The Official Thread of Relationships

Note to self: never carry gasoline around @Orlion Determined. Also, I'm pretty sure you'd need trace or ignition ammunition to actually make anything explode by shooting it. -
Peridot: " Hour 78 of Camp Pining Hearts." xD That whole sequence with the Camp Pining Hearts is hilarious. Tomorrow I'll resume watching season 3. I want more Greg flashbacks.
-
78th episode of Steven Universe closes the second season. I was literally crying of laughter. That moment when Peridot makes a shipping chart... priceless!
-
Do we actually know this? I mean... has anyone on Scadrial actually conducted experiments on what happens when you shoot the exact same spot with the exactly same force with the exactly same angle and so on? IIRC Wayne commented in BoM about 'probable' deflections. In the grave with Marasi, I think. So it would mean it's not exactly random.

We also offer welcome chouta.

It's 'Sharders'. Can I interest you in a welcome cookie?

I'm changing the question so that splitting the spike takes place in a bathtub full of blood. Now every edge will be covered by blood at any given time. More questions: Could an Elantrian make a typewriter but with Aons instead of letters? Would typing on that Aonwriter produce effects as drawing Aons does? Would drawing Aons in Paint qualify for AonDor?
-
That's not what the question is about We know that "spikes which are physically broken into several pieces will split the charge into the broken pieces, and more Hemalurgic power will be lost when spikes are split". So apart from the fragmentation there is additional loss of power. However, we know that covering the spike in blood stops the Hemalurgic decay (we do not know the details but it's a working method). The question is what happens when you do both of these things?
-
If a spike was covered in blood - stopping the Hemalurgic decay - and then split into smaller spikes, would there be power loss or not? EDIT: Let's say the splitting took place in a bathtub full of blood, so that the spikes would be covered in blood at all times.

It's quite old, but has anyone seen it? When the scene changes, the part of the subtitles is obscured. It says "Let's go _". Next part is also obsured and it says "Come on then, _"

Blood of Elves, huh? Did you by any chance read the Witcher short stories? They are good on their own (some say they are better than the Witcher pentalogy) and chronologically take place before the Witcher pentalogy. And they provide context and backstory. I strongly recommend to read short stories first. First The Last Wish, then Sword Of Destiny, and then you can jump straight into Blood of Elves and subsequent books.

Feruchemical grouping in regard to Hemalurgy
Oversleep replied to Oversleep's question in Cosmere Q&A
Still, it's noncanon as it comes from MAG... and even if it were canon, it says gold steals Physical Feruchemy (not Hybrid as you said) which already is a function of pewter spikes. I have a very hard time believing there are two spikes which work exactly the same way. And there are no WoBs supporting that. I already accepted coppermind to be a little untrustworthy, so we need either book reference, WoB or annotation. MAG is noncanon. -
Feruchemical grouping in regard to Hemalurgy
Oversleep replied to Oversleep's question in Cosmere Q&A
The thing is we have it confirmed (as I sourced in the originial post) that Feruchemical gold is stolen by pewter spikes. And I don't recall any WoBs about spikes stealing electrum, cadmium or bendalloy. I have literally no idea where that Hemalurgic property of gold is coming from, as it is not sourced and entry for gold states it is not known what does it steal. The only thing on coppermind about that is the page for Hemalurgy you linked and it has no sources whatsoever. And if it comes from MAG, it's noncanon (but it is not sourced to MAG). -
It seems I forgot various details and because of that I was under impression that for a group of four metals two steal human attributes, one steals Allomantic powers tied to metals in this group and one steals Feruchemical powers tied to metals in this group. It would work like that: tin and iron steal human attributes, while steel/pewter spikes steal Allomantic/Feruchemical powers of iron, steel, tin and pewter. This is clearly not the case. We know that since pewter steal Physical Feruchemical powers, it can also steal Feruchemical gold. (HoA epigraphs number 36 AND a WoB). But... many of the Feruchemical powers are Physical... how does that work? How are Feruchemical metals grouped? Which spikes steal which powers? Metal/Feruchemical power/Spike type Iron: Weight - Physical attribute : Pewter spike (probably) Steel: Physical speed - Physical attribute : Pewter spike (confirmed - Inquisitors had this power) Tin: Senses - Physical attribute : Pewter spike (probably) Pewter: Strength - Physical attribute : Pewter spike (confirmed - Inquisitors had this power) Zinc: Mental speed - Mental attribute : Brass spike (speculation) Brass: Warmth - Physical attribute : Pewter spike (speculation) Copper: Memories - Mental attribute : Brass spike (speculation) Bronze: Wakefulness - no idea. It can be both physical and mental. Probably mental, it'd fit nicely and complete mental attributes. Cadmium: Breath - Physical attribute : Pewter spike (speculation) Bendalloy: Nutrition - Physical attribute : Pewter spike (speculation) Gold: Health - Physical attribute : Pewter spike (confirmed - Inquisitors had this power + epigraphs + WoB) Electrum: Determination - Mental attribute : Brass spike (speculation) Those four are clearly Spiritual powers, so we don't know what spike to use: Chromium: Fortune Nicrosil: Investiture Aluminum: Identity Duraluminum: Connection So it seems that all of base metals Feruchemy is covered by three spikes (Physical powers, Mental powers, Spiritual powers). But going off what we know about Hemalurgy, there is bound to be four spikes of base sixteen stealing Feruchemical powers... EDIT: The question is: can Feruchemical powers even be grouped properly into four even groupings? Especially considering the fact that 'Hybrid' powers are in fact Physical powers and that one of them, Feruchemical gold is stolen by a pewter spike which makes it a Physical power?

The Official Thread of Relationships
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Popculture lies. That is not to say there is no truth in it, but it never is as described. EDIT: Ninja'd by Kaymyth. If there are bars or places where you can play board games or card games, you know the drill, it's easier to meet people when somebody is looking for another person to play and stuff like that. Or if you're sitting with a group, you can always invite somebody who is not playing at the -
In the prologue to the Hero Of Ages, Marsh is using a brass spike when spiking the Keeper. Why brass? It would allow to steal only Feruchemical Mental powers and none of them seem particularly important to killing machines the Inquisitors are. Surely Feruchemical healing, or speed, or strength or even age would be more desirable power to steal?
-
That's... actually reasonable. I just wonder if humans have something built-in against pointing weapons at their head; I can see it being easier to co through with cutting your hand (as probably your hand was already injured in various accidents, e.g. kitchen) than your face.

Stormlight and Nicrosilminds [BoM, Stormlight Archive, and Warbreaker Spoilers]
Oversleep replied to Bladex454's question in Cosmere Q&A
Hm... mind sourcing? Then what does Nicrosil store - every Investiture or only Innate Investiture? I was under impression it can store the Investiture from your soul (after all, it is a Spiritual metal). Could you burn a metal and store the Investiture your obtaining from it?- 9 replies

You want wikipedia or are you ready to dive into TVTropes? The briefcase in Pulp Fiction is a good example, as it's only role is to be important for Julies and Vince. In heist stories, the Mac Guffin is the object being stolen - it doesn't matter what that is. If it's interchangeable, it's Mac Guffin. Horcruxes are not Mac Guffins, since they're actually important. Obviously, I have not been reading the conversation about Civil War, but I really liked that list of popculture to catch up to Steve had in the Winter Soldier.

Perhaps they need more blood than a small cut on the thumb could provide. On the other hand, when only a little blood is needed cutting the tumb is a good idea (summoning in Naruto comes to mind). Isn't cutting your forearm kind of dangerous? I mean, all the veins and arteries - there is a reason why it's a go to place for suicide by bleeding out. Also, speaking from experience (no, I was not attempting suicide - the glass window in the doors I pushed was not very good and my arm just went through it) forearm bleeds quite a lot. And it's hard to stop the bleeding. It seems that hand wound is easier to stop the bleeding, but I'm not sure about that.

Where to they get more Parshmen from?
Oversleep replied to cadebengert's topic in Stormlight Archive
Part of the problem are multiple threads on the same topic. It's hard to find information you're looking for if there are four threads about the same thing. That's why searching for information instead of creating new topic is so important. On the other hand, that's a very good source of drama. Imagine what a character would feel when forced to kill a child Voidbringer. -
Sigh. I need to finally watch Civil War.

I actually have an answer for question concerning life, universe and everything. 42. Now, for something completely different: type in google "how high a fall can cats survive".
