  1. That is pretty awesome.

  2. Hey, when you finish check to see if any of us are still in the chatroom, we want to congratulate you!

  3. So, shivertongue, I was messing around on the awards page just now and noticed something- did you really give yourself the "Dedicated" Award? Twice?

  4. I would like to announce that this is scary... And life ruining. Won't post the picture, because that would affect you innocent people who didn't mean to see it. Mal will never be seen the same way again.
  5. Totally serious, deadly important question. Is scalzibane really a hemalurgic spike disguised as a pen? I'm onto you, Brandon...
  6. You can put multple abilities etc., why not multiple races? Maybe Wax as Noble, Terrisman and Wayne as Terrisman?
  7. Hey, do Wax and Wayne count as Terrisman? They are at least part-terris...
  8. I am not really artistically inclined, but I really respect those who are. There are some really nice pieces in the gallery, can there be a fanart award for the way cool people who do that stuff?
  9. Yes, yes it was. Thank you, and you are a decent person for recognizing it. Also, those witnessing the series of events would know this, as it was among a plethora of other homestarruner.com quotes. Chaos just took advatage of the oppurtunity as it presented itself, as any sesible individual can and should. Yeah, not neccesarily. He is the one who introduced me to Brandon's work- he knew about him way before I did, I just got more caught up in the world. And I am fairly certain he has read it more than twice, and this is the first time he has gone looking for theories and stuff. Hopefully college/work won't catch him too hard right now so he can get decently entrenched/invested before something pulls him away...
  10. What is Brandon's favorite color?
  11. I would like to announce that I just got this text from my brother Hahaha, maybe I can subvert him to our ways!
  12. Hey, cool cool! Are you gonna be there still in July? Also, do you like Dan Wells? Because I am definitely going to his signing then. *shrug*
  13. • What does a new member need to know in order to really fit in with this community? Really you just need to post a couple times. The theory board is always cool, but I rather feel I fit in and I might have two or three posts on the theory boards . Just jump in on a discussion (of waffles, if they take you fancy. There is likely to be one going on) or something. I will say that you might want to look around for some of the little memes and things, so that you can tease the staff/admins in the chatroom, but... *shrug* If nothing else, welcome those newer than you to the boards! Most of my posts are probably either welcoming or on the "I would like to announce" thread. OOOOOOOOOOhhh just thought of something else- go to the chatroom, make your presence known and say hi to all the cool people that hang out there. That is one of the best ways to CAW learn about the inside jokes as well, if someone says something you don't understand, then Ask and ye shall receive the answer. • What is a common mistake that new group members often make? I am still relatively new myself. Probably lurking, letting their confusedness about the shards, cosmere, etc. keep them from posting. Everyone here is pretty awesome and would love to tell you anything you need to know, or if you are too intimdated to ask, chances are someone may have asked before so a quick search will prolly yield great results. • Has the community helped you through a tough or emotional time? I wouldn't say that... I've only been an active member for about a month and a half, so nothing big has come up. That said, even with the little stuff, these people are great. Sweetness offered to beat up Temple Run (a phone game, if you don't know) for me when it was being annoying • Is there a specific event/post/moment where you felt like you had transitioned from noob to accepted member? (hopefully spikes weren’t involved…) Spikes were involved, but it generally took the form of me joking about spikes, so... . Probably the first night the chatroom went live, I was up to the point where I got a grand total of twenty minutes of sleep because I had so much fun hanging out with Chaos and Sweetness. I haven't done anything *quite* that insane again, and have made sure to get at least an hour ( ) of sleep ever since, but still- ever since I am hanging in the chatroom pretty much 24/7. it isn't like government or chem two are that important. • Tell me about your favorite meme or inside joke from the 17th Shard. (For instance… what’s with the waffles?) My favorite 'thing' is the REDACTED one I had a hand in creating. See, it was really late on the evening/morning of the REDACTED and REDACTED was being a REDACTED so REDACTED and I started calling REDACTED a REDACTED REDACTED. also, more recently I have become enamored with lolspren and squeespren and wootspren, etc. I believe they are all canonical. Hmmm... eero's femininity has always amused me. Also, don't believe Chaos' recent I would like to announce post. He makes stuff up. Probably. Maybe. As far as you know. • Is there anything you think I should know about this great community that I haven’t asked about? ummmmmmmmm if I think of something later I'll edit this post.
  14. Oh yeah, I know. I'm not going to BYU solely because Brandon teaches there- I promise . I've wanted to go there since I was a kid, when I found out Brandon taught there it just made me all the more excited about it . And trust me, I've been watching the lectures...
  15. Y'know, I really want to downvote this, but... but.. you are at 300. That is too perfect to mess up. EDIT:Haha! I'll just upvote you somewhere else, then downvote you here.
  16. It is prolly odd to necro my own intro thread, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to put this, and it is cool, so...... *shrug* So.. this is why my friends call me Brandon Stalkerson. I am in Academic Decathlon, and as a part of that I had to write a 3 and a half to four minute speech... on anything we wanted. My coach recommended we talk about something that we were passionate about, so I chose writing. This is my speech. On Tuesday November 15, 2011, about four months ago, my life changed! After a few weeks of vehement persuasion, I finally convinced my parents to drive me to Houston to attend a Q/A and signing event for Brandon Sanderson, the author of some of the best books I have ever read and teacher of creative writing at Brigham Young University- my dream college. I was thrilled, ecstatic even! Several rather incriminating facebook posts stand as testament to my total gush-i-ness. The next few days I ran around showing everyone I made eye contact with my freshly signed books, nook, and the coolest picture ever beheld by human eyes: a shot of me, standing next to Brandon Sanderson while he is holding a sharpie to MY BOOK! As of 1:30 a.m. that evening after a five hour drive home, this picture is my profile picture, nook screensaver and phone background. While I do realize my reaction may seem a tad extreme, everyone I showed my treasure to saw it, said, “Oh, cool” and moved on. No one understood how truly giddy my experience made me. One of my oldest friends saw my nook, gave me an odd glance, and said, “Well, I could see maybe if he was hot”, before changing the subject. I don’t quite have the time to give you a book report, but what Brandon Sanderson is known for best are his incredibly logical magic systems. For example, in his Mistborn series there is a system wherein some people, determined largely by lineage, are able to metabolize or “burn” ingested metals, enhancing or enabling abilities. Burning iron, for instance, allows you to “pull” against anything metallic, pulling it to you if it is lighter than you are, and pulling you to it if it is heavier. Its alloy and companion metal, steel, does the opposite and “pushes” against metal. The science of the magic system, odd as that phrase sounds, is intriguing and allows for laws that limit it, keeping the story interesting and letting you understand how it works. Since 2006, Brandon Sanderson has written 11 books. Since the end of summer, I have read those 5,116 pages in addition to 13 other books. I read between 80-100 books a year. I love reading; some of my most cherished memories are from when I was four years old and I crawled up on my big sisters Stacy’s bed, listening as she read me Harry Potter. I am rabid for all well written books, but fantasy is my home. I love fantasy because I never quite know what I am getting myself into. Every time I crack open a new book, I am thrust into a new world. I let go of everything and immerse myself in the characters head. Now, I said earlier “my life changed” when I met Brandon Sanderson. I don’t say this because I am just some rabid, insane fangirl; I say it because he is my role model. All my life I have wanted to be able to do what I’ve enjoyed partaking of since I was a kid! I’ve always wanted to be an author, wanted to be able to share with the world the ideas that bounce around in my head - the places I imagine, I just never thought I could possibly be as good as those authors whose books I held dear- until I met Brandon. Our brief conversation went something like this: “So, I hope to see you around BYU in a couple years.” “Oh really, you’re going to the Y?” “Hopefully”, “Well you should take my class!” he smiled “Definitely!” I reluctantly shuffled out of line cradling my newfound validation. You are probably wondering if I am all just talk, if this is some unrealizable dream. It isn’t. Since that day, I have compiled the random plot ideas that pop into my head in my journal. I have written four short stories… I am a writer. I’m not a professional yet, but I’m working on it. So, about 10 years from now, go to the bestselling fantasy section of your local bookstore, look up Weatherston, Alyssa and buy my book. I’ll even sign it for you.
  17. Huh... good point.
  18. Any time! Though if you haven't already, you might want to post a thread in the "Introduce Yourself" page so that the rest of us can say hi.
  19. Hey, I'd check this thread out. Also, if I haven't already said hi, welcome to the forums!
  20. One of my Youth Leaders is an author, but she writes in the LDS market. Also, it is LDS romance, so... Not really my thing. Still kinda cool though, she knows some of the other authors that I think are awesome. Also, one of her books is among the few romance books I can tolerate- a high commendation.
  21. There should definitely be a chatroom award, for the way awesome cool people that spend a ridiculous amount of time during the day and/or early hours of the morning participating in the amazing discussions in the chatroom. ....I don't have any ulterior motives for proposing this
  22. Hey, so turns out I misremembered the name. Here are amazon links to both of card's books on writing though: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/158297103X And here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1599632128/ref=mp_bxgy_p_dp_y
  23. Bonjour! Ballet....Buffet...Baguette... I am out. Apparently I only know b words that may or may not be French Anyway, welcome to the website, we are glad to have you! I hope you enjoy your time here. You might want to be wary of our administrators though, they have a bad habit of practicing Hemalurgy on members of the site
  24. Haha! That is awesome, I hadn't noticed it before . Just looked for it, it is in book 4 (page 124 with the version I have). Alcatraz is win.
  25. And we are glad to have you! Welcome to the forums. So have you read all of Brandon's books? If not, you might want to be cautious of the General Theories board, spoilers abound I hope you enjoy your time here, and keep an eye on the admins, they often practice hemalurgy, so they have spikes
