  1. Harmony can manifest Atium and Lerasium if he wanted though, and Mists vary between Preservation and Ruin. That’s where I’m leaning toward 17, because there are 17 Godmetals now.
  2. Harmony would drop Harmony. And Harmonium isn’t an alloy of Atium and Lerasium, but something different. So I’d think Harmony’s tone would be more than a simple blend of the two, but contain elements of both.
  3. As Ollivander offered wands to Silk, his magical tape measure began measuring Kelsier, then David. ”Curious.” The old man noted. “You aren’t quite alive, are you?” Kelsier smirked, hazel eye cold. “Alive enough, old man.” Ollivander nodded. “Oh, certainly that. But the wand... hmm...” He trailed off, returning his attention to Silk.
  4. Eryn nodded. “Not so easy remove spike. Good we have this,” she raised the one in her hand, “but need make metalmind first. He is free now, so we keep with us.”
  5. I wasn’t comparing them. Honorless mentioned the possibility of RL examples, so I thought I’d provide one. The Holocaust was. Genocide always is. And, as usual, the world is pretending it’s not happening because it doesn’t concern them. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s one of every genocide in the 20th century. Guess how many the people proclaiming ‘Never Again’ bothered to stop? It seems I need to add another now. Possibly two. And, once again, the world does nothing. So there’s a great example of people choosing NOT to act to stop evil because of their distaste for war. Sanctions and recriminations have yet to prevent genocide.
  6. Would there be fifteen now? Or 17? Because we should have a pure tone of Harmony.
  7. I can give you a RL situation. My husband’s grandmother was an infant during the Holocaust. Her mother was part of a group fleeing and they wanted to leave the baby behind so her cries couldn’t give them away. She promised them that if the baby began crying she would kill her and they agreed to let her take the infant. She stuffed a pair of socks in the baby’s mouth and they ran. Miraculously, the baby never cried through all the hours they ran. But if she had, my husband’s great-grandmother would have snapped her neck to save everyone else. So there’s your RL situation of a necessary act of evil. A part of the Holocaust you don’t hear of often. There were infants and young children murdered by their parents in bunkers or forests because their cries would have given away everyone else and then they would all have died. Can you really tell me there was a right choice?
  8. Eryn nodded. “May. Done well.”
  9. Epic, but not AN Epic. TPBM likes comics.
  10. Charismatic.
  11. Indications are that they need something from Roshar to solve the Connection problem - something to with BAM or her gemstone. And that it’s Thaidakar’s problem they’re really there to solve.
  12. Very possibly. He should be able to channel it though, even if not into himself. I was thinking more that if he could capture Mist, he could use that to solve the Connection problem with Investiture. Even if he ends up selling Storm/Voidlight, he could do all the experiments at home under his direct supervision. Why do it on Roshar? Is Roshar the key to the Connection issue? More accurately, does Thaidakar think it is?
  13. The Lovers: Who else but the Imperial Pair would suit this card? The Lovers is a name used in our world and Scadrial’s, unlike some other cards. And yes, it represents love. On our cards the Lovers are usually... less than dressed, shall we say? Scadrial’s version keeps them clothed. The upright Lovers represent Love, Harmony, and Unity. Reversed it represents self-love, discord, and imbalance. Going back four years, the only specific symbol I can recall is Harmony’s. Obviously, it represents Harmony and Union. The silver on Vin’s dress represents the Mists, and she gazes upward toward the divine which she has been. Around his neck Elend wears the Survivor’s Spear. Elend’s green book symbolized something, but unfortunately I no longer remember what it was. If I recall, I’ll edit. On Scadrial this card typically showed a noble couple, generally nude. The oldest version of tarot cards featuring the Imperial pair date to the latter part of the Siege of Luthadel. The decision to keep the pair clothed was likely influenced by Elend and Vin being alive. Much of the more overt sexual imagery was removed at the time as well. It is also worth noting that the Skaa were far more concerned with modesty and marriage than their noble counterparts. In part this was a reaction to the noble lifestyle, which could be rather licentious. In other respects it was a natural outgrowth of the frequent rapes and murders of Skaa women. Modesty was a survival mechanism that became part of their emerging culture. Recovered ancient Skaa decks reveal that the Lovers were often clothed and the sexual imagery tended to be subdued - if included at all. However, this practice did not achieve widespread acceptance until the Imperial Pair became associated with this card.
  14. “Part of the process,” Ollivander responded, tugging boxes off the shelves. After another minute he snapped his fingers, the tape measure returning to his hand. ”We’ll start with this,” he said cheerfully. “Willow and Phoenix feather, 12”, swishy. Give it a try.” He offered up the wand.
  15. It really makes you wonder why Thaidakar is going so far afield to find free-standing Investiture. Wouldn’t it be easier to work on his own planet?
  16. New Card: Harmony (Temperance) Interestingly, this card had this name prior to Harmony’s Ascension. Unsurprisingly, Harmony himself ended up adorning it. This card represents Balance.
  17. From what we’ve seen, most of the Windrunner Spren at this particular point in time have similar opinions. Also, Brandon has said the Windrunners wouldn’t be okay with Adolin killing Sadeas, which is a similar situation. So indications are that this would work at present.
  18. Actually, that’s correct for Straff. Northern Dominance had a more Germanic accent. West and Central had French ones. However, the Alethi speak a Semitic language. English doesn’t even have all the correct vowel sounds!
  19. Radiants actually have one BIG weakness - their oaths. Someone on Reddit asked who would win between Kelsier and Kaladin. My answer was that Kelsier would - because he refuses to fight. If he’s not fighting, then Kaladin can’t hurt him because of his oaths. So he just sits around until Kal has to go somewhere else... or dies of old age, which isn’t a concern for Kell. (I then wrote up the match, wherein Kell points out that HE won’t be needed for 70 or so years, minus a cameo in TLM, which takes place several years after KOWT. Kal will be needed in SA5, so he needs to leave before Kelsier does. Basically, his cage match with Moiraine, but with an opponent who isn’t nearly as good at manipulation.) Consider that. An army that can be defeated by refusing to engage. Not surrendering; just a refusal to fight. Skybreakers? Figure out what code they follow, then use it against them. That’s the two orders most tricky for Mistborn taken out of the picture. With the exception of Lightweavers, the other Orders likely have similar weaknesses. Obviously, you need a sharp mind to manipulate those weaknesses, but if you can you can win. Or, at least, stalemate.
  20. I’d disagree. I think Willshapers start out selfish and their oaths push them to become selfless. Lightweavers by concealing parts of themselves and their Truths push them toward self awareness. Kelsier is surprisingly self aware. I think being a Lightweaver would be an easier path (though not easy) for him to walk. Willshaper would be harder because selflessness isn’t something Kelsier is great at. But it would make him a better man. Lightweaver is more suited to his actions. A conman, a guile hero, an assassin, a thief. Willshaper is better suited to who he is: a fiercely driven man, a survivor, deeply autonomous, who is resolute in his goals. But if he has the opportunity to bond a Spren, I think it will be a Cryptic. His inherent paradox - a bad man who wants to do good - would make him very interesting to them. A Cryptic wouldn’t make him a better man though. It would make him more aware of his own failings, but Kelsier tends to embrace those and turn them to strengths. “Let then see my weakness and let them see me overcome it.” Still, it would be cool to see him as a Radiant. Or as a Radiant Spren, lol! Or both! (I wonder if that would work...)
  21. Eryn shook her head. “Gold standard. Pewter special, so I can fight. Does not give allomancy often. Thought maybe dangerous here, ja? Was right, too. “Aluminum for... other reasons. But can use to make open metalmind.” It was for making open Copperminds so the Sovereign could see her memories, but she wasn’t sharing that. She also had the usual ones, but those weren’t important. “Three spike only. Then need lynchpin. Easier switch, if can.” If that wasn’t possible Eryn would have to give him her goldmind. That would mean transferring the health stored to another metalmind, then creating an identity-less one in the gold and nicrosil one. Doable, but annoying.
  22. The problem is that text overrides WoB. If Marsh says in-text he snapped young then that remains canon. New thought: if the brothers were adopted young they could have had two sets of parents.
  23. Eryn shook her head. “Position wrong. Will need gold with no identity. Can make later, but take time.” She frowned, adding. “Three spike. Need know what kind. Can maybe switch one for this,” she hefted the charged spike in her hand. “Has gold.”
  24. Kelsier sighed, raising his head, smiling sadly. “The past isn’t that easy to lock away, Breeze. It shapes us, changes us. Makes us who we are.” He shook his head, smile taking on a sardonic edge. “Try to think before you speak next time, alright? And no more lying to me,” he added, glaring. “I get why you did it at the beginning - I doubt I’d have taken it well - but later...”
  25. I have PMDD. So I’m depressed one week out of every four.
