No breaks, they never stopped running, but drank while on-the-run (it was also how they kept swalloing pewterdust). TFE Ch 25: It's more likely that Pewter Dragging (which is mentioned to get easier and less dangerous with practice and repeated exposure) is connected to Overmastery and how one may strengthen their bond by dyhydrating to dangerous levels (White Sand Spoilers): Likewise, we have this from Kelsier in Ch 25: We also know that both the body and the spiritweb adapts to the use of Investiture, and that becoming a Savant is an extreme version of that process. The newsletter you sign up for at Brandon's Website. Some have reported not receiveing the link for White Sand last year, but as of Jan 2024 the link was still being sent - so if you were on the newsletter before that, and you kept the "Welcome to the Newsletter" email, then you already have the link even if you did not realize it.
-
I don't know if you read that link in my last post, but if you are on the newsletter, you may already have the link to download the free non-Canon Prose for White Sand. As I explain in that link, it is easy (and free) to read the Prose White Sand, then either read the many threads explaining what changed for the Canon Omnibus, or simply read the White Sand Summary (based on the Omnibus) to learn about the changes to the Canon version.

Yes, the Lichen living on the sand is what absorbs the Investiture of AisDa. From the Omnibus Ars Arcanum: Hope that helps
-
As @Quantus mentioned - White Sand is where the (likely) Luhel Bond is really explored in relation to Hydration, dehydration and how Overmastery can affect bond strength (it's mentioned in passing in Tress, but easliy missed if you have not read White Sand or know what to watch for in that story. That's why we discuss recommendations, is it not. To help a friend or loved one make an informed decision for themselves? But it's not just the ending that's spoiled in M:SH - it's the reality that people live on the Southern Continent. Though, being fair, if somebody has invested in Era 1 enough to read WoBs and/or annotations, they will already expect that to be the case as well (just as if they picked up on the foreshadowing in Era 1, they will already expect Kelsier is still involved in some way). To help make an informed decision, I would ask them to talk about Era 1, what they think and what they expect. If they are already expecting either (or both) of those reveals, then I would be far more comfortable recommending Secret History before Era 2. I still think the best reading of M:SH is the re-reading - Integrated and simultaneous with Era 1 (but would never recommend that as the first reading of M:SH) Mostly I concur - let them know the possible ramifications of either choice, then support whatever choice they make.

And infected the other eight remaining Heralds with that power. . .

We have a whole Recommended Reading thread that is populated by various users submitting their recommendations. There is also the What are you reading? thread, and you can read the thread or search that thread for people's discussion on a specific book or series - for example, go to the link, and at the top the search bar should say "this topic" when you hover. Search "Lightbringer" for discussion of that series (by Brent Weeks - Five books total - complete) that has a magic system similar to how Sanderson developes them (Minor Spoilers): Please see the Sharder FAQ for more on how searches work and other useful tips. Hope that helps

I think it depends on the reader. I have a friend that read all of Mistborn (including The Lost Metal) before starting Stormlight Archive, and when he got to WoR he beleived Mraize and Iyatil were the hidden good guys "because they work for Kelsier" and it removed all of the "danger" from Shallan's scenes in WoR and OB for him (he also missed out on any mystery for Iyatil, because he immediately recognized her as a Malwish Hunter). So, depends on the person's/group's perception of the importance of those subplots I think.

Chicken already answered, so I'll just add the WoBs: So, anybody that gets more investiture per mole of metal will also release a larger quantity of Feruchemical trait though Compounding (if they have both abilities and can compound) and it should not matter if that incerased power is through Savantism (Miles), Lerasium (Elend), or other methods (TLR).

Danke mucho I will say that after reading TOW on the subject I can see the application for fighting games (having spent way too much in Arcades in the 80s and 90s) but still don't quite get how that translates to books (as a tier - makes sense as a "grade" though, I guess).

What's your favorite topic on the forums?
Treamayne replied to #1 Taln Fan's topic in General Discussion
N/A - I want to say Recommended Reading, but that feels too self-indulgent (but I also cannot think of a single thread I have returned to more often) Cosmere Q&A -
It is. Partially because I find satisfaction in helping others. Partially because many questions I've been around long enough to know the answer and can (usually) easily find the WoB to post (recent example). Partially because I know having easy access to the ePubs on Caibre makes searching the books easier for me than it may be for most Sharders. Also, like I implied - this helps keep it all straight in my head. I don't theorize much (usually only things I noticed I had not seen mentioned before) because I don't enjoy trying to "predict" what Brandon has in store - I much prefer trying to understand what we have and extrapolate from that (rather than book specific - Bond Example). Here's an example from my recent Dungeon Crawler project (before and after): I can see that. The private message function is fairly easy. Not sure it has a multi-person version (like Forum PM) without going into a server channel though.

I'd guess that makes me an Ancient? When I started reading Sanderson (2011ish) I was in my thirties. When I joined the 17th Shard (2016) I was in my 40s. You can extrapolate from there. My first few years here I lurked much, and mostly posted to the Translation Thread and a few long-reach projects like that. Work (at that time) meant I had minimal time for surfing the web or being active in much. Since then I changed jobs which gave me a bit more time to participate (and read) and I found I mostly enjoyed answering questions and looking up references (Kinetic learner - looking the info up and posting it helped me to learn and remember the info, which helped me follow book discussions). So the next few years were Book discussion almost exclusively. Around Covid, I started getting more invovled with the community aspect. I looked for other ways to contribute, such as the Sharder FAQ and Recommended Reading list. Around this time, I severly limited other hobbies (MtG), so as participation there dwindled, participation here increased. I've mostly ignored Forum games and 90% of the entire Community section, only making occasional posts. So, has my interaction with the fandom changed? Yes. . . ish. It's still 90% or so book discussion - but it now also includes other, slower paced things that I hope can make the community better as a whole. I also try to help in non-Book ways, such as answering questions by-pm for @Just-A-Stick, or helping @Koloss17 work on Mistborn-inspired Magic sets, or simply making my eBook Project thread in case anybody has CSS/XML questions (maybe that should have been a club/guild/clan?). Can I be honest? I do not like Discord. I have a couple communities I am part of there (DCC, MtG, and of course Coppermind Editors), but it always feels like if there is any volume of activity - it turns into two-three-four conversations happening on top of each other in the same channel, and keeping track of a "conversation" is difficult to impossible. Finding information (previous posts) is equally hard. Maybe it's because I'm a FOG, but I really prefer 1 thread, 1 topic (even if replies are not "real time"). As always, YMMV. Hope that helps.

I don't get that whole tier thing y'all are using (which seems like high school grades with an S above them. . . maybe?) Old Response here So, I will use the same "thinking" I apply to my entire library (no particular order in each category - just cut and paste): At-Will: Series: Periodic: Summary: Enjoy: Bare: N/A DNF: N/A

I noticed a coincidence - and, as we all know, in the land of Sanderson coincidence is unlikely (but not impossible) In WaT we learn that Ishar took up some of Odium's Investiture from the Well of Control - and that was "centuries ago." In RoW we learned that the Everstorm has been "building in Shadesmar for centuries." So, what if a Herald(s) that had "bent" their Oaths to stay on Roshar - by taking up a measure of Odium's investiture forged a new Connection to Odium - and that (at least partly) is what allowed Odium to maneuver the Everstorm from Braize to Roshar in Shadesmar. OB/WoBs: Thoughts, Ideas, Discussion?

You lose your Feruchemical Storages. The storage is not just bound by the Feruchemist's Identity, but by the spiritual nature of the metal. Change the metal and now the storage will not match the metal , so it can no longer be accessed. WoB: Hope that helps

Spoilers from DSPrime will depend on how much Cosmere you have read. If you have read everything through Secret Projects/RoW (when it dropped) then you should be fine. WoBs (note the years on those Q&As): So, DSPrime was finally released because the most important spoilers it contained have been incorporated or removed - leaving the rest as non-Canon "echoes." Feel free to make a thread in the correct section if you want more concrete information or have further questions on non-Canon material.

Mods will correct me if the opinion has changed: It is preferred that you start a new topic, referencing the old one (details in the Sharder FAQ here). Often, what happens is an old topic gets necro'd - sometimes the person doing so realizes how old it is, sometimes not - but invariably others think it is a new post (because the only look at the most recent date and not the start date) and start replying with "answers" to things that were considered 2, 3, 4+ books ago (before we had the answers that are now obvious, and they act as if the old posts were somehow bad for being incorrect when the answers were not yet known). It tends to start a downhill see-saw that can;t end in a good way. Easier and better to start a new thread, quote or reference the post/thread that inspired you, and go from there. Example also linked from the FAQ (I'll see if I can find a few more to link here as well after dinner).

I feel ike you missed the inherent sarcasm in Sanderson's reply. To Clarify - the WoB: Brandon is not saying "A Lerasium Savant Ascends" - he is saying "you cannot become a Lerasium Savant without holding so much power that you would ascend" Which means, like Vin and Sazed - the Shard needs to have no Vessel, be seeking a Vessel and you have to Connect to all of it to claim the power (Vin - though breathing in all of the Mists until it burned her physical shell away / Sazed through connecting to the Nexus of Power dropped by Vin). WoB: Kelsier is slightly different in that he only connected to part of the power, and only partially Ascended, by using the Ire Orb. Hope that helps

You shouldn't have to feel that full re-reads are necessary, unless it is something you want to do (I read Wat and am now re-reading to watch for foreshadowing in the second WaT reading, for example). But it sometimes helps to at least brush up on "main points" and we discuss non-reread options to do so here. Coppermind makes this very easy for Sanderson. For many other series, I enjoy the Tropes technique of finding important moments (and sometimes re-reading just that section or chapter).

Definitive timeline, no. Approximate timeline - Centuries before WaT (so, still long after BAM and the Recreance). Hope that helps

Maybe common knowledge amongst people that like Lovecraft's stories. I have some familiarity with the Cthulu Mythos (and how it inspired other works, like MHI), but am not a fan of Lovecraft's stories directly. Trying to search for something like the quote you mentioned yielded useless results (because results were all about his stories, not about him).

For that matter, Hoid does not view this change to be a Torment at all - nor does he think of it as an effect that can or should be overcome. Torment is Nomad's term, not Wit's. So, it's possible that Hoid could not use Nomad's method anyway - because he does not have the perception that it is something to be changed or overcome.

Are you trying to say Lovecraft was afraid of marine fauna? Do you have a source for that? The only known source for Lovecraft's personal fears that I am aware of was his stating that the "Black mourning wardrobe" of his female family terrified him when he was young (about 5 yo) and inspired his then-nightmares that influences sotires of night-gaunts. From TOW:
