  1. Yes. Of course solving that problem would also solve Thaidakar’s, which has not been solved by BoM. It likely also wouldn’t free the Bondsmiths. For everyone else, you’d need to convince the Spren to play along. And you’d still have to deal with Kelsier being Fullborn and his ability to give other people those abilities. It takes time to get an army together; he could probably arrange a fairly decent defense during that time by reclaiming his Southern throne. And he’d also have the GBs running sabotage with Raysium knives and anti-light the entire time.
  2. The problem is that Radiants can’t leave Roshar. So that eliminates them as a potential threat for now.
  3. “Need make goldmind,” Eryn noted. “And prepare place for Zola. Have nothing more do here.”
  4. Oh, I could see them getting together. It requires Dalinar to be out of the picture, obviously, or nothing goes anywhere beyond mutual attraction. And they would need to deal with the whole “Kelsier tried to have Jasnah assassinated’ thing. Assuming those two things I can see them falling in love while going full innovation mode on fabrial technology. That isn’t where anything happens though. That’s just where we get massive sexual tension build up. Where things happen is when Navani gets to see Kelsier being vulnerable in a way she can relate to. (My general thought is that she finds him grieving Vin, after Kell realizes he can’t get back to Scadrial for the anniversary of her death - which he almost missed due to the different calendars.) From that point on he’d be kind-of courting her and she’d be accepting. At a certain point they’d need to determine how far they want things to go which could end up in multiple places. It would be a very slow build before they get anywhere near that point. But they would compliment each other very well.
  5. The question, if I’m understanding correctly, is that Jasnah did not see the Spren who IS the Soulcaster. And I have no idea why. Maybe she didn’t realize what she was looking at?
  6. Because the process for creating had yet to be invented. More accurately, the Fused were unaware of the process that had been invented as that process has seemingly been lost. Navani reinvented the process, leading to the Fused gaining access to anti-light.
  7. I keep thinking that Kelsier is on a redemption arc we didn’t see the start of. That is, he was basically a villain (or on the edge of it) and we’ve only seen him since he started going the other way - toward being a hero. And that’s where certain parts of his story feel ‘wrong’ - because we haven’t seen the beginning, so we don’t realize the tale for the redemption narrative it is.
  8. No, to both of you. TPBM has actually seen the arch on Utah’s license plate.
  9. Each is on a different continent. So I’ve been to three continents. The US is in N. America, Britain is in Europe, and Israel is in Asia.
  10. I actually see Thaidakar getting on better with Jasnah’s mother. Navani is attracted to dangerous people: Gavilar, Dalinar, Raboniel. She also loves learning and discovering and she struggles with her self worth. Kelsier is a dangerous man and I suspect he’d like women strong enough to tell him off. Someone who won’t passively take his rust. And he loves searching out secrets and innovating. He’s also very good at bringing out the best in people around him. They’ve also both lost children. I can easily see these two finding a lot of things to genuinely care about in the other. They’d also compliment each other well; Kelsier can lead, but he can’t administrate. Navani is an excellent administrator, but leadership isn’t something that comes naturally to her. I headcannon Kelsier falls low-key in love with Navani after she kicks him and Hoid out of a meeting where they’re being idiots. Navani starts reevaluating Thaidakar after she finds him grieving his daughter (Vin). And they bond over fabrials after Thaidakar revolutionizes the science by introducing Roshar to the concept of alloys. Of course, this does lead to the rather amusing possibility of Kelsier being Hoid’s stepfather-in-law...
  11. He’s already been a king... and been mistaken for TLR. There are a lot of fundamental differences between them though. For one thing, Kelsier is far more dangerous! But being more serious... No. Not beyond the superficial. Kelsier has no interest in ruling. It bores him. He ruled an entire continent, then gave it up when it no longer needed him. In fact, there are hints that he fundamentally disagrees with Saze on the level of involvement Harmony has in the Basin. Despite having two halves of the planet predominantly loyal to him, Kelsier has kept his manipulation to the shadows since he left the South. The people may worship him (at least in the North; TBD on the South), but he doesn’t appear to involve himself in those beliefs. Rashek kept himself on the throne. He wiped out all faiths that didn’t worship him. He actively involved himself in the religion and society. He kept the world from developing and he did so openly. In this his actions are opposed to Kelsier’s. Rashek was Cosmere aware and he spent 1000 years doing nothing with that knowledge. Kelsier, from the beginning, has sought to learn more. Rashek wanted stagnation; Kelsier wants progression. Rashek wanted to rule; Kelsier wants to KNOW. They both sought power, but the power Kelsier seeks is very different than Rashek’s. Where they DO align is likely in the belief that they are helping Scadrial. Kelsier may want Scadrial to become the Cosmere’s Portugal; Rashek wanted to protect them from Ruin. Kelsier has allies. Friends. And he isn’t afraid of being called out. He’s willing to acknowledge mistakes and weaknesses. I think a big difference between the two is illustrated when Kelsier is trying to set himself up as a spiritual figure and thinks “Let them see my weakness and let them see me overcome it” versus Rashek later on going, “I have not made a mistake. God does not make mistakes.” Kelsier’s core Ghostbloods are probably very similar to the Crew, based on the Shardcast episode with Brandon. It’s only as the group grows beyond him, beyond his ability to coral, that things change. Being stuck on Scadrial doesn’t help, and neither do Kelsier’s poor administrative skills. Rashek turned his friends into Kandra. His closest allies were the Inquisitors he could control. Kelsier intentionally created a group of individuals who do not have to do as they are told. He prizes that. He wants his people to take initiative. That’s NOTHING like how Rashek works. Kelsier also seems to have come around on the nobility. He seems perfectly fine with recruiting nobles these days. Rashek never really got over his pettiness. Rashek was a force of stability and stagnation. Kelsier is a force of change and innovation. Despite surface similarities, like Ruin and Preservation, they couldn’t be more opposed. (And yes, Kelsier is definitely Ruin in this comparison.)
  12. Nope. I have been to: US (born there), Canada, Israel, France, Britain, and Italy. My youngest sister has been to even more places (Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Hong Kong and China) and I’m quite jealous. I want to go! Thre continents, btw: US - North America, Britain - Europe, Israel - Asia. My family likes to travel, lol! TPBM has seen the Mittens somewhere (including on postcards or in movies) and knows what they are.
  13. I think you mean Cadmium.
  14. No, I have no idea what the acronym means. TPBM has been to three continents and has family on all of them.
  15. They mention that Hoid told them. And there are hints that Shallan’s necklace was of Scadrian origin.
  16. Cognitive Shadows are similar to Spren in some ways, but they aren’t Spren. A Spren is a splinter, a piece of Investiture become sapient. They are self-sustaining, as Investiture can only be altered, not destroyed. So being in a gem doesn’t kill them. Shadows are Sapient minds or imprints of sapient minds granted an infusion of Investiture anchoring them to existence. Sever the chain and they go to the Beyond. The question for me are Slivers. See, I think Slivers are sapient minds that have become Investiture. More so than Shadows then, Slivers would be Spren. A piece of sapient Investiture. We know that Slivers can persist indefinitely without external Investiture infusion, just as Spren do. And the terms Sliver and Splinter are fairly synonymous. If I’m right, a Sliver could survive in a gemstone. But I doubt Thaidakar is desperate enough to accept the risk just yet.
  17. Kelsier glanced over at his friends. Seeing no objections, he nodded. “Sounds good. Let’s go.” He headed over to the door, holding it open for blonde woman as she entered. The woman raised a brow. “I see not all young men are entirely mannerless. My thanks; it’s good to see proper behavior from today’s youth.” Kelsier smiled coyly. “You’re welcome,” he said, then exited the musty shop.
  18. There are people who never had pizza?! Oh, those poor souls... TPBM has had pizza in Italy.
  19. I’m not actually allowed to kill. The contract forbids it. You’ll have to kill the child first. ...And since when do I have human friends anyway? And it just occurred to me that Harmony got rid of Contracts... WTWTTSWY grab a knife and murder your evil ex-master?
  20. “Try this,” Ollivander said, abruptly reappearing behind the twins. “Fir and Thestral tailhair. 16”. Powerful and unyielding.” Kelsier nodded, accepting the wand. He swept it in a wide arc, mist bursting from the tip. Ollivander smiled happily. “Very good, very good.” He took the wand back, carefully wrapping it. “Thestral hair makes powerful wands, but they’re notoriously unstable which is why I rarely use it. Be mindful of that.” Kelsier laughed as he took the box. “Well, I’m hardly the most stable person myself. I’ll think we’ll get on fine.” Ollivander shook his head, seemingly bemused. “Go on then. You’ve more shopping to do no doubt and I have other customers arriving.” He nodded towards the street where a tall, elegant, blonde woman was approaching the shop.
  21. “Why,” Kelsier said lightly, “didn’t you know? We’re all but words on a page, given life by imagination. Characters in tales waiting to be written. Isn’t that life? A story being told.”
  22. Never done either, but I like snow tubing... TPBM thinks the best snows come in early spring.
