Kelsier frowned thoughtfully. “Limited empathy has its downsides, Sage,” he said at last. “And it doesn’t stop you from feeling grief or guilt or rejection. It just makes you more resilient to them. ”And it makes it much easier to hate in some ways because it makes it harder to see people as people. It does make some things easier, but it also means you’ll never understand love the way you do. You wouldn’t experience the strength of Connection you have. ”And you didn’t break. You reacted the way most people do. You said you reacted by ‘acting like a psychopath.’ You didn’t. Psychopaths have limited empathy. They don’t Connect the same way, so they wouldn’t react like you did.” His lips twitched upward in wry amusement. “I should know; I am one.”

Then we are definitely going to be on opposing teams. If we’re on the same team we’ll be too busy trying to murder each other to rap.- 2784 replies

Kelsier laughed, the sound mixing oddly with the screams of the dying. “As someone who has been a god,” he said, grinning brightly at Sage, “I can assure you that religion is definitely illogical.” His mirth faded some, and his voice softened. “But then, that’s why they call it Faith, not Logic.” He gazed upward at the stars, visible in a way they hadn’t been throughout the entirety of his mortal life. “Hope isn’t logical either. Neither is trying to take down a thousand year emperor and its god-king. Or trying to bring back blue skies and flowers. Logic told us we couldn’t defeat Ruin, either. Hope... Faith... Turns out those can be stronger than logic, sometimes. ”Belief is a choice, Sage,” he continued, gazing seriously at her. “So is hope. Logically, the Final Empire should never have fallen. I put my hope in the faith of people and put my faith in the hands of my crew. And the Final Empire fell. ”Hope and faith defy logic. Maybe that’s why they can allow us to do the impossible.” He smiled, meeting Sage’s eyes, allowing her to see the echo of eternity that hid in his real one, a remnant of his time as a Shard. “You don’t need to believe Sage. But don’t denigrate those who do.”

Things Hoid is not allowed to do in the Cosmere
Kingsdaughter613 replied to jamesbondsmith's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We don’t actually know that... and Kelsier is Fullborn (probably), so his attempts to beat you up will likely cause large scale damage. -
“Saze is a Terrisman,” Kelsier noted, “but he killed people when he had to.” Well, Koloss. “The Synod didn’t think much of him either, but he was instrumental in bringing down the Final Empire - and then saved the world during his Ascension. “So, speaking from personal experience, the Synod is far too uptight and sanctimonious for its own good. They’re so concerned with their own personal ‘peace’ and ‘morality’ that they’d let the world collapse around their ears before raising a hand to help.” He smiled, his voice wry. “I wouldn’t be too bothered by what they think, were I you. If we’d had it their way, we’d still be living in the Final Empire.”

Things Hoid is not allowed to do in the Cosmere
Kingsdaughter613 replied to jamesbondsmith's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Tell Sazed. Then he won’t be nice and welcoming to you anymore. He’s not exactly going to thrilled about violations to rule 40. He also doesn’t appreciate it when you and Kell try to beat each other up as Fullborn vs. Mistborn tends to cause significant environmental damage even before off-world Investiture gets involved. -

He chuckled again. “That... makes sense I suppose. You are a scholar. If it makes you feel better, I’m pretty sure some Keepers did have the different methods of killing as their primary scholastic focus. ”Recognizing someone’s skill isn’t the same as wanting to be that person. And wanting to know how something is done isn’t the same as wanting to do it. There’s no harm in being curious or fascinated. Part of it is probably how you’re mind deals with the situation and the rest is the scholar in you. It’s not something to be afraid of Sage; it’s part of you and that’s something to embrace.”

The Survivor paused, the settled himself down beside her. “You know, it’s normal to be queasy the first few times you’re on a battlefield,” he told her gently. “Most people are. And that’s fine; we can’t all be ruthless killers.” He chuckled softly. “Probably a good thing we aren’t.”

Blood poured from Meens carotid staining the ground a vivid red. Kelsier watched until the light went out in the dead man’s eyes. Good. The Survivor pushed open the flap on the tent, smiling down at Ladashwi. “You doing okay, Sage?” @Random Bystander

Kelsier smiled. “Thank you.” Then he began gently pushing and pulling to remove the Coppermind. Most Allomancers wouldn’t even be able feel the metalmind. Even fewer could manipulate the latch as he did. But Kelsier was never an ordinary Mistborn, even before he had been suffused with Preservation’s raw essence. Iron and steel had always been his metals. Even more so now that he saw half the world in lines of blue. The Coppermind flew across the tent into his waiting hand. Then he stood up and released Meens. He waited just a moment, allowing the other man to process his freedom. Then Kelsier slit his throat.

Mistborn Tarot: Spoilers for all books (Discuss)
Kingsdaughter613 replied to Kingsdaughter613's topic in Mistborn
Mistborn Tarot: Sacrifice The Sacrifice card represents Surrender, Letting Go and New Perspectives. This card was formerly known as The Execution and some still utilize the name. The card depicts the Last Emperor gazing into the future as he allows Ironeyes to kill him, knowing his death is necessary for that future to be. For this reason he hangs loose. Close inspection of the card will reveal that Lord Elend is not suspended by any visible force, further evidence that his impending death is entirely his choice; a sacrifice for all of Scadrial. The visions Elend gazes upon show the clash between Ruin and Preservation, Harmony healing the world, Harmony’s Ascension, and the newly healed Scadrial. Elend’s face is turned toward the last image, the yellow sun rising over fields of marewill. This is reflective of The Last Emperor card, which depicts Lord Elend against the sun, hovering over a field of Marewill. This card has an interesting history for me. It was the last card I began four years ago. I drew Marsh and Elend, inked them, and stopped. When I restarted the deck, I completed this card by designing the “windows” of the future Elend is looking on. The Sun thing was a coincidence, btw. I hadn’t designed that card when I drew that Window. Elend looking at was a fortuitous accident. -

Crafty makes a Mistborn board game. Mistborn House War and its expansion, The Siege of Luthadel. I haven’t played the expansion yet (it only just arrived yesterday) but the original game is a lot of fun. The rules are a bit complicated, but not bad once you get used to them. Basically, you have to solve problems with resources. You get resources depending on which House card you start with. You get Prestige points for solving problems and disgrace points for various reasons. You create alliances with other players to solve problems. If the game ends with less than 8 unrest or by solving the Vin problem, the Final Empire survives and the player with the most prestige points wins. If unrest goes over 8 the Final Empire collapses and the player with the least Prestige wins. We play it with my son, which is why he knows who Kell and Vin are. My husband and I have an ongoing alliance to bring down the Final Empire which we have successfully done every game so far. My son has been getting rather annoyed about it (he’s seven and has not read TFE.) Siege of Luthadel has you playing to attack or defend the city, so my son should be happy. I’m planning to play defense. TPBM now wants to get this game. -
Mistborn Tarot (Critique and Discuss)

Noble of Spears: The Noble of Spears features Ironeyes, brother of the Survivor. The Scadrian symbol of death, this card represents Unbiased Judgement, Direct Communication, and Boundaries. Notably, the upper right symbol is Mah for Marsh, Ironeyes’ rarely used true name. -

Nope. No pets yet... TPBM has played Mistborn House War and has successfully brought down the Final Empire every time. (What do you mean that’s not how you play?!) -

Yes, I have. Also, I’m a girl and Kelsier can’t visit Sel. I do like playing him though - he’s fun! TPBM wants my Kelsier Mistbear: -
Within SA we knew: Thaidakar is a title. Thaidakar is an offworlder. Master Thaidakar follows a Scadrian honorific-epithet naming convention Hoid calls Thaidakar ‘Lord of Scars.’ Hoid has ‘slapped around’ Thaidakar. Thaidakar is a Cognitive Shadow. The chapters leading to the first meeting between Shallan and Mraize in WoR were: Scars, Mere Vapors, and Ghostbloods. Scadrial is the Expanse of Vapors. The Ghostbloods resembled the Mistborn crew in some respects. Some Ghostbloods have an almost religious like reverence toward Thaidakar. We also knew: Kelsier would lead the GBs in a heartbeat. Ghostblood referenced specific in-world events. We had seen the proto-Ghostbloods. Then Brandon told us: He expected many of us to know Thaidakar’s real name. Thaidakar had been seen going to great lengths in other books. And then Brandon went on the Shardcast and confirmed: Thaidakar is Kelsier and this was always the plan. The GBs are supposed to dovetail with Survivorism. And Kell is lying through his teeth about the Avatar thing. So yes, we know.

Dark side? I joined the crew in its initial iteration. And I’m perfectly happy remaining a part. Yes, I have. You can see it here: TPBM has commented on the above thread. By which I mean, you will go look and comment now, right? -
Wait... Seriously?! It was a totally random guess! Um... This planet has Cognitive Shadow(s).

You can utilize the techniques without developing psychology. I basically created them for myself when I was a teenager. Helped me get through a lot of puberty. Then I went to college and discovered that forcing your brain to think positive is an actual thing. Who knew? Well, I AM a member of the Ghostbloods... TPBM is also a member. -
Bands of Mourning vs other types of investiture
Kingsdaughter613 replied to zpo73's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The Nicrosil part goes back. He doesn’t retain the allomsntic or Feruchemical abilities. The attribute stores are gone though. That’s why Marasi no longer can tap speed or iron. And why the Southerners need to swap out metal minds. Something automatically is causing the ability to utilize those abilities to return to the Nicrosil.
