absolutely not, it was okay for Booknewt and KSauce, but not for you /j it's possible to play a game without always being there at rollover, not so much to host one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah that's fine by me, a lot of the things that were said to Booknewt apply to you as well I think if you're around most days then I wouldn't stress much about missing one, especially early in the game The heads up is nice though, thanks!

heck yeah! haven't started yet, still roughly 2 days until launch I'll add your name to the Player List it's not too late, welcome aboard That's alright with me! Like Araris said, you might be playing some catch-up but that's totally fine if you're fine with it, and I think the advance warning is appreciated My two cents is also that "catching up" doesn't have to mean back-reading everything that happened while you were away (idk, that works well for some people, but not everyone). I almost never do that, and it always feelsbad to me when I see someone else trying so hard to read everything when they have limited time. Personally, I like to just jump right into things and assume if there's anything really important someone will just tell me. Sometimes I get around to reading eventually but I give myself permission to play and enjoy the game in the meantime we're a pretty chill crowd here, or we try to be anyways. And as a Quick Fix this is meant to be a pretty low-stakes game. I wouldn't sweat it too much honestly

gosh Fura!! It's good to see you rules answers: 1. y'know the rules don't say, but I'm gonna decide right here and now that they are taken out of getting picked during the reroll, thank you for asking that 2. you may indeed designate someone not in the doc as a successor, it's just more risky. They will be automatically added to the doc when they become Spymaster yeah, the doc is basically an extension of the Spymaster role. 3. I should make that clearer. I think they have to lock in which ability they want the following turn, but then they don't have to spend it right away, it lasts until used. 4. Naming a successor doesn't count as an action. I'll also say that neither does sending an anonymous message. (Submitting a kill target does count as an attempted action, though, regardless of whether your target is the one that gets picked.) 5. I suppose a major role can be targeted by Tech, and can therefore possess items, so to be consistent, they get to keep the item in this case. Also, this game does not have any overarching action limit: if you have multiple different abilities, you can use all of them at the same time. These are very good questions

gosh after I tried so hard to get them all It's anonymous mail you send to other players via the GM. So, for example, you might message me "send 'hello' to Booknewt and Doc12." Then at the beginning of the next day, I would tell both Booknewt and Doc12 seperately that they got an unsigned message saying "hello." ("Hello" is just a short example message, but there's absolutely no limit on message length ) Rebels can have them too. I haven't finalized anything, but the odds are decent that everyone who doesn't have a major role will get a minor one. In terms of setting and story, every player officially works for the ISB, it's just that some members of the ISB are sympathetic to the rebellion and are working from within to sabotage it [the ISB]. It will be hidden from the vote counts. This does mean that if I announce the execution victim and it's different from who got the most votes, then the Analysis ability definitely meddled. or I made a blunder as the GM but hopefully that won't happen Good questions!

Go watch Andor! it's surprisingly good. /biased The game will be like the signups. It's meant to reference things in the show, not rehash or explain what happened. There may be small spoilers, and viewer discretion is thusly advised, but I won't be following the actual main plot of the show in my writeups. I'm mainly just borrowing elements of the setting, which are established pretty early on. And possibly leaving some easter eggs here and there. Also, Andor is a prequel to Rogue One, which is itself a prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy. This makes it different from some shows, because the ending is deliberately not a secret, you know it from the outset (*if you've seen Rogue One anyways, but I think it would certainly be quite odd if they made the show only for people who hadn't). The fun is in seeing how you get to that ending. It's not a kind of story that relies much on surprises that could be spoiled. That's my opinion at least. But do whatever suits you. I don't think there's an Objectively Correct:tm: way to enjoy media.

? How does vote manipulation affect the numbers for what the optimal Path to Victory is? Yeah it's fine We murder each other a lot in this game, no hard feelings. What's a little stabbing among friends? I do think the evidence suggests I'm not evil, but at the end of the day we all make our best guesses and if we get it wrong then oh well, we can always try again in some later game if we want.- 166 replies

I mean he sent a PM to me. I was also in a group with him, TJ, and Kas. Mid-Range Game 73: SE and Taxes
DrakeMarshall replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, I don't have the energy for an elaborate defense but how about this. Fact 1: e!Drake is considered "risk-happy" Drake is considered risk-happy. Both v!Drake and e!Drake. Just Drake generally is what I'm saying. Fact 2: The Wonko train has contained Villagers You can identify any group and say a priori it probably contains elims, and then say we should murder whoever's left after some of them flip village, but that's not really how math works. Fact 3: Striker was exed, not killed "That brings him up to 3, but likely more, considered his other earlier PMs, putting him in the lead." That's not really how that works either. You pay 1 vote and can do as many PMs as you want for the day. Anyways I didn't kindle any flame yesterday. Too checked out in the latter half of the day unfortunately. I did actually kindle some on Day 1 though. Fact 4: Other Evidence Without Fact #3 I'm not sure that Striker's opinions are any more relevant than anyone else's. I guess you could say Kas had concerns but he's a pretty equal opportunities with his concerns kinda guy, and we can make that case about most players here. Conclusion I'm not evil. It's been some time in the thread by now and a Drake push is all that's really happened. Let's fix that, hm? TwinStorm eat some of your own medicine. I'm not gonna give an elaborate list of reasons, I just think if you're village and doing such a motivated push then we may have lost if the predictions about 3 elims are correct. Either you're evil and voting for you is my best move here, or not and the elims can dogpile me and there's not much use worrying about it. Maybe there's 2 elims and it's not all doom and gloom, but people who thought about this game's balance more than I did said this is less likely, and anyways in that world we get another cycle to think about things, regardless of the outcome today.- 166 replies

Mid-Range Game 73: SE and Taxes
DrakeMarshall replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
RIP Wonko I liked your mech analysis even if I was reluctant to credit you for it. Alright let's see. First order of business, the lack of a murder is interesting. Either the killers forgot, or they decided not to. Those are the only options. There's no abilities in this setup that can block a kill, and the Hunter's ability won't kick in without the Target dead. Case 1 - The killers forgot. I tend to think this option is the simplest, a priori. Although the last few times I assumed this I was wrong so. What do I know. But like. It really isn't that hard to just. Forget. Especially cuz I doubt a 10 player game has a very big elim team. In this world, we're probably looking at a less active elim team. I'd probably rule out Striker from that team. Probably CD too. Both of them were around near phase change both in-thread and in PMs, which is moderate evidence that evil!them doesn't forget to submit a kill. Particularly any more experienced elims on that team would probably need to be a bit checked out around rollover for the team to coast by with no kill submitted. If we suppose an experienced elim is in fact on the team, it leaves <Kas, TJ>. Case 2 - The killers didn't kill on purpose. The maths sorta check out wrt skipping a kill working for the elims PtV. It's 2v8->2v6->2v4->2v2->2v0 without skip, or 2v8->2v7->2v5->2v3->2v1 with skip. Assuming 2 elims. In either case, their optimal PtV is the same number of steps. The skip does make the penultimate step 2v3 instead of 2v2 -- I suppose whether this is desirable or not is a matter of preference. The 2v2 means you'd have a 50/50 shot at winning there even if your team were outed, the 2v3 means you avoid that possibility of RNG deciding the outcome of the game which is a pretty anticlimactic way to settle things (unless TUO is implementing tiebreaker duels ). I doubt the elims did the maths tbhhh so I dunno why I'm doing this. Still, we're in the world where we assume the skipped kill is tactical and not just forgetfulness, so we're gonna wargame it out to its conclusion. I mean the other reason to not kill is just to mess with everybody's heads. Minimally, this speaks to players who like mindgames. As far as I know, nobody in this game likes mindgames as much as I do, and I didn't do it, so I refer you back to case 1 seeming more likely. Then again, I am not a Meta Expert:tm:. I don't exactly know everybody's appetite for this sort of play. I dunno. It isn't really a mystery that needs solving, and I've overanlyzed the lack of a kill before to my detriment. But that's my initial read of it. (merge) I feel like if CD was a narc he'd also be reluctant to just openly bandwagon his vote, so that's another slight point in favor of CD evading taxes. -

Mid-Range Game 73: SE and Taxes
DrakeMarshall replied to The Unknown Medallion's topic in Sanderson Elimination
My mechanical analysis: 1. Everything Wonko said about the Hunter/Target makes sense and while I hadn't really thought about it, I tend to agree. 2. Whether breaking the simple rules is worth it depends on timing. Early in the game, imo it's probably often worth it, or at least not that big of a deal if you incur some extra votes. Anyways, I've got a few votes right now, so don't be shy about antagonizing the shades Late in the game, there's less players, so each vote is relatively more impactful. Those extra votes could be the difference between the elims being able to force-feed an innocent tax evader to the shades or not being able to do that. Running At Night: Just not worth it in endgame, imo. I think we should taper off PM communications as the game unfolds. The extra votes are too critical when there's fewer players. And whatever secret thing you'd hypothetically want to whisper about in PMs, it's probably time to share with the class in any case, because there's not much use in carrying a secret into the next turn if there won't be a next turn. Kindling a Flame: This is generally a good tool to use if you're confident in your vote and want it to count for more. There's one exception I can think of. If you're leading in the votes and village, I don't think you should kindle a flame. At best you voted for an elim, in which case you haven't actually changed the balance of votes between the most voted villager and the most voted elim. At worst you voted for a villager and now 2 villagers have an extra vote on them. While it's understandable to want to burn brighter when you're in more danger, I don't think it helps in this case. Anyways, I think kindling a flame remains very relevant as the game goes on. While the risk is higher in endgame, the risk of not using it is also higher. In the extreme case when the village is 1 turn away from losing, we should probably assume that the elims won't show much restraint with kindling flames, so neither should we. At that point I kinda think everyone should use it, regardless of how confident you feel in your vote. Spend it like there's no tomorrow! Because there isn't. Don't Shed The Blood of Another: Breaking this rule is necessary to make any progress. It does theoretically slightly discourage overkill -- ie, in an ideal world you wouldn't want to pile your vote on someone who's already going over, since then you're just incurring an extra vote for no reason -- but, surprisingly, none of us can divine the future Considering how ubiquitious vote manipulation is in this game, I don't think we can reliably anticipate if someone is gonna go over or not. And so long as some villagers are incurring the penalty (which I should hope will happen every single turn), the benefit of personally avoiding it is kinda dubious anyways. I think the correct approach is maybe just to ignore this rule for the red herring it is. This has been mechanical analysis with Drake. Stay tuned for more. Well, maybe in a different game. I'm not sure what else there is to say about this one. -

Oh neat the game started. For my next trick, I'll any% speedrun the simple rules I ate the last spotted dick pudding in the fridge. And I'd do it again. But hey look I'm pretty sure I saw TJ kicking puppies we should probably all see what he has to say for himself if you ask me and asking me is a great idea
