  1. Can't help you with the shipping (live in Texas), but I have been wanting to get my hands on some German Sanderson books. I'm in my third year of it in high school and really want to expand my vocabulary over the summer.
  2. I'm worried about the possible Moraine/Kelsier match up... a HUGE majority of Sanderson fans found him *through* WoT, so no telling which way it would go.
  3. Brandon talks rather quickly For the most part I've been doing a straight transcription. I cut out "um"s, but... *shrug* He also says "and things like this" and "Y'know" a lot.
  4. Just finished. I have time to burn, might as well hit the Atomic Array one too
  5. I can get started on Eye on books tonight. Do we want introduction too? *edit* I'll hit the Warbeaker one while I'm at it.
  6. Whoah! Never thought of that!. Dunno if it'd work, but... That is a nifty line of inquiry!
  7. I would like to annouunceee that I just purchased the Nookbook for The Way of Kings, despite the fact that I already have the paperback, hardcover, and audiobook. I am pathetic. "Why?" you may ask? So that it is searchable. Much easier to look quotes/info up. Now I just need all of Mistborn on e-book...
  8. Agreed. It was a great book- I was sold on it from the minute I went to Mr. Wells' reading of it at LTUE. <---where this cool picture was taken with him I bought it the night it came out (on my Nook) and then I participated in his book bomb on amazon (bought the hardcover). I definitely recommend it. It does have a lot of science-y explanations, which bugged some people, but I thought it was really interesting. Erm... yeah. Good book.
  9. Welcome to the forum! Watch out for spikes I got into BS's stuff when my big brother (who is a WOT fan) got me to read Brandon's books. Joshua had read them all, and after I devoured them last summer I kept trying to talk to him about them. But Joshua doesn't really enjoy speculating about books the way I do, and I'd heard in a couple interviews (or maybe it was on Writing Excuses or something) that 17th shard was Mr, Sanderson's fansite. I googled and joined in December, but didn't really become active until... last week or so. Now I have no idea why I waited so long! Haven't actually read WoT, planning my read-through to begin in the fall so I can finish in time for the release!
  10. Wow.. round two is fairly amusing. I bet it is kind of hard to write an Allomantic battle if you haven't read the book, but still, I was laughing straight through it. The comments section gets a little cat-fighty, though. http://sf-fantasy.suvudu.com/2012/03/cage-match-2012-round-2-kelsier-versus-chess-putnam.html and Moraine is here: http://sf-fantasy.suvudu.com/2012/03/cage-match-2012-round-2-moiraine-damodred-versus-the-dagda-mor.html with a nice Mistborn reference
  11. I just finished Wake Me When It's Over and The Counterfeit by Robison Wells- I had read his new book and was curious about his older stuff, so ordered them on Amazon. The first one is pretty hilarious. (Btw, the above are LDS fiction) Currently reading Matched by Ally Condie, because my friend reccomended it. I am still unsure of my feelings on this one. Tomorrow is the official start of my spring break, and I plan on devouring *minimum* a book a day, want to get some fantasy in. I've been reading too much other stuff , I need my fix. Any suggestions?
  12. Lol, yeah! It was on the First Five Seasons cd (which I just happen to have loaded in its entirety on my phone) Writing Excuuses season two episode 632: Now that we have Time Travel, what do we do with it?
  13. I think I mentioned this is my first post, but I didn't have the theory fleshed out yet, so here goes: The KR were being used for menial wars, killing pointlessly. I figure they adopted a "just in case" attitude- they were fairly certain the desolations were over because the heralds had told them as such, but they stayed a unit for a few years** anyway. Eventually, they got tired of it. They knew their honor would not allow them to continue useless slaughter, but at the same time it wouldn't allow them to completely abandon the people they once strove to protect. (this is the quote right? No time to look up)They could not allow themselves to stoop to the level of ordinary men, so they decided to leave them the tools to defend themselves instead. The KR probably knew that the men would slaughter each other with the Shardplate/blade, but these men were so lacking in honor that they would have done that eventually anyway. **unspecfified amount of time Still needs a bit of work, but...
  14. Hang on a second. If it *is* Gavilar, why does he have an accent?
  15. Got it Yeah, this one mentions rock again, but I'm fairly certain that it is just a handy pedestal. If you place if purposefully/will it to stay there, it won't go into the spirit realm. All you have to do to give it to someone else is not drop it on accident.
  16. Not sure the stone specifically has anything to do with it. Dalinar/other bearers seemed to have the impression that it would stay if you wanted it to, though I suppose it could be something they don't understand.
  17. I fell in love with reading before I could read! When I was four (and probably earlier, too, I just can't remember) my sister, who is abt 14 years older than me, would read me and my brothers Harry Potter at night when we were supposed to go to bed. It was kinda funny, actually, because when Mom would tell us it was bed time we would *very discreetly* (read obviously) whisper "HP factor", our code word for the outlawed action. Ever since then, I have never been seen without a book at hand. Fantasy drew me in through LOTR (epic fantasy, that is, my first fantasy was obviously HP), I was young enough to have seen the first movie when I was six or seven, so I experienced those first. Then, as others have mentioned, my 5th grade teacher had us read Narnia, but by then I was alredy well versed in the genre. I dove headfirst into *every* book I could find, but that exhilaration of being thrust into an entirely new world every time you crack open another book is... amazing. I can't find it anywhere else
  18. What exactly is our policy on editing? I am terrible at summarizing, so I don't feel I'm the optimal choice to write up new articles. I figured I could still contribute by doing things like editing for readability/grammar. What are the guidelines? Are there courtesies I should be aware of? I just recently started being a contributing member of 17th shard and, while there doesn't seem to be much in the way of strict rules, I don't want to step on any toes
  19. I take issue with the "thrill comes from shardplate" theory. Kid-kal feels the thrill when he is fighting with a quarterstaff. However, I do like the idea that the KR stopped because they were being used for menial wars. No book backup, but it seems logical that they were tired of fighting without meaning, though that brings up the question of why they didn't take blade and plate with them. Maybe they didn't want to leave them defenseless?
  20. I would like to announce that in less than a day after I started being an active member, I am an awakener. I'm also going to assuse that that is spiffy and awesome.
  21. Probably a good point... I can read incredibly fast, like WoK in a weekend fast, but I don't know how long I can keep up that rate. Can't say I've tried reding thirteen epics in a row. Burnout is a possiblity too. Yeah, I'll prolly start in fall and allow myself a couple breather books interspersed. Plus school :/
  22. WoT is the seriies that has been on my to-read list for forever. When it was going to be released this fall I was planning on reading the series over the summer.... Maybe I'll start winter break now?
  23. Well we know dan wells is a cylon...
  24. Hey, sorry, new to the boards or I'd have mentioned that I was going. By the way, you didn't miss much. He gave one copy away at his reading, after giving away an ARC of Partials... I didn't ask, but he certainly didn't broadcast that he'd be selling them. (because I like Dan's books and Dan as a person, met him at *LTUE* and because I'm an aspiring author) I follow him too, for all the same reasons!
  25. While I was at LTUE, I went to a panel Dan Wells was on and he mentioned someone in the series was Mormon. I asked him who when I got him to sign stuff, but he wouldn't tell me! Any ideas? This section of the site seems a tad less active I'll have to work on that.
