Yelig-nar confirmed only nine surges.
Treamayne replied to lacrossedeamon's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
This probably belongs in the Arcanum section, not Coppermind - since Arcanum is where Events are turned into WoBs (which can then be referenced by the Coppermind). I have asked for the thread to be moved. -
Nope, but thanks for mentioning I forgot to add Elantris to the RoW Reference Oathbringer Spoilers

There is a lot of discussion on this type of question. This thread also has link to many other similar threads. However, for your specific case (if I understand correctly) you intend to do your first re-read of the Stormlight Archive, and it has been many years since the first reading, and they were your first Cosmere experience back when you started. In that case, you may not know that (not including Wit): Way of Kings has references and/or cameos from: Major: None Minor: Elantris, White Sand, Mistborn Era 1 Words of Radiance has references and/or cameos from: Major: Warbreaker Minor: White Sand, Mistborn Era 2, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, and multiple Curiosities[1] Oathbringer has references and/or cameos from: Major: Warbreaker, Elantris Minor: White Sand, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, Mistborn (both Eras) Rhythm of War has references and/or cameos from: Major: Mistborn (both Eras), Warbreaker, White Sand, Elantris Minor: Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, Sixth of the Dusk If any of those are on your "incomplete" list, you may consider doing those before starting your re-read. Mostly because Compounding isn;t automatic, you have to learn how and practice. He had access to A-Gold for an hour at most. Even if he had any GoldMinds small emough to be swallowd and burned, he had not prepared storage for compounding - which is generally that you make the MetalMinds to be burned, burn them and dump the charge that is released into other larger Metalminds of the same type (which can be accessed like normal), while also filling more small metal minds to be burned again. It's not a fast process unless you have already made the metalminds ahead of time, like Miles did (who kept many of them inside himself as well). Keep in mind that it is unintuitive enough that many of the Inquisitors under TLR that could technically have compounded in Era 1 never learned how to do so because Rashek refused to teach them the technique. Marsh figured it out thanks to Sazeds explanation in the Epilogue of TFE. Compounding WoBs

WoB on that:
-
There do not seem to be any WoBs specifically about Reachers and Singers/Listeners as Willshapers. Based on what Timber told Venli, it seems possible, but that was also before Maya's cnofession at the trial. We also know that Ivory acted against the greater will of other Inkspren, as did Syl (Honorspren) originally - so I think it unlikely to say that "all Willshapers will be Singer/Listeners", especially because Reacher's (and Willshaper's) Oaths are specifically about Freedom and Choice. Even if most Reachers prefer Singer bonds, I don't think that would preclude any specific Reacher that decided to bond a Human (or Aimian, etc.)

[Theory] Lifebinding, Voidbinding, and Surgebinding
Treamayne replied to Dunkelheit's topic in Stormlight Archive
Wlecome to the Shard. Please consider sharing which books you have or have not yet read (whichever list is shorter) in an Intro Post or your profile. Also, consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for tips and trick you may not yet know - since each "forum" is slightly different. You are not the only one. Please see: Venn Diagram of Rosharan Magic Unmagics of Roshar Rosharan Magics based on Lights Keep in mind that some WoBs imply that the mathematical progression (1 Shard = 1 magic, 2 Shards = 3 Magics, 3 Shards = 7 Magics) is more a philosophical question than a Realmatic Constant (Mistborn, Elantris Spoilers): There are too many factors involved for a simple corrrelation - your theory may be accurate - but it may be more or less complex as well. Interesting theory, just some things I thought you may want to consider if they apply here. -
Welcome to the Shard. Feel free to check out the Sharder FAQ for some tips and tricks, including techniques for useing Coppermind and Arcanum to look up information and references.

I did not mean time travel (hence the imprecise word - fiddle - as the best I could think of at the time) I mean some combination of resetting his position (he was back in the hallway and heading toward the room) and resetting Hoid's perceptions of events. I can accept that the memory of the first meeting was already in a BreathMind (maybe) but I doubt that was the only memory taken (still no SA5 spoilers if I am right or wrong, please). I don't think we have enough evidence to say that BreathMind memories are "live access" as it seems more likely that a mental construct like Sazed's "indeces" is far more likely (allowing recall and return quickly). I may agree that it may be possible, but we have far more evidence that stored memories are inaccessible than stored memories being constantly accessible (until we have something more definitive than fan theories on what really happened in this scene).
-
Caveat - RoW only, not SA5 spoilers: You are assuming Odium only did one thing in that scene, but read it again. He was not allowed to "harm" Hoid, but loop-holed the rule to steal some memory imbued breath ("this won't harm you" because they were something he had, but not attached to his concious mind). Then, separately (to disguise the theft), He fiddled with time in that one area (because only that room with Hoid "rewound;" not Design or the "audience") to make Hoid re-live the last few minutes. The time-hack is what messed with his short-term memories (which is still not "harm" to Hoid" because it was an area, not just him) but we don't know for sure what memories were stolen in the first interaction.
-
Memories stored in breath are no longer in your mind, you would have to retrieve them to "remember" the memory - same as a coppermind. That's why Vasher teaching Misel how to store the memory of her kidnapping made her "forget" the entire affair.

Sorry, I feel like you either did not finish reading my post, or you are misunderstanding. Focus is not part of a Command (see the references in my previous post) - rither Focus and Command are like two circles in a Venn Diagram - They may overlap each other but there are Foci that are not commands (Vasher using his eyelash as a unibrow on the strawman) and there are Commands that are not Foci (Fuzz's use of Survive). All that said, I have (and had) no intention of debating your theory. I merely saw things that I thought you had missed and pointed them out in case you wanted to consider them. For instance, the planet on which a MoI developes is a key component of that MoI's focus - to leave it out is like discussing an atom without talking about electrons.

Still holding out and trying to avoid everything SA5 and SP5. So glad the Spoiler Zone is open now, as spoiler threads seem to be (slightly) less frequent in the normal discussion areas now.

Welcome to the Shard. Sharder FAQ here, if you need it. I have a number of tools and techniques I share: For Mistborn Era 1 specifically, I use the Integrated technique So much so that, as mentioned in my eBook Projects thread, I mention how I eventually combined all of Era 1 into a Omnibus with 11M, TFE, WoA, HoA and MSH all combined, and the MSH sections correctly placed through the narrative Also mentioned in my Projects thread, I created a Cosmere Guide epub that attempts a spoiler free list of Cosmere works' reading considerations Example: "Oathbringer-References to Elantris, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, Mistborn Era 2" That way, they know that if it is a "reference" it is something that can come before or after (if you prefer to find the references in a re-read); but if it is labelled Spoiler (e. g. Sunlit Man - spoilers for RoW. Do not read before RoW) then they know they can expect spoilers if they read that story first. This means that for your idea, each item in the list would mention the items that "connect" For plot reminders I often recommend one or both of the following: Coppermind Summary Page (by-chapter, who was there and summary of what happened) - find them by searching <book title>\Summary in the search bar TV Tropes has a more generalized summary, but I recommed the specific emotion pages for reminders of important highlights - like Awesome moments in Mistborn Era 1 (most books have at least Awesome, Funny, Nightmare Fuel, Tearjerker, Heartwarming moments pages) Personally, I use these two to decide what specific scenes (if any) I want to re-read in whole; so that, rather than a "full book re-read," I sometimes do scene re-reads inspired by the above Then there is the Master Project by Jofwu (I think, maybe Paleo too), for all of your Cosmere Connection Needs - I'll link it when I can find it again. Unless it's the GitHub link (in the linked Cosmere 101 thread), in which case the link is broken now. Jofwu has been kind enough to supply the current link Hope that helps

That's on me - I was just too lazy and in a hurry. I knew I had checked before and decided to go off of memory rather then check again because the hounds were begging to go out, making too much noise, and my mother had already gone to bed. Besides, now you can steal the list and use it to "cross off" works as you finish them. If you need them, Warbreaker annotations are found here. Food for thought while reading (not really spoilery for plot, maybe slightly spoilery for tone): Also. . . slight backgrond spoiler

Well - reading order thread here. Checklist: Rough Cosmere Internal Timeline *Note the reading order does not match the internal timeline - (Not published) Dragonsteel White Sand Elantris Hope of Elantris Emperor's Soul Mistborn Era 1 Warbreaker Stormlight Archive Cycle 1 (Books 1-5) The Way of Kings Words of Radiance Edgedancer Oathbringer Dawnshard Rhythm of War SA5 Mistborn Era 2 Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell Stormlight Archive Cycle 2 (Books 6-10) Mistborn Era 3 Silverlight Essays (from Arcanum Unbounded) Sixth of the Dusk SP5 The Sunlit Man (not definitive - most likely shortly before or after Sixth - confirmed before Yumi) Yumi and the Nightmare Painter (not definitive - most likely shortly before or after Sixth - likely before Tress) Tress of the Emerald Sea (not definitive - most likely shortly before or after Sixth) Mistborn Era 4 I think you said you also read Elantris (but I'm not sure enough to mark it off). Considerations on choosing "what comes next": Hope that helps

Beer can chicken is when you roast a chicken vertically (there are special holders for this) with a can of beer occupying the cavity (like where aromatics are put when stuffing a turkey) - the result being that as the chicken cooks, the beer boils from the can moistening and flavoring the meat. I would guess that a "grilled" version would be doing this on a (charcoal) grill to add smoke to the meat. It would likely need to be indirect heat and a "low and slow" process to get the center cooked through before the outside overcooks.

Cosmere Magic the Gathering fan cards
Treamayne replied to Calamity_Engine's topic in Creator's Corner
Here is an old thread, though more about Mistborn as MtG than SA. In case you find it interesting. Also, have you reviewed the many WoBs where Brandon discusses his ideas on which MtG colors would fit which Cosmere characters? For example - Adolin as Boros (possibly Mardu - though that is the fan's opinion): -
Interestingly: The portion about the "natural curl" is in Shallan's description in WoR (Ch 47): Which makes me wonder if the original UK WoK was created from a slightly earlier draft, which was changed before publication in the US - but this description was moved to WoR for <reasons>. Would not be the first time that a overseas publisher worked off of a non-final draft (they too, have a long publication process, so if the agreement gave them a version before the final copy edit, they might not have received the changes, or elected not to use all of the changes). Also, possibly of note, near your original quote Jasnah's hair is described as having many tight curls (like your Brave reference) - but kept in check with braids and a bun. WoK CH 5: Hope that helps

Tom Kha Gai Crack Chicken You may want to consider editing the OP to maintain the list at the top of page 1.

Interestingly, this is one of those things that actually seems to have a definitive "turning point." WoR Ch 71:
