1 second superstrength is also Duranium Enhanced Pewter.

I could probably beat that if wrangling with my poorly-bound copy of Lord Of Chaos didn't tend to discourage me from finishing it. Anyways, book 10 mostly has things start to happen, and then come book 11 they actually happen. The Egwene and Mat plots actually have things happen in them, but the rest not so much.

The origin of Shardplate and Shardblade
name_here replied to Telcontar's topic in Stormlight Archive
As I pointed out... somewhere (ironically I just finished reading an article about memory) the supply of Shardplate seems to be strictly limited. Given the limited supply, Honor would only want to give it to people he felt sure would not misuse it. It's also seemingly designed to be most effective when used in accord with the ideals, so giving it out isn't a blank check. Additionally, Honor is big on binding oaths, so making a deal where the Radiants get Shards if they act in accord with their oaths is in character for him, as such things are traditionally a two-way street. -
why are soulcasters more powerful than windrunners?
name_here replied to master's topic in Stormlight Archive
Soulcasting takes an outrageous amount of stormlight. The gemstones on the Soulcaster are much larger than spheres, and Soulcasting two people into smoke blew one of them out. -
I'd expect the Highstorm spren, if any, to be at Origin. I forget whether Cusicesh looks towards or away from Origin, but given that Roshar is round that distinction may be academic

Well, I see a possible explaination: AonDor comes from the user and primarily produces external effects Dakhor powers rely on the sacrifice of others and primarily produces self-enhancement ChayShan comes from the user and produces self-enhancement.

Honor is dead, but dead's a relative term when it comes to Shards. Devotion and Domination were long dead during Elantris, but their magic systems were in perfect shape.
-
They're apparently closely related to fundamental forces. Szeth has Pressure and Gravity, the others have yet to be named that I'm aware.

Uh, the prophecies only appeared to be vague enough that anyone might fall under the heading, at least once Ruin was through with them. It clearly refers to a Feruchemist, for one thing.

Actually, the prayers are generally written in glyphs, which most lighteyed men can read and write. The gender distinction is only for the Alethi alphabet, which is why the Stormwardens get away with apparently inventing a pictographic writing system and writing books with it. Which also means they are one of the only organizations of which all members are capable of communicating by spanreed without needing a scribe, causing me to suspect they're up to something. Male ardents can also write the Alethi alphabet, and there's no evidence much came of it. Maybe the writing-related system is used by a Radiant order associated with a female Herald? Possibly Shallan's order, since her bonded spren vaguely resemble glyphs. That could have become culturally enshrined.

Well, there's been a very large number of recordings made over time, most recently by that interlude viewpoint character. So it can be expected to persist, but where did it come from?

On the realmantic implications, the writing reminded me of the Vorin practice of burning prayers. As one of the characters pointed out, it seems odd that a supposedly all-powerful entity needed prayers burned in order to recieve them (or something like that). But we know the Almighty is a Shard, and Ruin and Preservation were unable to read anything written in metal, which was integral to the Scadrial magic systems. So if prayers need to be burned because Honor couldn't see writing, that would imply writing is central to at least some of the Roshar magic systems. And the effect on the spren is clearly a result of writing, simply making and saying or hearing measurements has no effect and it's not a matter of the person actually looking at it being aware of the writing. Also, the effect ceases if the measurement is erased. The primary issue with this theory is that prayers are in ink, while the experiment was conducted in chalk on slate, but Honor might not follow exactly the same rules as the Scadrial Shards and have the blinding effect partially based on content instead of material.

I wonder if the spren wards the highstorms away from the city somehow, at least to an extent. That would explain the name. Everyone who is nearby feels drained afterwards, possibly indicating that it's drawing power from the crowd to use in the process. I also think it's a composite spren, made up of all the spren of a certain type, hence the rapidly shifting, nonrepeating faces.

Okay, distinction time: Quantum Mechanics is the physics of interactions between individual atoms and sub-atomic particles Classical Mechanics is the physics of interactions between larger objects. The term may also exclude relativity. The math of Quantum Mechanics is actually somewhat well-understood, although it is generally believed that particles exist which have not yet been detected. Why this math is correct is far less well understood, but all theories explaining the Double-Slit experiment that have serious support produce the same results because those results are the ones that occur. Currently, there is no unified set of rules that can be applied to both without modeling an interaction between large objects as the interaction of 3 * 10^23 or more atoms for eighteen kilograms of water.

Yeah, Preservation did win the Shard duel with Ruin, despite coming from behind due to investing a larger portion of power into Scadrial and being forced to lobotomize himself to imprison Ruin. I mean, it could have gone better but could also have gone a whole lot worse and Preservation was virtually incapable of thought during most of the critical events as well as being overmatched in terms of power. Plus, the prophecy was accurate on some details about Sazed that could not reasonably be considered to be requirements for creating Harmony, specifically him being neuter and estranged from the rest of the Keepers. So he had at least some precognition. I figure Ruin did as well, and Preservation wrote down a prophecy referring to the segment of the giant cloud of possible futures he prefered, with some critical details only obliquely referred to so Ruin would miss them and edit the clearer parts.

The experiment tested for that. The male ardent made and said three measurements, and the female ardent wrote the third measurement without having told him which she would write in advance, and the effects were instantly apparent to the male ardent. EDIT: The double-slit experiment is probably the most widely known Quantum physics experiment. Most general-education physics classes cover Classical Mechanics, so the double-slit experiment is out of their official curriculum as it has negligible influence on interactions between macro-scale objects. Quantum Physics is most definitely accepted science, it's just not terribly applicable for most people. General-education physics covers a number of the notable Classical Mechanics experiments, like finding the values of Columb's constant and the gravitational constant, and I assume Quantum Physics courses cover the double-slit experiment.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, no one has to actually look at the measurements in the Double-Slit experiment, they just have to be taken. The Spren experiment indicates that the figures must be written down.

I don't think the Parshendi are sufficiently big suckers to get themselves drawn into a six-year war because someone else planted an assassin with them. I also don't think they're big enough suckers to give an assassination order on someone they just made a treaty with because some guy said so. Also, Szeth's thoughts indicate that the assassination was done in traditional Parshendi style, with the all-white clothing and the incredibly overt nature of the attack to make sure the king knew he was coming.

Many people do not possess consoles. Also, some types of gameplay are much improved by a mouse, but I don't expect that matters in this case.

Adding energy counters entropy, which makes things fall apart over the long term.

I posted a precognition theory a while back. Anyways, I wouldn't read excessively much into Preservation being more successful at predicting the future than Ruin. His superiority at prediction is partially an illusion caused by Rashek's concerted effort to make the prophecy come true. Sure, he might have predicted that, but he might also have simply been hoping someone would read the bits he'd slipped into the prophecy and work it out. It's quite possible that Preservation didn't win because he was better at seeing the future but because he was better at predicting how people would act without the aid of precog and so could get one layer further up the IKnowYouKnowIKnow tree after they both reached the limits of their precog. Come to think of it, metal must have fouled up both Scadrial Shards' precognition something fierce, given how TLR's Atium gambit worked out despite it eventually being discussed out loud by that Second Generation Kandra. Also by Elend, but by my theory his Duralumin-fueled Atium would probably have given their future sight fits anyway. I guess it's theoretically possible Ruin didn't have any future sight at all, but Preservation didn't out-maneuver him to a sufficiently absurd degree for that to seem likely.

A possible explanation for how the Soulcaster got cut: Shallan's father was threatening to kill one of his sons with the Shardblade, Shallan grabbed something convenient and stabbed/clubbed him, he died before the Shardblade turned to mist and landed on it.

Roshar isn't really a wasteland where it's nearly impossible to grow crops. It's a stable, vibrant ecosystem that has completely integrated the Highstorms into its verdant landscapes. The Shattered Plains are more somewhat-sparse grassland than scoured wasteland, it's just that the plants hide whenever anyone walks by. Despite appearances, Roshar seems to have as much plant and animal life as Earth in comparable biomes.

I'm hoping for Assassin's Creed style myself. Except with an interface designed for the PC.

They require visual contact to create weaves but not to sustain them in most cases. Apparently it is sometimes possible to create weaves if they know the exact location of the target but lack visual contact. But anyway, Kelsier doesn't need to throw metal objects at Moraine, because she generally makes the classic Allomancer fighting mistake of wearing bits of metal constantly, allowing hostile Mistborn to shove said objects directly without bothering with flinging coins.
