It's probably possible to send yourself to Shadesmar through Awakening with the correct Commands. Vasher apparently knows a set that can consume a partial Breath to delete segments of memory, and there are probably others that can be used on yourself. I doubt you could send someone else to Shadesmar that way, though; it seems that they can only be used on yourself, much like "My Breath to yours. My life become yours." can't be used to get someone else's Breath. Come to think of it, that might be an actual Command itself and have a more specific varient that allows partial transfers or could be performed at range with Audible Command.

So I have some big Meta Questions about Allomancy

No, Allomancy is Preservation because it counters entropy by increasing energy while Hemalurgy destroys energy and Feruchemy is energy-neutral. -
So I have some big Meta Questions about Allomancy
name_here replied to phoenixgod's topic in Mistborn
1. From what I can tell, Allomancy wasn't exactly created by Preservation, and the details of how the powers function are not within his control. Gold and Aluminum in particular are kind of useless because they're the paired opposites of Electrum and Duranium, which work in ways that don't have useful opposites. Since electrum is the gold alloy and gold shows you your past, electrum shows you your future. Since aluminum depletes your metals to no effect, duranium depletes them to devastating effect. Pairing like that is pretty fundamental to Allomancy, and you literally could not have the powers the alloys do without the elemental metals having the powers they do. And they do have to affect you, because they're Internal metals. 2. Pretty sure it was specific to the mists. Remember, exactly sixteen percent of non-allomancers exposed to the mist for the first time in every group that entered the mists turned into allomancers. That would imply that there were a whole lot more people who could be made into allomancers than actually were. As for why, presumably Snapping literally everyone who could be Snapped would deplete Preservation's power too badly. 3. Most likely we'll see some of them. -
Um, Honor has the demonstrated ability to send visions to Knights from beyond the grave. If he knew the Shardblades were going to get shut off, couldn't he simply have said so? Also, all the Windrunners would have been bonded to honorspren back when they had their Blades and Plate. So I assume something has changed since the Recreance.

I would remove Vasher from consideration, since the Warbreaker AA seems to have been written by someone who was not familiar with the effects of the Eighth Heightening, specifically the ability to Awaken inorganics. Vasher would know perfectly well that it was definitely a real thing.

The Identity of the Man Kaladin Killed
name_here replied to Cheese Ninja's topic in Stormlight Archive
He's in some form of contact with Amaram, and talked him into killing Kaladin's squad. There was a Stormwarden in the room at the time, it's not unreasonable to assume he was Restares. But no confirmation. It would also make sense for him to be a Stormwarden who communicated via spanreed with Amaram, given that they apparently use glyphs as a primitive pictographic alphabet. That would resolve the primary issue with using them for conspiracies, namely needing to have trustworthy women on either end reading the messages out loud. -
Best Brandon character *spoilers*

I'm not too fond of Kaladin myself. He's just so whiny all the time. Dalinar is in the ring with Vin, Vasher, and Hrathen for #1. -
I think the Oathpact was a deal between Honor and Odium where they both restricted their activities to fighting on Roshar through various subordinates, specifically the Heralds and the Unmade. While Honor had ten people holding Honorblades, Odium could not attack him directly or try to shred the planet. As part of the deal, the Heralds spent time between Desolations getting tortured, and Honor got to do something with the Unmade. Once the Heralds quit, the Oathpact could no longer constrain Odium entirely, and he killed Honor. Since Taln still has his Honorblade, Odium can't just obliterate the planet. So, why would Odium agree to this? Well, it's possible he didn't. Honor is the Shard of binding oaths and promises, so he might have somehow been able to force Odium into accepting it.

I'm pretty sure Shallan's dad had the Shardblade and Shallan took it off his corpse. People finding that out would... not end well. Also, she doesn't have Shardplate and probably doesn't really know much about how to use the Shardblade, so it's entirely possible anyone she tried to sell it to would decide they'd rather take it.

He could be in a different, possibly adjacent, order.

I wonder if the name The Protector is more accurate than assumed. It might shield the city against the highstorms, hence why it's looking towards Origin. Certainly, a successful port city would need some shielding against the highstorms, Kharabeth is protected by an entire mountain.
-
Can't keep that man down, odds are good on him intervening in some way.
-
Standard Blades are six feet long. You don't get larger swords unless you're a JRPG character or a mech. They might have formerly been re-sizable, but there's no indication that they are now.

I've never bought the theory that Shard powers, as distinct from what they do with them, are limited by Intent, on account of how thoroughly Rashek and Vin trashed things with Preservation. Stuff like creating or destroying matter, moving physical objects, and other things not directly connected to their magic systems seems to be stuff all Shards can do. I figure there's no reason Sazed can't intervene, but he doesn't like picking sides. He wasn't terribly confrontational as a human, and now he is literally named Harmony, which is not conducive to favoring one side in a conflict. I don't think he believes he has the right to pick winners simply because he has the power to do so. If he were restricted in how he could use his power, he could simply have told Marsh to handle this, or he could have simultaneously destroyed some of the Vanishers and boosted Wax's Allomancy.

I have noticed that Reverse Lashing works better on things that are actually in the air. Szeth thinks it's because things in contact with the ground are more heavily bound to it, which has two problems: 1) He's altering gravity anyway, why should it matter how strongly it affects something before he alters it to point towards whatever he's set the Reverse Lashing on? 2) From a physics standpoint, the gravitational force is practically the same on something on the ground and something ten feet off the ground However, if the gravitational force is assisted by pressure manipulation, that makes more sense, because there's more air to produce inward pressure.

Inquisitor using Electrum in Book 1? *spoilers*
name_here replied to DariusJenai's topic in Mistborn
I figure that the Lord Ruler did not want to give the Inquisitors Atium because they were subject to Ruin mind-control in the event of his escape, and he couldn't trust that they would avoid being nudged to squirrel it away in a "safe" location prior to that, so he pretended he wasn't giving them Atium because it would undermine his supposed market control by shrinking his stockpile and finding Seers to spike them with also chewed through his stocks too fast to be a regular thing. -
Lerasium is literally solid power, and when it's burned the power goes into the Mistborn and stays with their descendents instead of returning to Sazed.
-
Most likely, it will precipitate out as Atium over the next 1024 years, possibly starting from when the crystals Kelsier shattered regrow. Unless the Pits are actually totaled for good, in which case Ruin's Shardpool will fill up over the same period and some lucky guy will get to spend thirty seconds being told to touch nothing by Sazed when he stumbles into it.
-
Szeth's is much, much smaller than Dalinar's Blade. His is meant for being used in one hand, the others are two-handed swords that Shardbearers wield in one hand with ease.
-
Making Lerasium costs Sazed. Power going to people being Mistborn is power he can't do anything else with, and also lowers the ratio of Preservation to Ruin in his Shard combo, potentially resulting in him going kill-crazy and destroying all the worlds. Also, Mistborn are capable of mass-murder on a grand scale, and teams of Mistings can do most of the societally useful stuff Mistborn can that does not involve killing people.
-
I personally suspect they were dishonored by killing ordinary people in massive quantities and not by active intervention by Odium or by the Recreance. I note that the glow effect on the Plate went out as people started killing each other over them. The burning eyes effect was mentioned explicitly in that vision, so I assume Blades always worked like that. Also, while they're different, they feel like they're designed to be used as a set. Shardblades are too heavy to be used in the deadly quick sweeps Shardbearers favor without the enhanced strength provided by Shardplate.
-
I sort of figured he was basically a super-powerful entity with the full set of human attributes, then his attributes got split up into forces when he exploded for some reason.
-
Thirdly, it's possible she's simply too late, the Desolation is on and knowing about the Parshmen-Voidbringer connection no longer matters. Besides, Taln is manifest, so what Jasnah has or hasn't figured out is not terribly important compared to what Taln knows.

Agreed, assessing the viability of the Parshendi strategy without knowing their objectives is complete guesswork. They deliberately engineered this situation in the first place, by blatantly assassinating Galivar and pulling back onto the Shattered Plains, so presumably they're content with it. It's alternately possible that the reason they aren't pressing the war is that they couldn't win if this turned into a straight fight with the Alethi, and their plan is to keep this siege going until Alethkar collapses and the Highprinces are forced to abandon the war to stabilize their lands. Their losses might not be as heavy as the Alethi believe, as it's possible their mixed-gender army got badly underestimated in terms of size

My theory is that he's in control of Shara, since it's basically the only place which might potentially have a secure ruler who is not Rand. Also, they need new Dreadlord recruits from somewhere.
