Basically, Jasnah will take on an squire/protégée that is a perfect Elsecaller. Ivory will continue to be the only inkspren willing to bond, however. Jasnah will die in some heroic sacrifice, and Ivory will bond the squire. The flashback book will parallel Jasnah's experiences bonding Ivory alone, without guidance, and the new Elsecaller's experiences bonding Ivory after just losing her mentor. Jasnah will either die in the books or become a worldhopper who will pop up in sci-fi Mistborn. I can't imagine any other ending for her.

Jasnah is the one I'm unsure will survive, but that might just be because I have a Jasnah's death theory I'm a bit fond of. Not that I want Jasnah to die, of course.

At the recent Orem signing, Brandon mentioned that he wrote an outline and script for a graphic novel after White Sand is done. I put the relevant part below. As far as I'm aware, this is the first we've heard of it. I'm curious, with the mixed reaction White Sand got here on the Shard, what are people's thoughts on this? Are you hopeful? Apathetic? Doubtful it will be good? Something else entirely?

In that case, let's list out all of the currently known unfinished plot lines to see what might get resolved then. Duel of the champions Dalinar as Unity Sja-Anat's loyalty Shallan's infiltration of the Ghostbloods Shallan's mental health Kaladin's inability to let go how Shardplate works how Soulcasters and other ancient fabrials work how Urithiru works/the Sibling what Rock has been hiding from Bridge 4 how Rock shot a Shardbkw Venli getting singers to turn against Odium Szeth's cleansing of Shinovar Mr T and the Diagram working with Odium Moash killing heralds permanently Azir leaving the coalition what's going on with Mayalarin Nale siding with Odium Puuli's grandfather's story I'm sure I'm missing some, since that's just what I could think of off the top of my head. If people want to post some I forgot, I can add them to the list. Plenty of those will be resolved in book 4, but some should carry over. I'm increasingly convinced, however, that plenty will happen that we don't currently have any idea about. We still have two SA sized books before then, which, according to Brandon's outlining, is equivalent to six regular books.

In book 4, Shallan will discover a plot within the Ghostbloods. That book will end with her saving Iyatil's life from Mraize's assassination attempt. She takes Mraize's position in the Ghostbloods for book 5 and it ends with her planning multiple off-world trips including a semester studying at Silverlight University and practice painting at the Court of the Gods. That or something with Sja-Anat. Kaladin will fight Moash in the dual of champions and win, but will be mortally wounded and die soon after. He will never say the fifth ideal, but his final moments and determination that his men be led well will inspire Teft to say it and step into the role of leader of the Windrunners. Book six will begin with the prophecy from Puuli's grandfather coming true.

What YouTube Channels do you watch?

I like watching The Dom, especially his Lost in Adaptation series. I also really enjoy the 17th Shard channel. -

Shardcast: Savantism, Resonances, and Compounding
thegatorgirl00 commented on Chaos's article in Shardcast
I would argue that the Radiant Resonances are a natural outgrowth if the philsosphical interpretations of surges, but I would also argue that the orders are a natural outgrowth of the philosophical interpretation of surges so it's hard to say what causes them. -
[OB spoilers] Is Maya alive?
thegatorgirl00 replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
I interpreted that as him being frustrated because he has to deal with defeating a thunderclast and evacuating civilians by himself, which is a lot even for a Shardbearer. His thought about the Radiant isn't necessarily for specifically dealing with the child; the child just illustrates to him the magnitude of his task and someone with surges would be really helpful in actually accomplishing it. The soldiers are the only help he does have, so he gives them whatever they can reasonably do that would help in, in this case making sure the child gets to safety. I think his irritation is just at the bad situation in general.- 292 replies

A while ago a member of this site did make some awe spren emojis. I'm not totally sure how the work, but you can check them out and use them.
-
Why? The way I see it, this makes the theory less likely. If the spren agreed, they could have severed the bond without being killed. If they wanted to prevent future spren from bonding, they could have explained to future generations why bonding is bad and been around to enforce the rule on anyone who tried to disagree. That seems safer than a plan to shock the spren into avoiding bonds.

[OB spoilers] Is Maya alive?
thegatorgirl00 replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
I guess we just fundamentally disagree on what makes someone a Good Samaritan. To me what you described would be a social worker, which Brandon said in the WoB wasn't fully accurate. I don't think her values were any different. She still cared about people. My question is that if she didn't have some doubts and uncertainties on who she should care for, then why didn't she swear the ideal sooner? I'll admit that my logic is probably flawed on this point.- 292 replies

[OB spoilers] Is Maya alive?
thegatorgirl00 replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
Technically, Adolin isn't a "natural" Radiant, either. His is a completely unique scenario that has never been seen before in the entire Cosmere. For all we know, the bond all Shardbearers have with their Blade will mean his process has more similarity to achieving Radiancy through squireship than it will to achieving it "naturally". I'm not saying it does, I just think with the little information we know about the process, the two comparisons are just as valid.- 292 replies

I'm curious what your definition of a good Samaritan is. To me, it's just someone who stops to help someone they see in need which I believe Adolin does based on the examples others have provided. When does Lift start remembering those outside her immediate circle? The first time we see her she is already incredibly close to swearing the second ideal. We never saw her attitude when it was just a proto-bond or just after she swore the first ideal. I think it's important to remember Adolin is nowhere near that level yet. To make a comparison that I know isn't perfect because the orders are different, he's where Kaladin was for the majority of WoK. Kaladin didn't care about protecting those outside his immediate circle until just before he swore the second oath. I think my main disagreement with what yo have said is the idea that the growth has to come before the bond is formed. The way I see it, the Nahel bond isn't about the spren finding the perfect candidate and then bonding them. It's about the spren finding someone who could maybe, possibly, eventually become the perfect candidate and bonding them, and then working towards that goal through trying to understand and live a series of ideals guiding how the perfect candidate would live. And the Skybreakers showed how hard it is. Nale was the only living one to reach that level. Adolin would have a harder time than most Radiants because he would need to swear, presumably, the first three ideals without his spren's guidance. To me he shows enough promise that he could eventually reach that point to begin the bonding process.- 292 replies

Nice catch on the salut, didn't notice that myself. Random Voidbinding chart fact related to Truthwatchers you guys missed. Unlike the other orders, neither Truthwatchers or Bondsmiths have lines connecting the order symbol to the surges on the chart. It could just be stylistic, but it is far more interesting to speculate that it is because of their abilities. Time to test this Renarin

Well, the Alethi are tolerant of homosexuality in principle, but that doesn't mean society doesn't pressure them to fit a role. Like, we're ok with this but if you don't have a female relative or money to hire a woman to do this work, your life will be far more difficult. And we only saw the views of one small, fairly liberal group of men. Others might feel differently. Drehy might figure that since he's already been through hell with Bridge 4, he might as well live how he wants. For your point on marriage, oaths are important on Roshar. While that attitude would have certainly decreased since the Recreance, I would still expect them to place importance on not breaking vows. In that case, infidelity would be heavily frowned upon. I don't think we've seen anyone cheat on their spouse, though, so it's hard to say how much it still matters in culture. Thinking about it, I would expect there to be a higher rate of homosexuality among the Ardentia than in the general populace. There they could find partners without dealing with the difficulties of the defined gender roles.

[OB] The Fourth Oath, the Oath of Abandoment

Here are the quotes in question. And later. It has definitely been mentioned here before. It's just that there's some disagreement over whether the Shardplate is a Lightweaving or real. -
[OB] The Fourth Oath, the Oath of Abandoment
thegatorgirl00 replied to MountainKing's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree, and I think this is actually true for the Lightweavers in a more subtle way. Not ideals but Cryptics are drawn to Lightweavers because of their lives. Shallan's fourth ideal was a particularly difficult one for her to confront and forced her to stop lying about her pas. -
I definitely think there is more to Adolin's fashion sense. Adolin is by nature a very expressive person. Vorin culture doesn't really allow many ways for Kent to express themselves. Fashion is one of the only ways for young men to express who they are. That's why it's always been so important to Adolin. The quote with Shallan, I think, shows that. She doesn't get how important a form of expression fashion is to him and other young Vorin men. And why should she? She's always had her journal and her drawings for that. Clothing is just another tool of many at her disposal. I think these scenes are Adolin trying to determine his identity in this new, changing world. Fashion, as his main source of expression, plays a major role in that self-discovery.

A while before OB came out, someone (I don't remember who or where, sorry) suggested that her hatred of the robbers could be because of something that happened to one of her wards based on her comments about being bad with them. I really liked that theory at the time. It would be interesting to revisit it with some of the new information and comments we got in OB.
-
I find it interesting that her reaction is to think "Not again" and panic. Could it be that seeing things like this and telling adults about it is what got her labeled insane in the first place? She would be panicked to think this disease she was 'cured' of as a child by being locked in a dark room is coming back. Finding out she was right would just make her feelings for those responsible for her treatment worse. Shallan says in WoR that the ardents treat insanity with quiet, dark rooms. Imagine Jasnah, as a young girl, coming to her mother with stories about her shadow facing the wrong way. When she keeps insisting it is real, she is sent by her parents to the ardents for treatment. They lock her in a dark room to 'help' her. That level of isolation is a form of abuse and she would have every right to feel betrayed by the people who were supposed to love her. EDIT: @Alderant you posted right before I did, but it looks like we were on exactly the same page.

I was recently looking at the beliefs of the original Trelagism religion, and it seemed interesting in the context of shard's avatars. Trell had many eyes that quietly shone out, always watching them. His brother had one eye that he made shine brighter than Trell's. Autonomy has many Avatars throughout the Cosmere, all with less individual power than than the other shards. The story of Trell seems a good metaphor for Autonomy and the other shards, assuming you mean to make Autonomy the hero. Or I could just be reading too much into this in an attempt to make connections. Which do you guys think it is?
