I can see the logic behind banning them to check whether the naming scheme worked out, but ockams razor was very much against it, as if he was an elim, either a whole bunch of other player where lying, or a whole bunch of role manipulation was going unclaimed. Anyway, since @Kidpen's vote manipulation failed to materialize, I'd say we've found another spammer.

Alright, I can't promise a wall of text right now, but I'll see what i can do. before I get tot hat though: @xinoehp512, did you change anyone's target last night? Otherwise, the lack of claim for the last unaccounted for redirect could have been the result of sookesiled using your role, and would confirm that that role exists (assuming Snipexe is telling the truth, of course). Anyway, I believe Meta, Snip, Araris, Kidpen and Walin are the People of Interest for being the last OG spammer(s), if any areleft at all (I promise I'll start hunting for a convert starting next cycle, but that'll be significantly more work that i don't have time for right now). Meta stated support for the Roadwalker lynch relatively early (when he only had 3 votes, and me and Ada where trying to lynch Elandera), but only voted after the Rae counter-wagon failed. They seem to be punting serious effort into solving the game, and based on their comments they seem to have a village role of some sort. Doesn't clear them from being the convert, but I'm reading them as slight village right now. Snipexe was aware of why people where suspicious of Devotary during D2, as he said as much in thread. That makes it even more odd why he decided to vote for Cadcom instead during that cycle. Their role and redirect-claim this cycle came after several other people made similar claims, so it could have been fabricated, though I'm not suspicious enough of him to want to risk killing a potential village protection role this cycle. Araris had been voting on Alv since D1. A D1 vote I could see as distancing, but his consistent vote on Alv seems to be genuine. His lack of strong reasonoing actually makes it look slightly better, as Spammer!araris could have just found a better reason elsewhere when it looked like Alv was in trouble to try and get the lynch of him. Kidpen's vote on cadcom early N2 looks off, to put it mildly. I did harbor similar doubts, as I asked similar questions to kidpen shortly after Cadcoms claim, but I can't figure out the reason for village!kidpen to vote there. IF they can prove their role this cycle they'd clearly not be an OG eliminator, which makes the cadcom interaction look less suspicious, but if they can't, I'd be up for lynching them next cycle. I've got absolutely nothing on Walin, which bothers me. He has checked in with some regularity, but apart from a vote on Rath after he'd already been scan-cleared he hasn't really done much. So, if I where to order these 5 from most to least suspicious, it'd Be Kidpen, Snipexe, Walin, Araris, Metabard. I've explained above why I'm willing to give Kidpen the benefit of the doubt for one more cycle, and why I don't want to vote on Snipexe, right now, so that means my vote ends up on Walin.

Hmmm, with the full explanations from Snipexe and Furami it seems like Droughts explanation fits. It certainly fits a bit better than 'drought is Beirst, and there's 3 people that are redirecting, but haven't claimed for some reason' , so Droughtbringer. @Elandera, you make an interesting case against Fifth, but can you explain why he would claim the kill on Rath at all if he was a spammer? Because that's the one major thing I'm just not seeing him doing if he was a spammer using the spammer kill, as there was nothing to be gained from it as far as I can see. If he made that claim, and then immediately suggested a lynch on someone based on activity I could see the goal being to guide the village to a mislynch, but as it stands I can't see the motive. @Kidpen, did you pick up the vote manipulation power? If so, could you demonstrate it this cycle? @Snipexe, can you share what exactly you targeted cadcom with?

Might I suggest Elsecaller instead? It was a role in LG30 that did exactly what you just described, and wouldn't have broken the known naming convention In a way, this break with the known naming convention bothers me as it already burned the spammer team once, but not enough to retract my vote, because as Fifth pointed out, swapping targets didn't explain the multiple action failures. Just to ensure the record is correct though: @Furamirionind, did your action fail because it was redirected, or because it was redirected to Drought? @Snipexe, who did you target before getting redirected?

yeah, from what I'm hearing here, Drought is very much sounding like Beirst, which makes me wonder even more aibout the Crusader. Edit: I'm being dumb. If drought is Beirst, the crysader's attack would have failed, of course.

@Seventh Saint, don't forget the possibility of the spam-bots also targeting Rath. ( @A Joe in the Bush, @xxGaea, would we be informed if someone was killed by multiple different attacks?) I also find it odd that the crusader seems to be refraining from killing. @Adavantos, you had PM contact with them, so presumably know who they are. Do you think it's possible that they have been converted? Anyway, I'd say that with Rath's death, Elandera and Mailliw's role has been confirmed (though either could be the convert). Anyway, of those that could possibly be an OG spammer (if there still is one), only Walin didn't post last night, so he'd be the obvious suspect if the spammers forgot to put in the kill.

The game itself likely lasts about 2 weeks or so, with ten games spread over three months. Last year, I could indiacate which start-time I preferred, and I expect the same thing to happen this year. Sorry if that was not clear.- 636 replies

If I vote on someone that had not votes on them before my vote, I add two more votes. The confirmation we have is that no one counterclaimed. It could have been that mailliw got converted and it was a ruse to help Xinoeph, but I don't think that's very likely.

mafia championship A Knock from Outside the Cosmere
DeTess replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So, another year or so has passed since the last championships, which means that it's once again time for the mafia championship! This invitation contains all the juicy details, but let me quickly give the bits of info that are most important right now: the Deadline for selecting a representative is the 26th of April, with the games of the competition happening during April, May and June (each game taking 2-3 weeks on average, and you'll play in at most a qualifying game, the wildcard game and then the finals). We can send a single representative, so I suggest we use the next week or so for general nominations and checking who is interested in representing us, and if a mod could rig this thread up with a pol afterwards so we can vote for who should represent us, that'd be great. Now, a quick pass on my personal experience representing us last year. First of all, playing in the championship is intense. During that time, I spend all my free time on it(which was less than usual, as it coincided with my internship), and I still felt like I was falling behind a decent chunk of the time. That doesn't mean it wasn't fun, but you should keep in mind that you'll need to put in a lot of time each day (the most prolific poster in my game had as many posts on his own as an average LG on these forums has in total). It was also (mostly) a lot of fun to interact with some new faces and see some different play-styles, and I'd say that being exposed to new approaches and stepping out of our own meta definitely helped me improve as a player. If anyone has any questions, feel free to kick them towards Amanuensis (@Adavantos) or me if it's about our experiences playing, or int eh direction of @Thingyman if it's somethign related to the logistics of the tournament. Now then, on to nominations (as usual, vote in red ) : Furami @Furamirionind, I've been quite impressed by your entrance into our community and the games I've seen you play, so do you reckon you've got the guts time to represent us? edit: link to my championship game from last year- 636 replies

*laughs like crazy* You've got to admit, there's something very poetic about Alvron of all people falling to a multi-tie like this. And I agree with Ada that this was a very brave move on his part, and it could probably have turned things around if he'd succeeded. If I had to guess, I'd say there's a single OG spammer and a convert left at this point. edit: ITIAH, what makes you so sure there was only one elim in that tie?

Thanks, that's useful. I've found a bunch on my own, but this helps. I've been doing some more checking around on Alv's previous playstyles (MR27, LG47, LG48), and it seems that LG51 might indeed have been an anomaly, so that'd move Alvron back to Neutral territory. In fact, seeing how he started MR31 suggests that Alv has something of a different approach to conversion games, which is interesting. So, if not Alv, then who? Earlier this thread, I had the following list of suspects for the remaining OG spammers: @May I suggest The Only Joe xinoehp512 Snipexe Alvron |257|-| Araris Valerian Kidpen Walin Of these, Kidpen has, presumably, an role than could easily be confirmed next cycle. Xinoeph has also claimed a role, whose claim is backed up by Mailliw. If Mailliw is the spammer convert, it could have been a maneuver concocted to clear Xinoeph, but I'm having a hard time figuring out why they'd target Mailliw for the conversion. Rath has been scanned as village+mailliw's crew, and if he'd been Beirst, he'd only have scanned as village (and have been unconvertible). That is assuming Elandera isn't a spammer, though, but for that set to work out, mailliw would have to be evil as well. Drought has been suggesting he actually has a role of sorts, probably something that switches two people around wrt to targeting, though that's harder to check. So, the list could be shortened to: @May I suggest The Only Joe Snipexe Alvron Araris Valerian Walin Unfortunately, all of these are lower active, which makes determining who, if any, of them are evil more difficult. @Mailliw772, just to confirm, your 'conversion' also works on spammers, right? So, after due consideration, I've decided I'll move my vote from Alvron, as I'm not more suspicious of him than the other 4, and he does have a reasonable sounding role-claim. I've got absolutely nothing on Walin and Snipexe, while I see a bit of game-solving being done by Araris. Content from @May I suggest The Only Joe is also pretty low right now. For now, I'll vote on Snipexe, ( @Snipexe) as they clearly are paying some attention to the thread, judging by their vote on Cadcom. Snipexe, I really hope to see some of your game-ralted thoughts. I know this game has been moving relatively quickly, but a lot of it has been tie-dances and meta-theological discussions, so it shouldn't be that hard to add something beyond a wild vote on Cadcom.

@Renalvgade, do you have a suggestion for which game I should look at, then? Going further back than lg51 would involve dropping out of your easily accessible posting history, but if you've got a suggestion before I retire in an hour or so, I'd happily take another look around.

@Cadmium Compounder, which specific past role is your role currently emulating? I'm pretty wary of those immediately jumping on his lynch,a s it's an all-but-confirmed mislynch, which would give the evil team some much-needed breathing room.

I've looked through LG51, which was the most recent 'standard' game in which Alv played, and the difference in play-style was striking. Alv was very proactive that game, suggesting plans and pushing for information, so I'm not buying the 'I always am low on content' argument at all, so my vote is staying. For those looking to create a multi-tie, I add an additional two votes when I'm the first to vote on someone. I initially kept it more vague in the hope of maybe baiting out a false claim, but that's not looking very likely.

Unfortunately, unless we've got something ridiculous like a quintuple tie, it'll only really prove something if you're wrong, as you'd have a 50% chance to be right regardless of whether you have the role you claim or not. Your readiness to put it to the test is noted though. And I'm fairly sure I've seen you post more of substance in other games, as this game is particularly light on stuff from you. I'll take a look through your last few games to check on the 'not-voting' thing and the substance thing to confirm I'm not misrememebring, though.

*mutters something about remembering to spell-check my own posts before people quote them with all the horrible mistakes still in place* But yeah, unless you can think of another way in which you could make more use of your role, using it to clear you might be very helpful. Plus, vote manipulation can be very useful in the late game.

How do you conclude that Rath was involved? it seems to me that someone either someone targeted Rae with something that redirects a single action, or targeted you with something that redirects actions. Neither of these are capabilities of any of the original elim roles, nor suggest a connection between Rath and Rae, or am I missing something?

Okay, my most recent deadline has just passed, so I should have some time for analysis. On this first round, I'll ignore the existence of a convert, as mby my reckonign no one was converted until this night at the earliest. The players currently still alive are: Elandera @May I suggest The Only Joe xinoehp512 Furamirionind Adavantos Aranduensis NotASteelClone I think I am here. Seventh Saint Cadmium Compounder Mailliw772 Snipexe alVoidus |257|-| Araris Valerian Kidpen Sapphire Elephant Walin Of these, the following people have confirmed the presence of a village role to me: Myself, Steel, Cadcom The following people have got 1 or more other people confirming the presence of a role, or some other slightly less direct means: Mailliw772, Ada, Fura The following people seem to have received claims that the elims would reasonably have acted on, but didn't; ITIAH (Fura's kinda-scanner-like role-thingy) Seventh Saint has made a claim that he held an extra life, and seriously tried to get a lynch on himself going, which seems like a very odd thing to do if he was lying, though it's not an impossible gambit. Elandera claimed to be a second Disciple of herowannabe, and a previous comment confirms suggests that she did indeed claim that role to tiny wilson. Keeping in mind that the evil team managed to kill Jondesu N1 though, it's not impossible that hat was a role-name they actually knew about, and Evil!elandera used that as part of a claim. @xxGaea, @GaeaXX, Can you confirm or deny village roles being unique or not? Anyway, dropping the above 10 people from the list leaves me with only 8 more, being: @May I suggest The Only Joe xinoehp512 Snipexe alVoidus |257|-| Araris Valerian Kidpen Walin Of these, @Kidpen, @Snipexe, @Walin @xinoehp512 and @May I suggest The Only Joe have been pretty low on activity, making them hard to parse. Droughts reveal that he knew of a couple of roles that could have obfuscated someone's alignment was interesting however, and I'd like to know if he can elaborate on that a bit more. Could the results of Rath's current role-scan be a result of that, for example? @Kidpen claimed to have a role similar to Steel's scavenger ability. Could you pick up Tiny Wilson's ability which allowed for votes to be moved? That'd be easy to check. While rereading the past days, I also encountered this post : Note that Rath considers Crimsn's claimed role-name to be reasonable. If he hadn't done any role-exchanges or whatever, this might be a villager thing, but even a villager would already seen Jon's name to add to his own-role name and notice a lack of pattern. On the other hand, he claimed that his scan happened at a time when Crimsn wouldn't have been protected by their ability, which seems odd if it was a lie. Anyway, until I learn a bit more about potential role-scan shenanigans, I won't be voting on Rath. I'll be dropping a vote on Alvron instead. they've said very little of substance, and though they do have a role-claim on record, it came after the naming convention was already revealed, and it's something very hard to check. They where also very late to actually join in the vote against Devotary, and their comment about having to vote bothers me a lot. Unfortunately, explaining the exact reason why would involve revealing something I've been told in PM's that I probably shouldn't, but if @Renalvgade could elaborate on why he made that comment, it might set some of my suspicions to rest.

I've done both as an elim. Underestimating numbers leads to nasty surprises, while overestimating numbers can lead to desperate plays and more paranoia than is warranted, which can be exploited by someone in the right spot. That having been said, I don't think Ada's an elim yet. He knew about the vigilante kill against road, and knew the naming convention for village roles, so if he is evil, he's been doing a fairly poor job at keeping his team alive so far.

That'll take a while yet though, as you'll be converted tonight, and it's going to take till D6 at least for your survival to be suspicious enough to justify a lynch On a semi-related note, I'm fairly certain the elims hadn't converted anyone yet, as converting any of the usual suspects, or anyone else with some PM communication with them would have gotten them the inside scoop on the village role naming convention.

I'm catching up on yesterday's thread, so I'll be including some random thoughts here. Here, crimsn tries to incriminate Seventh Saint. The lynch at the time wasn't completely closed yet, so it makes me elan more village on Seventh. Metabard, Elandera and Alvron all voted after the tie got broken against Devotary in the late game, when it (at least in hindsight), looked like the game was up for Devotary. Alv's comment in particular is pretty odd. That's it for my first quick skim, though I'm curious where the other extra vote on Crimsn came from. If someone wants to claim that, I think it'd be useful extra info.

Crimsn Chanarach Thanks for humoring me here. It's not that odd an ability if you know all the relevant details, such as the name.
