  1. Not on sight, as the individual that held his oathstone wore a mask. If Nalan altered his accent the first time, it's plausible that it could still be him. I always assumed it was a Soulcaster lackey that worked for a more insidious power that will be spun out over the next few books...
  2. A sizeable bag, sure. Our questions surround how much of that Atium did he use to make an "Atium-mind(s)" and then how much did he take to fuel his life beyond his normal lifespan? Maybe he still has plenty, but that doesn't change that it's a scarce resource and Marsh is now 250ish years beyond his natural lifespan. There are still some valid concerns there.
  3. While possible, it seems unlikely. Seems much more likely that it's a subtle influencing of Odium or somesuch.
  4. Yeah. I searched on Toxicity for some other questions I had about bendalloy & cadmium and this inconsistency bothered me enough to grave dig a little.
  5. It could be the Scadrian Southern Continent, though. Harmony is keeping a careful watch on them and is concerned that they are advancing technologically faster than Elendel is, or that's how I read it...
  6. (emphasis mine.) Birthdate is unknown. Leathery skin that she assumes is from being in the field could be naturally darker due to Terris ancestry. What is the likelihood that Aradel is quietly extending his age or perhaps is a kandra? Can we find other clues to refute/support this possibility?
  7. WoR spoilers: You can seriously do this all day. The leader struck down and returned is the oldest trope in recorded history for a reason. But for real... that shardpool in the Southern Roughs... Doesn't the preview for Bands of Mourning say Wax is headed thataway? Hmm.
  8. It's like none of you youngins remember POPPLES. https://youtu.be/lzzHB-cQVO8 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popples
  9. A bluetooth headset doesn't pierce the spiritweb, linking the individual's soul directly to both Preservation AND Ruin. Yes, you can deliver a current through near-field charging... but isn't a soldered lead with a conductive metal wire far more efficient?
  10. This also leads me to think that by the time of The Final Empire, it's indicated that The Lord Ruler is filling his metalminds for several days at a time. How much Atium is he burning to store for three days? How much Atium is he burning to balance being almost 1,100 years old? How long can Ironeyes hold out on his small stash? He's already 340+ years old.
  11. One quick point of order. Take into consideration that that Atium differs as it is being burned for power (of Ruin) as opposed to the other metals (of preservation) which are being burned to allow you to access another source of power. This per WoB.
  12. Some of your view is predicated on Sazed/Harmony's access to the powers of Preservation working exactly like Rashek or Vin's access to them. Remember that Preservation had destroyed his mind to hold Ruin's mind in the pool and his power regenned once every 1024 years until it came back. With both Preservation and Ruin free and fully present, blending to create a single new shard, Sazed/Harmony doesn't have a strong burst of power that will fade. IT's all concentrated on him unless he gives it up. Plus he did a TON of stuff before the survivors came out of their bunkers. It doesn't rule it out, but yeah, some WoB would be a good thing. This. So much this. A flashback to Wax bouncing around a drilling site in a gunfight with some wanted coinshot felon would be great. In Alloy of Law, Brandon foreshadowed that the Set is excavating for a subway, so why wouldn't they be able to excavate for other utilities? They've obviously run electrical infrastructure and we assume there are sewers or some form of sanitation. Putting the rest of it in is not much different than modern society finding solutions for running infrastructure in London, New York and other cities that predate modern tech.
  13. Perhaps it's because Wayne enjoys learning unique people and accents. Hoid likely has put on a unique persona in this world so Wayne is going to try to figure out how to wear him like a costume. Add him to his repertoire, so to speak. ayne just has no idea that the coachman he's trying to imitate has an ENORMOUS backstory.
  14. Totally fair, but I was trying to make the point clear. The Venn Diagram really does this.
  15. She was disapproving of Wax going off to the Roughs, etc. etc. What if it's because she wants him to stay with the Terris in order to improve the genetics, not run off and marry some no-talent stick-in-the-mud (or unsnapped misting!?) on account of her minor house being flush with cash? hmm. What about that? Edit: I'm not saying Steris is an unsnapped or hidden misting, but how fun would it be if she's an aluminum gnat or something and doesn't know it?
  16. It's consistent. You even said it, though you may not realize it. Wax thinks that, based on the Historica, the Well of Ascension should be under that hut... but he also clearly thinks that he doesn't have time right now to go down there and check. Wax is fallible and is making assumptions based off of the writings. When he's climing through the Pits, he's using the pock marks from the tiny ruin wells as handholds because the crystals haven't grown back yet (300 years after Kelsier destroyed them.) The fact that the Well is no longer under the Hut according to WoB points to something significant, we just don't know what yet.
  17. Good point that. Here in the Gulf of Mexico we're working Paleogene plays, nominally 66-23Ma. Onshore in Texas there is quite a bit of work in the Permian Basin (298-252Ma.) Just a difference in the "age of the rock" as you said. If Sazed (SoS Spoiler) , that shows he put A LOT of thought into little details, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had taken the effort to specifically locate petroleum resources. Not saying that's anything close to proof of anything, just showing that Sazed is willing to exercise a lot of effort for what seems a little thing. Careful placement of fossil fuel reservoirs isn't a little thing. It may even be essential to their technological development. Another possibility is Sazed "bulldozing" tons of ash that is festooned with dead ash-eating microbes creating a potential feed stock for creation of sapropel that is then buried by the reformation of the continents. If not the microbes, there were A LOT of dead humans and animals on Scadrial. What if the fossil fuels are only 300 years old... A little creepy if the oil is people and koloss, not dinosaurs. Also, it is of interest to me as to where geographically the oil is coming from. I assumed* it was out in the Roughs, mostly because the fashion choices and lawlessness led me to thinking of the Roughs like turn-of-the-20th Wild West USA and assumed* that the oil was being produced in the roughs and refined closer to civilization. *Fully recognizing the dangers of assumption. Makes an chull out of you and umption. This had me hypothesizing about the oil production using that era's technology. 1900-1920 drilling tech wasn't pulling deep plays at high pressures like we do today. They were pulling oil that was close to the surface. The Spindletop reservoir (The first gusher in Texas, 1901) was explored and developed because the hill would routinely give off sulfurous fumes and bubbling gas seepages. After drilling 1,300 feet, It blew 900,000 barrels into the air over a week or so before they got control on it. Nothing close to the tech we put into exploration and drilling today. I only took three courses in geology at university. I will defer to your greater expertise. Part of me wants to agree with that. The other part thinks Scadrians haven't developed the radio or unmanned flight, but they can produce effective biofuel? Doesn't follow. I think I'll seek WoB regarding scadrian gasoline next opportunity I get. Not Cosmere shattering in implication, but would be interesting to find out if he and Peter have thought through this portion and I hate asking questions that don't seem very unique.
  18. Christmas of 2016. *sigh* Can anyone spare some bendalloy for a really long speed bubble? It's too long to wait. Oh, and welcome.
  19. Okay I went and checked the portion of SoS where Wax is in the Kandra Homeland and reread the section where they walk past the Lord Ruler's Terris Hut that is now in those caverns. Wax thinks that the Well of Ascension could be under Rashek's hut, but it doesn't confirm that it is. He talks about climbing up the cliff that was the Pits of Hathsin and all the glowy lichen, but it doesn't confirm if Ruin's shardpool is still under those pits. Possible that Ruin's pool moved and the pits stayed. I'm not sure that Harmony has a single Shardpool. I think there are still two shardpools on Scadrial, one for each Shard as Sazed is very clear that he holds the power of Ruin and Preservation, not that he now holds the power of Harmony.
  20. unless the 40's or 80's stuff involves a war between Elendel and the other continent. :0
  21. The Latin plural would be Ryshadia. (Stadium -> Stadia, as a neutral second declension noun) No idea if Brandon would follow Latin conjugation for Alethi terms.
  22. At the Houston SoS signing, Brandon said the Era3 was going to be 80's Spy vs. Spy thriller like a Ludlum or Clancy novel. Could we see a Cold War between Elendel and the Southern Continent like USA vs. USSR?
  23. If you are right wouldn't the bright blue pool point to
  24. Somewhat tangent to this conversation, how did this "parshendi" get to a Shardpool is the Southern Roughs? The only confirmed Shardpool on Roshar is in the Horneater Peaks in Eastern Jah Keved. That's a far distance from the Shattered Plains. That just got my wheels turning. Also, which Shardpool is that in the Southern Roughs? Is Preservation's pool still under Elendel? (Is Elendel close to old Luthadel?) Is the former site of the Pits of Hathsin now in the Southern Roughs or did one of the pools completely relocate in the Catacendre?
