Adonalsium was, essentially, useless?
WeiryWriter replied to CaptainRyan's topic in Cosmere Discussion
To my knowledge there was never a canon term for what the fandom generally refers to as as a Shard's "Intent". Mandate was only ever used by Brandon a single time, in the HoA epigraphs, by Sazed (who really wouldn't have had time to learn the "correct" in-world term at the time it was written). Brandon may one day give us a canon term for this (like he did with Vessel/Shardholder) but for now Intent is the generally accepted, and understood, term and I see little use in trying to change that (beyond just being kind of confusing). -
New Information On AonDor Intitiation.

This WoB isn't actually quite accurate on the count of Leras, here's a follow-up where Brandon says that Leras was still in the process of dying: -
The Splintercast Reads Bands of Mourning, Episode 8: Chapters 19-21
WeiryWriter commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
Yeah I also totally thought that Allik was a Hemalurgic construct at first too. Like the Hemalurgic chimeras from the end of Shadows but that actually remembered what it was like to be human and stuff. I totally started flashing back to Fullmetal Alchemist at this point ("Ed... ward...") and was like "Don't you do this to me Sanderson! Don't you dare!". The Final Empire was at the Magnetic North Pole, not the Geographic one, and was inhabitable because of the ferromagnetic ash. Which actually led it to be colder there than at the Geographic North Pole. The Southerners seem to have survived by adapting to the extreme heat, so what is nice and temperate for the Northerners is a frozen wasteland as far as they are concerned. I still want to ask Brandon why Sazed didn't change their heat tolerances during the Catacendre...- 7 comments

We actually do have a fairly recent WoB about this from the Philadelphia Calamity signing: So basically there really isn't any danger of Allomancy disappearing, with no involvement from Harmony necessary. @Landis963 I don't think we can take it as a given that 16% of the population will be Allomancers, that's just part of the mistsickness Snappings (which as far as we know are no longer in effect) and it was distinctly unnatural. Meaning it wasn't just a coincidental "oh we're going to insta-Snap everybody with Allomantic genes which is 16% of them" the mists were actively Investing people with Allomancy.

You can say that again, seriously the most stressful, but awesome, time I've had watching since at least the episode after the Conclave showed up. (Though that was stressful for an entirely different reason.) To be honest I'm still recovering...

I don't have access to it at the moment, as I am on my phone, but we do have explicit WoB that Forgery is powered by the Dor. Sorry.

[New WoB] Allomantic Bronze & the Listener Rhythms
WeiryWriter replied to Aethenoth's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think we can definitively say that. We know that Allomantic bronze can detect Feruchemy (or really any kinetic Investiture) but nobody has figured out how yet, so it stands to reason that while it is possible use bronze to detect the Rhythms it would take some measure of practice. -
[New WoB] Allomantic Bronze & the Listener Rhythms
WeiryWriter replied to Aethenoth's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Split this off into it's own thread. In the future with stuff like this you are allowed to start a new thread. Event threads should really only be for stuff from the event. Anyway, this is a very interesting revelation, and one that I don't think I had ever contemplated on. Thanks for asking! If possible do you think you could post a picture? -
That wouldn't be a theory, Feruchemy is confirmed to be a result of the interaction between Ruin and Preservation.

The Splintercast Reads Bands of Mourning, Episode 7: Chapters 16-18
WeiryWriter commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
Hehe, the line Steris shouts while they're fleeing the hotel is probably my favorite of the book (and it's very amusing that you called it ahead of time). Also I think I mentioned this during the SoS Splintercast but anteverdant is such a great word.- 7 comments

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
WeiryWriter replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I do think it is important to point out that that WoB is paraphrased, so we really can't use that as proof of Brandon using Intent unprompted. -
I don't have the document on me at the moment but isn't the planet name actually given in-text? For some reason I want to say Vaeris, but it has been a couple years since I've read the book.

This really did not need to be a separate thread.

If you get a chance could you post the audio as well? And was there anyone else recording the signing that might have gotten the rest of it?
-
I think you are misinterpreting Brandon there, he's not saying Hoid is named Ais (Eis was just a mispronunciation on Brandon's part, trying to figure out Ais' name) just that Ais is the one who mentions Hoid as part of a past case.

Around the Cosmere: Theories & WoB for March & April
WeiryWriter commented on Moogle's article in Columns and Features
Yeah, unfortunately this is mostly my fault. I've just had a lot on my plate working on certain projects and what little time I've had to spend on interview stuff has gone towards transcriptions. My summer break does start in a few weeks though, and it is currently my plan to buckle down and get the interview situation up to snuff. As for when it will get updated next exactly, I really don't know. My hope though is that as much as is possible will be indexed and searchable by the end of the summer. Whether that comes to pass, we shall see. Really though to anyone who wants to help. Transcribe and help proof transcriptions. That is always a huge help. @Kaymyth, good luck with the recording! -
As far as I can remember It was always Brandon's plan to write what is now known as Era 3 during the break between Stormlight 5 and 6, but I don't recall anything saying that that is where it was going to fall chronologically in-world.

I'm confused what you mean by this?
-
I was just thinking about starting a thread about this! I'm mildly completely obsessed with Critical Role. I was only able to watch up until the break for this past Thursday's episode and I can't wait until the VOD gets posted. So who is everyone's favorite player character, guest player character, and npc? Mine are Percy (especially after the whole Whitestone arc), Zahra, and Allura.

Unfortunately it is as simple as they just need more symbols for sound then there are metals:

Will there be a Secret History audiobook?
WeiryWriter replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Mistborn
If I remember correctly Brandon and co. have mentioned that there will be one as part of Arcanum Unbound. -
The Splintercast Reads Bands of Mourning, Episode 5: Chapters 10-12
WeiryWriter commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
The scene in the hotel is probably one of my favorite scenes in the book (along with the other scene with the hotel lady in a couple chapters) because the characters aren't acting any different from the way (which has kind of become "normal" for us) they usually but the introduction of a random bystander character kind of shows how insane/absurd the whole situation actually is. I'm totally with you on wondering why Wax didn't recognize Hoid, that just seems hinky. We actually did know about time bubbles not having redshift before this, and it's a pretty big mystery. Brandon has said that he originally wanted to do it but then Peter was all "NO YOU'D MICROWAVE PEOPLE" and stuff. It was definitely neat to see Khriss hang a lantern on it though, it kind of is a message to the fandom that they are asking the right questions. Khriss *is* our forum. Steris is awesome, I loved the bit with the lemon soda.- 7 comments

So I've been meaning to post this for the last two and a half months but never quite got around to it until now... But I did order a signed copy of Bands with a question of semantic relevance: Question For the Coppermind: What should we call the page about the Southerner medallions? (or: How would Khriss refer to them in an Ars Arcanum?) Brandon Sanderson Let’s call them “unsealed metalminds” though Era 3 might use slang.
