Be an Allomancer (Misting or Mistborn) it's not matter of Quantity of Investiture. It's a fact of Connection to Preservation (and you may say "they have more Preservation") and the twisting this carry in their SpiritWeb. About the Innate Investiture. I always suspect that Brandon call it, the surplus of Investiture someone have, but I can't actually prove it The Spirit-Web/Soul is made of Connection and it has some "resonance" that allow it to work well with other Investiture with the same "resonance" without create Inferference. The "Resonance" is what we call "Identity"

I am unsure if this may work (honestly I think the amount of Investiture in enough to become a Sliver, but I can't be sure)...if you want to remove the hemalurgy, you may re-create the hypotesis with "A Soulbearer held an Honorblade and......". Now I can't say if you can store Stormlight in Metals, for the same reason I think you can't use well Stormlight to Awakening...This kind of raw Investiture isn't sticky, it would leak away from the metal (and any other No-Polestone material). Anyway I don't think you gain Surgebinding with this method, you will not gain anything except maybe the Sliver status for the amount of Investiture you held

This night I had an idea but I need some little extra information about how I got to this conclusion: We know that every Breath carries with itself a shade of deity and places the owner a step a bit closer to the godhood. This manifest itself in every passive benefit of the Heightenings, in this bonuses there is the Infinite lifespan. Now I took this concept and I reverted it. Instead of coming closer to a target (in this case, from Human to god), I considerate someone who go farther from his own origin (from Human to .....something else, not necessary an improvement) and in the end it's quite the same thing, just the semantic changes. My point is: The Soul knows how old are you, matches your age with your species (probably through everyone's Connection to "Humanity" or the "Perfect Human") and in the end force you to aging and die with the Human's criteria. But what would happen if someone goes Spiritually far from Humanity? I talk about beings like a Highest Heightening People, Inquisitor, Mistwrath-Kandra and Hoid. It's possible that their Souls simply know their actual ages but they are less bound to the "humanity check" than a fully human is. I want to remember that almost all this beings have an altered lifespan (yes also an Inquisitor lives longer than a Human being). It's possible that my insomnia made me come to a wonderful idea for once.

Anothers: Religion Q: You might get a laugh out of this, Brandon. You have Jasnah give such a good argument for the atheist point of view that I thought, well Brandon is probably an atheist (as I am). Then I started watching your writing class videos. Oops! In one of them you say that you feel you can successfully draw an atheist character. I certainly agree. ;-) Jasnah does seem to lack compassion to some degree, but I insist that religion is not necessary for one to be compassionate. You draw characters wonderfully! Lift is one of my favorites, so I am definitely looking forward to Arcanum Unbounded. A: Kaladin is agnostic, which most people miss in these discussions, and is the series argument for a compassionate non-believer. Dalinar is a liberal theist, and Navani an orthodox theist. Surgebinding and End-X classification (continue from a previous WoB) Q: So, I've been wondering for a while, which does Surgebinding classify as? Surgebinders don't use their own native investiture to power magic so I suppose that's the case for being classified end-positive, but they do have to go get some investiture and once they use it it's gone and they have to go get more, so that almost seems end-negative. Thanks in advance for any answer even if it's a quick RAFO! A: The more picky scholars would argue it is end neutral, because the power must be in the system before the Magic can initiate. But others would admit that the spheres are a delaying response for an end-positive system. You're looking too much past the mark with your read. Look at the work done as part of what is in the system. Investiture is not leaving the system in surgebinding, it is doing work, creating potential energy in most cases. Hemalurgy and godmetals Q: If a Worldhopper were somehow able to spike themselves with god metals from each shard world e.g. Honor/Cultivation/Odium spike, would it be possible for them to make a miniaturized version of a new shard, or would they just gain powers granted to them by the spikes? A: RAFO Elantris's effect and Replicate Elantris Q: In Elantris did Elantris ever not exist? like before it was built did the Shaod choose people? and if it did was their power the same? I'm mostly asking that if they were to build another Elantris in Teod would Elantrians be just as powerful over there? A: Yes, there is a point where Elantrians didn't exist. Excellent question. The rest is a RAFO. Lord Ruler alternative deaths Q: If they somehow killed the lord ruler in a conventional manner, would he still have turned to dust? A: Yes. The metalminds would have stopped being tapped, and the spirit of the matter would probably still have had this strange effect. Not it didn't happen to the bodies of the shard vessels who died. Koloss' death and Hemalurgy Q: Would Koloss spikes turn off when they die too, so dead ones shrivel up like raisins? A: Hemalurgy changes the spirit. So not necessarily. Shallan and Tetrachromacy Q: I will have to go back to the books to find specific examples of why I thought this but does Shallan have Tetrachromacy? A: An interesting theory. Possession in the Cosmere (continue from a previous WOB) Q: Oh? Is this meant to be a cryptic tease (because I have ideas!), or am I am just forgetting something that will make me facepalm when someone reminds me of it? A: No, it will make sense in the next book. Comment: someone pointed that He may refer to Tanavast's Shadow who replace the original rider of the storm's mind Q: Are you talking about Ruin/Harmony controlling Hemalurgic Constructs and Odium controlling Voidbringers... or is there something else? A: You will see soon. Dilaf's wife and possible jerk Elantrian Q: Dilafs wife, did the Elantrian who "healed" her know what Dilaf was? A: Rafo I think again to have report all the missing WoB

Trell is Odium - The Sign of the "Red Eyes"
Yata replied to TheBlueShifting's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well not really, the name is created as the "godmetal is known" therefore in the case of Scadrial we have Lerasium and Atium, but for example if Endowment's Vessel was replaced and just then for some reason He/she creates a godmetal....it would be called as the new Vessel I presume.- 70 replies

[All Spoilers] Brandon Can't Save Roshar as an Author
Yata replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ok, what's the matter in having a magic System fragmented ? About the manipulation of other Shards....It's not really different from the probably hundreds of minor shardworld without a Shard, and honestly...If you want to create a mess, did you choose a planet near a guy big as you that may piss off and couteract ? Another little point, we don't actually know how Breize is now...But I don't think it's a good place after thousands of year with Odium, would it really be a tragedy if the place remains awful ? -
[All Spoilers] Brandon Can't Save Roshar as an Author
Yata replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The main problem is that Cultivation will know almost to the 100% that the Odium Shard will corrupt her...She is a Vessel who kept a Shard of Adonalsium for 10 thousands years. She will have a perfect Realmatic Knowledge and a good future sight...there is no way she will not be able to predict her own fall if she took Odium. -
As far as I know, Brandon made the Alluminium as Anti-Investiture for his rarity in a pre-industrial era. Now the aluminium is pretty common because we have method to refine it. But in the ancient time, the Aluminium in his mineral form was one of the rarest material on Earth and many cultures workship it as a godly metal

About the "no soul" As other said before, Hoid has at 100% a Soul, we have multiple WoB and an implicit proof because it's a living being and in the Cosmere almost everything living and unliving has a Soul (also if I think the Alluminium has not Spiritual Aspect, or something really similar...and this cause its freaking weird proprieties) About the "rewriting Soul" The problem here, is that we have a WoB who said Hoid searched the Lerasium bead to become an Allomancer (this don't mean that he actually used to performe this, but just because He wanted it at the beginning). With the Lerasium's effect (knowing the proper way) you may achieve almost everything with your spiritweb (with the exception of symbiotic magics that need a partner, but you may probably gift to yourself Surgebinding without Spren, probably) and as effect it's almost broken (to be honest I think it's how the first terrismen got their Feruchemy). If Hoid as a way to change at will his Spirit Web, the Lerasium will be useless (my eyes bleed as I wrote it, my beloved Lerasium) so we must think in the pattern that he probably twisted his Soul with the Magics he gathered (we know that his Soul is very different from an Human's one) but He can't change it at will...He would also be a counter intuitive with his Soul-healing proprieties. His Soul probably will try to "heal" to its previous state.
-
It's possible, maybe the 1000 years of TFE seems to point aganist, but possible. I had another idea on Feruchemy's origin but it's really counterintuitive.

Other little update to the Wobs: Possession in the Cosmere Q: I've been thinking about possession within the Cosmere - is it possible for beings (dead, alive, or inbetween) to possess other beings in the Cosmere? Allomantic control over spiked creatures, and the existence of the Lifeless are both close to the idea, but neither is quite what I've been trying to imagine. I think I am looking more into whether one being's cognitive (and/or spiritual) aspect can fully replace (temporarily or permanently) another's. I imagine the victim would natively fight this, similarly to how Rashek's spiritual aspect resisted his anti-aging trick, but... is such a thing possible? A: This is possible. (There are places where you've already seen the process either begin, or work partially.) Nightblood's grow (I had this idea for ages, I am glad someone asked it) Q: Is Nightblood any more Invested now than when she was created? A: RAFO. (Good question.) End-positive and End-Negative (a bit long, but it's a good explaination) Q: is the creation of Skaze end-negative? A: So, you're not quite using the term right. The terms "End negative" and "End positive" refer to a specific system--in most cases, we're talking about the individual(s) using the magic. Do you draw more magic out, or is it powered by your own native investiture? Awakening is what we call end neutral, despite the fact that (obviously) the Breaths came from someone else in the first place. That's not the point in contention here--do the same number of breaths (the same amount of investiture) continue to exist in the system as you're manipulating the magic. In something like AonDor, you are drawing out much more power than you put in--end positive. That power is put to work doing something, such as healing a body, or creating a blast of power. The Skaze, like the Seons, were created when a Shard was splintered. The terminology doesn't quite work there, at least not in the way that scholars in the cosmere would use it. The question from the physicist in this thread about where investiture goes, and what it means for a shard to have access to certain amounts of power, is related to all of this. I'm hoping to be able to find some time to craft a response there, as there are some fundamental understandings of the magic that are relevant to the discussion that i should point out. Roshar's knowledge of Alluminium Q: On the topic of aluminium, will we hear soon about how Rosharans know how to soulcast it? Was it natural on the planet and the source was depleted? Or was it brought over at some point in history? A: Those are excellent questions, and a RAFO, unfortunately. Stormlight's titles and themes Q: Does Oathbringer follows the theme of that the title is an in-universe book? Because i thought Oathbringer was the name of Dalinars old shardblade? A: The first will be made apparent as the series progresses. (Yes, that's a RAFO.) Nightblood VS Shards Q: if you were to chuck Nightblood into a Shard that had the intent of Evil would Nightblood splinter it? A: Splintering is a completely different process from what Nightblood does. Hoid and age Q: Now we have some idea of how Hoid changes his age? A: I haven't said if this is a method Hoid uses or not, but it's part of the reason the Lord Ruler turned to dust when he lost his metalminds. (His body tried to match the age his spirit said he was.) Soulcast High Invested Target Q: is soulcasting an invested object harder ? And if it is a human (lets say, an allomancer) but he is not burning any metal, would he be as easy as soulcast as any "normal" person ? A: It is harder to soulcast an invested object, but soulcasters--by their nature--are used to dealing with this. When allomancers aren't burning metal, they are not considered highly-invested. I think to have reported all the new Wobs...If I missed something let me know

@VirtuousTraveller well in the end yes. As far as we know the only requirement to Ascend is to have (also for a limited time) an X amount of Investiture. All the Investiture carries with itself a Soul-expansion and a Intuitive use of the power itself (the Investiture want to be used and if no one directly it, It develop a mind of its own)...Simply when you have more than a certain threeshold you are no longer limitated by the mortal magics (the magic systems as we know) and you may use directly the Investiture to make...almost everything (expending a rightful amount of power) as we see with the Ascended Ones' feats.
-
As @Zathoth said on Roshar the only knowed way to obtain some Aluminium is with Soulcast. We don't actually know if there are natural way to mined it there, but remember that Roshar's culture has almost no knowledge of metallurgy.

I think we have a WoB who said that Glys isn't in the box. Another Sharder explained (in some post I can't remember at the moment) that with some case of Autism, little personal object may help the a person from being overhelmed by external stimulation and keep the calm...Therefore I think the box is just a way to Renarin to cam himself
-
Hi guys, I just recived some interesting WoB from Brandon in his Oathbringer's update, I wanted to post them under the already opened topic in Stormlight's subforum...But some of this are from books other than Stormlight, therefore I think it's better to put them here (some mod may change or delete it, if I am wrong). Maybe a better format is required: Scadrial: Q: Can a Misting hurt himself burning the wrong metals or a bad alloy ? A: Not really, but they can swallow something they can't burn and end up with metal poisoning. Kind of similar. Q: Thanks for the answers...So we may tell that a Misting's Allomancy is "safer" than a Mistborn's one. Maybe because it's the original/natural way how Allomancy manifest itself (without godlike interferences) A: Sure, you could potentially say that. You can still make yourself sick, though, so I'm not sure. I guess it comes down to your definition of "hurt." But I'd call it safer, yes. Q: When someone Ascended with the Well, if He don't use the power and neither release it...Would He keep his status for long time ? A: No, unfortunately. Realmatic mechanisms: Q: Once someone refuses the call of the Beyond, may it change idea later ? (and reach the Beyond) Or is a one shot possibility ? A: It may change later Cosmere Timeline: Q: What is the event showed in the books, that are earlier in the Cosmere's Timeline ? (just to understand if WoK's prologue is before or after Elantris's event) A: I believe WoK prologue is before everything else you've seen. Some of the Dalinar flashbacks show scenes pretty early as well.

I just obtain a WoB about my own question, here
-
Double post...but there are months from the previous. I asked to Brandon the answer and obtain an answer here:
-
I am an awful person and I thanks to this update I have the chance to ask something to brandon. I don't know if I can post all the WoB here, because some of them are not related to Stormlight Archive (and with the actual debated politicy about WoB I don't know exactly where to post it). Anyway...The end of the first draft is always more near.

yes, it's the reason I said "something like" 4 years

[All Spoilers] Brandon Can't Save Roshar as an Author
Yata replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's not really relevant to the post, but Odium was trapped on Braize long before Honor's death (Honor died after the Recreance and Odium was already trapped on Braize at least for thousands of years) -
Coppermind says something like 4 years (Adolin was born in the 1150 and Renarin in the 1154)

[All Spoilers] Brandon Can't Save Roshar as an Author
Yata replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Maybe Roshar would be safe and Cultivation will splinter Odium (to remain in the spectrum of "it's splintering time" that @teknopathetic proposed) -
Well for example, there are WoB from the AMA of the last year on Reddit that escaped the catalogation on Theoryland. The problem is actually to skip the passage where the Staff have to manually search the WoB among many topics or platforms
-
@Chaos at the moment the only easy answer is to create a topic (I think a subsection is too much) where everyone with a WoB may post it there and maybe suggest the relevant Tags. It would be good also as a method to recover old WoB (as the one I talked in the previous post) that for some strange reasons never reached Theoryland. Maybe when a member of the Staff place those WoB on Theoryland, he/she may edit the post with the right link to theoryland and some sentence (like "Edit: Wob added to theoryland at link:-------")

I becomed an Highprince, I lost all my beloved Feruchemy....I am sad
