  1. Oathbringer is the worst of the First arc, to me. (One significant reason discussed here) Pending re-read, my preference: WoK RoW WoR WaT OB
  2. Please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips, such as quotes, multi-quote and spoiler tags. We have no data on that yet. The WoB is only referencing the Reactivity and what is left behind after a Reaction. Ettmetal, as used in SoScad Airships have not been shown to use Reactivity as a process, so we cannot assume that anything is left behind. It's also possible that, like a Misting "burning" a metal, the entire metal is consumed in the conversion from Solid Matter to Investiture, with no residue at all. Presumably, Era 3 will add information to clear up some of the Fabrial tech of Scadrial.
  3. Unknown. however one reaction with trace residue was in The Lost Metal, if you have read that. TLM Spoilers:
  4. I see this sentiment often, and I just don't get it. I like Tolkein for what he did for the Genre, and all four books are staples for a reason. But his prose is not that great. The story is good, and obviously has much more worldbuilding than we see in the books - but the books themselves are . . . good (not Best Prose Ever, and certainly not bad. . . just good). Separate from the actual Prose, pacing issues, hidden-info issues, and soft magic all detract from those stories for me; which likely makes the prose less impactful, since the story as a whole is less impactful. I'm glad I have read them, but I doubt I will ever read them a second or third time. Also subjective. I put RoW way ahead of Oathbringer, and arguably better than WoR. But I'll reiterate what I said above - it comes down to what you like in a story - so it's all subjective and personal preference.
  5. Two things come to mind: Access - maybe it's easy to get a job in Elendel with some powers, but not-so-easy to find work for those abilities in the Roughs. Like real-life - it does not matter much what capability you have if you cannot get to a place where those abilities can be put to use in a way that pays the bills or opens up opportunities. If you both can't find the jobs in your area and can't afford to move to where jobs are, then. . . Temperment - maybe the individual has personality/ideologic reasons to not pursue a set of opportunities, but still wants to find a way to use their abilities to make a living
  6. Header Bar option "More" > Click Blogs > Click "Create Blog" button (top right).
  7. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. We do not yet have this answer. It is beleived (but not yet confirmed) that White Sand is what was being referenced in Tress (discussed here) CH 23: However, we also know that White Sand is not a "spore," and is actually powered by micro-flora growing on the sand. The Lichen absorbs investiture, and when a (potentially - also unconfirmed) Luhel Bond is formed, it trades water for control of the investiture on the Sand. Discussed in the White Sand Ars Arcanum. For now, the only known connection is that they seem to use the same type of Bond. Hope that helps
  8. Fully aware that intent is required. Disagree. "Here, let me kill you with this spike that will, oh, by-the-way remove your powers when it kills you" makes no sense in context of the rest of Hemalurgy - That's what every spike does - take away a power when killing the sacrifice. It's only the addition of a charged spike that specifically changes the body to survive the application of a spike - and that's the only time "removes powers" makes sense with the rest of what we know (based on current data).
  9. Because every other listed effect is what a charged spike conveys. If aluminum "spike" removed all powers without having a Hemalurgic Charge, then Wax would have lost both of his abilities the first time he was shot with an Aluminum bullet. It does not fit pattern for uninvested Aluminum to function as a "remove all abilities" spike when gaining a charge, rather than being the effect of a Charged Spike.
  10. This is the Mistborn Forum, you need to Spoiler tag all non-Mistborn references, please. Otherwise, ask a mod or admin to mive this to Cosmere Discussion where references to more than one Shardworld are allowed (as long as the work is no longer in the spoiler period) - you can use "report post" in the three-dot menu to do this. - - - - - Question is, where are you going to get a bunch of people to kill to add a Hemalurgic Charge to your Aluminum Spikes so you have them to use against other invested opponents. Also, how will you store them to keep the charge from leaking out? Stormlight Spoilers: WoB:
  11. Some shards are Mono-color, Some are two color, and some will probably be three color. There are technically 32 MtG Color Combinations (That's why it's called the 32 Deck challenge): Here's the full WoB you excerpted, with more WoBs: Autonomy is likey WUBRG (because of how she employs Avatars)
  12. WoB: We don't know if he is hiding it, or doesn't realize he could do it (intent matters) - but he would be capable of it. Re: Sel. We do have this WoB:
  13. @Chaos may be able to lend his expertise. Keep in mind that Investiture (and Adonalsium) are primarily of the Spiritual Realm, which has neither time nor place - so any "dimensional" math model would be difficult to apply to these beings unless that model is taking the timeless/spacelss nature of SR into account. I think we don't have enough information to extrapolate the permutations of Shardic interactions. All we can say, so far, is that Shardic Interactions in the Spiritual realm are more like colour theory than number theory. For example (similia mine) Sazed picked up black and white is really trying to make both do work, and sometimes work together - but without every becoming grey Taravangian picked up blue and gold and gleefully tried smushing them together to make blue-black Which implies an inversion of additive and subractive color models, as Yellow/Gold+Blue Light Model should become a shade of white. Dor (color association unconfirmed - example is as example does) is like watery blue/white and oily red/orange in a lava lamp - pushing and shoving and moving around, but no Emulsifier vessel means no true intermixing is achieved.
  14. It's Warlight - as seen in RoW and WaT: Because they are mingled, and Harmony tries to use them in concert - but that's part of why Harmonium is so reactive - the mingled intents oppose each other. Hope that helps
  15. Primary WoB on your question: Only one of those is an actual Merger of the Shards, though. Taravangian took up two shards and changed Intent from Odium to Retribution (or is trying to nudge the new combined intent toward Retribution). However: What is known on Sel as "the Dor" is not one combined Shardic power with a single intent. In fact the powers themselves are not "coherent" because they have been splintered. The pressure and plasma-like danger is partially due to the violent reactions of opposed shardic powers touching each other in the Cognitive Realm. Sazed did not only not-merge Ruin and Preservation; he specifically picked them up with the intent of keeping them separate. The powers have "mingled" over the centuries, but are still rather far from combining into a merged intent - that is likely the biggest part of Sazed's problem as Harmony In fact, it may be possible that seeing what happened with Retribution would help him to discover how to successfully merge the powers into one combined intent. If so, that may be how/why Harmony becomes Discord (or some different combined Intent - Discord is implied but not actually confirmed, still just a fan theory). WoBs and References: Hope that helps
  16. I wish i could bookmark this post and go back to it later these are Soo good So, click on the posted date (which is the hyperlink to that specific post) then bookmark it. - or - Copy the link and post it in an SU on your profile, so you can always click the link there.
  17. Not unreasonable, however: You know the solution, right? Start searching out some top-notch Central and South American Authors, to help identify possible co-authors for Brandon's team to investigate. WoB:
  18. Please verify Browser being used. Check that you have Javascript enabled and accept required site cookies (firefox has a separate setting to allow). Can you please elaborate: Do you mean one of the following: You click the links I posted and nothing happens? You go to the area shown in the screenshot and see no information? You can see that Chaos has responded, but cannot see the content of his post? Something else? Also sending this by PM in case you cannot see this post either
  19. Of which posts do you speak? Harmony Showdown? Countries reading Cosmere? Something newer or older than those? If newer, it could be an issue on the computer or a time-out on the server when posting. We would need more data to help, but know that if you posted in the wrong forum, then the threads would be moved to the correct forum by Mods/Admins. You can always check your own history from your profile. For example, this should be posted to Shard tech Support, not in the Mistborn Discussion area. The main forum page has descriptions of each section for a reason - please make sure you are putting the correct content in the correct location. Please see the Sharder FAQ for more helpful information. Hope that helps
  20. Have you read the Warbreaker Annotations on all of this relationship and foreshadowing? Example:
  21. Just because that's my interpretation - does not invalidate your interpretation or how you related to Szeth.
  22. Copy all - sorry. I only followed the "What are you <blank>ing now" threads
  23. Yeah, the whole reason Arborio is used for Risotto is because it releases much more starch when cooked slowly (basically making it's own sauce of stock thickened with rice starch) - which is what holds the Riotto balls together when formed into Arancini. . . Sounds great - and a great goal to pursue.
  24. Not fine, because this is not a book discussion section, nor a Cosmere section. Spoiler Policy Book spoiling memes belong in the meme section for those books, not General Sanderson memes. If used here, they must be spoiler tagged.
  25. I cannot find an Intro Post so I cannot confirm what you have or have not read. Division is a surge meant to be explored in the back-half of Stormlight Archive, but from what we know (Dragonsteel Prime Spoilers): Yes, fire or other releases of energy are often present when using Division - and one of the primary known uses so far by modern Radiants. However, the surge itself has potential in many other directions. Hope that helps.
