A theory about Yolen and the 4th Era of Mistborn
Yata replied to Rasarr's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Maybe his goal is different from what we think...The whole concept of "thorn apart a thing and then rebuild it, but it's not more the same thing" may be as a Hoid's target aganist of a side effect...maybe he wants again a God but not Adonalsium (in the sense of the pre-shattering Adonalsium). BUT while I am writing this answer...I already found a counter-example, Frost implied that Hoid could mess Adonalsium's plan. It's not really relevant if Hoid could or not mess it. But Frost seems to think that Adonalsium's plan is actually a good plan, this don't fit realy well with a God you had to kill because He planned your destruction -
Where Is Adonalsium’s Investiture? [AU Spoilers]
Yata replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I am a bit @Confused (ok bad joke), did you read all the WoB ? There are almost all the logical steps to point to Stormlight as H/C/H&C's Investiture: - The overpowered Gold Twinborn can't create a Radiant Spren because the "investiture is from another god/shard" (in this case Preservation) - But it's at least theorically possible using Progression Surge (fueled by an highstorm to remove the power level problem) instead of Feruchemical Gold. - This would (probably) mean that Stormlight is from the same source/god/shard as Radiant Spren are. - As you said Radiant Spren are made by a mix of H&C's Investiture, with the previous step we may conclude that probably (if we don't put strange exceptions) is made by the same Source. If I made some incredible logical mystake please tell me where...because I see quite logic in what I wrote. -
I will try to find it, but as you said. Breath are not stealable "because they are too physical, but you may steal a Divine Breath with Hemalurgy"

Where Is Adonalsium’s Investiture? [AU Spoilers]
Yata replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well there may be some Vaults of Adonalsium's Investiture somewhere. But there is no actually need of them, there is no oddity if you don't find one or more of them (I had to be honest, until yesterday I thought that Roshar had one of this Vault...as Stormlight). There is no "missing Investiture" in the Cosmere, The Shard got almost all the avaliable A's Investiture from what we know. -

Yes I just wanted to point that it's useless to think that "you have to find Adonalsium's Investiture somewhere" -
Where Is Adonalsium’s Investiture? [AU Spoilers]
Yata replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes..actually just in Scadrialan's Souls (that are "things" in a strictly PoV) the rest is yet in Harmony's being/body/shard. In the same way almost all the Adonalsium's Investiture that He didn't spend to made things was yet in Adonalsium....and now in the 16 Shards. -
A theory about Yolen and the 4th Era of Mistborn
Yata replied to Rasarr's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's possible that Adonalsium created also the fain life as "second wave of creation" (just because it replaces the first one, it may be a new form of life. Not only a destroyer) or as "expiration date for the Cosmere" (if we think He created temporary Universes in sequence) I didn't read the Liar's chapter (to be honest I wanted, but I don't find it) therefore I can't know if there are reference to the Adonalsium's attitude with his creation or the fain life....or if he bother at all -
Where Is Adonalsium’s Investiture? [AU Spoilers]
Yata replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
First of all I want to say that I read only the public essay of the AU therefore something I may say could be disproved by Essays I could not read yet. Now, returning in the topic: Your points 4 and 5 contraddicts each other...If there is need of Stormlight to sustains the Roshar's ecosystem from the beginning. The Hightstorm had to spread Stormlight from the beginning. As a little correction (it's not stricly relevant to the topic): Humans were on Roshar from before the Shattering (maybe just some ethnicity as the Shin.....I don't know), there are only two planets in the Cosmere where Mankind didn't predate Shards' arrive (and of course one of them is Scadrial) In the main topic, just yesterday we recive a WoB who may point to the "Stormlight is H&C's Investiture" (it's a bit long therefore I will put under spoiler tag for the length): My own model for Roshar was made with the basic concept of Stormlight as a Adonalsium's Investiture leaved there to sustain the ecosystem (but I considerated it an unique case in the Cosmere) but I probably failed too. Now that about the ambient Investiture: I imagine that almost all the minor Shardworlds have some magical weirdness caused by the simple Realmatic Interaction with the Investiture used to build them. There would be probably places where the Investiture condensate more, but nothing extreme (maybe Paaji's Eye) Of course we don't know actually how Adonalsium worked in those day, but if we used the assumption that He worked as a Uber-Shard with a galaxy wide influence. You may see how the whole Cosmere is a upscaled version of Scadrial (the only Shard made planet so far)... So the question would be, if you remove the perpendicularity and actually attive use of Investiture by Harmony. Where is Harmony's Investiture on Scadrial ? -
Also if a Nightmaw or an Aviar accidental worldhop...they will probably starve to death before they can reach any interesting place (maybe also just leave their own planet)

I don't think you realized that with this parts you probably destroyed my whole theory-model of Roshar's magic Anyway returning cold and logic (my poor model) maybe you actually got the answer to an old doubt of Roshar....The origin/source of Stormlight. You can't use Compounding power to made a new Radiant Spren born from Preservation's Power and you can do it (in theory) with Stormlight. This can imply something really big: - Stormlight isn't Adonalsium's Investiture and it's instead H&C's Investiture (I will say most Cultivation for reason not really relevant here) - If Stormlight is Adonalsium investiture, you may use pre-shattering investiture as universal Investiture( As to say "Adonalsium's Investiture may be dyed from external intent)" -
Now I understand what you want to say. Probably we read it in different way, I read it as "regard of Investiture" as "there aren't requirements"(no sDNA restriction) and "regard of a planet" as "without the need of specific resources". Surelly I don't know there weren't Cosmere-wide use of Hemalurgy, If I don't remember wrong we have actually a WoB about. But I don't think her essay says something about the effective uses of Hemalurgy in other places.
-
If you (with the right knowledge) take a piece of pure iron and smash into someone chest on Roshar (for example), with the will to steal a chunk of that poor guy's soul, you will get a standard Hemalurgic Spike fueled and linked to Ruin. There is no reason to think that she experienced to see Hemalurgy with another Shard's Investiture. In the end she may also never saw Hemalurgy works out of Scadrial but with her Realmatic Knowledge she understand how Hemalurgy works and deduct that it has no spacial limit (as quite all the magic systems)

[AU Spoilers] Selish Essay Contradiction
Yata replied to VirtuousTraveller's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think that Splintering a Shard and make the Vessel goes to the Beyond as a separate factors. Odium kills a Vessel and the splinter a Shard (it may be argued if this as part of the same process or separate actions), then the Vessel as any other being "spawns" in the Cognitive Realm and had there forever as Cognitive Shadow for their expanded Souls. But if there is some specific circumstance, who actually wanted to remain ? And I don't talk about "go aganist nature and everyone usually want to go Beyond"....I say, Do you really want to stay next to a Shard who had just killed you (when you was as powerful as him) and possible can thorn apart also your soul if he want ? I will run away with almost all I have, the Beyond is probably the best chance to "survive" (yeah I know it's a strange term for a deadman) -
A theory about Yolen and the 4th Era of Mistborn
Yata replied to Rasarr's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Rasarr I had only a doubt, but it's a big one. Frost is a Yolish Dragon and Brandon said it's not a Worldhopper...this mean He is on Yolen (for the definition of worldhopper). Hoid is capable of sending and reciving message from him and Frost invited him to join wherever He is. -
Shardkeepers Podcast on Nightblood and Investiture
Yata replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
@Apfoster I think if that was the case, Vasher would not be so worried of a mass production of Nightblood-like. He killed his wife just because she didn't think it was a secret so important. -
I suppose that the answer is "Heralds' wisdom" or knowledge from everywhere Roshar's people cames. But if you prefer the official answer:

I agree with @Blightsong nothing in the essay suggests there was a merge of power before the D&D's murder (it may be also debated that now the powers are merging, also if I think they are). Instead I found quite a counterproof in the essay to the merging pre-death of D&D. Well maybe it's more a clue....If the Dor was there before the Splintering, you will not find Seon or Skaze (as Devotion and Dominion's Splinters) but you have to find....Dor's Splinter (I wanted to call it UnitySpren but It would be only a distraction). You used as a base for your idea my theory. I theoryzated that Seon and Skaze are artificial created removing a Splinter for the Dor and leave it develops Sentience...The essay pose those Splinters as natural born in the event of the Splintering...therefore probably I failed with this part too.

I am bit confused, I didn't think we have Kaladin's flashbacks in Oathbringer...only the Dalinar's one. Probably I missed something from the structure of the book -
Double post but I can't proprerly edit the previous (I don't know the reason): Cosmere and Quantum Physics Q: The scene in question is that interlude on SA where two scholars measure the size of spren, and they find that the size oscillates until measured, and then it remains fixed at the measured value. This is totally equivalent to projective measurements in quantum physics, was that your inspiration on this one? A: Yes, quantum physics plays a role in the way the cosmere works, and this was partially intended to display that. However, we do take a different route, as thinking about something can directly influence it in the cosmere. So it's more a fantastical version of quantum physics.

Yes, but I suppose it's depend of "worse from what point of view". For example, for the Alethi's culture dies fighting aganist a powerful enemy (Szeth) would be better than (for example) loses the reputation. In this context, sends a killing machine to murder you is a nice present to avoid to make you lose your reputation (and for example people like Sadeas would agree with this).

This is pretty awesome to know, so the reason is a faulty "biological function", probably some other weirdnesses with feruchemy are caused by the same reason (Hunger when you use F-Zinc for example and the accelerate sugar consume of the body) -
May I ask you, if you read this theory of mine Anyway I notice a couple of topic where we take the route of the off tipic speaking of Spiritual Aging and Immortality....I think it's better to create a specific new topic and move there this kind of discussions.
-
I don't think "Age" may be a Feruchemical attribute...after all, we have already Youth. And much more, "Age" is simply the difference between a birthtime to now, it does not exist as an actual concept. If you may steal it, you will probably be able to steal it with some metal who may steal Connection. As a counter-idea (but you will have really mad to try), if you spike out from yourself the Connection to your birth time (hoping to survive)...will you be an immortal drab? PS: After my reply I notice, we moved from Hoid's Soul to the Immortality in the Cosmere, maybe it's better to create a new topic (moving the more interesting ideas)

Thanks, I didn't know about the Selish preview. It was fashinating, well it confirm what I already thought, but one thing is a speculation and another saw it canon in a book...thanks again
