Kelsiers story has a heavy theme of life and death, and surviving, specifically. First, he lives trough the Pits of Hathsin against all odds, and then he sacrifices himself as a martyr in order to found a religion and bring down the Lord Ruler. However, Kelsier survives death, and has now returned to PR. So my question is, how do you guys think his story will continue, considering his theme of surviving. Will he finally die, or be one of those who survives the Cosmere story?

Concerning Gavilar, we dont really know when he first started having visions, or when he got involved with the SoH. Presumably his actions (including building a kingdom through bloody war) was something he saw as the right thing. Gavilar seems to have been a pretty conservative guy, with a strong wish for the Vorin church to gain power, and so I presume that he might have had a strong love for his country as well, and thus, he wished to unite Alethkar (and I'm not saying that conservatives or religious people are bad, just to avoid misunderstandings). Gavilar, just like Dalinar, tried to unite, but they sought to do it for different purposes. I do think that Gavilar felt very justified though, which is why he was able to pass the ideals and eventual oaths. And then, when it comes to Stormfather, he is the guy who replied to a plea for help with sending a storm to wash away corpses. He doesnt seem to be awfully picky about who he chooses as a Radiant. At least, he seems to prioritize himself over humanity, given his unwillingness to bond Dalinar. Maybe strenght and security matters more to him than individual kindness.

The interpretation of the Oaths
Toaster Retribution replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
First off, good summary, nice job! You would get an upvote if I hadn't run out of them. I dont think people use the ideals as a means for arguing against characters specifically because they dislike them though. I made the ends justify the means argument against Amaram and Mr. T a couple of days ago, but I actually like both Amaram and Mr. T. But whatever, now we cant really use that argument anymore, and it certainly opensnew possibilities when it comes to speculation on who the new Radiants will be. -
Favorite and least favorite MCU movie? What country are you from? Do you think the Han Solo movie will be good?

Who should get a novella?
Toaster Retribution replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
In the Stormlight forum, the only Stormlight-related things you need to place in spoiler tags are the ones related to Edgedancer and Oathbringer :-) Everything from WoK and WoR can be spoken about freely (in this particular section). -
Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

You will come up with answers so good that no one else understands them. I wish for the ability to turn myself into a duck with a Nahel bond. -
This does make sense. I still find it a bit farfetched, but who knows, maybe Raoden ascends and you prove me wrong. Anyway, good thinking, and fun discussion!

We have Edgedancer with Lift already, but if Brandon were to make another Stormlight "short" story (Brandons short stories are pretty long), who would you guys like to see as the main character? Personally, I'd love to see Axies, and some of his backstory being explored.
-
These are all good points. I doubt Raoden would be experienced enough with the powers to hide well, at least not at first. However, with experience he might learn, or Khriss/Hoid/another benevolent (no pun intended) person might help him to do it. If he can't hide however, trying to keep him hidden by not talking of him seems relatively pointless. While the majority of the people alive in the Cosmere cant worldhop, there are still a lot of different folks who can. The Ire, Ghostbloods, Silverlight, 17th Shard, Warbreaker characters and Hoid are probably just a few of the ones who can. Someone might bump into Raoden, especially if he doesnt know how to hide his powers. And also, some of these, like Khriss, Hoid or maybe the Ire would probably be quite good at finding Shards in hiding too.

Best Stormlight Book (Spoilers all)
Toaster Retribution replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Shallan-Kabsal scenes were very enjoyable to read actually. -
Welcome, and pretty much agreed. I wouldnt have anything against Adolin or Elhokar as Radiants, but I definitely want more focus on non-Kholin characters (and Bridgemen).
-
This is certainly an interesting way of seeing it. Then maybe Amarams short time as a "Radiant" in WoR might foreshadow something more permanent.

Best Stormlight Book (Spoilers all)
Toaster Retribution replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
More things happened in WoR, we got more from interesting secret society characters like Amaram, Taravangian and Mraize, as well as much better fight scenes, a major death, and the best spren yet (Pattern). Words of Radiant is better, even though Way of Kings has the cooler title, and an Axies POV. EDIT: Another high point of WoK worth mentioning is the awesome prelude. I dont know why, I just love that one. -
I do give you points for creating an interesting theory (and a fun debate). To counter your counterargument, I do think that for this all to work, neither Khriss, nor someone from Silverlight can have been visiting Sel in the CR for a long time. It is possible that Raoden is hiding, and able to keep the magic system working, but I do believe that Khriss or other worldhoppers would notice a massive, if wounded, Shard chilling in the CR.
-
Do you like beavers? Who is your favorite Cosmere character? And also, your favorite Cosmere book?
-
Okay, so on Sel, magic is related to geography, because of the fact that Odium splintered Dominion and Devotion and placed the leftovers in the CR. What I wonder is, had the effects been similar on Scadrial if Odium had killed Ruin and Preservation, and placed their investiture in the CR?
-
I have a problem with this Raoden-theory, which goes as follows: If Raoden picks up Dominion and Devotion, and becomes Benevolence/random other cool name, then that would effectively change how magic works on Sel, since the Dor wouldnt be trapped in the CR any longer. I feel like Khriss essay in AU basically tells us that this hasnt happened. If I remember correctly, the AU essays are written around the same time as Stormlight 1-5/Mistborn Era 2, which means a very long time after the events of Elantris. If something had changed drastically regarding Selish magic in the time between Elantris and the Sel essay, I feel like Khriss should have mentioned it.

What are you playing right now?
Toaster Retribution replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Playing Awesomenauts, one-line platformer MOBA on Steam (recently went F2P). Its a long time since I played it, but now I've picked it up again. I also bought Horizon Zero Dawn a couple of weeks ago. Really nice game. -
The Amaram and Taravangian ideas are interesting. Both of them could be argued have honorable goals, but their means suck. That breaks the "journey before destination" oath, and should thus stop both of them from becoming Radiants. On the other hand are the fact that some orders might find ways to get around this, for example, Nale being willing to take Szeth, because Szeths actions, no matter how despicable, followed the law. And Taravangian as a Bondsmith would defenitely be interesting.

You appear to be a very intelligent person, who adds a lot to the forum due to the fact that you have reached Misting, and almost 900 posts in less than a years time. And also, you are a distributer of random upvotes :-D -
I just wonder how Elend would react to the biggest city in the Cosmere being named after him. Also @The One Who Connects those were some very interesting WoBs.

I prefer Stormlight, for the reasons you stated: I love extremely epic stuff, and Stormlight definitely fits the bill. Mistborn should get a mention for Kelsier though. Brandons best character. Also, you are new. Welcome to the forum!
