  1. @The Flash, these are people I know who are quite good at appearing village-like: BR, Drought and Frozen mint(some people believe I also belong on this list). I'm not saying I got an elim-vibe from them at this point, I just recommend some caution if you haven't seen someone take village actions. Also making a point of reminding everypony that you are new is sometimes regarded as suspicious, just FYI .
  2. I asked at the beginning of C1. This is Hero's answer: I do want to urge those holding an element of harmony to defend themselves if they get accused. I suspect Straw would have been less likely to have been lynched if he'd made some kind of defense. I, at least, would have considered backing off, as I've seen straw getting lynched for things like this before while he was innocent, unfortunately. However, if all I've got to go on in C1 is a sudden and seemingly unnecessary bandwagon vote, and no reaction to questions about his reasons, I can't really go and vote on someone I'm less suspicious of.
  3. No one likes day 1 lynches, but given the rules of this game, it's not like we had much of a choice as it's either: don't lynch and be guaranteed to lose an element of harmony and a villager. Lynch, and have only a 25% risk of losing an element, and a roughly 20% chance of hitting an elim.
  4. Well, as far as C1 lynches go, this was the worst possible outcome. I'll try to do some more analysis later, but these are some thing I picked up on: Alvron put in an anonymous vote. However, if there had been an attempt by the elims to force a draw, this would have blocked that attempt, so this action makes me lean ever so slightly village on him. Drought initiated suspicions on Straw with his question, but didn't follow it through with a vote (or reasons why he didn't do so). This makes me somewhat wary that this might have been an elim attempt to get the straw lynch moving without committing to this himself. I don't see much reason fro why he'd do so, unless both he and BR are both elims (again). A more innocent explanation would be that he was busy with LG33 turn-over, and didn't have time to post because of that.
  5. I'm signing off for the day, but before I do so, there's some final comments I'd like to make: Try to have the final lynch candidate lead by some margin, just in case. Pegasi, make sure to vote, even if it's just a throw away vote on someone not at risk of being lynched. This helps both the village as a whole, and you in particular, for the following reasons: If most pegasi vote, then any changeling pegasi trying to use their powers for evil will stand out more, helping us identify them. If you're a village pegasus, and you don't vote, and changeling pegasi use their power to hurt he village (forcing a tie, for example), chances are that you will come under suspicion. (I hope to) See you guys next cycle!
  6. Okay, so there are currently two people with votes on them, being Brightness and PK (though the 1 vote on PK is nullified, as he is an earth Pony). Brightness: I don't really have much of a read on her, one way or another, though her behavior at the moment seems more village-like than elim-like to me(trying to go in discussion with those voting on her, rather than immediately breaking out the retaliation votes/counter-accusing them). In a way, I do feel like lynching her might give us some interesting info, but since I don't think she's evil at this point, I'm not going to join that lynch(I might change my mind if we have a tie). PK: I don't really have much of a read on PK either. His paranoia isn't unfounded, though it could be an elim ploy to get people to be less trusting of the players who generally plan a lot. His logic is sound, but as PK himself pointed out, sound logic doesn't generally prove someone innocent or guilty in cycle 1. So, in case it wasn't clear yet, I'm going to take a third option for voting. @DroughtBringer, could you explain some more why you suddenly decided to retract your vote on BR? AS it was, it wouldn't make much difference whether she had 2 or 3 votes, and Brightness only posted RP between the posted in which you retracted your vote, and the previous post in which you stated that you weren't going to do so yet. You didn't cast any other votes either, so you didn't do anything to change BR's position as primary lynch candidate. Anyway, despite me being somewhat suspicious of Drought, I'm going to place my vote on Straw for now. His argument for voting seems to make sense, until you realize that at the moment he made that vote there was no tie or similar situation that would put the current holder of the object of generosity at risk. With that taken into account, it's a simple bandwagon. Given the current states of votes, it might have been an elim attempt to fortify the lynch on village!Brightness. (note: at this point BR posted the post above mine) @BrightnessRadiant, might I ask why you're voting on PK? He had net 0 votes on him, as he's an earth-pony, so if you're only voting out of self-preservation, you could literally pick anyone else with the same effect. Also, I'd like to point out that, of the pegasi, only Brightness has placed a public vote (Jedal did put one up, but has retracted it). I'd like to ask you guys to make sure to vote, to make it more difficult for changeling pegasi to try any shenanigans (such as forcing a tie). Vote tally(numbers are adjusted for earth ponies): Hemalurgic Headshot(0): Jondesu Jondesu(0): Paranoid King Paranoid King(1): Jedal, Bridge Boy, Brightness Brightness(2): Paranoid King, Droughtbringer, Straw Straw(1): Randuir
  7. We're 28 hours in, and not everyone has checked in yet if my excel sheet is to be believed. The Flash said he'd be camping, so he's excused, and DA will be active if he can, so poking him doesn't help much, but for the others: @A Joe in the Bush, @Straw, @Ornstein, @Conatus, @Alvron, would you care to share some of your viewpoints with the thread? I'll vote once I've gone through the thread with a fine comb. For now, have a vote tally. Vote tally(numbers are adjusted for earth ponies): Hemalurgic Headshot(0): Jondesu Jondesu(0): Paranoid King Paranoid King(0): Jedal, Bridge Boy Brightness(2): Paranoid King, Droughtbringer
  8. My notes indicate that apart from the elements and publicly known pony types, there are no other known roles. Are you suggesting there are secret roles?
  9. I can see where Paranoid King is coming from with his weariness, but I find his decision to vote on Jondesu somewhat odd, for the following reasons: From his justification it seems like he is voting on Jon by proxy. "I think Randuir might be suspicious, so if he is evil, so is Jon. Therefore I'm voting on Jon." This doesn't make too much sense to me (though I might be misinterpreting here, @Paranoid King?). Also, it is not quite as reasonable a reasoning as one might think. In QF22 I used this to motivate two attacks on players (one by power, one by lynch) in both cases the main suspect was guilty, but the 'proxy' (the one I went after) was innocent. Remaining wary of people posting tactics is not a bad idea (see Elenion in MR21). However, posting tactics and other ideas is merely a Neutral activity, it doesn't indicate someone is an elim either, so using it is part of a justification for a lynch in C1 is strange. I'll probably place a vote somewhat later in the cycle, as I want to see a couple more posts from everyone before I decide to push for anyone's lynch. Vote tally: Hemalurgic Headshot(1): Jondesu Jondesu(1): Paranoid King Paranoid King(1): Jedal
  10. This excerpt from the rules suggests the pony with he element of kindness can still be kidnapped, as it specifically mentions protection from the lynch. Also, given that the win-condition of the elims is kidnapping all owners of elements of harmony, I doubt kindness protects from the kidnap.
  11. Great write-up, Hero! For now, I've got some thoughts on the rules, starting with pony-types: Unicorns should make sure to use their PM's. Remember that you can create group PM's containing multiple ponies as well. This also means that, even if you don't feel like talking to anyone in PM's, you could still set up a small group and let them do whatever talking they wish to do. Pegasi have the ability to vote in secret. This is quite powerful, especially in the late game where being able to surprise someone can be a big boon. However, it is very important to know who voted on whom in the earlier cycles for analysis, so I ask you to restrain from using your powers in the early game. Earth-ponies effectively have one less vote on them, so people should keep this in mind when voting (especially in the case of ties, you should check the pony-types of the intended targets). The other major factor are the elements of harmony. The protection granted by loyalty is a powerful tool, but unlike similar abilities in other games, it comes with a drawback: If you're targeted for the kidnap, the one you sought to protect is kidnapped as well. Therefore, I personally recommend that whoever holds this power exercises good judgement; Do not use it if you expect to get kidnapped on any given cycle (I'm sure that the relevant people with high early-game mortality rates know who they are). The element of Honesty is a fantastic power as well. If it isn't held by a unicorn, I recommend you scan one ASAP so you have someone that can make PM's that you can trust. that way you can create a trust-group of people who share a 'confirmed-good' PM for strategizing and analysis*. However, if someone approaches you, claiming to have scanned you and determined you are good, do exercise some caution, as I can see the elims trying to fake this. Finally, the element holder should remember to always speak the truth, or you lose your power for a cycle. The element of generosity is an interesting factor. it can (and should) be passed around, and should be kept on the elims, if at all possible. However, this means that in the early game any cycle with no lynch will very likely hit a villager anyway (this is guaranteed on this cycle), so we should probably no-lynch cycles. The element of Laughter is another interesting ability. I'd recommend caution when using this, but if you feel like the elims are trying to frame someone, or if you believe that some people have started tunneling on an innocent, it can be used to force discussion away from that person. Don't underestimate this ability, but exercise good judgement in using it, as you don't want to protect an elim at a critical moment. The element of Kindness is pretty useful, as it essentially reveals a confirmed-good pony at the end of the lynch that can still interact with the thread (remember, it doesn't matter if you can't vote, as long as you provide analysis that gets others voting). There isn't much in the way of strategy that I can provide for this element. The owner of the element of magic should avoid dying, if at all possible. You should definitely keep the fact that you hold this element secret to everyone that has not been absolutely confirmed good. Now, a note on role-less role-claiming: Just because you don't hold a power doesn't mean you should be telling the thread. Knowing that someone doesn't hold an element is very useful info for the elims. @Herowannabe, the goal of the elims is to kidnap all ponies holding an element of Harmony. What happens to an element if its owner is lynched? Also, what happens if all elements have been kidnapped, apart from the element of generosity, and the element of generosity is then passed on to a changeling? Now, I'm off to build an excel sheet for note-keeping. *Do note that, just because you've been scanned and have been confirmed good, you don't automatically get better judgement than anyone else. Keep listening to others in the thread, and don't be surprised if others are skeptical when you claim you've been confirmed good. In other words, don't try to become a Mayoral and exclusive group.
  12. Hey, I survived my whole first game as well. For some reasons, the elims never felt like attacking me...
  13. I'm pretty sure @A Joe in the Bush has something planned for an upcoming LG or MR.
  14. Nah, it starts on a night. at worst you'll get killed by the elims on your birthday .
  15. So, I know absolutely nothing about MLP, but this is quite an interesting game. So sure, I'll sign up. Name: Jeeves Type: Earth Pony Cutie Mark: An Equilateral Pyramid Cosmetic role: ordered and Organized: Each post must in some way reflect a well-ordered nature, whether by having observations and facts neatly explained and bullet-pointed in the post, having relevant quotes ready to answer rules questions or, if all else fails, just referring to the existence of said well-ordered notes and/or excel sheets.
  16. Hmmm, yes, I can see now how that would work, and how it can lead to some interesting agreements and betrayals ("Hey if you all promise not to vote on Amanuensis, we promise not to vote on Lopen").
  17. One thing I'm wondering about is the votes. Is this a standard lynch mechanic? I am wondering how/if that works in a purely faction driven game where you know exactly who is bad and who isn't.
  18. That was written by me, though I think BR opened that discussion? I now understand a lot better why people kept saying things like "Randuir looks helpful, but LG30..." in LG33, as I'll be saying "DB/Lopen looks helpful, but QF23..." a lot in the future, if only to myself.
  19. If I had to take a guess, then I'd say Ornstein might not have been following along that closely, and without the "this guy hunted down half the elim team" background info, someone pushing hard for getting your power would look just a tad bit suspicious . Even with that info, it might look a tad shady. Edit: I haven't seen your PM with Ornstein, of course, but a similar incident was only just averted in our earlier PM's. If you look back, you'll see that you pushed quite hard after we agreed to trade roles, and the only reason I didn't cut that off/lie was because I guessed you where probably the other knight based on the information you where pushing for.
  20. Wow, this was a really close game. A shame that you guys made the wrong bet in the end about which of Orlok and Ornstein was evil (though understandable, given what info you had).
  21. And now, apparently, I'm going to have to go and hand out a damnation apology (sorry Umodus), as there is one thing we didn't consider (and only bothered to ask after I put in the kill ). @TheMightyLopen, are you a librarian? Edit: sigh, I'm off to bed now, as I've clearly continued this till too late in the evening (1 AM ehre, and I already had an exisitng case of sleep-deprivation). Once again, sorry guys.
  22. So, here I was getting all ready to tell that I trusted both Lopen and queensteph, and how I was probably going to target one of 3 people who where somewhat active and not cleared in any way. Then I learned that you only get told that you are tripped if you've taken an action. Lopen knew he was tripped. He has also claimed to have no Talent whatsoever, nor would he have gotten any from Umodus. So either the person that told me that he hadn't told Lopen that he'd been tripped was lying, or Lopen and Umodus where lying. Some of these lies where also fairly recent, after it should have been beyond reasonable doubt that Yitizi and I are village. So, luckily I've got a quick and efficient way to check who's lying here. The world was rushing around Rand, as he swayed around in the saddle on Herb's back. He knew that he didn't have much time left in this world, but he didn't particularly care. Herb was rushing around, no, dancing around to a Jaunty tune in the middle of the town square. And Rand was dancing with him. Sure, it was more like swaying around in the saddle and trying not to get tossed, but it still qualified as dancing. This was the last item on his list. He knew he could let go peacefully after this. It made him feel al light inside, as if he was floating through the air. Or maybe that was because he'd lost his grip on Herb's saddle and had been tossed into the sky. Rand prepared for (more) pain as the ground came rushing up to meet him, but something soft broke his fall. Rand slowly stumbled to his feet and looked behind him. There, on the ground, was the detective that had been stalking around town. He'd been in just the right space at just the right time. Poor fellow had been knocked out cold though. In other words: I open my Music box, begin to dance, and Kill Agent Deuce (Umodus)
  23. Cluny's already dead though. Anyway, my second point relates to the statement I made regarding the conversion: If two of the Lopen-Siblings where Elims, they'd probably try to convert the third one. I checked, and being tripped blocks conversions, but does give the elims another try. Seeing the lack of conversions at a later point, I'd say the conversion wasn't targeted at Lopen. This, together with reads from Hero makes me reckon that Queensteph is probably a villager as well, despite her poor choice of husband (I was pretty convinced drought was good at that point as well, so I can't really blame her).
  24. A couple of things I'd like to get out of the way before I die: In C2, Drought contacted me, and among other things he was casting suspicions at Lopen, primarily for his support of multi-lynches and sme other small comments. Other people he mentioned in the PM where Cluny (Neutral, but wouldn't mind lynching) and Yitzi-(slight village). Based on his actions, I'd say Yitzi is almost certainly village, and I'd say that Lopen is most likely village as well, given that Drought(evil) was trying to whip up suspicion. It was also quite well argued (I joined his suspicion until Joe confirmed that the conversion and kill where mutually exclusive), so I don't think this was Drought trying to cover a team-mate in case he got lynched. I'm waiting for Joe to confirm something for me before I get into my second and third points.
