Probably with Soulcasting rather than Illumination; Spark is one of the Ten Essences, after all. Likely much easier to Soulcast than Illuminate.

It's populated by people who professionally go between the worlds to planets populated by dangerous and potentially deadly beings and magic. I'm reminded of this anectode about a gang who decided to rob a pub that turned out to be policemen's favourite after-hours spot. More seriously, though, I suspect the ways in and out are very tightly monitored and regulated. You probably can't just Elsecall right into ladies' bathroom, and all entrances are probably heavily guarded. Other than that, anything you can imaging from mixing magic systems. Kevino was making a walking Scadria-Roshara-Selish engine of destruction in "Roshar vs. Scadrial" thread, maybe they have something along those lines manning the walls.

Hm, I would say this comes rather from the desire to prove himself as the Manly Man he's supposed to be as an Alethi. But consider other situations in which proving his worth isn't on the line: There are moments when Sadeas is trying to rile Adolin up, and it's Renarin who calms his brother down Renarin is the one to figure out a way to prove Dalinar's visions while others are still in the "aaah, visions!" phase of dealing with the problem When, right before the four-on-one duel, Adolin discovers he forgot his mother's chain, Renarin again is the one to stay calm, while you can see Adolin getting extremely upset, and send for the chain, likely to calm his brother down even though he knows the servant won't make it back in time While we see Adolin extremly moved by Szeth's first attack, we get nothing of the sort from Renarin Despite being wracked by the visions, he has enough presence of mind to figure out a way to pass the information on to his father without incriminating himself, and orchestrate everything to make it seem like Dalinar was the one to do it At contrary, Adolin is level-headed in combat or duel, but the moment he gets off the field, he clearly has problems dealing with his emotions. I mean - Adolin broke down and attacked Sadeas. Renarin wouldn't do that. Renarin would be more likely to either tell Dalinar about it or figure out a way to deal with things move covertly, like he did with the visions. Renarin's one blind spot in his aura of calm is this need to prove himself to his family. Which I think makes him more likeable, because he has a goal he really strives for. I'm guessing he'd have less fans if he just calmly accepted his fate in life and was a calm and ever-serene "calm brother" to Adolin's "hot-head brother". It helps humanize him. And frankly, I don't think it's fair to blame Renarin for distracting Shallan by the end of WoR. He clearly can't control the visions, and they might be source of this "blood sickness" of his - it's like an epileptic trying to stop having a seizure. I admit I'm not a doctor, but I don't think that's possible.

My favourite character is actually... Elhokar. Yep. I don't know why, but I really sympathize with the guy. It's like he's in way over his head - what with most of his family being badass and his father being a guy who's really hard to top - and doesn't have a lot of advantages that others do, plus his situation at the end of WoR seems to be setting him up for some interesting character development. Favourite scene... I've got to say, I really loved all Adolin duels, but especially the four-on-one one. All of it. It's greatly paced, Adolin and Kaladin are so competent and awesome, and generally everything is so great. Second favourite would probably be Kaladin's rescue of Dalinar in WoK.

I admit I like the character, though it's probably not all that easy to explain why. Like Yata says, he gets many points in Underdog competition. He has this cool, charming brother who overshadows him and who seems to excel at nearly everything he takes up (we know Adolin isn't all he's advertised to be, but he doesn't!) He has this cool, badass father who, while not a picture of perfection, has the reputation of being the baddest moth***er this side of Samuel L. Jackson and can live up to it He himself can't really live up to them, and he's been told all his life that he'll probably never be able to He's considered to be best-suited to join the ardentia, which is a highly unmanly job in a land where you should be the manly man He wears glasses. Those are some really serious Underdog Points right there! When he has the chance to rise and be a badass like the rest of his family (even Elokhar gets to fight, for Almighty's sake!), he discovers that his blade is screaming at him, making him pretty much unable to be much of a badass He gets the ability to foresee the future in a land where seeing the future = you are possessed by the Devil So in other words, he has a lot stacked against him, and people love the underdog. For other, his personality, and even appearance, isn't very specified. I mean, we know enough of the bare bones to get what we have now, but we don't really know much about him, meaning we can fill in the gaps with what we expect him to be. He's also mysterious, and has unusual powers, which are obviously torturing him (BTW, the scene you describe as him distracting Shallan, I read it kind of differently. He was having a freakout and obviously attempting to impart important information, while she was acting all "what a freak!" She's the one to speak, really! I don't hate her, but it's as if she momentarily forgot there could be other people with divine mystic powers out there.) He's a nice guy, too. He doesn't seem to be jealous of his brother, he actively supports Adolin, he tries his best to warn about Desolation without revealing himself. He asks to be a grunt in Bridge Four, and has nothing against washing dishes if that's part of the job. How many lighteyes do you imagine washing dishes on orders of a darkeyes? He's not stupid, either. In fact, he sometimes comes across as more level-headed than Adolin, and has moments of being really thoughtful and giving good advice (he was the one to notice that if Dalinar has visions of the past, they could be proveable). And finally, he's trying, trying really hard to do what has to be done, even flying in the face of known facts and assumptions. He tries so hard, I can't help but feel sympathy for him. He does try to pass information about the upcoming Desolation, even though he fears being found out. He tries to help his family even though he has no training and a blade that screams at him any time he tries to use it. He tries to save his brother's life even though he has no Plate, he's undertrained and the aforementioned screaming blade issue. Just think of what happened when Relis heard that scream for a second! He panicked and fled the scene of events, while Renarin didn't let out as much as a squawk. So yeah, I think he is likeable. He has this right blend of underdogness, mysteriousness and determination to do the right thing to make him endearing.

Why, I did need something to decorate that neclace I've been making! Those white thingies are really pretty. I trade a fistful of blue plastic beads.

Tanavast and Cultivation as patron Shard of relationships? Tanavast as patron Shard of buying others drinks?
-
Odium could be patron Shard of war of conquest, revenge, vigilantism, storms maybe? Devotion as a patron Shard of love (duh.), patriots, war of defence, loyalty, but also fanaticism and zeal. But I'd chose Endowment, patron Shard of gifts, life, Christmas season, birthdays, charities, multimillionaires with too much money, pay days, good mood, talent and the mythical FreeLCs.

WOW. Now I really want to see SA: The Animated Series, and the style you did it in looks really great. And those portraits! As for "what to do with the cards", maybe try selling them? I probably wouldn't be able to buy any (probably), but I'm pretty sure a lot of people 'round the Shard would like those.

[New WoB] Allomantic Bronze & the Listener Rhythms
Rasarr replied to Aethenoth's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Now that's interesting. Useful, too. Thanks for asking about it! -
Hm, you are right in that I might be reading more in that than it states. Too much tinfoil hat... I do, however, still stand by my theory that Cuciseh is not involved with Bondsmiths.
-
The JordanCon WoBs imply that there's some correlation between the number of Shards active on Roshar and number of Bondsmiths, and also notes that Cuciseh (Axies' spren) is more low-level than Nightwatcher and Stormfather. Right now, I'm more on board with the idea that Stormfather used to bond multiple Bondsmiths (if you can call two or three "multiple"), but who knows? Maybe there was one Bondsmith responsible for managing the Unmade... somehow.

Oh, right. RBTAAE is something I've had for a while now. It's gotten to the point that whenever I talk about a really good book, my friends go "It's Sanderson's, isn't it?" with this amused-exasperated face (to their credit, it usually is Sanderson). To add to the list, EEMHS, Every Essay Must Have Sanderson. Seriously, for the last six months every essay I've written at school (they require three examples from literature each) has Sanderson's book in it, usually WoK or WoR. SA fits every single topic.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Rasarr replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted. It's As your bane, you will now be dissatisfied with everything that happens in Stormlight Archive, as Odium's goal is just plain stupid. I wish for Mistborn: House War to have better cover art. -
Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Rasarr replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted, you will be exactly the same... forever. The Nightwatcher was wondering whether to keep your muscle arrangement and position exactly the same as well, but decided to take pity on you, so congratulations! You are now essentially nigh-invulnerable and immortal, and will be until the heat death of the universe... and beyond. As your bane, you lose all your senses except for sight and will never sleep, lose consciousness, get drunk or change the state of your awareness in any other way. Great Nightwatcher, I wish for a coppermind and an ability to store in it and tap it. It doesn't have to work on any other piece of copper, this one will be enough. -
About that unknown force/spike... (Minor Emperor Soul Spoilers)
Rasarr replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Mistborn
Hm. Good point. Been a while since I've read Emperor's Soul, so I admit I forgot about the link with geography. It seems like Sel has both the most versatile and yet most impossible-to-use-elsewhere magic in the Cosmere. I'm reminded of those planet vs. planet threads we've had of a recent - seems like Sel's part in those wars would be to just sit there and be the perfect fortress. Brandon did say that there are hacks for every magic system, though, harder or simpler, so I guess if somebody could figure out Elendel Basin's soulstamp "dictionary", OP's theory could is plausible. If an enemy Shard was involved, it's even more possible, seeing how they're supposed to get higher understanding of all things Realmatic upon ascension. -
You know, I'm just wondering... There are enough many worldhoppers for there to be the Restaurant, and for people to settle down in it. Better even! There can be people who didn't come to it, but come from it, meaning the Restaurant has enough facilities to support child-raising. So just how many worldhoppers are out there? We've heard of roughly twenty, and of those, many are either staying in one place (Mraize on Ghostblood business, Zahel/Vasher catching stormlight) or jumping from place to place (Khriss, Nazh, Hoid...). If there are worldhoppers who "set down roots" and have houses there, how big numbers are we talking? Dozens? Hundreds? More? Seriously, this whole thing is just so cool. I need a story set in the Restaurant. Better yet, an entire anthology. It could be framed as people in a bar starting to reminescent of how Hoid screwed them over, and then moving onto their adventures all over Cosmere. Imagine the tales they'd tell!

About that unknown force/spike... (Minor Emperor Soul Spoilers)
Rasarr replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Mistborn
I'm pretty certain this only impacts AonDor, with AonDor growing weaker the further away the Elantrian is from Arelon. Soulstamps are based on objects they alter, not on land shape, so they should work wherever the object would find itself. -
Ruro272, thanks, and thanks even more for transcribing it! Lot of RAFos, but there's some interesting stuff there. Wish I could live in US sometimes, I could go to cons... I wonder whether we'll see practical application of this "combining spren" stuff. If we jumbled together rainspren and heatspren, would we get steamspren? What would it feel like to the spren, anyway? The Great Threnody Question getting answered in Arcanum is good, very good (BTW, we have to come up with some shorthand, like WoK, WoR, TFE. Can't be AU, it already means alternative universe. ArUn?). And oh, to be a fly on the wall when Hoid and Sazed interacted... Wasn't he supposed to be Kalak? I've heard a lot of people saying it was Kalak.
-
Fun theory, and one I can see it proven - the question whether the place is in Physical Realm was met with a RAFO. So, assuming it was true, is the protector-Shard the boss of 17th Shard? Or are they unaffiliated? For an extra info for those who didn't read JordanCon transcript, the Restaurant (I just know that's what I'll be calling the place - thanks!) is where Iyatil comes from, though "her ethnicity" does not. Maybe she's from a group of SoScadrians who emigrated to the Restaurant?

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Rasarr replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When after a Epic Rap Battles of History marathon you start to think of Cosmere edition and wonder who to pit Dalinar against. For that matter, when you're trying to imagine Dalinar rapping and actually succeed. -
I suspect this is the one whether Khriss is working with 17th Shard at the time of Secret History (55:18). I'm guessing the meaning of the question was whether 17th Shard had any interest in Preservation's death and while Brandon did go on a tangent about her goals and Edward-Snowden-like philosophy, if you could put it that way, but he didn't say whether or not she was helping the 17th Shard by the time of Secret History. Also, the one about more cultures on Scadrial (1:14:16). I mean, what do we have? Terris, Southern cultures (Hunters and Allik's people), Elendel Basin, Roughs, koloss-blooded. Anything else, could there be more cultures on Scadrial? Oh, and let me just put my tinfoil hat on for a moment... Emphasis mine: Wayne? Vasher?

Uhm, sorry. Done. {spoiler}Hidden text {/spoiler}, with "[" brackets instead of "{".

That's what I meant by that line, though I see why that looked unclear. Fixed it. Added!
