time explaining the basics to you. Unfortunately, I suspect that if I start explaining now, I’ll get carried away and end up explaining far too much in too little time to be understandable. If you approach me some-time in the coming days, I’ll be happy to show you the basics and explain the fundamentals of the Stormwarden’s predictions.” Kintas had the spark of intelligence and curiosity in his eyes that was common to Scholars and many ardents and Stormwardens. Taking some time to explain the system to him might, at worst, help him work through his current problem and could at best provide new insights that an experienced warden would overlook. “You mentioned you were not from Alethkar? I‘ve travelled much through my homeland, but have seen preciously little of Roshar beyond our borders. Would you be willing to tell about your homeland?” Now that you mention it, I can see how a purple colour could clash with the black borders of a mention. @Doc12, regarding your second question, I don't think the Stonewarden dies during his defense. Otherwise it would just be a weaker version of the elsecaller power, which could, among other things, switch a person who is unlikely to be attacked with one that will be (like a truthwatcher that has done a role-claim), in essence risking one person to try and protect another.
  21. The terrace had steadily become busier, though Ranatar didn’t pay the new arrivals too much attention. Lady Davar’s explanation had been very interesting, and when she had finished, an older woman had come forward and offered to discuss some of the new fabrials found in the city. Now, a short break was being held while some of the women got some food. Ranatar noticed that another man had joined the group, who didn’t seem particularly bothered by the social conventions that had kept Ranatar at a respectful distance. It wasn’t too surprising, given the extremely varied perspectives and personalities among the initiates. ‘And the events that have brought everyone together here would make even the staunchest ardent question tradition.’ Ranatar thought, a wry smile crossing his lips. A decision made, Ranatar put away his notebook and walked over to the other man. “Good evening.” Ranatar said with a respectful nod. “It’s not often that a man shows interest in the fabrial arts. I’m Ranatar, Stormwarden and Radiant Initiate.” @Jondesu I'm hereby borrowing the use of purple for OOC analysis and conversation. If I understand correctly, there will only be one of each order at any one time, so using the lack of a spren-bond to determine who are eliminators would only really be a useful tool in the late-game. It should be very helpful at that time to catch any eliminators that have managed to avoid detection up-till that point though.
  22. ‘If the ocean-going distance from one end of the continent is equal to Perep, the average ocean temperature is nihn and the separation between the two highstorms is ini hours, then the storm acceleration would be expressed as…’ Ranatar’s chain of though was interrupted by a knock on the door of his room. “Yes?” Ranatar managed to keep most of his annoyance out of his voice. “Apologies for interrupting… Brightlord.” Ranatar had picked up on the slight hesitation before the servant added the title. It wasn’t surprising. People had had issues figuring out his position while he was still a normal bastard with two different eyes. His new position would not make this any easier. “You had requested to be given a reminder shortly before the start of the Gala.” the unseen servant continued. Ranatar suppressed a curse. He’d lost track of time again. He’d been putting in as much time as possible in finishing his storm-model before his training as a radiant would begin in earnest, and was now almost done. One final term kept eluding him however. Ranatar frowned at the wall before him. He’d covered the entirety of this wall in large paper sheets, most of which were now covered in glyphs as he worked through the problem. If he had a bit more time… “Brightlord?” The voice of the servant drifted through the room’s heavy door again. “Yes, thank you, I’ll be along shortly.” Ranatar Responded with a weary sigh, and turned to his dress uniform. It had been brought by this morning for him to wear this evening. He had removed some of the more outrageous ornamentations and had added a small patch to his left sleeve to indicate he was a Stormwarden. Despite everything, this was still something he was proud of. Ranatar pulled on the uniform’s pants and jacket and added all other parts that court deemed necessary, then turned towards the door. Before he went out, he picked up a notebook and a piece of writing charcoal and stuffed the both of them in a pocket. *** Despite his earlier lapse of attention, Ranatar was still among the first initiates to reach the roof and join the festivities. His eye was quickly caught by the man to first take up the mantle of the initiates, Lomot. The man was hard to miss, as he was nothing short of a walking work of art. He noted several others he’d noted wearing initiate’s mantles in the past day, including a Thaylen lady and the Shin man that had been preaching about ‘Truth’. The Shin certainly had a way with words, but Ranatar didn’t understand why he felt the need to preach to people in these times. While Ranatar’s gaze wandered around the terrace, his feet had brought him to the roofs center. There, Lady Davar, a confirmed knight Radiant, was surrounded by several other initiates. Unsurprisingly they were almost all female. She was talking about the heating fabrial next to her. Ranatar walked to a table close by and took a glass of light wine from a passing servant while listening to her instruction on the various types of fabrials. ------------------------------------- A quick note on the first sentence: the italics words are glyphs. as far as I know, they are ones I've made up on the spot, though they'd have some meaning linking them to the variables I used them for. If not approached by someone shortly after taking his place at the table, Ranatar will get out his notebook and start writing in it. Send me a PM if someone's character walks by and shoots a look at what I'm writing. Last of all, I wish everyone a lot of fun with this game!
  23. I'd like to quickly point out that I'll be gone over the weekend, which means I'll roughly miss out on the first 24 hours (not the first cycle, just the first 24 hours). I don't expect this to be an issue in any way, but if anyone tries to PM me in that period, this should explain my unresponsiveness.
  24. A real biologist or chemist might correct me, but the iron in your blood isn't in the form of pure iron. It's in the form of hemoglobin which is a rather complicated molecule. So it most likely doesn't register as a pure metal for allomantic purposes.
  25. Looks decent. I've built my own computer in the past, though I wouldn't call myself an expert. I've got two questions though: First, why are you taking windows 8.1 as your OS? Secondly, what are you using your computer for? Depending on your intended use, the processor might be overkill. Also, I assume you've got a sizeable case? I've got the same CPU cooler you've chosen, and it only just fit in my case, though that was a small one to start with.
