What I was trying to get across in my post was that whether you should view Harmony as one shard or two depends on the situation. While there are certainly instances where it is useful to think of Harmony as a single shard, such as "being dropped at the death of its holder," Harmony is still two shards. Yes Harmony does have more raw power than the other shards, according to some he is the most powerful entity in the cosmere but that is because Harmony is two shards. Edit: Ninja'd by Grey Pilgrim who might like the first theory in my sig...

Eh... I would disagree with that last part. The Harmony/Ruin/Preservation dynamic can be viewed in a number of ways (i.e. as one shard and as two shards). In that instance I feel the two-shard view would be more accurate. So its 13 intact shards and 12 consciousnesses.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
WeiryWriter replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Are there any shardworlds that are actually moons? Does Bloodsealing use Dzhamar as its base? Is "Cryptics" the canon name of the truthspren/symbolheads? Edit: What is the name of the fifth Heritage Faction arbiter? What are Ushnaka's and Stivient's genders? Edit2: How do you spell "Lyss" (person form the WoR Prologue)? -
brandonsanderson.com site redesign
WeiryWriter replied to PeterAhlstrom's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Not yet. Also Brandon has not released the WoK annotations yet, but we are chomping at the bit for them. -
Very little is concretely known about the Dakhor magic system that it really can't be categorized at the moment. However since all Selish magic is basically "one" and the two sub-magics we significant information on are both (likely) end-positive then it doesn't strain credulity to say they are all end-positive. I'm not saying they are but I wouldn't be surprised. P.S. Just want to point out that ChayShan originated from JinDo, not Duladel.

There's only going to be a thousand of them. And it's signed.

According to my understanding that is correct, Morsk. It's all about relative magnitudes. Killing a human is a relatively small bit of ruination more than outweighed by the preservation of Ruin's prison. Killing two shards? That piece of ruination is to much for Leras!Preservation, which is why Vin had to do it.
-
https://www.tachyonpublications.com/book/Emperors_Soul.html?Session_ID=new that should work Morsk. (by the way this is not me entering the contest...)

Basically what Windy said. Rashek couldn't kill Kwaan because he wanted to do it for selfish reasons. You can kill with Preservation's look at Elend he was fatally injured by the mistspirit. The reason Preservation could do that little bit of Ruin is because it would lead to something greater being Preserved. It is my opinion that shard's can act against their intent, if it leads to something greater that IS in line with their intent.

Hmm... very interesting. I don't know if I want it to be true though since it is one of my pet theories that Hoid uses feruchemy the "mechanical" way. Then again I don't see why that couldn't be used to regrow body parts, much like a Regrowth fabrial.

Lerasium and Atium Theory (potential Mistborn spoilers)
WeiryWriter replied to Shardlet's topic in Mistborn
Just to cite the two kinds of mists. Also something I didn't think of for my last post. It would actually be kind of balanced if you could get feruchemy by burning sazedium. You can already get it by way of hemalurgy. Burning would just be the way it is granted from the allomancy side of things. -
Lerasium and Atium Theory (potential Mistborn spoilers)
WeiryWriter replied to Shardlet's topic in Mistborn
The operative word there is "basically," yah Harmony can be thought of as a single Shard but Ruin and Preservation still exist as discrete entities within it. There are still two kinds of mists during Alloy. I think the reason there isn't a new god metal is the same as to why there aren't any new magic systems. Though personally I think a 50/50 alloy should be called "sazedium." I actually think burning sazedium to become a feruchemist makes sense. Lerasium alloys are metals that anyone can burn, and have the side-effect of re-writing a person's sDNA. Why come up with a new mechanic when there is one that is already suitable? On a side note: Feruchemy wasn't the only metallic art used before Rashek's Ascension. I wouldn't even call it the most used. Hemalurgy, or at least the practice of metal piercings, was in fairly wide use at that point, Alendi had hemalurgic bronze in addition to being a seeker. Feruchemy was limited to the Terris people, and really wasn't well-known. Allomancy was incredibly rare, it was only when the mists started snapping people that allomancers appeared in any appreciable numbers. -
It should work now. I'm just about finished with the transcriptions, there are a some places in each of them where I just can't tell what Brandon says. If anyone else wants to take a crack at it, go ahead. Here are the all thinks in one post: Shadows of Self Reading Legion sequel Reading Sixth of the Dusk Reading Words of Radiance Prologue Reading

That's the cool thing about Google Doc's. Here is the link to the Sixth of the Dusk transcription. and here is the one for the WoR prologue.

Okay I've done as much as I can for now on the Shadows of Self Reading. Now onto the Legion sequel... https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lgQtIfJmkc9aZY9Jvlx4o9rjqgjMCoMcEodINL5QnJU/edit

I've started transcribing the Shadows of Self reading. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V5vm8JlnoKLxsdJBB4z9GRSGu8Ku8wkWrR_7R4HUh_g/edit?usp=sharing I will probably skip around from recording to recording over the course of the day, so expect more google Doc links...

Aside from the Greater Roshar system, are there any other multiple shardworld systems? -
Wow, I'm surprised he revealed the name of Ashen since he said here that he wasn't going to reveal its name until Silence Divine was released. It must have been a slip. But a slip I am happy about. I agree with Windy that Brayse is likely Damnation. I wonder if the interval between Desolations has anything to do with planetary alignment between Brayse and Roshar, when they are closest and Odium's power is at its peak on Roshar.

Anyone have any info from ConnectiCon?
WeiryWriter replied to Kurkistan's topic in Events and Signings
Any word on the video? -
So I just finished my reread of WoK and came across this death quote for Gadol. It was mentioned previous in the thread but there wasn't any speculation on it. It is said part way through chapter 17 for those who want to know. When I read it my first thought was that it dealt with the Shattered Plains being broken but it just didn't feel right. Then I remembered this question: I think this death quote has to do with the environmental impact of the war on the chasmfiend population and the gemhearts they create.

Magic On Sel - And the Cognitive Identity of a Nation

You might want to read this theory as yours reads very similar to it. -
Firefight is the sequel to Steelheart.

Why does this have to come out in December? I want to read the rest now. I like the idea that Silence is White Fox. She is supposed to be a "Dangerous Woman" and I like how it would be if she turned out to be the person all these people, who take her for granted, fear.

Not quite true, we know they don't use the Metallic Arts in the same way as the northerners. Instead of the genetic way we are familiar with they use them "mechanically" but we don't really know what that means yet.
