  1. Kaladin is dead, as far as any Vorins are aware. Assuming Vorinism still exists in it's pre-Everstorm form once we get into the back five, I doubt we will see a "herald honorific" for Kaladin until book 7 or 8 at the earliest. That said: We know Kaladin's name is based on Lighteye's patterns (because of his mother's heritage). So, based on Dalinar's synopsis of Adolin's and Renarin's names, the "din" is likely to be a suffix - which also implies the Kala is a truncated root of a larger word. Oathbringer: WoB: Hope that helps
  2. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Most likely the former - because the Bond (likely Luhel) requires hydration, and alcohol dehydrates (ish - more it simply fails to hydrate and drinkers fail to account for the difference). I would actually disagree with your second hypothesis - if anything, it seems like Alcohol would increase a person's Autonomy (as they more readily act on instinct and ignore inhibitions learned from other people/cultures/beliefs). Hope that helps.

    12th Aether?

Nope, because I have not been able to attend a Q&A (and likely never will) and most people that do are too laser focused on RAFO WaT questions to ask basic things like confirming White Sand uses a Luhel Bond or if the Bone Spores are a legend grown from misunderstanding on sand mastery. There is even a thread where some of us post the WoBs we hope to see one day (but Brandon frowns on asking questions from other people - so it is rude to "share" questions) That's why I said "likely" and "implied" - lots of evidence, no confirmation (yet).

    12th Aether?

    Bone Spores (Spoilers)
  5. I would recommend The Sunlit Man after WaT and TLM (I read it before and wish I had not), TLM should be after RoW at least, but it is personal preference if you want to read it before or after WaT. Either order will have at least one unanswered question or "eyebrow moment" that is informed by the other work (not necessarily answered, just additional data). Neither work spoils the other (unlike Thaidakar in RoW being spoiled by TLM). The other SPs (Tress and Yumi) are also personal preference - in my connections/EasterEggs/Spoilers list, I have: Hope that helps

    12th Aether?

We do not know the eleven other Aethers either - the only confirmed Aethers are: Crimson Zephyr Verdant Sunlight Midnight Roseite The remaining Aether (and spores) do not connect directly 1:1 with Roshar's Ten essences - both are based on the same realmatic principals, but distinguish things differently. WoBs: Aether of Night Spoilers(ish) Hope that helps
  7. Copy all, sorry. I don't see anything searching the text for "loop" (or repeat) except references to the LoS, and one reference to the Springwork Rail "loop" it used to circumnavigate the junction.
  8. According to the WoR Lift Interlude, progression requires plant matter to grow, but does include an unknown amount of influence in how it grows: Likewise, Tress (once she realized the Luhel Bond) found some control over how Verdant Spores grow so it is reasonable that Aetherbound would have even more practice and control if using a Verdant Bud. Tress Ch 44: Hope that helps
  9. Sorry I did not notice the second question - but it was also answered on the interior artwork page, because the looping glyph is sketched with the Lily's scene: Hope that also helps
  10. It's described on the interior art: So, the example in the image would be executed as: Hope that helps
  11. Welcome to the Shard. Thanks for the intro post to enumerate what you have and have not read. Please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful info and tips. That said - This is posted to Q&A, which should be for questions that have (or may not have) definitive answers. Not for discussion, so this should be posted to Stormlight Discussion, anad since it involves WaT Material, it belongs in Spoiler Zone, as WaT is still in its Spoiler Period (Policy). Regarding the original question - keep in mind that the changes to Words of Radiance was mostly about Kaladin's Choice, and how that climax resolved in the Hardcover may have been a violation of his Windrunner Oaths. The Change was made for the Paperback edits. WoB:
  12. no worries, just takes practice (I used to practice on my old posts - so if you run into an old post from pre-covid that has a non-applicable random spoiler. . . this is why) That's also why we have the Sharder FAQ to give ideas and tips
  13. Well, it is a lot to wrap around, and we don't yet have full explanations, just many many implications. Such as WoBs: So, Lightweaving is creating an illusion, and it does not matter if it is Yolish Lightweaving (WoK Wandersail Story), AonDor Lightweaving (Raoden's Kaloo disguise), Rosharan Lightweaving (Shallan), etc. Some terms will simply imply an effect, regardless of the method used to get to that effect. Elsecalling, Awakened, Lightweaving, Midnight Essence, etc. will all be terms that can be used to describe an effect without necessarily implying the method or magic that created the effect. Variations will have differences, but they are all based on the same Realmatic Principals - so the final "product" can be comparable (in a way).
  14. First, please allow me to address some false assumptions in this section. Investiture minimally used in the creation of Father machine, and we can tell it was not Breath - because in Naltian Awakening, Breath is the power source. Look at the rest of the quote you trunkated - YPN Ch 39: So, it was Awakened, but lacked the power to fulfill the command - then went and took what power it could find. If BioChromatic Breath had been involved, it would already have the power it needed. Nightblood WoB (Annotation to Warbreaker Ch 58): So, the Breath when static is providing Sentience (Sapience-the annotation was before Sanderson began using Sapient correctly) - and Nightblood, when drawn, the Breaths are redirected to fullfilling his Command. This is core Realmatics - that large amounts of Investiture (any source) can become Sapient. Which also means that objects imbued with enough investiture may become Awakened (sentient or sapient) and the source of that investiture is not tied to Endownment or Breaths. However, because of the nature of Endowment's Intent and BioChromatic Breaths - the magic system of Awakening can facilitiate Awakening on much smaller scales (allowing the object to follow Command and Intent, with amounts of investiture below the threshold of Sentience or Sapience. The are separate definitions for separate things: Awakening - a Magic System using BioChromatic Breaths to allow objects to act on a Command (with or without investiture derives Sentience or sapience - usually without as they can only act on thier Command (and the Intent behind that Command) Awakened - an Object with enough investiture to become Sentient or Sapient (Cosmere AI). WoBs: So, we know that in Yumi's time, the "Magic" was mostly about Yoki-Hiju (Splinters) summoning Spirits and asking them to become technology items for the people (the Sapience, Command and Intent came from the Spirits, not the YH). We do not know what, if any, invested arts were available to normal people and we do not know what technology was used to create the Prototype or Father Machine. Did they have parts made from summoned spirits acting as components of the machine? Were they simply mundane technology powered by Spirits that had been converted to Hion? We don't know. We can guess that whatever method was used for FM, it did not have the requisite Investiture - because we saw how it obtained the Investiture it needed to fulfill its Command. We can also guess that the resultant being was not fully Sapient - FM doesn't talk or interact, it only forces souls it has enslaved to operate in manners necessary to continue fulfilling its Command. Much more like Nightblood drawn than Nightblood in his sheath. We can also guess that the Command was not a simply spoken distillation of Intent (such as Awakening uses) - because it is unlikely to have gone so spectaculary wrong if they had known enough to provide an Intent and Command correctly. As the WoB above mentions, the Investiture can extrapolate Intent from Command - so if it was something along the lines of "convert Spirits to Hion," then we can see how it would mangle that (FM couldn't "know" Spirit - just as Nightblood does not really know "evil"), just as Hoid says it considerd all Souls the same type of power source. I'm sorry if that does not really answer your question - because there are too many unknowns to say specifically "Torians did X, Y and Z to create Father Machine with Command "A" - and this happened." But we have also seen "Awakened" objects in other places where "Awakening" was not a part of their creation (TLM, TSM). Hope that helps
  15. Please do not double-post - it is against site policy. If you need to add comments and you are still the most-recent post, simply edit your post. You can find post editing tips (and other helpful hints) in the Sharder FAQ The land's cognitive representation tends to be something important to the entire planet's Identity (based on current known data), so I don't know how ground and objects would be represented by Rain - and I don;t see how Desert has anything to do with Lumar, but it's certainly possible the ground is spores under a constant Seethe - though that would not account for objects and souls (mist and glowing metal on Scadrial, Spheres and flames on Roshar). Hope that helps
  16. They would not "have" a gemheart because a Skeleton is, to a Kandra, like clothes (something they wear, not something that is a part of their Identity). They could consume a Singer in a form and mimic that form, but it would not have a Spren Bond "powering" it (looks, but not ability). The gemheart in a Singer is part of the Sternum. A very Realmatically aware may be able to realize that, instead of using the Singer gemheart, they may be able to get a similar effect using True Bones for a similar effect. WoBs: I think you mean "perfect Gem" (there are no perfect gemhearts, as they are partially organic), and you likewise probably mean aluminum. Based on those assumptions: The Stormlight/Voidlight were not "cleansed" - they were stripped of Identity - temporarily; and that would not apply to a Fused in a Perfect Gemstone (with or without aluminum or a Vacuum chamber) because a Fused's identity is part of their being, not inherited by hearing the tones of Roshar the way Light does. The same thing that happens when any Fused resides in a singer gemheart and bonds the body - the singer's soul is ejected and dies; that's why they are called Fused (ancient soul fused to new body). Depends, do you consider Herdazians and Unkalaki to be Human? They both have vestigal Gemhearts (which is implied to be part of why Rock and Cord can see Spren, their Gemheart has a bond). In theory, Hemalurgy could also bridge the gap. Hope that helps
  17. From TOW: Spoiler-free example - Some fundamental traits of Proto-Kaladin (Merin in WoK!P) and Jasnah are opposite the characters you already know - it can cause. . . distress in some readers (expecting one thing and getting something very different). I can point out a spoilered example in the WoK!P forums, if you want spoiler-without-context examples of some of the things that really bothered some readers.
  18. Please see The Unpublished Content List for details on what, where and how. As for Aether of Night, Way of Kings Prime and Dragonsteel Prime - There's no real recommended reading order other than, possibly what to not read them before. AoN: Elements of the story were reused (and changed) in Mistborn Era 1, so I would recommend it not be read before Mistborn Aethers here are very different than Tress or TLM - so maybe not before Tress either. WoK Prime obviously has a lot of elements from Stormlight Archive and I would not recommend somebody read this before Oathbringer(ish) Cognitive Dissonance is a thing and anybody reading this should be warned that many characters are very different - if you are the kind of person that would get these details muddled, it's probably better to skip this Dragonsteel Prime was not available until recently, because it was close enough to canon and could have spoilers for a few things, so probably not recommended before Rhythm of War An element of DS!Prime was used in WaT - so it may be beneficial to have read this before WaT to get more "Oomph" from that reference - but absolutely not required at all. Many elements of DS!Prime were recycled and changed for Stormlight Archive, so expect to see areas and names you recognize (but done very differently) Hope that helps
  19. To expand on what @epl2 said, one aspect of Scadrial we don't get to see much (and Terion was one bit of foreshadowing for that) is that the planet relies heavily on Metals, and, therefore, has millenia of advanced Metalurgical experience WoB: Another good comparison foreshadowing is (TES Spoilers): Hope that helps
  20. Nope - at least not reforge into an alloy - you could melt down a coppermind to change the shape - and the memories would still be accessible as long as it is still Copper at then end, but if you changed an Ironmind into Steel - the power could be sensed, but not accessed, just like Vin trying to burn Sazed's TinMind. WoBs: Hope that helps
  21. While not all editions reach your "required" weight - I mostly play Carcassonne, although we use a very specific set of expansions and a few house rules to make it accessible for my disabled 77yo mother, who uses games like this to aid memory and fine motor control. While not a "board" game, I've been playing MtG since 1994 (and it is now "officially" the most complex card game in the world).
  22. And with the Chasmfiend's intelligence reveal, it is likely the Yu-Nerig are similarly intelligent. It's possible Hog saved his friend that fed him so regularly.
  23. Mistborn: Secret History P1Ch1: Kelsier's disbelief didn't seem to affect his experience with dying. . .
  24. Theories go on the Book forums or Cosmere Discussion (for two or more books/series). Since this includes WaT, it belongs in Spoiler Zone (Cosmere). Q&A is for things like "Is there a WoB about X" or "How does Y work" - questions with definitive answers (or lack of answers in some cases). PS: Most will not recognize SLM in your context (I would not, had you not spelled it out once) The Book is "The Sunlit Man" and more commonly abbreviated TSM for that reason
