Wayne does move pretty quickly from one hat to another...

I was looking at the Shadesmar map, and I realized that we don't know much about it. Here are a few questions: 1: Who mapped the place originally? 2: Are the names just for naming sake or do they have a meaning? 3: It's the shape of Roshar, so I'm guessing this is just on Roshar. But, where do the expanses lead? 4: What is a nexus or an expanse?

That probably has something to do with the fact that Ruin and Preservation are complete opposites, and so if one didn't get involved the other would. Honor and Cultivation are different, but agree somewhat. As a result, it was more of a 2 vs 1 situation so less happened. Honor and cultivation knew that if they weren't involved it would be okay because the other could do something, and Odium knew that he couldn't get much done (until that whole Honor shattering thing). And now, Cultivation is probably devistated because she loved honor, so that's why she's not doing anything.

Maybe the lichen becomes water, and because of the power released the sand goes elsewhere?

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Farnsworth replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you have a recurring dream about asking Sanderson about the. Nightwatcher and getting RAFOED. -
I don't know much about Brandon, but I very much doubt he is 81. Jordan probably would be if he were still around.

If Adonalsium was reasonably evenly matched with this God Beyond/enemy then I don't think there would be any other way to fight with it without Adonalsium. I just don't know where you could get that kind of power.

Sanderson is the answer to everything
Farnsworth replied to king of nowhere's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Read, and then it doesn't matter. While reading you enter a world of beings superior to actual humans, and if they existed, they would of course trust you so it doesn't matter that the real world humans don't trust you. Read, and nothing can touch you. Nothing can hurt you. Even lack of trust. Problem: I'm bad at chess. -
is the wheel of time worth reading
Farnsworth replied to manukos's topic in General Brandon Discussion
The world-building is way sub-Brandon, but there are other things than world building in a book. Hemalurgic Headshot is right in that there is romance that gets in the way of the plot, but otherwise it is quite good. And the end two chapters are always fantastic! -
Just wondering - which books are going to be made leather bound?

Sanderson is the answer to everything
Farnsworth replied to king of nowhere's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Problem: USA politics -
We have seen from Harmony that it's possible for one vessel to hold multiple shards. We've also generally assumed that splintering a shard is bad. We haven't really seen a specific "goal" of the Cosmere yet. I was wondering if maybe a single person (perhaps Hoid?) would ever combine all of Adonalsium? Then they could perhaps compete with the God Beyond.

Wait — Nightblood isn't Nightblood's real name? What do you mean? What's wrong with Nightblood? I guess Nazh wasn't enough for old Prudence Nazrilof, so it could be the same with Nightblood.

I always thought that Amians were immortal, since they could change their bodies and therefore not age. So, they can be killed but are functionally immortal like Frost. Usually, when a fantasy creature is functionally immortal they have few kids. Kinds of like Lord of the Rings elves, or Song of Ice and Fire children of the forest. I would guess that there are very few, since they have gone through a genocide and many were killed. I would guess there are nine or ten.

Anybody know why Szeth refers to Nightblood as "Sword-Nimi?" My original theory was that it was some Shin word, but doesn't Szeth speak Alethi?

Why do people quote the h entire post before them? Isn't it obvious that that's the post they are referring to?

The Ones Above are the Scadriali people.
Farnsworth replied to MacAran's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think the Ones Above could possibly have a machine that kills people as a side effect. I think it's more likely that there is something in the metabolism of people from First of the Sun that makes it kill them. Maybe since they live on a though detecting world they have an odd reaction to emotional allomancy?- 21 replies

The Ones Above are the Scadriali people.
Farnsworth replied to MacAran's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Another reason why it's Scadrial: the machine essentially is a brass-burning device! Do we know of any other type of investiture (besides the sort on First of the Sun) that detects thoughts? They just found some way to burn bronze and let a computer do it instead of a person. Then they found a way to detect whatever it was the birds were doing. It's different from what we've seen bronze do before, but it's less of a stretch than the Surges somehow doing it.- 21 replies

Stick definitely has strong identity but I don't think it's Ferchemal. More likely it's some Roshian ability we don't know about yet. I mean, it's from a Rosharian tree!

Testing Mistborn Chess
Farnsworth replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm on the chess team, so I'll try this out today if anyone on the team is interested! -
Maybe you're right, I just like to hope that there is some secret meaning behind it. I really want to know! I guess I should stop looking angrily at the RAFO page and just read the book. I'm way overdue for a Final Empire re-read!

When I ordered my leatherbound Mistborn (just came today) I asked Brandon whether Aagal Uch and Aagal Nod — the two gas giants in the Scadrian system — ever came into the story. He RAFOed it. How can you RAFO a question like that? It makes no sense. RAFOing can imply that something interesting is going on with what you are asking about. But if something interesting is going on with the planets, that would mean that the planets do come into the story. So why didn't he just say yes? Do they only partially come into the story? Does he not want people to focus on it? Is he unsure of the answer? If the answer had been "no", he would probably have just said no. So I think the RAFO means a yes. But if that's what he meant, then why didn't he say it? I don't get it!

Oathbringer's First Draft is Complete
Farnsworth commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
The Hobbit and the Silmarillion are written by Tolkien and take place in the same world as Lord of the Rings, but are not the same book. -
theory Hoid is very upset about something
Farnsworth replied to Farnsworth's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hoid jumping down the stomach of a Greatshell — yet another demonstration of how disturbed and upset he is!
