  1. http://coppermind.net/wiki/Hoid#Abilities He comments in WoR about playing music being easier now that he has perfect pitch, so he probably has at least 200 Breaths. He tried to become an Elantrian once, but failed.
  2. How do you mean this? Do you mean it can't move at all until the moment it is first checked after Kelsier's Inspiration has happened, or that it can't move the first turn after Kelsier's Inspiration, unless it is also checked during that turn?
  3. Actually, this inspired this They're basically the same, except the second one actually has real rules. (By the way, Zahel is also seen playing with some stones in WoR. It is assumed that he is in fact playing a miniature version of Tarachin with himself, which is interesting on many levels.)
  4. I'm pretty sure the painlessness is just an effect of pain receptors being dulled and dulled due to repeated overstimulation, and not actually anything magical. The same can happen in our world, to some extent.
  5. Asimov was one of Brandon's inspirations in creating the Cosmere, because he wanted to do that kind of thing, but actually do it consciously from the very beginning.
  6. I don't remember the exact circumstances when the cube Pushes Wayne's belt and Wax's gun, but there could have been stuff all around it to Push, since it Pushed out in all directions. That would explain why it wasn't repelled; it had other stuff to brace against. I was confused a bit too about the Leeching cube not touching Wax, but maybe that's just how Ettmetal works. The spoiler Weltall posted could explain how that's possible, if not why. It could have interesting consequences for other powers, like Nicrosil. Edit: Also, the Set never manages to figure out how the weight storing works. I think you meant the Southerners. I'm assuming they use Ettmetal and Feruchemy, somehow.
  7. Here's the Stick chapter, for anyone who wants to get a real sense of the Stick's mind.
  8. They mean things like the gold metalmind one of the Set members had, that Wayne used in BoM. It's tappable by any Gold Ferring. But the Nicrosilminds in Medallions are different, because they are tappable by anyone, regardless of them being Nicrosil Ferrings or not.
  9. From WoR, chapter 88: So yeah, I think it's pretty clear that her mother knew what she was, and tried to kill her for it.
  10. Yeah, but then, would multiple Lashings be possible? There would be no gravity left to take a fraction from. It might be useful just as a way to think about it, though. Even if it isn't how it really works. My guess is that Lashings are just a comfortable unit for both the reader (IRL) and the Surgebinder (in-universe) to work with. So a Surgebinder who went to Scadrial (and could use their power there) would probably start off using Rosharan Lashings, but would adjust to Scadrial's gravity over time, and then that would be a more natural unit to work with for them. In other words, there's nothing special about a unit of Lashing except that it is much more intuitive for both the user and the reader. I don't really have any evidence for that though. I can think of a few reasons why it might be wrong, even... Regardless, Lashing has only been shown on Roshar, so we have to assume that normally, Lashings are meant in relation to the gravity at that planet. (Which of course isn't the same value everywhere, but pretty constant.)
  11. Thanks! All of those seem to be fairly well-read though, so I'm not sure if it's necessarily a word used in casual conversation. Probably a known word, but maybe considered a bit complicated or academic. That would be my guess, anyway.
  12. What will the "official" abbreviation for Oathbringer be? OB? Ob? O???
  13. Momentum (mass times velocity) seems to be conserved, so he would slow down as he increases his weight.
  14. Has anyone other than Jasnah used the word?
  15. I think there was some confusion about whether Brandon meant "the Five Scholars" or just Nalthian scholars in general, but I don't know if I've actually seen the WoB itself, so I'm not sure.
  16. Honestly, we don't know if the Tranquiline Halls even exist. We're assuming so, since it's a fantasy series and everything, but we don't actually know. In theory it could just be a religious belief and nothing else. I'm pretty sure they do exist myself, but...
  17. Nice physicsing, @Elenion! However, while it doesn't affect your conclusion, Roshar has lower gravity than Earth, so the numbers are slightly off. I think a Rosharan g would be around 6 or 7 m/s², maybe. Edit: Also, I just remembered, half a Lashing seems to cancel out gravity and make you weightless, right? That would mean that one Lashing is twice the Rosharan g... But on the other hand, there's no mention of counteracting the normal gravity when Lashing sideways. So it is a bit unclear exactly how Lashing works.
  18. It would completely depend on what was Pushed or Lashed. Lashing affects the acceleration (distance / (time²)) of an object, while Pushing provides a force (mass * acceleration). We don't know exactly how Lashing works, and how it affects more massive objects (after all, you can't Lash the whole planet or anything). But from what we know, you would get twice as much force on a coin if it's twice as heavy, because the acceleration is the same, but the mass is doubled. That would not be true for Pushing - a heavier coin would accelerate less. Though, if there is some kind of mass point where the two meet, I'm not sure where it is. It might be way out of the range for normal-sized coins. But @Jondesu has a big point that it also depends on how long the two last. The impulse might be what you want to consider, in the end. Duralumin provides a short force spike, while Lashing acts over a longer time.
  19. Didn't Isaac write the broadsheet for BoM (at least the Nazh story in it)? Not sure if that would qualify, but still!
  20. I have the "old" version so I can't check, but iirc the actual fabrial is never shown or described... not sure. Edit: I misremembered exactly what was changed; the fabrial is mentioned in my version. However, it is only described as "glowing brightly". Szeth never gets a proper look at it before Nale tucks it away.
  21. Soulcasters don't hold spren, do they? All other fabrials do, but I was under the impression that Soulcasters were an exception.
  22. I always felt like Graves had his own agenda, but I didn't really think it was because he had interpreted the Diagram differently - I didn't even consider the possibility that he had studied it himself, instead of just being a henchman. Absolutely. But it would be interesting if the Diagram actually broke into civil war over the whole world domination thing. I wonder if the Diagram predicted anything like that...
  23. Do we know when the Dor formed? What I meant was that I think it formed as a result of the two shards mixing in the Cognitive Realm after their splintering. (But I know about your theory as well.) I guess I just don't see why the merging of just two shards should tell us much about what merging all sixteen shards (which is what the question was about) would do, especially considering that we don't know very much about the original shards (or even the Dor, as far as Intent and stuff goes).
