  1. Okay, important things first (RE: Hero and Joe rightfully disagreeing with my request of Bridgeboy earlier): A bunch of people where angry with Rand, and he couldn’t exactly fault them. Sure, he hadn’t actually broken any rules, but he’d definitely gone against their intent, which was almost as bad. So now he could either hope they’d all just forget about it, and that they didn’t decide to kick him out of town, or he could apologize. Rand didn’t want to get kicked out. “Hey everyone.” He was pretty sure he could hear some crickets chirping in the background. Awkward. “I’d just like to say I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been following the squirrel around to try and fin where it kept its mail. Sure, the rules about not reading others mail probably don’t really apply to animals, but it was wrong anyway. I promise not to break the rules, or the spirit of the rules again.” “So, you know, please don’t kick me out of town? There are strange places and adventure and ruined cities full of treasure out there, and I’d much rather stay safely here.” He hoped that had done the trick. So, now that I've RP'd a public apology my tuition shouldn't increase this cycle, right? I've done a quick reread of Bridge boy's posts, but I still can't really figure out how a villager could have made the mistake he did. It would have required him to not just accidentally put in the name of the elim faction, but he also made clear that he had to look up the name of the village faction somewhere, which means that the name of the elim faction was somehow far more clear in his mind than the name of the village faction, which just seems really odd if he'd been told he was a villager. So I won't be moving my vote of him. Apologies to him if he proves to be a villager after all. Also, @A Joe in the Bush, is it mentioned when a conversion happens? This is probably my last post of the cycle, so assuming that conversion is mentioned, here are some thoughts. The first reason for a conversion would be to recruit a certain Smedry talent. This would probably happen later in the game, as the elims will probably need some time to figure this out (unless they get lucky). The second reason would be if they want to recruit a certain person/ non rules-based talent to their team(For example, Seonid's talent for late-game analysis). In that case I'd expect the conversion to happen pretty early. So in conclusion, if they convert this cycle or the next, we should probably keep an eye on the more high-profile and/or experienced players, while if it happens later, you should maybe take a another look at that guy who claimed to be a bad dancer, or who was really ugly, or the guy that constantly trips over his own shoes (or any of the other talents).
  2. Yeah, you're right, I shouldn't have asked that that way. It was the whole "Don't worry guys, I'm village" that made me wonder whether he was deliberately trying to invoke the feel of a GM PM, which led me to asking that question. @Bridge Boy, feel free to ignore that particular request.
  3. So what you're basically saying here is that there is a very specific person who's not going to be too active, and you'd like us to all tell him about our (lack of) role? Anyway, we're about halfway through the cycle, so I might as well tag those who haven't posted (or been tagged) yet. @Seonid, @cloudjumper, @Ornstein, @Sart, @_Stick_, @Elbereth (I know you mentioned not being active for most of this cycle, but I prefer to be complete), @Cluny the Scourge. Also, bridge Boy. I've outlined the reasons above If he does provide a satisfactory answer to the suspicions leveled against him, I'll put my vote elsewhere. Vote tally: Magestar(1): Ecthelion Orlok(1): Herowannabe Bridge Boy(3): Mage, Lopen, Randuir
  4. Ah, thanks. I'd looked for the word 'marry', so I'd missed that part. Why would you need to read the rules to determine this? Your faction should be right at the top of your GM PM. No rules-reading required to get that correct. If you are indeed village, of course.
  5. Droughtbringer, stop saying things I'd been planning on saying! On that matter, what's up with this marrying everyone is talking about. I can't find anything about it in the rules. Anyway, there is one point of advice I'd like to share with regards to the vote manipulation powers. I've often seen the advice given to use those powers on an inconsequential vote C1 or C2. However, I'd recommend not announcing yourself that way, and instead only using the power when you believe its needed. It is my experience that for the elims, knowing how many vote manip powers are out there is the first step to knowing who they are, and knowing who they are is the first step to getting them killed, or manipulating them to vote the way you want. @Bridge Boy. Could you tell me how exactly your faction indicator in the GM PM was spelled, as well as the colour? Maybe it's just me, but I get suspicious when someone tries to say "Don't worry, I'm a villager" as his first post in the game. Anyway, I might try to RP a bit later, but I haven't read Alcatraz yet, so we'll see how that goes.
  6. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Droughts plan would only work out on the timeline he described it if no one gets lynched/ killed by the elims anyway (and neatly divides their PM's around, rather than everyone contacting Lopen or Orlok C1). I'm not saying its a bad plan (I'd been planning on suggesting something like this in my first post of the game), just that the expectation to have everyone talking to everyone by C4 is a bit unrealistic.
  7. So, it seems like I'll have space in my schedule for this game after all. Sign me up as Rand, a guy who was born in raised in Nallhalla, and has absolutely nothing to do with ancient prophecies and has no intention of ever leaving his country for adventures elsewhere.
  8. Still, I'd say you'd have been far more inclined to vote quickly on a suitable target if you where an elim, meaning that you likely wouldn't have missed your chance to vote in that case. Plus, you probably wouldn't have corrected me if you where an elim.
  9. I've gone over @_Stick_'s posts again, and there is one particular thing that stood out to me that I want to point out, namely that Stick didn't vote on D1. Stick wasn't the only one to abstain from voting, of course, but it strikes me as potentially alignment indicative because Stick had little reason not to vote. She was a potential candidate for being brought on the horns, so I doubt anyone would have complained if she had voted on someone random to decrease the chances of getting in trouble. I think Elim!stick would have made use of this chance to vote and both reduce the chances of getting in trouble, and increasing the chances of someone else getting in trouble, so the fact that she didn't seems to indicate to me that she's probable a villager. I'm not saying that anyone that voted that cycle is automatically an elim, I'm just pointing out that an elim would have had no reason to hold back from voting if he/she was voted on. Apart from Sticks actions at the start of this cycle, I don't really see anything else that is particularly alignment indicative, so at the moment I'm having a slight village read on stick.
  10. His father's letter had filled Telar with a sense of guilt. He hadn't been completely truthful about how well his studies had been going in the last letter he'd sent home, and he hadn't been able to bring himself to write another one since. Still, his studies had bee going somewhat better since then, though Telar still couldn't imagine himself becoming a doctor, like his father wanted. With a sigh, Telar put the letter down and started looking for some paper to write a response. AS he did so, he noticed a new scrap of paper on the floor of his room. He picked it up, and was surprised to recognize the graceful writing of his aunt. Telar wasn't sure how long he'd been staring at the letter. It must have been a long time though, as the room seemed to have gone all misty. He looked at the blank appear he'd picked up to write a reply, but he couldn't think of anything to write. Instead he packed something light to eat and headed to the archives. There was probably some additional assignment or exercise he should really be doing, rather than writing letters, or thinking about home or...
  11. One vote tally, coming right up. Vote Tally: Drake(1): STINK Stick(1): STINK Alvron(2): Arinian*2 Stink(2): Drake*2 Arinian(9): Cluny, Jondesu, HH, Alvron*2, Straw*2, Orlok, Randuir Straw(3): Joe In The Bush, Orlok, Steph Orlok(1): Sart Wilson(1): Sart Sart(1): Wilson The only change from Queenstephs tally on the previous page is my vote on arinian, if I'm not mistaken. Edit: I was mistaken, Drake voted on STINK a second time.
  12. If someone was asking village!arin to do that, he'd have stepped froward and accused that person by now, I think. If arinian is an elim, than any requests of that nature would have happened in their doc, which can't be spied upon.
  13. Alright, time to go over a couple more people. I'll be looking at Arinian, Alvron and Jondesu this time around. For those wondering, I partly pick these people based on current suspicions and discussions, and partly because I think some people seem to be flying under the radar (which is the case with Alv and Jondesu in my opinion) Let's start with @Arinian. He only posted twice in T1.1, announcing that he'd probably be inactive for the first term in the first post, and trying to vote on SIlverBlade5 (without any further explanation) through a dodgy internet connection in the second post. His vote was far enough to the back of the cycle that it could have been part of the damage control after PK's vote, but it should be noted that SB5 was a caeldish commoner, and therefore not particularly capable of taking a 2 talent penalty. On the other hand, SB hadn't posted anything yet by that point, so that could have been the motivation. His posts in T1.2 do not contain much information to judge his alignment by either. He states that he thinks we don't really learn anything from the lynch (not true, in hindsight, as it got queensteph of the hook for buying the gram). He then participates in voting for a it, putting votes on DA, stick and Brightness, but retracting the votes from stick and brightness after they point out that they've already been on the horns once, which is a good enough reason, I think. In T2.1, Arinian states twice that he doesn't see why everyone is so suspicious of Queensteph, and started by voting on PK with the following reason: In light of Arinians more recent vote pattern, I find it somewhat odd that Arinian thought that 'being too fast with throwing votes' was a good reason to suspect PK. Arinian later recalled both of these votes alter to vote on Burnt (based on her defense for buying the gram), and on Brightness based on gut. I don't particularly like pure gut votes, but this is not a particularly odd thing for him to do, in my experience. Arinian's actions this cycle have already been thoroughly discussed. I can more easily see why Elim!arin would do that though, because village!Arin hasn't as much to gain from extorting a claim from Alvron, unless he was really certain that Alvron was evil (and Arin hasn't given any indication of suspecting Alv in his earlier posts). Next up is @Alvron. In the first three months he mostly just jumped in to ask questions, placed some votes on people who could take it to reduce tuition and had some funny banter with Burnt. In a way, arinian might have done the village a favor, as his votes caused Alv to start posting a bit more seriously. Not that I didn't enjoy the less serious posts, but it is a bit hard to try and get alignment indicative info out of. Unfortunately I can't really get anything useful from his posts this cycle either, though maybe he would have argued against sabotaging mage so early in the game if he was evil? Or maybe his comment about having something to settle with Hael, burnt and mage was merely made to make us think he'd avoid targeting them until he could do something interesting. So, yeah, in case it wasn't clear, I haven't got a clue about Alvron's alignment at the moment, though if Arin is evil, alv almost certainly isn't. So, this brings me to @Jondesu. He hasn't been as active as I've seen him in other games, but he warned about that in his very first post, so that's not really indicative of anything. There are three posts of his that stand out to me as odd. First, there is this one from T1.2 (page 10 of the thread): Personally, I'd start with the discussion about whether it is wise to claim in the thread, before asking if anyone wants to do so. Depending on how much paranoia one uses when looking at this, it's either an attempt to get public role-claims, with an added dose of caution to seem village, or it's just a request for discussion about that. Then there's this set of posts(page 10 and 13 respectively, no other posts from Jondesu in between): I find it a bit odd that Jon seems to have gone from 'wary' to 'suspicious enough to vote' with no real indication in between. However, he could have just been taking advantage of the fact that I was staying at the golden pony to get a non-damaging vote in. If that's the case though, he didn't indicate this particularly well. For the rest, there isn't much that really stands out to me in Jondesu's posts. The two odd things I pointed out make me a bit wary of him, but I'm not outright suspicious. So, for now I'm voting arinian. I'll try to discuss some more people later (specifically, I want to take another look at Drake's posts and review stick's posts).
  14. Let me turn this around. Why would you try to extort a role-claim from one of the players least capable of taking the two talent hit if you are village? Especially since you haven't stated any suspicion of Alvron before this, If I'm not particularly mistaken.
  15. Telar was spending long days at the university again. He was determined to earn and Elevation to E’lir this term, but after thoroughly ruining his chances by oversleeping, he needed to put in a lot of work to make it happen. So he took on extra assignments, and worked twice as hard on all mandatory work to try and repair the damage. If this meant spending most of his waking hours in classes or lectures, so be it. Right now he was slaving away on an assignment for his Medica courses. He’d still not gotten over the nausea he suffered from whenever he was confronted with pictures of severely damaged human bodies, but he’d promised his father that he’d follow these course, so he just wrestled through as best he could. Another student was sitting at a desk next to his. Though maybe sitting wasn’t the right word. Reclining? Lounging? Resting? The student would wake up, study for a couple of minutes, then fall asleep again. Telar took a better look at what the student was doing. Based on his notes and the book he was currently using as a pillow he was studying the human bone structure. Among his notes was a rough drawing of a human rib-cage with the names of the various bones marked. Telar looked back to his own work. One of the questions he needed to answer was about the basic complications that could occur because of the various ribs breaking. The diagram the sleeping student had made would certainly be useful for that. He started to reach over to the other students notes. The boy was asleep, so he wouldn’t notice that the note had gone missing, and judging by his clothing he was a Noble, so it wasn’t like he needed to rush through his study anyway. ‘It is human nature to always find justification for his actions, no matter how selfish and unjustifiable that action is.’ Telar sighed and pulled his hand back. The one Medica course he actually enjoyed was psychology, but it did make fooling yourself quite difficult. Telar reached out to the other student again, and gently shook his shoulder o wake him up. “Hey, I’m sorry to wake you, but I’d noticed we are working on something similar. Maybe if we help each-other out , we can both go home early and get some proper rest.” Telar offered his hand to the other student. “I’m Telar Pike, by the way.” @Hemalurgic_Headshot. I'll try to get some more analysis up tomorrow.
  16. Personally, I'd take a 10% chance of an action failing over a 10% chance of what is basically death, but that could just be me.
  17. I'd missed the announcement about Naming. However, as straw said the name of the wind doesn't count towards insanity, so even if he learnt a new name PK's base bonus wouldn't exceed +1. He could have been staying in the mews, but I don't see why he would take that risk if he could pay for Ankers. I agree that PK is an unusual target (if the elims didn't know what field he'd studied) and Hael would make more sense as a target, but I can't make the math match up.
  18. Well, listing the abilities one-by-one in different posts could be a way to see which one someone has based purely on the reactions he gives, so I can see why STINK thought you where doing that.
  19. I've taken a quick look through the last page of the last cycle again, and there are some things I wanted to react to (For those paying attention, yes, I was looking at the thread with some regularity in the last two hours yesterday, but that was from mobile and I was too busy with other stuff to actually reply to anything). @little wilson, It's not entirely clear from me how you went from 'Whoever bought that gram is probably evil (relevant quote in spoiler tag), to 'Burnt is probably innocent (despite buying that gram)'. Her defense for buying it was not too flimsy, but it merely explained why someone would buy the gram (she mentioned herself that she'd have bought it if she was evil as well). Just for the record, I'm not accusing you of anything, I'm just somewhat puzzled as to what made you decide to no longer go after Burnt. @Ornstein, the reason that some people where a little irritated about your decision to vote on Orlok without providing reasoning is that, no matter if you're right or wrong, placing a vote that way doesn't actually help the village. Very few people will be willing to follow a player when all the reason he provides for a vote is gut, so in a game with a standard lynch, it doesn't help at all. With the way the lynch in this game works, it is even far more reasonable to assume that you are an elim trying to get someone expelled, rather than a villager voting on a suspicion. Providing reasoning also helps in case something where to happen to your character, as it gives others something to analyze and to look for a motive of what happened, which in turn can help in finding the elims.
  20. Sunlight streaming in through his window woke Telar up. He still felt incredibly tired. His mind was fuzzy and he could barely remember the previous night. He’d spent most of it in the archives doing research, but why he’d done so eluded him. He slowly got up from his bed, and got a first good look around his room. A large amount of papers were strewn across the floor. Telar picked one up and found it covered in numbers. Apparently it was a list tabulating how many cases of cracking the university had to deal with during a period a number of years back. But why had he… Telar’s mind finally joined the rest of him in the waking world, and his memories of the previous evening came back. On a whim, he’d looked into a Master Hael that was mentioned in a note in a book he’d been reading in the archives. This had led him down a rabbit-hole of reports and ledgers, and though nothing he could get his hands said it outright, it was clear something really bad had occurred. A large number of students had either gone insane, had been expelled or had been killed. None of the ledgers he’d had access to had mentioned skindancers, and when he’d asked one of the scrivs for a report mentioned in one of the ledgers he’d been told that the masters had restricted that information to members of the Arcanum. That hindrance would be solved soon though. Telar started changing into a clean set of clothes. He had been summoned by one of the masters, and Telar was pretty sure he would be elevated. The meeting was somewhat early in the morning, but judging by the sunlight coming in through his window it was still early. ‘Wait. Sunlight is streaming in directly through my window. The window that is facing west.’ Telar groaned. Missing that meeting meant he could probably forget about getting elevated before the end of the term.
  21. Okay, so Hael and PK went insane. If I'm not mistaken there are no offensive actions that cause insanity apart from sabotage, so one of these two must have gone insane naturally. Hael hadn't advanced yet, so he wouldn't have had a source of insanity from that, and PK had only advanced once, so that would have been at most a +1 (not enough for natural insanity to occur). PK is an yllish commoner, and had posted enough to be able to afford Ankers without exceeding his tuition (I think, I haven't done a precise count of his actions yet), so he wouldn't have gotten extra insanity from his lodgings. Hael, on the other hand, was an Edema Ruh. If he wanted to stay at Ankers (2 talents for Edema) he'd have to have had at least 5 talents of reduction on his tuition, and I don't think he managed that after quickly glancing over his posts. If he was staying at the mews then it is possible he just got unlucky and went insane naturally. So it seems that PK must have been the target, and Hael just got extremely unlucky. However, this brings up the question of why they targeted PK. Some people, like myself, where suspicious of him because of his actions in starting the voting on D1, and making him go insane removes that suspicion. He was one of the people that had advanced in the previous cycle though, so the elims might have targeted him if they suspected he had advanced in a dangerous field. Let's dig a bit more in that possibility. The following people advanced last turn and did not claim as specific field of interest in the thread: Queensteph, PK, Burnt, Orlok, Alvron, Eolhondras and Sart. Maybe it's just me, but if I where going to take a random guess at who would have a dangerous field, I'd go after Alvorn or Orlok, as they are dangerous players in their own right, even if they only advance in logic and rethoric or some other field with low kill-power. This makes me suspect that the elims either want to avoid eliminating the more high-profile players this early, or they already knew PK's field of study. Has PK told anyone what he was studying or that he claimed to some specific people? Edit, Edit2: Also, there have been only 8 elevations this turn, which means that one field is not getting any attention at all. At a guess, I'd say it's the field PK or Sart was studying (as otherwise I'd have expected one of those that had advanced previously to be elevated again).
  22. DeTess

    I came back

    Fantastic work, as usual!
  23. The large hall of the Tomes was mostly silent, the only sounds being the rustle of paper, the scratching of quills on paper and the muted footsteps of scrivs moving stacks of books around. Telar was quietly working on a paper for one of his classes. He’d needed a number of different books, so he’d decided to work directly in the Tomes rather than bringing the books to work elsewhere. His work had been progressing steadily, and Telar was putting the final touches to his work when he came across a note written in faded ink in a margin of one of the books. “Master Hael is a skindancer. Don’t trust him and pass the word around!” Telar frowned. As far as he knew there wasn’t any master Hael working at the University. The note itself looked old and faded. And who would write such a note to begin with. The master of the Archives wasn’t exactly forgiving to people that vandalized his books. Telar quickly flipped a couple of pages in the book, before any of the Scrivs saw the note. Telar finished his work and prepared to pack up. Then, on a whim he asked a scriv if he could get him a ledger with the names of all the past masters of the university. The note probably meant nothing, but with everyone scared about the so-called ‘skindancers’, it might be worth looking into. *** Telar missed diner that evening, and spent most of that night going through various lists, ledgers and university bulletins. When he finally did go home to sleep he dreamed of skin-less people chasing him down empty hallways. In case it needed to be said, 'Master Hael' does not refer to Haelbarde's current character, but to his character in LG18.
  24. And though it is correct that arithmetic isn't directly dangerous, your claim makes it easier to figure out who do have directly harmful powers. Plus, don't underestimate the power of having a lot of Talents.
  25. Yeas, I suppose that way you could have gotten it. still, Burnt has said that she bought it, so i guess this discussion is somewhat moot. There is no tradition that prevents you from claiming what your field is, though it might help the elims pick their targets more carefully.
