  1. Okay, if you think so. Personally I see it as just a darker red, since garnets are a red stone. (by the way can you link me to where we found out the binding color, I can't seem to find it. From what I remember though he said it was supposed to be "purple" not "reddish-purple" which would indicate order 8?) Edit: Ninja'd by Shardlet...
  2. I thought it was supposed to be purple?
  3. Actually, mistings (but not mistborn) did exists prior to the Lord Ruler's Ascension, they were just exceedingly rare. Alendi, for example, was a Seeker. That, and the fact he also had a spike for Allomantic bronze, is why he could "hear" the Well. Also it could be argued that Hemalurgy was in pretty wide use during the Classical period. Metal piercings were a significant part of the culture because they served as a way to communicate with the gods. (That is why Alendi had his spikes, Ruin had manipulated the prophesies to insure the Hero was under his influence.)
  4. Happy Ookla the mokovial!
  5. So does anyone else remember in the State of the Sanderson when Brandon mentioned he would be releasing a Steelheart novella by the end of the year? Well, its coming next Tuesday, December 3! It is called Mitosis and is a stand alone story between the first two books. And according to Brandon's comments on Reddit it includes "some really bad power ballad lyrics by yours truly." Mitosis on Amazon.com Mitosis on BarnesandNoble.com
  6. [out of game] Actually that has been confirmed, Brandon talks about him being Axies in the videos where he writes the interlude. And as for the verbs wax and wane they don't refer exclusively to the phases of the moon. To wax means "to gradually increase" whereas to wane means "to gradually decrease". It just happens that they are used most often in reference to the phases of the moon (i.e. waxing crescent or waning gibbous) but they can be used for other things as well. As a person ages they gradually weaken, their strength wanes. On them not realizing Wax and Wayne is a pun, I think it has less to do with their not being a moon (since that isn't the origin of the words) and more to do with the fact that "Wax and Wayne" is a pun, in English, but they don't speak English on Scadrial. 7. The Magnanimous one has got it. No space.
  8. Honorspren are splinters of Honor, it is Word of Brandon. You are also operating under a bit of a flawed premise, that splinters can only exist after a Shard has been Splintered. This is not so. A Shard has the ability to voluntarily create splinters, as is the case with Endowment and the divine breaths.
  9. ... lord_Ffnord... oops... no one speak of this...
  10. Luck? I don't need no stinkin' luck! Lord Fnord
  11. I believe that that is a theory that has been brought up before but I'm disinclined to support it based on a couple of facts. One, Sel has two shards but only really has a single manifestation of investiture, what we generally refer to as separate magics (i.e. AonDor, Forgery, ChayShan) are in actuality variations of a single system. And on Roshar Brandon has said that there are either 10 systems or 30 "depending on how you count them". My personal explanation, and this is just a theory, is that the first counts the manipulation of each surge where as the second splits it depending on how it is accessed (i.e. according to the first surgbinding-gravity, voidbinding-gravity, and fabrial-gravity would count as the same magic system, the second would separate them). I don't know how likely it is, but it makes since to me. (On a side note I don't include the Old Magic in that explanation because I think it is a result of direct shardic influence as opposed to being a manifestation of investiture)
  12. I, personally, would not say a person's spirit-web/sDNA would be the entirety of a person's soul/spiritual aspect. In the same way that a persons pDNA is only a part of their physical aspect.
  13. Happy Birthday Peter! And Happy Ookla the Mokovial to everyone else! (I'm not going to try and hide who I am) @Ookla the Stormlblessed - Is that you, Mailliw73?
  14. I don't have a quote for this but it is Hoid/Wit. I'll try and find the quote though...
  15. Brandon has said that soulstamps lose power the farther they get from MaiPon.
  16. I'm sorry, that last line seems to have been uncalled for but I was not trying to be rude. That said I do not see how I am "cherry picking" the facts. I laid out the facts a thought were relevant to the debate, what did I leave out? This is probably for the best. Darnam if you wish to continue this conversation, send me a PM.
  17. I think it has to do with how we say dates, which is Month Day Year, i.e. today is November 22, 2013 as opposed to the 22nd of November 2013.
  18. But it isn't "the color of armor" it is the color the armor glows there is a difference. In the Day of Recreance vision we see members of two orders abandon their shards, the Windrunners and the Stonewards, and their armor (before they abandon it) glows blue and amber respectively, the colors of their associated gems (sapphire and topaz). I don't think it would be possible for a radiant to make their order glow another orders color and I would have issues if they could. If she were an Edgedancer or a member of Ym's order her armor should glow green or white but definitely not amber. Also "the type of magic she uses" is obviously not an inherent ability. She requires the contraption (which is almost certainly a fabrial though some disagree) while Ym/Lift just require stormlight. You are free to keep to your "healthy skepticism" that she isn't a Stoneward but I'm more inclined to go with the evidence.
  19. I believe the policy is for the spoiler forums to remain up for 6 months. I think that is what happened with The Emperor's Soul, and it is the spoiler-period on the wiki...
  20. Nope, not surprised in the slightest... Of course that might having something to do with reading the wikipedia article about the Trilogy when I found out Brandon was finishing the Wheel of Time. Basically I knew how the trilogy ended before I even began.
  21. It should be, or at least will be. Windy is the one who has to do it and he's been pretty busy, if I remember correctly, but when he has time more interviews will be added.
  22. Really? It shouldn't have been since it is in the Forum Q&A thread and the Interview Database. Where were you looking? (Just so I know for future reference, you found it but not through one of the usual ways it seems. This way I can expand my quote-search-fu)
  23. @marianmi 1/2) You say these are WoB, if so I would very much like to see that. Brandon generally RAFO's questions pertaining to the exact nature of the Dor. The prevailing belief, which I ascribe to, is that the Dor is not "accessed" through Devotion and Dominion, it is Devotion and Dominion. Chaos has an excellent "theory" about how this works here. 2a) Except those aren't the only way to access the Dor, that doesn't mention Forgery, Bloodsealing, or ChayShan. Also, there is really only "one" magic system on Sel. 3) Naturally, Devotion and Dominion are not present on Roshar therefore Rosharan magic systems do not use them. 4) I really doubt it, Roshar doesn't have the problems that Sel does with uncontrolled Shardic energy so I don't think a Rosharan-Dor would develop. 5-7) I don't know how to respond to this. 8) Hoid is from Yolen and pre-dates the Shattering, he very likely has innate investiture from Adonalsium. It has been theorized that this is what allows him to use such varied magic systems. He might be able to do Fogery, but it is not an explanation for his abilities since Forgery-soulstamps lose power the farther they are from MaiPon. 9a) Hoid uses Yolish Lightweaving not Rosharan Lightweaving, so no he's not using the power of Honor/Cultivation/Odium. 9b) My use of "fueled" in my last post was a poor chose of wording, R&P do not "fuel" the metallic arts, (generally), they power them. They can fuel them directly, as in the case of atium/the mists/Vin and Elend in the Battle of Hathsin, but those are special cases. This talks a little about how the metallic arts are manifestations of the powers of R&P. 10) I would say no, voidbinding is probably gained in a different manner than surgebinding. Conclusion) Yes, allomancers do use the power of Preservation, that is how it works. The Power of Creation was Adonalsium, which is now the Shards I'm going stop because I'm getting very frustrated with having to prove you wrong, and I'd rather not say anything that would get me in trouble.
  24. Here's a quote that kind of deals with this. I'm sure there are more out there but that is how magic systems work (particularly end-positive ones), they are "fueled" by the shards.
  25. Something you might find useful, there is a quote somewhere where Brandon says a single bead of atium (compounded) is enough to regress a person to childhood. So I don't think there is anything problematic with regressing to that point.
