  1. Thought- I like it. It is evocative, kickstarts the imagination. A bit morbid, and I do expect there to have been a battle and it be winter, but... Those are my expectations. It sets the stage for a rather grim story, but... I like grim stories, so unless the rest of the page is butterflies and bunnies it is good. As for the white room syndrome, that sentence evokes in me an empty field, the snow a blanket covering the odd shapes of twisted corpses. And wow, that was dark. Also, I don't think the dead/snow are explicitly in my expectations. The snow just sets the scene, and the dead are only as important as they are to your vieewpoint character.
  2. Nah, it was in one of the chapter bumps. I remember reading it.
  3. I would like to announce that I am sick. Which is kind of annoying... I can only whisper, because if I attempt to utilize my vocal cords then I am filled with a searing pain. *sigh* *ouch* On the other hand, that means today I don't need to traverse the halls of my inane highschool Edit a few hours later: I would like to announce that I am using my copious spare time to edit the wiki. Also, I should not be doing this- I search for a name on my nook, go to the page the name is on, and read back to get some context. Then I keep reading. And keep reading. *sigh* Brandon, why do you have to be such a good author?
  4. Haha, I am in the same boat. I am loaning my copies out to friends, but with only one set (and a few slow readers) it is slow going. Also, I am fairly certain they don't want to theorize about "Stalkerson" (what they all call Brandon, because for a while I always had a sanderson book on me and I know a lot of random crud about the authors I like)'s universe. My brother reads the books and *loved* WoK, but he thinks the cosmere is silly. Sigh. So which books have you read?
  5. I dunno, carapace shardplate seems a little... Different. And also, Radiants come from all over... There was certainly no mention of swirly skin in Dalinar's visit to the past. I don't think being a Radiant changes you physically all that much, just gives you way cool powers. Kal is on the road to becoming one, and there are *no* physical changes to him (other than the glowy thing, but that is something else entirely:P)
  6. Also, he didn't want mistings/mistborn he couldn't keep track of running around... I mean, after all- look where *that* got him
  7. I remember why I said that maybe when Honorspren etc. lost their awareness when Honor died-someone on the IRC was proposing that Honor is reforming. That would certainly be cool and explain why the spren are regaining awareness. Of course, we don't even know if shards *can* be healed, or the process
  8. Hey, welcome! We are glad to have you! I too have always wanted to work in a bookstore, B&N/Half-Price here only hires 18+, though, and we don't have any indie bookstores... Anywho, hope you enjoy yourself Bronzy. By the way, how did you hear about 17th shard?
  9. Hmmm... That brought up a thought that is probably completely non-sensical. So, Honor is splintered into Honorspren, etc, and when they lose/lost awareness and became like the other random spren, he 'died'. Meh. I dunno.
  10. Honestly, the most helpful thing to me is just listening to them talk. Even the random ridiculous episodes or the After Dark ones (actually, especially those), because it makes me realize that these amazing artists aren't things to put up on a pedestal, they are living, breathing people, with lives and friends and connections. And it isn't even just hearing the mistakes in their early work, it is being able to hear them interact like... Like normal people. And Tulir, here ya go!
  11. And Windrunner, Peter said here it would record to youtube. (sorry for double post)
  12. Hey, by the way, it is webchat.freenoDe.net. Thanks for the info, though!
  13. I would like to announce that I just made French Toast with donuts. They are made of win (well, actually, donuts, eggs, and blueberry preserves as syrup. But you get the point). Also, dang I'm a good cook
  14. Yeah, in my experience mac (or at least itunes) is a lot more control-freaky about how you do things.
  15. Hey there- welcome to the forums! Always glad to have another co-conspirator If you don't mind my asking, what genre do you write in most? And btw, watch out for the admins, they spike people
  16. First of all, I'd plug Writing Excuses, which you probably already know about, but just in case... It is a podcast on writiing brandon does with three other brilliant authors. I haven't personally read any, but on the 'cast they have mentioned a few: Orson Scott Card wrote "On Writing", and he is a really good author. Hmmm, can't think of any more this moment, but I'll come back if I do think of them. Also, this isn't a book, but I've seen a few of these that interest me: David Farland/Wolverton has a website that he updates every day with a mini entry on one subject, such as characterization, action in scenes, setting, viewpoint, and so on. Here is Writing Excuses And here isDavid Farland's Writing Tips
  17. See, I feel exactly the same way... only opposite. I am incredibly familiar with windows, and the few times I've had to use a mac (one family I babysat for is a mac family, and a friend who I had a project with's laptop) I have to stare at the screen for several minutes tring to figure out how the heck to do anything. Also, it seems to me that all mac-ish people pride the "intuitive" user interface- see the above. I know about twenty different ways to do some things in windows, whereas with mac I have to look and try to find the "right" way. I am willing to admit this is probably just due to unfamiliarity with the way the interface works, but something that touts itself as "intuitive" should be more, well, intuitive! Anyway, mini-rant over. All of the above said, I have rather limited experience with Apple, other than iTunes (which is a whole new rant-tastic rant that I won't get into right now)
  18. Yeah I thought it was amusing when I joined, but I got it quickly because I think around that point a lot of people were being promoted, so spike references abounded. I have worried when I welcome and warn, people won't get it...
  19. Signed up an hour or so ago, no email yet though. I am KeyDraconis4745 EDIT: Hufflepuff *sigh*
  20. We try to be friendly! Welcome to the forums, Feeki, I hope you enjoy your time here. Yeah, when I went up to Brandon at a con I was incredibly nervous... had no reason to be, but *shrug*. I pulled out of it soon enough, he is a really nice guy. Wish *I* was a knight...
  21. I would like to announce that I finally got a friend of mine to read a Sanderson book! I chose Warbreaker because it matched his humor, and he LOVED IT! I was so excited, then he asked when book 2 was going to come out. I tried to get him to read Mistborn, but he refuses, saying he reads books by what series he likes, not by what author he likes. What?! Maybe time to tell him about Adonalsium early... that makes ALL the books a series, right? *sigh*
  22. Idle curiosity, a nook color, simple touch, or classic? We have Windows Vista on a desktop, my sister/2 of my brothers have windows 7. As for phones, we run are divided in my family- 3 iphones and 5 android. I don't like iphones because I think the idea of only having 1 button an the entire phone is stupid. I like having my menu, home, select, and back button easily available- also there are no options for a physical keyboard with apple. I know from experience that virtual ones are easy enough to get used to, but I don't like half my screen being taken up with a keyboard. I prefer to be able to actually see where I am typing I haven't used mac computers enough to have an opinion. I have a nook simple touch, scribbled on by Mr. Sanderson among others
  23. I hate it when those hooligans steal the trees. Well those certainly grab reader attention. The first line of what I'm working on right now doesn't really make sense with out the rest of the paragraph, but... "The wan light of the crescent moon high above the city highlighted the cold, clean emptiness of the city square." and in context and then there is a whole running away from the bad guy thing for a while. I am prolly going to rewrite the entire opening scene later, when I get a bit further in story development. The little joke on the reader amused me to write, but it'll probably get cut.
  24. Hey there, welcome to the forums, we're glad to have you! Out of curiosity, how many of Brandon's books have you read? If not all, be careful of the General Theories board spoilers ahoy. By the way, watch out for the admins, they like to spike people.
  25. I would like to announce that I just had pizza. With Bacon. And mushrooms. Also, my brother is a decent person for providing such pizza.
