  1. Maybe Odium arrived when the desolations started? It does lead to a question, though. Namely: Since Odium is intact, why is he called The Broken One?
  2. You know, I'd previously noticed that seemed odd. Guess that explains it.
  3. I'm thinking there's more to Hemalurgy than sticking metal through someone's heart. At the very least, I suspect that if all you do is stab someone with a spike, charging it requires them to also die. Maybe you can get around that by setting things up properly.
  4. I see no reason why Koloss becoming true-breeding would cause spikes to cease functioning. Granted, spiked Koloss might not be true-breeding themselves, but stabbing people in the appropriate places with the original Koloss spikes should still make original Koloss.
  5. I would advise against setting gold compounders on fire. Sure, they'd eventually run out of healing if it could be sustained long enough, but meanwhile you've got a varient on the problem that the only thing worse than a horde of zombies is a horde of burning zombies. Rundown of my suggestions: Gold compouders: belt-fed, water-cooled mounted machine gun. They're effectively incapacitated while actively being shot, so if you have enough ammo they'll be stuck until they run out of healing. Lurchers: They're a fairly minimal threat if there is no metal behind you, so just shoot them a bunch with AP rounds. Coinshots: Bunch of guys with aluminum or obsidian and something vaugely bullet-proot Tineyes: They're just relatively normal guys. Shoot them. Pewterarms: Don't try to get fancy, shoot them a whole lot and don't bother with elaborate poisons they're immune to anyway. Sliders: Get someone who can take them one-on-one in melee combat. Ideally a pewterarm. Seers: Calculate how many people they are physically capable of killing in three minutes. Bring more people than that. While Vin's technique might work, if they expect it their future sight will only be partially negated and they will still have enhanced reactions. Steel compounders: Remotely-detonated explosives Zinc compounders: Lock them in a room with someone who can break them in half and no other objects.
  6. The thing with the Double Slit experiement is that it doesn't actually matter whether you look at the data or not, if you have a machine that collects the data at the slits then the pattern on the final screen will resemble a particle stream. That's not the case with Spren, they only become fixed if the measurements are written. Actually, it's odd that it only happens if the measurements are written down, not just made. I have this theory that Honor is/was blind to ink, hence why Vorinism involves burning prayers. That might be connected.
  7. She had three Soulcaster fabrial-grade gems of different types at hand, as well as spheres that may or may not have sufficed to power her abilities. So the fact that she used a garnet instead of a smokestone or emerald may well be meaningful in and of itself.
  8. I kind of assumed Gaz got disappeared by higher-ups for failing at killing Kaladin, and wasn't put on the bridge runs or openly executed because then they'd have to charge him with something and attract attention.
  9. Uh, as Spook helpfully demonstrated in Hero Of Ages, fire does not work nearly as well on pewter burners as you might expect. Also, I'm pretty sure most designs include metal. And Aluminum and napalm mix burningly, so that's not a terribly helpful option.
  10. The answer to three would seem to be:
  11. Vin's Final Empire tricks are more-or-less of the Only Works Once variety. The arrowheads worked because the Inquisitors instinctively Push on incoming metal projectiles, but Pulling them into a raised forearm would essentially negate the damage to an Inquisitor or even a Mistborn flaring pewter. A simple Push would clear out the metal dust. Really, it seems like the biggest weakness of Mistborn and other Allomancers is their tendency towards complacency in combat situations. All of Vin's tricks work because they startle her opponents badly enough they freeze up for a quarter-second. Then they take a knife somewhere important. Oh, one tip for Mistborn Hazekilling: Do not take metal into a fight with a Mistborn beyond what your Allomancers will use for any reason. Hazekillers with wooden/obsidian gear are horribly outmatched, people with metal on their bodies, even just a belt buckle, die more-or-less automatically.
  12. There's a point where it's indicated that there are sixteen known metals, so they probably have them.
  13. During the radiant flashbacks, the Windrunners were apparently the guys in blue armor who flew, while the amber armored lady teleported. Kaladin demonstrated the capacity to fall from a great height without injury, and you could probably get reasonable flight by chaining Basic Lashings, so the Windrunners probably flew by doing that.
  14. One of the Essences is Blood, which is most definitely alive, so probably. Soulcasting an entire creature would probably be too complex, though.
  15. I must admit to being kind of confused as to what Tindwyl's problem with Vin is. I mean, Vin's side is pretty easy; Tindwyl's method of training Elend involves acting like a jerk towards him and Vin is violently overprotective of her boyfriend. Plus, introducing yourself to an overly-paranoid bodyguard by deliberately isolating their ward is such a spectacularly poor idea Tindwyl is lucky she avoided obsidian-induced heart failure within ten seconds of meeting Vin. But I can't figure out Tindwyl's side.
  16. I'd like one set during the previous house war, playing as a noble (possibly Venture) mistborn and getting to rampage around doing whatever without too much risk of an Inquisitor smacking you into next week.
  17. So, as I've mentioned in a couple threads, I don't think we've seen any of Dalinar's powers yet. I've decided to write down what I think has been going on. Executive summary: To use the power-armor comparison, most of the features of Shardplate are password-protected, where the password is being a Radiant. Dalinar is the only Radiant in Shardplate we see outside of his visions, and all his special powers (discounting the visions) are technically powers of his Plate. However, his ability to use them is a sign that he's a Radiant. But Kaladin, Shallan, and Jasnah could do exactly the same things if they had Plate of their own.
  18. Final Empire: Vin verses Inquisitors, take two. Well Of Ascension: Zane and Vin's rampage, especially the sudden whiplash realization that Cett was not the threat Vin belived. Hero of Ages: Vin flatting Kredik Shaw and accompanying mist tornado. Alloy of Law: "Stop doing that!"
  19. There's two death quotes that mention Stormfather:
  20. Shardplate loses Stormlight when damaged, and it did get pretty battered, so not much can be concluded from that.
  21. It seems unlikely Taravangian is a Ghostblood, because he didn't assist in the assassination attempts on Jasnah. However, he could be running the same plan. Specifically, I think the Ghostbloods, the Parshendi, and Team Taravangian all intend to trigger a bunch of wars so the full military might of Roshar will be already moblized when the Desolation hits, and then they can say, "Hey, look, Voidbringers. Ceasefire and team up on them?" The Parshendi, however, managed it better by getting a very large army engaged in low-intensity conflict for a long period in a reasonably defensible area.
  22. You think Zane is creepy now. Just wait until his viewpoint chapters.
  23. The only question is how they got them in the first place. Otherwise, yeah, looks good.
  24. To clarify, what I think is that all orders of the Knights Radiant can "attune" their Shardplate and access extra features, and possibly convince it to allow their Surgebinding through while still blocking hostile Surgebinding (assuming the reason Szeth has trouble using his powers from within Shardplate is because it's designed to protect against them and not because his power source is opposed to Shardplate) as well as producing the characteristic Radiant glow and glyphs. This would mean that so far Dalinar has not demonstrated any powers specific to only some orders, and possibly not any depending on whether the special Shardplate abilities are powered by the user or are simply switched off and could theoretically work for a non-radiant with some alterations to the Plate. I'm also figuring that the visions are being projected to him instead of him actually tracking them down somehow. I think this because at least two and possibly three people have accessed the visions (Gavilar, one of the death-babbling sources, Dalinar) but never at the same time. Also, it doesn't appear to drain his spheres, but that might not mean anything.
  25. I don't think Vin and Elend were Champions in the same manner as Honor is talking about. Getting Odium to pick a Champion in the same style would be counter-productive, because Vin, Elend, and Marsh allowed their respective Shards to effect the world without being subject to a straight power-block by the other. For Honor and Odium, I figure that they made some sort of deal, and while they both have Champions they're restricted to only using their Champions, their creatures, and whoever their Champions can get to sign up. This would be a good thing because Honor is in no shape to be countering Odium, but Dalinar is capable of stabbing The Blightwind right in the face if need be yet incapable of doing anything if Odium declares every day to be Earthquake Day. I don't think Szeth is Odium's Champion, because he's bound to his Oathstone, a binding restriction on what he does and not at all the sort of thing that agrees with being the Champion of anyone but Honor, Shard of doing things because you promised to.
