Why would she be unimportant? I think she will be pretty important. She is aligned with Taravangian, showed up randomly with a Shardblade, and makes Dalinar uncomfortable. Malata will have a role to play, no doubt. She might be May Aladar. I'm interested in why she hints a smile every time she looks at Dalinar.

She is supposed to be a stunning beauty. I think Dalinar would have mentioned that. Ishar is mad. Completely batshit crazy. Ishar thought the Oathpact would break when the Heralds abandoned humanity, but he might have changed his mind. Either that, or his madness just makes him give himself fancy titles. He is supposed to be pious and guiding. This letter is pretty much as much of a perversion of pious as you can get. I am basically convinced that he is Tezim.

Okay, thoughts (a lot of them): *Mraize is as awesome as ever. It doesn't surprise me that he has a bird for hunting either. And also, he dropped a bombshell about the Ghostbloods goal: they will use the power of the Voidbringers to gain power, it seems. Huh. *Mraize more or less confirmed that Mr. Copycat isn't human. *Ialai and Sadeas aren't Ghostbloods, which means that Mraize is most likely trying to use them for something. He might be spying on them because of their friendship with Amaram too. *Amaram is back! Yay! I know everyone hates him, but I like the guy. *Adolin owned Ialai. Great moment. *I find it interesting that the Voidspren looked Shin. Are the Shin affiliated with Odium in some way? I can see that. *I wonder who the Voidsprens commander is. An Unmade? I think so. It looks like they will be focused on in this book, since they are mentioned on the cover and everything. Also, the nine shadows deal. *Taravangian seems to be acting stupider than he is, today. I also like how he tries to turn Dalinar into a conqueror, and not a diplomat. He really wants the Blackthorn as an ally. *Malata is a Dustbringer! Yay for the Dustbringers! I am very intrigued by this lady. Wonder what her goal is? *That message more or less confirmed Ishar = Tezim. And finally, this: You just gotta love the Shin.

Guess I'll need to read my Bible more :-D But hate isn't one of Gods primary attributes, in any case. He is more angry than hateful, I'd argue.- 76 replies

theory The Rest of the Shards and Where to Find Them
Toaster Retribution replied to Khyrindor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In order to have a cooler name, and a cooler Shard, but still have the mystery parts, I suggest Trickery for a Shard. No, God isn't famous for trickery, but it could be a play on the mystery part, while getting a trickster Shard, which would be awesome. I can see that being the Survival Shard, actually. The question is, how much will we bind ourselves to the Judeo/Christian God? For example, God doesn't hate much. He gets angry, yes, but not hatred. If Brandon didn't leave himself any wiggle room, he would have to name Odium Wrath or something. So, who's with me on Trickery?- 76 replies

Hoid will become the new Adonalsium
Toaster Retribution replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's a very interesting WoB, good work! -
Probably more, since half-ish of the Shards are still alive. We need more than four dead, or the numbers don´t add up. Odium hitting one or two more is not out of the question.

Willshaper material, in my opinion. If aimians can be KR that is. -
I´ll start this off with a disclaimer: I know there has been a lot of Hoid theories. What I am suggesting will probably be similar to what others have done. It might not even contain anything new at all. But I hope that you guys finds something worthwhile in here. So, here goes, my Hoid theory. The basic idea is as the title suggests. Hoid wants to reforge Adonalsium (which I know isn´t anything new) and he plans to be the Vessel of Adonalsium himself. Hoids Goal in Life We know that Hoid is travelling around the Cosmere. His complete agenda is unknown, but he seems to be gathering magic systems. He stole the Lerasium bead from the Well, and he has dropped a hint about having breaths. Through this, I draw the conclusion that Hoid is interested in gathering different magic systems for himself. Why would he want to do that, except for the fact that it is fun? Well, my theory is that Hoid hopes to be able to reforge Adonalsium, and that he plans to have himself as its vessel. He wishes to gather magic from the sixteen Shards in order to have Connection to all of them, which would make it easier for him to take them all up. As support, I have this WoB: I realize that the question is wether an entirely new Shard would be created, but Sandersons answer is that it is "related" to stuff that is happening. We don´t have anyone we know of with the knowledge, power or amount of magic, nor a sensible motive. Not anyone... except Hoid. Furthermore, Hoid hints at this goal himself, when speaking to Dalinar. He says this right after mentioning Adonalsium to Dalinar. I think that the gibberish words he speaks of are the Shards. They are parts of Adonalsium, cut up and dismembered, and now something similar to Adonalsium, but yet they are different (there are sixteen of them and they are supposedly a lot weaker than Adonalsium was). Then Hoid speaks about pulling a man apart and putting him back together. I think that the "put together" part is where Hoid hints at his goal. He wishes to put together a new Adonalsium, a better one probably. I also think that this theory is supported by his hatred towards Odium, and willingness to stop him. Odium wants to kill all the Shards, and splinter them, in order to be the most powerful thing in the Cosmere. If the Shards are splintered, Hoid will need to reforge them, which will be hard, and take time. He refers to the situation on Sel, with the splinters of Devotion and Dominion, as a mess. As long as Odium is alive, Hoids plans will be threatened. Why would Hoid want to do this? But what is Hoids motive then? Why is he doing this? Well, first I thought that he disagreed with the sixteen who shattered Adonalsium, but then I decided against that. I think Hoid encouraged the Shattering. Here is a part of the Letter, written by Frost (supposedly) to Hoid concerning Rayse. Of course, this could mean many things. But I think Frost talks about Rayse being the vessel of Odium, and that he considers that his own and Hoids fault. I agree. Hoid encouraged the Shattering, and encouraged Rayse to go after Adonalsium. He could have taken a Shard for himself, too: But he didn´t take a Shard, probably because he didn´t want to be consumed by an intent. This is where we reach the most speculation-heavy part: Hoid wanted a new Adonalsium all along. We know that the sixteen felt a dire need to shatter Adonalsium, so things can´t really have been awesome on Yolen before the Shattering. I think that Hoid found Adonalsium a bad ruler/god/whatever. But at the same time, he feels that there is a need for someone to rule the Cosmere. And he thinks that he himself will do the best job. Hoid manipulated the Vessels to shatter Adonalsium in order to be able to reforge it, and rule the Cosmere, and becoming a great king/god, which would benefit everyone. Okay. Thats it, basically. What do you guys think? Have you seen all this before? Do you agree/disagree? I´d love to hear thoughts, or see this be ripped apart. Either way, thanks for reading.

I feel like I have seen something about this somewhere, but I can´t find it. Anyone who has a WoB/knowledge on the subject? Did Hoid oppose the sixteen who Shattered Adonalsium?

I think it comes down to us having different preferences when it comes to characters. I disagree about Mraize not having any personality. He is ruthless (like Ialai), he is a hunter, who seems to judge people based on how capable they are. He can put on a likeable face, but is also completely okay with murder and torture. He seems confident, and has his pilosophy of understanding other cultures through learning their weapons. He has a generally badass air around him, and gives the impression of being part crime-boss, part worldhopper, part warrior, part politician, and part hunter. The mysterious air around him, and the cool name only adds to his character. I too like to read about characters whose personalities fascinate me. But Ialai doesn´t interest me much, just as Mraize doesn´t interest you. I would argue that none of them are void of personality. I would not have anything against Ialai becoming Highprince though, and I am interested in seeing what she is up too.
-
Ialai might be standing above Mraize, I won't protest against that. When it comes to gender, I agree about that the story is focused more on men than women. I do think that a character should be judged by more than their gender however. I personally feel that Mraize is a lot more intriguing than Ialai. He has a lot more stuff going on than she has, especially if she winds up not being a Ghostblood.
-
I really don't see why it would be. It would undermine the threat level of the Ghostbloods, and Ialai is not that interesting. Mraize can act as a cool non-Odium villain just as well, if not better than Ialai can.
-
She is supposed to be cunning though. I think she will take the Radiants seriously, she isn't stupid. That said, I don't think she will be an overarching villain or anything. I feel like Mraize is using her.

Tanavast, aka the vessel of the Shard Honor/the Almighty is not Hoid, nope. Tanavast bought Hoid a drink once, and is also dead. Taravangian, the king of Kharbranth, is not Hoid either. They are on two different places for the entire WoK, so it wouldn't work. Why do you ask? And also, welcome to the Shard!

Evil In The Stormlight Archive

Yup, he is. He is also sorry about feeling the need to kill Kaladins squad, and sell him as a slave. He discussed with Restares for hours because he found the decision so hard. So while he regrets letting Kaladin live, he also wishes that he didn't have to kill his men or sell him in the first place. -
I don't know if we have considered this before, or speculated much about its future? Can Nightblood die? What will happen to him? We mostly discuss his magic, but this is for his development and future story.

Evil In The Stormlight Archive

I feel like Amaram is pretty sympathetic though. He actively tries to be good to others, and unlike Sadeas, it isn't a facade in order to fool others. Yes, he isn't as honorable as he appears, but the fact that he feels guilt and conflict over his actions tells us that he wishes he could avoid it. I believe that Amaram geniunely wants to be good towards people, and he has monents when he shows kindness to those far beneath him in the social hierarchy. He is genuinely sorry for what he does towards Kaladin too. I read Amaram as a fascinating, conflicted and ultimately well-meaning character, which is one of the reasons for why I like him.
