  1. Well, the Prime Aethers claim to be independant of Adonalsium, and pre-date the Shattering - so we don't know how investiture differs in this instance. WoBs: That said, the only other data for comparison is Sand Mastery, which also uses a Luhel Bond (implied, unconfirmed by WoB yet) - and we know that Mastered Sand is actually very-low Investiture. So much so, in fact, that the innate investiture of the human body is strong enough to disrupt the investiture of Mastered Sand (Ch 10). How or if that applies to Aethers is still unknown, though.
  2. Probably depends on if you are talking about Roseite Spores from Lumar, or a Rosite Aetherbound to Silajan. In the latter, if the Rosite breaks off, it disintigrates - that's why Prasanva's creations have to all be one connected piece/structure. We don't have enough information on Roseite Spores to know for certain how those would work - but Verdant clippings indicate that a piece should be able to separate, and even continue to grow up to the max mass for the amount of spore in the remaining portion.
  3. It's entirely possible that there is another Aether for a "soft" coral. We know they do not map as 1:1, but both the Ten essences and the 12 Aethers have related roots in realmatic properties - so if Crimson is the rough equivalent of Heliodor (Flesh), then it is possible that another yet-unknown aether may be similar to Garnet (blood) and create a soft coral rather than a hard one. Well, look at the Magnified Ones and how they use an organic armor to be a self-healing armor and weapon. Depending on the requirements, you may not always want the hard/sharper option that is more prone to breaking under stress - a medium that is more prone to deformation, but can return to shape and still function has many roles in many ways. WoB: Hope that helps
  4. I think you would have to convert Stormlight to Breath, and that is a bit more complex than just adopting tones (you can't, for example, convert Stormlight to Voidlight just by using Odium's tone - merging and inverting tones are different than changing the tone entirely). WoB: Part of this is that the Rosharan Lights are not fully Physical Realm Static investiture - their investiture cycle is specific about moving betweeen realms and renewing as it is consumed. Breath, on the other hand, is specifically about sticking in the Physical Realm and not being consumed when used (Regular awakening, not maintaining a Returned). It is used, then recovered to be used again. It's why Zahel was able to crack using Stormlight to maintain his Divine Breath (like Nightblood, it needs to consume investiture and has more leeway in what can be the source that is consumed) but still has not figured out how to power Awakening with Stormlight directly. WoB: Hope that helps
  5. As far as I know, it's currently only an Add-on to the Kickstarter. Not sure if late-backing allows access to the add-ons still. Hop that helps
  6. Minor correction - Vasher wasn't working with Gavilar to make anti-light; he was working for Gavilar and very well may have already known at least one method to produce anti-light. All the text tells us for certain is that the Anti-light that Gavilar obtained came from Vasher, and that Gavilar beleived Vasher was making it - it does not clarify that Vasher did in fact make it, or how he acquired it if he did not make it. WaT Prologue: We do not know that it was Vasher's choice to be separated from Nightblood - only that after they were separated, he did not pursue recovering Nightblood. Presumably if/when we ever get the sequel to Warbreaker, we'll get this answer.
  7. Welcome to the Shard. Please see the Sharder FAQ for forum tips and info. It is, primarily, a Sanderson Fan site - but all fans are welcome and there is a thriving community of general sharing (such as the Reading Recommendation Thread) Sanderson has a number of IPs, the largest of which is the Cosmere (one of many Reading Order threads). Nickle Summaries: Cosmere - Hard Fantasy multiple stand-alone and series constructed so a reader can read one or all, as their preferences dictate, primarily based on the concept of Magic explored through the Scientific method such that the worlds start mostly fantasy and work toward space opera themes and structure Reckoners - MG/YA Dystopian Urban fantasy - superpowers come to Earth, but using the powers drives one insane - there are no heroes, only villains (and how such affects the world). Trilogy +1 short story. Complete (for now) Cytoverse - MG/YA Sci Fan - Dystopian Space Opera - Humanity has spread in the galaxy and is currently trapped on a prison world until they once again learn FTL. Four novels, one prequel short story and three novellas. Complete for now, but with a spin-off coming soon. Legion - Urban Sci-Fan - Three novellas - Complete - Stephen Leeds is a genius Schizophrenic with DID, and the result of the two conditions is he hallucinates his multiple personalities. He claims he doesn't actually "know much" but each of his personaltiies is an expert in their field of study (when he learns somethign new, he manifests a new personality to personify that knowlegde) Multiple other stand-alone Novels, novellas, and short-stories Based on your stated interests, I would recommend Firstborn Novella as a good sample of Brandon's writing style (free on the linked website) Of the son of a High Duke of the interstellar Empire, much glory is expected. And expected. And still expected, despite endless proof that young Dennison Crestmar has no talent… Please feel free to share what you have read and enjoyed (here, in the linked Recommended Reading thread, or in the What are you Reading? thread). More info on what you previously enjoyed can help us make recommendations to you or help you discover if Sanderson is an author you would enjoy. Hope that helps
  8. General updates to the OP, including identification of which forums are for which posts, and updates to Forum traditions.
  9. I think the first page is, and will be, permanently supportive colored. The logo change is an annual tradition, here and on Discord.
  10. While there are no direct WoBs on Feruchemy's interactions with non-neurotypical processing, we do have this WoB on how Zinc functions: It is entirely possible that Zinc may increase the ability to devote attention to the subject being considered. An in-world example of Zinc (possibly the best seen in-book so far) is - WoA Ch 58: So, in a second he saw the lamp move, calculated it's trajectory - then used his other Feruchemy to counter what Marsh was doing. The Zinc part only needed seconds of thought to work through the whole problem - you would better be able to answer if condensing the mental work of hours or minutes into seconds could benefit your thought processes.
  11. Presumably, the physical side of healing is assisted by grafting matching organ/flesh material - but that does not solve the issue that the material is not Connected to the person's spiritweb, where real Cosmere healing happens. There is likely to be an Identity issue involved. (The Emperor's Soul Spoilers) At least, that was how I interpreted that scene - time was required to complete the healing process, and until that had happened, it was still foreign material in the body (just with a much lower likelihood of rejection). MeLaan even calls out the possibility of Necrosis.
  12. BoM Ch 21 Hope that helps
  13. It's not necessarily about "obstinate" - we know for Mistborn Secret History: Anybody invested lingers before moving on - Szeth had been weilding Surges for a long long time.
  14. First, may I please clarify - you say "cut in half", so do you mean two cuts (the first to sever the spine and kill a being, the second to cut that corpse into two pieces)? WoR Ch 72: Any form of healing that also heals the Spiritweb and can be used by the person while being damaged or used by somebody else after being killed but before the Shadow departs for the Beyond (assuming the healing can also reattach the Cognitive Shadow to the Body). You can make a Lifeless from a blade-killed corpse, Sufficiently advanced Regrowth (likely Oath 4+ or Fabrial), Bloodmakers with enough storage in thier Goldmind, if they begin tapping before they die. Likely a being can Return into a blade-killed corpse (but not confirmed AFAIK). Hope that helps
  15. There are still a few problems. Soulcasting is still making a change to the spiritweb (like Forgery) and you still have to understand what you are soulcasting into - you simply do not have the crutch of writing it out to help direct the change (which is why they Soulcast into essences, and changing anything more complex takes a lot of talent and practice). That's why Jasnah failed horribly in trying to soulcast strawberry jam in WoK (making an unpalatable mush - she had no knowledge or experience with strawberries or that type of jam) So the Elsecaller would have to have a knowledge and understanding of what Kandra are and why they work the way they work, and there are no non-Shard beings alive who really know these answers (presumably Sazed/Harmony does, TLR did - but even TenSoon and MeLaan don't really know why Kandra require Spikes for Sapience or how being a Mistwraith blocks Cognitive Identity - I don't think they even really realize that is why Mistwraiths do not have Sapience). Even something like their distributed physical brain is different enough from known beings that it is not intuitive for somebody without specific medical knowledge to understand. Soulcasting an unhealthy/dying friend into another biologic being won't necessarily heal whatever is killing them - The application of investiture is at the Spiritual Realm (changing the soul), not the Physical Realm (where Healing changes the body to match the soul). Hope that helps
  16. Realmatically, Cosmere Healing has nothing to do with the physical brain or the process of thinking based on neurons - it has to do with the Spirit Web (in the Spiritual realm) and the Cognnitive Identity (in the Cognitive realm). For Example (DSP! Spoilers) Altered Connection, yes. Change of what they believed (even unconciously)? not at all. It simply connected their Spiritweb to the ground so that their spiritweb tried to share Stormlight across that Connection. There are WoBs for that: Not as simple as normal Regrowth healing - you need highstorm-levels of investiture (which is why the Singers change forms in Storms), and I doubt changing Spiritual or Cognitive Identity is as easy as you seem to think it is. Forgery has a shortcut, because instructions are being sent to the Spiritweb directly though the MoI - but it cannot last long even in Forgery of oneself, because the soul fights unnatural changes. .
  17. It is Preservation's Tone. Please note that the WoB says "A Pure Tone of Scadrial" not "The Pure Tone of Scadrial" Also note that Seekers are hearing Rhythms of Preservation's Tone when they listen for Metals being burned. Hope that helps
  18. Unlikely to be Kandra, if for no other reason that Riina is so scared of Kandra she keeps acid on hand at all times to kill them if one came close to her.
  19. The letters indicate that Harmony has not yet found/positioned Wax because he has only begun to consider "Someone who embodies both Preservation and Ruin. A....sword, you might say, who can both protect and kill." - and there were 340+ Scadrian Years for Hoid to visit Scadrial post Catacendre but before becoming "Wit" on Roshar. I do not see any conflict, can you please elaborate?
  20. Most of it can also be found on the Website, including download links for epub versions (either by chapter, or all together - but the formatting leaves much to be desired, so I am fixing my copy). You can also offer, they are interested, I've taken some of teh Reddit-only material and made epubs for that as well (and will offer them to Hambone for his site, if he wants). Xiu Saga - 90% complete Good Training - 90% complete (includes Champions and Champions 2, plus Interludes) MIA - 80 % complete Waters of Babylon - 60% Complete Humans Don't Make Good Pets - 20% complete Salvage 10% complete Not sure if I will finish the last two. HDMGP I may just do season one, since that's the only relevant part so far. Salvage I have not started reading (just converted from Reddit to Word - which is my first step to crafting an ePub version) and since it is so big, I'll have to see if I like it enough to invest the time. The top three and Deathworlders through Ch 41 should be sharable shortly - which is all integrated into one book, with those three integrated in timeline order.
  21. I figured it makes it more calculable - if we know: AoL only lasts a few days from Ch 1 to Ch 20 - so any calculation should be accurate to within a week or less
  22. Do you have a source for that? Because WoB states that AoL is after WaT. The Hoid Epilogue in WaT is during the events of AoL - WaT Epilogue: The Carriage driving off of the cliff is the event that put the AoL Prologue into motion causing Wax to move back to Elendel from the Roughs. Hope that helps
  23. Especially since we see Aux leaving with the Caravan at the end of WaT.
  24. Did you check the page 1 post? Edit: Fixed
