Also, Progress = Cultivation.
-
All Nahel bond spren are a mixture of Honor's and Cultivation's Investiture. There is a WoB about this, somebody was trying to get percentages. Also, the progress of the Surgebinder is quite unique, as no other magic system has something what actually is leveling. The way you level is though by swearing Oaths. Another thing is that Nahel bond is a symbiosis. It's very Cultivationy to me.

Right. Haven't thought about that. It's actually better, because it won't be so storming OP. Still, flesh won't be much a problem, but that's OK.

Yeah, I did - it's also in one of the links @Doctor12 posted. That specific sword is magical - the constant influx of Investiture magic keeps it whole. And it's being constantly sharpened when drawn - the angles are altered by a spell. So I hope it will slice things just like a hot knife through butter. There are things that can resist that sword, but they are all almost exlusively in hands of other mages. So if the character in question decides to slice a tank in half, he will be able to. Of course, I didn't say nothing about him surviving the encounter, as usually approaching a tank by yourself is a very bad idea, magical swords or not...

I found two confliciting WoBs about who can perform Hemalurgy: This one is from 2015: Any WoBs I missed on this? EDIT: And this one is from 16/02/2016: So I think it pretty much confirms that anyone can use Hemalurgy.

I found a WoB that proves me right about other parts of the soul being stealable:

Yeah, things like that (I've already read those you linked, though). But I'd really could use some scientific article. Even a physics coursebook. There's a paper linked in the first link, but I'm not getting much out of it. If anyone wants to know why I'm interested in that topic: one of my characters have a blade with edges which angles are infinitely close to zero. At first I thought it would work like lightsaber/Shardblade, but then I realized I don't know how blades work in the first place.

I know this meme is 3 months old, but it's just pure gold.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

What kind of trip we're talking about? Few days or more like a month or months? Because those are totally different trips. -
You mean you just seen it for the first time? Wasn't it like everywhere few years ago? Did you... did you make it rhyme deliberately?

I've seen many people assume that with the Survivor's/Sovereign's Spearhead avalaible it's possible to reproduce it or any medallion. I think it's wrong. Why? While we do not know how medallions work (with them being usable by anyone and not just Soulbearers), it's fairly certain that they are unkeyed nicrosilminds. So medallion-maker stores one of his abilities by using Feruchemical nicrosil. But he has to make it unkeyed! So he has to have no Identity at the moment. As far as we know, it's possible by storing aluminum 100%. Conclusion: It's impossible to create an unkeyed nicrosilmind containing Feruchemical aluminum as Feruchemical aluminum has to be avalaible to make the metalmind unkeyed in the first place. It means that there cannot be a medallion granting Feruchemical aluminum. By extension, the SSpearhead does not contain that ability. So to make more medallions, we need Trueselfs and give them the SSpearhead.

A random idea for somebody to use: Basically, you'd have to have at least three different factions and at least two of them at odds with each other. Let's keep it simple and name them Red, Green and Blue. Green and Blue doesn not get along. It works for superheros factions, secret agents, mage societies et cetera. Our protagonist, a member of Red comes home. Perhaps he's back from something that needed his attention. Either he does something which causes this discovery or already finds his parents trying to murder each other upon discovery that they're Green and Blue, respectively. From that point it can go many ways. He can choose to reveal himself or not. He can try to stop them, talk some sense into them or just be too shocked and just stands there. His parents may be talked down as it was just a natural reaction and they decide they can live with it or maybe they'll part and try to kill each other later. It can be additionaly complicated with how much Green and Blue don't like each other. Is it just some friction between factions, are they enemies, are they natural enemies, mortal life-sworn enemies or maybe even literally opposing forces with bloody conflict going back thousands of years back? Are Green and Blue aware of existence of Red? If they are, what are their relations to Red? Are they the same or different? The list goes on. ------------ Soulsmiths: I've been thinking some about the whole armor/weapon thing, but no final conclusions yet. Meanwhile, I realized that when I was balancing Angle's powerset I left him with little offensive powers. Right now his only attack option is comparable to drawing Nightblood. I need to think of a way to use his ability offensively. He can't just use projectiles as they'd have to be similarly nerfed as the sword (although projectiles are interesting given the fact his ability grants natural understanding and control over the angles. He could be a Deadshot). I thought he could break bones by altering the angles of the limbs but it runs straight into the reason I purposefully weakened telekinesis. Because you can't just tear people apart.

I reread that Interlude. Yeah, she was doing math, but we learned nothing about the math itself. Physicist also do a lot of math and that's what she was doing. I mean, measuring (super)natural phenomena is always gonna be physics. We learned nothing about how far their math progressed. Does Roshar know calculus? Statistics? How advanced their geometry is? Et cetera. Another question (Man, I am pumping them out fast): What does count for Hemalurgic control? The total Hemalurgic charge or number of the spikes? If we let four spikes decay for a few years and then pierce a human with it, would that person be controllable? (I assume that four spikes is the minimum for a human being controlled as evidenced by koloss and Suit's words that he's limited to three boons). Does that work the same for all Hemalurgic constructs? What does count for kandra Blessings? Similarly, if we had two spikes and let them decay for few years, would that be enough to turn a mistwraith into kandra?

No, I'm looking for sharpness of blades. Like, how does knife work? I mean physics behind those things. What is the difference between a dull blade and a sharp one? Why do we serrate blades and how does that work? What are the factors building up the sharpness variable? Is it the angle or width or some properties of material or what?
-
It sets precedent for another Interlude like that. Sadly, they do not talk about math at all. They were doing physics and it seems Roshar has experimentation method, but I'd really want to know how far their math is.

Searching the internet for what "sharpness" is on 3:15 am. It's related to my worldbuiling. Sadly, the internet is unhelpful

@Eccentric Hero, Fullborn is a Mistborn + Full Feruchemist. @Mason Wheeler, because he made the Spearhead which nicrosilmind contained (presumably) all basic Allomantic and Feruchemical powers. (I am not sure that you could make an unkeyed nicrosilmind with Feruchemical aluminum)
-
Yet another question: How far has Roshar's science advanced? For example, mathematics, what do they have? Any chance of some ardents talking about math? In some Interlude maybe? It doesn't have to be someone mentioning calculus or anything, but... Or perhaps PoV of stormwarden so we'd learn more about predicting highstorms?
-
@galendo, the fact that Rosharans may not have required tools to make precise calculations do not mean that they are not needed. BTW, we don't even know how far science has advanced on Roshar because of all that Investiture flying around and magitech. And spren. So we don't get to see clever engineering or anything because "SOULCASTERS!" and stuff. If we go by Earth analogue... and assuming wikipedia to be right on History of Mathematics... I think Rosharans may be quite advanced. Trigonometry was known in some regions well before Christ and some touched upon calculus. I think I want more ardentia Interludes. Just for math.

How would atium Feruchemy work for an Elantrian or somebody with Fifth Heightening - for somebody who does not age? Would it work based on their physical or true (spiritual) age? If I obtained enough Breath at the age of 20 and then lived for 300 years, would the amount of youth I need to be 19 be equal to the amount of youth a true 20yr old need?

Action movies, but those with high amount of explosions / com. What's next?

Screamcom. Splattercom is a slasher/comedy.

Okay, we all already know the huge twists: the Sovereing of the Southeners is Kelsier who is a Fullborn. We know he appeared to Spook by Hemalurgy and they were doing experiments (as evidenced by existence of Spook's book). Now, what are Kelsier's intentions? What is his endgame? Back when he was first alive, he wanted to overthrow the Empire. He succeeded. Now what? From Secret History we learned he wanted to learn about Hemalurgy. We don't know whether that interest still holds as he's back corporeal with a spike through his eye. It could be, it could not be. We don't know what else he did put in motion with Spook. Although not much time could have passed between Katacendre and his apperance to Spook and his arrival to the South, otherwise all of Southeners would had frozen to death. From Bands of Mourning we know that he went and saved a whole hemisphere full of people - but most of the people would probably do that with power of a Fullborn on their hands. That's a noble goal, nontheless, but what are his goals after all this? After he saved them, shown them the medallions (curious... how did he figure it out?), made himself a god of a yet another group of people, built a temple in the North (to encourage Southeners to visit Northern hemisphere) and vanished. Why did he leave the Survivor's Spearhead there? Probably to kickstart a planet-wide production of Fullborn medallions. I am not buying that he left it for himself, as Southern legends imply. What would he need the Spearhead for anyway? Now that he set those things in motion, he had a lot of time to mind his own business. That is if he obtained some atium to Compound youth - but I guess Marsh would share. So... where is he, what is he doing and why? He could have even worldhopped, as he is cosmere-aware due to the events in Secret History. That is, if he learned how to step into Cognitive fully.

I just remembered correct person All hail and glory should go to @Cheese Ninja and @WeiryWriter. Also, I'll be followint that thread since the highstorm pattern interested me for a long, long time. I just don't have the necessary math knowledge to work it out, although I think (I hope :P) I'll be able to follow your thoughts, @hwiles.

I recall someone making a detailed, day by day timeline for WoR with highstorms marked. I can't remember who it was, though... perhaps @WeiryWriter?
