Eryn smiled, humming as she fluffed the pillows and turned down the duvet.

“Chocolate cream,” Eryn explained. “Put in truffles. Sovereign likes.”

“Powder for milk. Make sweeter.”

Kelsier laughed. “Careful, kid.” He whirled about dropping Zola lightly on the bed. Eryn shook her head, removing a mug and some chocolate powder from her pack. “You suggest hot drink; you get.” ”Fair,” the Sovereign acknowledged, taking the mug. “I’ll be back in a bit.” Eryn nodded, then turned to Zola. “Take off dress now. Will sleep in shift. Tomorrow we buy new clothes.”

“Should be.” He bent forward slightly as they entered the room, Zola’s head just clearing the lintel. “Made it!”

Kelsier grinned up at her. “I am, a bit. Saze - Harmony - is taller though. So is my brother, but not by very much. I think becoming an Inquisitor made him taller.” They reached the platform, and Eryn headed toward their room. ”Duck down,” the Sovereign warned. “The doorway is lower than the hall.”

The Survivor laughed, following Eryn up the stairs.

“I’d tell you, but then your mother wouldn’t give me chocolate anymore,” the Sovereign said, laughing as he scooped the eight year old into his arms and onto his shoulders. “Want a ride?” ”Already giving her one,” Eryn noted with amusement, heading toward the stairs.

“Take more than five minutes to prepare,” Eryn noted. “Must go to room, take off dress.” “And you’ll want a hot drink, a story, a lullaby...” Kelsier trailed off, smirking, as Eryn glowered at him. “It’ll take awhile.”

“I agree.” Kelsier smiled warmly at the girl. “Now, I think Ganache mentioned something about a bed?” Eryn nodded. “Is late for child,” she said. “Time to sleep.”

If you ascribe to “Cognitive Shadows are the original soul” then perma-killing one is literally the same thing - and indications are that the soul of one does go Beyond. Here’s a fun question: if a CS is a copy, does it develop its own soul? Because Kell definitely felt something pulling him Beyond at certain points even after he became a Shadow, which implies to me that he has one. (I say his original, though otherw would disagree.)

“Hello, Zola. Sel is a lot like here, but different. I like being with Kell.” ”Seons like to be with people,” Kelsier explained. Eryn nodded. “Like to serve.” ”That they do,” the Sovereign agreed. “Ene, keep an eye out. Let me know if you see anything strange.” ”Yes, Kell,” the Seon agreed, soaring back out the window.

“She’s a Seon,” Kelsier explained. “She comes from Sel, like Adilie’s grandparents. But she lives here now, with me.” ”I’m Ene,” the Seon introduced herself. Eryn inclined her head in greeting. “Hello again Ene.” It has been a long while since she last saw the Sovereign’s Seon.

A small, glowing ball of light with an angular symbol at its core flew through a nearby window. “Hello,” it said.

Kelsier led the three to a secluded area near the back of the inn. “Here should be fine,” he decided. “Ene!”

He laughed, catching her hand before she could remove it, and began leading her from the mess, Eryn following.

Kelsier smiled, extending his gloved hand to Zola. “This way. I can’t bring her out here; people would notice.”

Kelsier smiled. “A good friend. One could say she’s the very spirit of Devotion.” Behind her mask, Eryn rolled her eyes.

“Among other places,” Kelsier agreed. Then he stood up. “Come on, Zola. I’ll introduce you to Ene.” Eryn stood as well, following.

“Interesting,” he said thoughtfully. “Shadows aren’t common there. Nor are Spren, unless you’re counting Seons and Skaze.” He laughed suddenly. “Good on your grandparents getting off; Sel isn’t an easy place to travel from.” He turned to Zola, his smile softening to something more genuine. “Her grandparents come from another planet, Sel. Would you like to see something from there?” Eryn sighed. “Getting late,” she warned. “Zola will need bed soon.” ”Don’t worry.” The Sovereign waved a lazy hand. “I won’t keep her up too late.” @Condensation

“Threnodite?” He asked thoughtfully. “Or Rosharan? Though you’re short for the latter. Higher gravity could do that though.”

“No,” Kelsier said simply. “I’m myself. My soul was tethered by the Well of Ascension, then altered when I held Preservation so I can persist for as long as I choose.” He smirked. “Though there are other theories, which I don’t ascribe to. Unlike some I actually remember the process.” His eye narrowed and his smile grew dangerous again. “But care to explain how you came to know of those theories - or of Spren? We don’t exactly have those on Scadrial.”

I’d like to point out that Kelsier spent an entire book ‘not thinking’ about his plan to die. So Sigzil could easily have just been focused on getting his paperwork right and ‘not thinking’ about Hoid or the GBs.
