  1. Fair points you're raising, Pagerunner, though I'd argue a few. So it's not a reference to Dominion but Devotion? I'd keep it on the list. Still an Easter Egg! I don't have a book on hand right now, but I believe I recall Spiritual Realm in SH looking much like a sun over the horizon. We'd need someone who can peruse the book right now, though. Otherwise, I'm not quite certain how I came to the conclusion either... I'm just somehow confident this is it She does have some connection to SoScads, which is exactly what I meant by this position on the list. Frankly, when I saw "now that it is dead", I immediately thought of the aether in the public chapters of Liar saying that another aether should be allowed to die. I'd include it as an Easter Egg for people who read that; although I agree that it might just as well refer to Hoid's identity as Topaz being "dead". I don't think that aethers will remain in Liar either, but Aether of Night was mentioned as being something of work in progress in the last State of Sanderson; perhaps out esteemed author is laying down clues.
  2. Aye, Senna. He mentioned her in Secret History. For some reason I assumed it was some deity he worshipped, not sure why. Here, mentioned exactly once: Now that I look at it, unless there's a WoB I failed to catch, for all we know Senna could be a place.
  3. Granted. You are a bronze compunder, but from today on, you'll see everything in shades of brown, and every drink, alcoholic or not, will taste like really awful chocolate to you. I wish for an ability to make puns that are both brilliant and understandable to others - without losing the ability to speak without using puns.
  4. Ah, you see, after the eighteenth page, I really need to tap some determination to power through the last nine... It's the high school final exams period, that's why
  5. You store determination while doing something you like, then tap it when there are nine whole pages of maths homework to work through...
  6. Re: Frost and 17th Shard, we all seem to assume that either the 17th has a goal Frost isn't aiding them in, or they have a goal Frost is aiding them in. What if there's a third option? I mean, nobody said that the 17th Shard is of one mind. There could be people worshipping the God Beyond and running around the Cosmere doing "His work", whatever it might be, there could be people who are just there for the views or sciences, like Khriss and perhaps Mraize, there could even be people who worldhop to trade. There could be a faction arguing for putting Adonalsium back together and one agruing for non-intervention and keeping Adolnalsium split. For all we know, of the three travellers from the Purelake, one wants to stop Hoid, the other wants to aid him, and the last one just wants to interview him, and they travel together for convenience. How this impacts Frost: for all we know, he could be supporting one of those factions within 17th Shard; he might not be supporting any; he could be playing all factions against one another, hoping to tie them up enough to keep them from impacting Cosmere too much. Really, everything goes. He might believe that Adonalsium should be split for whatever reason, and that it should be kept split (perhaps keeping it together kills the world, or something). We don't really know enough of the Shard to be able to tell. Not sure if that's all too much on topic, I just wanted to point out the possibility.
  7. Thanks for that. As for Purelake enabling worldhopping, I based this on the fact that this is where the worldhopping trio has been looking for any appearance of Hoid, which I think means they've expected him there. I'll delete the "definitely" part, though. Regarding indents, the book names are made with the bulleted list button, then I press enter+shift and make the "sub-points" by adding "-" on front, like this: (button)(enter+shift) (another enter+shift)
  8. I don't think there has been such a list made... Seeing how we already have the thread started, we might just as well make one. To start (and keep in mind I don't remember all of it): General: - The author of Ars Arcana is Khriss, of White Sand - The maps are obtained by Nazh, Khriss' coworker/errand boy, who's from Threnody, the world of Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell - Number 16, any time it shows up, is a reference to Adonalsium having split into 16 Shards Elantris: - The Lake where the Hoed are being dissolved is Devotion's Shardpool - "Domi" people curse comes from Aon Omi, "Omi" meaning "Love" - reference to Shard Devotion? - Svarkiss may or may not be related to Odium - Hoid appears helping Sarene with her luggage near the end of the story - In 10th Anniversary edition there is a moment when Hoid discusses not being able to become an Elantrian with a Skaze Emperor's Soul: - The Imperial Fool who helped Shai steal the Moon Sceptre is Hoid - Shai descries objects having Cognitive and Spiritual "soul"; something we later see in WoR and M: SH - Ralkaest (the unForgeable metal) is aluminium, which is also allomantically intert The Final Empire: - Kelsier's informant is Hoid - The Pits of Hathsin are Ruin's Shardpool - When Vin burns iron for the first time, she wonders whether she brought it to life and notes that it would be an amazingly powerful skill - reference to Warbreaker's Awakening Well of Ascension: - Hoid is leading Terris refugees Elend and Spook encounter (half of this list will be Hoidspotting, huh?) - The Well itself is Preservation's Shardpool Hero of Ages: - Hoid is the informant Vin avoids because of Kelsier's ghost cluing her in not to approach him - Adonalsium and three parts of a person (Physical, Cognitive, Spiritual) are mentioned in the epigraphs Alloy of Law: - The marriage the Vanishers attack is apparently between a pair of Worldhoppers - Hoid is a beggar chatting with the couple during said wedding - Miles' last words are apparently not-accidentally similar to death rattles from Stormlight Archive Shadows of Self: - The brochure in the middle of the book contains a story of a woman stumbling upon what's apparently a Shardpool or other perpendicularity; she meets a Southern Scadrian/Iyatil-folk/Parshendi worldhopper - Hoid is Wax's carriage driver - The Red Rip (it was mentioned either there or in Bands) in the skies is the same astral feature as Taln's Scar in SA. Bands of Mourning: - The beggar who gives Wax the coppermind is Hoid - The woman questioning Wax about allomantic physics at lady Kelesina's ball is Khriss - The brochure has an advert of "K and N" (Khriss and Nazh) searching for talking metal tools for unknown purpose - The brochure has a story in which we can apparently see Nazh shooting Threnodite Shades (from Shadows...) from some sort of a gun - The red-eyed "Fakeless" Immortal of Set may be a Voidbringer or a Svarkiss (or both!). At any rate, it's not from Scadrial. Secret History: - Leras has a knife that's apparently important and may be supernatural - He calls 16 a "sacred number" - He refers to Senna, who/what may be of some importance in Dragonsteel - Drifter is Hoid - Leras knows Hoid under the name Cephandrius - The land Kelsier is in is Scadrial's equivalent of Roshar's Shadesmar; the Expanse of the Vapours from WoK's Shadesmar map - Kelsier meets with Khriss and Nazh, who are there to observe Preservation's death; they explain existence of different planets - Nazh leaves his silver knife with Kelsier; Kel loses it, and it may or may not be important; Nazh's knife is silver, which is anti-Shade on Threnody - Ire is from Sel; they mention guarding their borders from Threnodite Shades - The leader of Ire curses by Devotion - Ati refers to a world called Vax, which apparently looks similar to "Scadesmar" - Leras notes that Kelsier "tried to rescue a boatful of people from a fire by sinking the boat and then claiming 'at least they didn't burn to death'", which is exactly what Shallan does with Wind's Pleasure in WoR Warbreaker: - The storyteller Lightsong invites at one of the parties is Hoid - Nightblood was based on a Shardblade (not sure if this should be here, as it's a Wob) - There's a Terriswoman nurse somewhere in there Sixth of the Dusk: - A lot of evidence points to the Ones Above being Sci-fi era Scadrians Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell: - There has been speculation that the "real" White Fox was Hoid - The Evil is offworld, and may be connected to Odium in some way - Threnody is named in memorial of something, likely of Cosmeric importance Way of the Kings: - Wit is Hoid - The three travellers in Purelake interlude are Galladon, Demoux and Baon from Elantris, Mistborn and White Sand respectively; they are after Hoid and belong to 17th Shard - The fish in Purelake have magic qualities reminescent of Aviars from Sixth of the Dusk - Purelake seems to enable worldhopping, as this is where the trio searches for Hoid - The letter from the epigraphs in Part 2 is from Hoid, likely addressed to Frost, who is a dragon and resides on another planet - The letter mentions Ati, Ruin's holder - Hoid used to use name Topaz - The colorful map of Shadesmar also points to other "expanses" of the Cognitive realm, including Expanse of Vibrance (possibly Nalthis) and Expanse of the Vapours (confirmed to be Scadrial) - Hoid is running away from someone; likely Rayse or 17th Shard - The white "sun" visible in Shadesmar (and in Shallan's chapter headers) is the Spiritual Realm Words of Radiance: - Zahel is Vasher from Warbreaker - Nazh is the ardent Rock chases away from Bridge Four; he was sketching bridgemen tattoos - Iyatil's mask suggests she has some connection to Southern Scadrians; she's a worldhopper - Mraize is a worldhopper; his collection includes a rare flower from Nalthis, a lock of hair (possibly Royal Locks, also from Nalthis), a vial of sand from Taldain (White Sand), a silver knife from Threnody and an unusual gem (could be from yet-unpublished Aether of Night) among others - At least one of the lakes on top of Horneater Peaks is a perpendicularity and might be Shardpool; the "god" Rock saw there was Hoid arriving on Roshar - The Purelake plague mentioned by the end is the common cold brought to Roshar by the three worldhoppers from WoK - Taln's Scar in the skies is the same thing as Red Rip from Mistborn 1.5 - The sword Nin gives to Szeth by the end is Nightblood, of Warbreaker - Iriali faith (from Ym's interlude) bears startling resemblance to cosmeric history - The letter of Part 4 is an answer to that from WoK, and possibly from Frost - The letter mentions Hoid having a gem that "died"; going by publicly available chapters of Liar of Partinel, the stone was an aether - The Ars Arcanum compares Rosharan lightweaving to Yolenian art of the same name - There's a man called Felt both here (on Dalinar's staff) and back in one of Mistborn books - YMMV whether this means something - Many graphics visible in beginnings of chapters are annotated by Nazh, including pages from Shallan's notebook, which he has apparently fished out from the bottom of the sea Here, all I can recall/dig out of Coppermind. Let me know if I missed something. edit: fixed a few mistakes, added a few points
  9. Going out shopping during any of them is bound to take much longer than you hoped it would. Dark Alley is like Sons of Honor.
  10. Uhm... Kaladin?
  11. He's trying to fool you! The Nightwatcher is apprehensive of the power this would give you, but appreciates the thought. As your boon, whenever you're twenty steps or less from people arguing, they stop by reaching a conclusion that satisfies both sides. The effects remain even after you leave. Your bane is that not only does it not work on any argument you're taking part in, people are compelled to argue with you even if they agree with what you're saying. I wish for the buses to run on time in my city.
  12. Granted, it's excellent. For your service to Sharder community, your bane will be light: from today on, the pages in all your books, comics and graphic novels are arranged in reverse order (in that the first page is the last, the second is second-to-last etc.). I wish for a Shardblade that won't scream at me, but will otherwise work as advertised.
  13. I don't think it's Odium. Uninvested as it is, it's still trapped on Braize. I wonder, what would a nomadic Shard look like in Physical? A moving nebula? Flying star? And what about the Cognitive, does the Shard remake the Cognitive area around it as it passes through? Is it a bulb of light carrying the Vessel inside? I'd sure take the opportunity to take a look at this Shard. Probably isn't going to happen until Mistborn Space, though.
  14. The "shrugged" part was very much a mental shortcut of mine - I know very well he wouldn't be able to take this easily. I must admit, I personally hope that if Ialai tries to blackmail him with Sadeas' murder, he'll do the right thing (as far as there can be such thing as "the right thing" in this mess of a situation) and go to his father, but I fear - and agree with your analysis - that he'll hide this out of his fear of revealing to his father that he failed him. Hmm, it would be interesting if Dalinar's flashbacks dealt not only with his time merrily unifying Alethkar under Gavilar's banner, but also his relationships with his kids. This could be as close to "Adolin book" as we're likely to get. My comment about the Truthwatcher referred to the fact that they're the only order beside Edgedancers who have the Progression to bring the Blade back to life. As I said, unlikely Adolin would end up joining them, especially given his Blade. I think it will be. Keep in mind that Kaladin ended the story flying off to Hearthstone. I suspect his arc in Oathbringer will be taking place largely in Desolation-torn (or is it?) Alethkar, while Urithiru business will fall to the Kholins. Funnily enough, his absence may actually help fuel rumours that he's the one who murdered Sadeas - after all, an absent man can't defend himself, nor can he cut you down for accusing him. This could give Adolin some sort of "alibi" and cover, which he might be thankful for, even if he'll spend all of his waking hours and larger parts of his sleeping ones fearing the day someone discovers it wasn't Kaladin but him. What I'm getting at is that even seeing Kaladin getting accused, he might not come out and reveal the truth until Kal is about to be prosecuted for the crime he didn't commit. Another question would be, of course, what Shallan will have to say. Adolin is extrovertic - she'll notice something's off about him. Here's hoping he won't drive her away with his behaviour, which, knowing his relationship history, might just happen.
  15. Done! Speaking of Adolin's arc, I'm actually fairly convinced about Edgedancers (I-don't-remember-who wrote a venerable essay about this that has me thoroughly convinced), and given the possible "let's revive the Blade" arc, it's either this or Truthwatcher (and honestly, does anyone see Adolin as a Truthwatcher?). Not to mention that with his Blade skills, Adolin could be really, really awesome with Abrasion. Dustbringers could also be interesting, plot- and characterization-wise, but still, I'm firmly with Adolin-as-Edgedancer camp. Out of curiosity, if I may, why Dustbringers? Something about their Order or Adolin himself? Generally, though, I'd agree that Adolin isn't the one to hide himself when accusations for his actions fall on somebody else's head. The only other option I could see would be Ialai blackmailing him with the knowledge to get him to do <insert something nefarious here>. Ooor... why not both? Ialai threatening blackmail, only for Adolin to shrug it off and reveal his participation in the murders himself... I'm not quite certain if this would be more funny or more heartbreaking.
  16. Granted... the banes he ends up using are the one about everyone around you looking like cucumbers and the one about saying goodbye only by "have a magical day!". Poor Taln... poor Kaladin... As your bane, you now have an endless craving for chocolate. In your every waking hour, you wish to eat chocolate. When you sleep, you dream of eating chocolate. When you pass a chocolate bar in the shop, you can't leave it - or the fifteen other bars hanging behind it, for that matter. When you pass a shop selling chocolate, you have to restrain yourself not to rush in and spend all your money on chocolate. Your bags are always chock-full of chocolate, and yet when you eat it all, you still need more chocolate. I wish for a Disney movie in which the princess commands a giant mecha and the prince is a timid scholar to come out this summer.
  17. A valid point. I'm wondering... I don't have the book on hand, but I remember that when reading, something Mr Suit said struck me as either showing he's a racist or foreshadowing something about the SoScals. Basically, he referred to them as "it" and started to say something about them not being human, at least not in the same way NoScals are. So |a|, Suit was being racist, |b|, something (perhaps connected to genetic engineering of Rashek's) makes SoScals different from NoScals, |c|, there's something very strange about SoScals, or |d|, I'm reading too much in a half-remembered snipped of a sentence.
  18. Become a Windrunner; discover you can now fly!; fly good two miles up; look down and discover you have a crippling fear of heights.
  19. We don't! We usually use 24 hour clock, saying something like "6:15 PM" sounds sort of awkward. We only say "in the morning" (AM) or "in the afternoon" (PM) when it's o'clock, and even then not always. Getting back on thread's tracks... You know you're a Sanderfan when on your way home you're trying to figure out how Radiants and their war against the Voidbringers would work in modern-tech society. Windrunner snipers! Dustbringer tank-killers! Elsecaller EOD squads! Possibilities are endless.
  20. There is, I believe, a WoB somewhere that holding Investiture grants you a bit more health. It could be that both SoScals and NoScals are experiencing cold just the same, but NoScals, having more Inverstiture flowing around, aren't as susceptible to its effects (hypothermia, burns...), and so don't consider the cold that makes SoScals shiver to be all that severe.
  21. Well, this is gonna be a close call, but let's try... Windrunner: 19 Dustbringer: 3 Elsecaller: 1
  22. Windrunner: 13 Dustbringer: 11 Elsecaller: 5
  23. Windrunner 13 Dustbringer 12 Elsecaller 8 Bondsmith 1
  24. Windrunner 13 Dustbringer 11 Elsecaller 10 Truthwatcher 0 Bondsmith 4 Sorry, Renarin.
  25. Windrunner 11 Dustbringer 10 (HEAL) Elsecaller 12 Truthwatcher 4 (HURT) Bondsmith 4 (HURT)
