Probably not true, but a fun thought. What if Rial is Thaidakar? He appears out of nowhere as a bridgeman who gets close to Dalinar. He also feels like potential worldhopper material, which fits for the lord of the Ghostbloods. I think it is pretty reasonable to assume that Thaidakar would want to keep an eye on Dalinar. Also, dressing up as soldiers to get close to people is a certified Ghostblood tactic, tried and tested with great success by Mraize. So, what do you think?

I like the idea a lot, but, as other people have said, I doubt Dalinar has the power to merge Odium with all other Shards. He would be more powerful than Honor-fueled Ishar at that point, which wouldn’t make sense. He could defenitely mix up Odium with some Shards, but not all of them. Or, he could just, you know... Belonging to multiple orders
Toaster Retribution replied to Elsecaller_17.5's topic in Stormlight Archive
Syl is not a great example though. She is generally possessive and kind-of self centered. Someone like Pattern would probably be far more chill with sharing a human with another spren. Generally though, I agree. Most spren wouldn’t like it. -
@Pathfinder I agree. Lightweavers have huge potential, and so does Shallan as a character (fingers crossed for a more complete arc in SA4).
-
@Karger I agree. I kinda hope Mysterio returns to be Marvels new big anti-hero, since Loki is dead. Using Jake Gyllenhaal for only one film seems like a waste, especially since he seems to like Quentin Beck. @Pathfinder If Shallan gets Radiant plate, the fight is hard to debate, since we dont know how those works. I still bet on Beck. I think he is more cunning, and (without the Plate) his drones should shoot Shallan enough that she runs out of Stormlight before she gets to him, especially considering that she needs to maintain illusions. Beck can also create an entire environment around her, whereas Shallan has, as far as I remember, not created illusions on that scale (except for the army, and that took everything she had).
-
The opposite actually: things will be far more exciting if Azure ruins Endowments plans, unknowingly.
-
Yeah, Beck is arrogant, but I dont really think that it would be a problem for him when fighting Shallan. It wasn’t his arrogance that made him lose in FFH. Pattern is an advantage though. I dont know if Shallan would be helped by knowing that the things she saw were illusions though. Seeing them would be enough.

That rat is such an underrated character. And amazingly portrayed. The rat that played him/her should get at least one Oscar. -
I can see the argument for Mysterio not swearing the first ideal. I can also see how he would though. The first ideal is more flexible than you would think. And Mysterio doesnt play fair. Shallan doesn’t either, but Beck is sooo much better at not playing fair. He used Peters trauma against him. He would just create illusions that showed Shallan all her traumas, which would completely break her down. Then he would just have to shoot her until she ran out of Stormlight. As long as he knows where she is, and her story, he could take her down easily. @Pathfinder, I agree with you :-) I think it worked really well. And the scene where he went crazy with the illusions was sooooooo good.
-
Nah, he is at least ideal four. His illusions are very good. Mysterio would kick Shallans chull, easily.

I think that even though its pretty obvious, and even though you know that he is evil (I went in knowing that he would be the villain) the reveal is pulled off in such a great way. How the room changes, and how Becks behavior changes, how Gyllenhaal drastically changes his acting. I think that was a really great moment, and caught me a little off-guard, even though I knew it was coming.

There were only room for 30 names, so... yeah. I would have loved to include Hill, Korg, Talos, Ultron, Pietro, Beck, MJ, etc, but, yeah... Edit: Thanks for the kind words btw :-) -
SA and mental illness
Toaster Retribution replied to Elsecaller_17.5's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I suffer from mental illness (some kind of OCD). Not really one that Brandon has portrayed, at least not yet, but if he did, I don’t think I would be screwed up if the character didn’t get a happy ending. I think we can use journey before destination here. Kaladin, Shallan, and all the other characters who suffer from mental issues are doing their very best in spite of their issues. They are facing their problems, and they are heroes in spite of them. If Kaladin, for example, dies in the first chapter of SA4 (not even George RR Martin would do that), we can still look back at how he saved the Bridgemen, saved Dalinar, revived Syl, stood up against Moash, pulled himself together after Elhokars death, fought Amaram and chose life before death at the Chasm in WoK. Even if he should die, his struggles has helped him, and many, many others. I think that is a really powerful message. This is how I see it, at least. Hope it helps. Just trying to see it from a positive light. I get if you dont feel the same though. We all have different experiences, and cope with our problems in different ways. Good luck mate (and hope the characters you identify with gets a happy ending). -
Szeth - A Shard's champion(Probably Cultivations)
Toaster Retribution replied to CleverCremling's topic in Stormlight Archive
It does seem quite likely. Lightweavers seem to revolve around deception and spying, and their oaths are basically admitting their own lies to themselves, which is a painful but effective growing process, and quite similar to what Cultivation did to Dalinar. Also, Edgedancers, who are on that side too, are litterally able to make plants grow. I think it is confirmed that the table is divided by Honor and Cultivation, but even if it isn’t, it is very solid speculation. -
I’m pretty sure the quote is from a letter sent by either Hoid or Frost. Sorrow is a cool idea for a Shard, and an idea I havent seen before. I actually quite like it. The planet that Sorrow is on is probably incredibly depressing though. Tears gives you magic or something. Also, welcome to the forums!

I think its mostly just pointing out how ironic it is that Azure was so close to finding what she was looking for.

I felt that all the characters in the poll are more major than him. -
Simple, who are your favorites, and why? The poll is multiple choice and includes as many characters as I could.

I really loved the movie. It is a lot better than Homecoming, which I find pretty boring after several viewings. The action in FFH is MUCH better (that Mysterio sequence was awesome). I also like that MJ got a bigger role here. My favorite part was Mysterio though. I loved the character, and Gyllenhaals performance as Beck. I sincerely hope he is still alive, and returns in future movies. It also gets extra points for having Talos.

Dear nathrang, answer these: -Kelsier or Kaladin? -Who would win in a fight, Darth Vader or a nathrang? -How often do you use a toaster? -Do aliens exist? -Why is Beric Dondarrion the best character ever created?

Books You Had to Put Down
Toaster Retribution replied to Draginon's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I disagree. Poe is actually a pretty good character. He is a hothead who can’t sit back while other people do important things, and then he learns the value of doing so during the course of the movie. He learns to trust other people than himself, and learns that he doesn’t need to know everything. Also, executing your best pilot, when you have very little manpower is not very smart. Especially when you consider that said pilot is popular amongst the remaining crew, who needs to have their morale up in an already tough situation. Furthermore, if people want good Star Wars books, I recommend Timothy Zahns new Thrawn books. Thrawn could watch paint dry and it would be interesting, because he is that great of a character. -
My new fan-cast: Kelsier - Jake Gyllenhaal (or Michael Fassbender) Vin - Georgie Henley Sazed - Sterling K Brown Elend - Josh Hutcherson Breeze - Eddie Izzard Marsh - Richard Dormer Ham - Sam Worthington Spook - Asa Butterfield Clubs - David Bradley Kar - Julius Hafthor Björnsson Lord Ruler - Benedict Cberbatch OreSeur - Julian Glover Straff Venture - Mikael Persbrandt Shan Elariel - Emma Watson Jastes Lekal - Marco Ilso Telden Hastings - Rupert Grint Reen - Richard Harmon Camon - Ian Beattie Hoid - Tom Hiddleston Ruin - Billy Crudup TenSoon - Andy Serkis Cett - Woody Harrelson

Rysn could be the Stormlight Bran Stark. Jokes aside, I agree. Rysn is more interesting when she is partially paralyzed.
