Hi guys, I am writing this post to expose a theory I worked on for a while, recently I got some new possible contros and I developed a derivated theory of the main one (but that I like very very less). The core concept of the theory for both the main and the derivate ones is that an Highstorm is actually a perpendicularity...a mobile one (to be honest I think it better to say that an Highstorm has a Perpencidularity at its inside) Pros: - An Highstorm spreads Stormlight...Investiture that comes directly from the Spiritual Realm (many WoB about Stormlight as lightbulb to the spiritual realm), a perpendicularity is a place where the Realms are spiked and the Spiritual is "in contact" with the phisical. - Shadesmar seems really poor of Stormlight, another clue about the direct travel Spiritual->Physical (with maybe some minor leak in the Cognitive, that may be the origin of the proto-Spren) - The Perpendicularities we saw are all in a liquid state and may be part of a greater waterpool (often called water of live in certain Cosmere Culture) and the Hightstorm is actually a great amount of water (as every storm's cloud) compressed together. The Highstorms help to grown plants and have some benefit to the living healt (I think it's the reason the "Herald's wisdom" suggest to go out in the Highstorm to wash) fitting well with the "water of life" concept - The phase where the Spheres get the Stormlight is actually the same phase when Listeners can obtain a new form and the phase where people willing or unwilling are slightly pulled out of the Physical (the "calm eye" of the Highstorm). - Roshar is a place where the boundary between the Realms are less strong, what is better than a Perpendicularity that regularly pass over the whole planet ? Contro: - We never actually saw a mobile perpendicularity The previous part is common by both the Main theory and the Derivate one. Now I will talk about the difference between the two: Main theory: Adonalsium's design We know that Adonalsium explicity created Roshar as we see it, We know that the Listener predate the Shards there and that the Listener were created by Adonalium to fit the Roshar's ecology. As other Rosharans' beings the Listener are quite dependant from the symbiosis with a Spren. My idea is that Adonalsium left on Roshar as part of his design a great "Investiture Vault"(I see it as a willing analogue to the Ruin's stolen power) to put in place the Invested Highstorm as a tool to made the Spren's birth naturally possible. The bounday between Realms are weaker and the Mind of the physical being may more easy influence-gave birth to the Cognitive beings (thanks also to the higher level of Investiture). A specific Adonalsium's Splinter was put in charge or developed on his own the purpose to carry and manage the Highstorm (of course I am talking of the Rider of the Storm). Pro to the main theory: - Roshar's ecology seems to be strictly dependent from Stormlight - Roshar's flora/fauna is high developed to the Highstorm (this is actually a doutbful pro, because the Highstorm may be a regular uninvested powerful Storm in the Ancient time) - This would fits to the theory who saw the Purelake as a Shard's Perpendicularity along with Horneater's peaks and leave a place for the Highstorm as other source perpendicularity Contro to the main theory: - A recent WoB said that is possible to create a Spren from Stormlight while isn't possible to create it from Preservation's power because it comes from a different WoB. This suggest that Stormlight is from one of the shard that are actually parents of the Radiant Spren (without put an exception like "Adonalium's Investiture as untainted Investiture may be used corrupted with an Intent and be used as Shard's Investiture) - The presence of an huge amount of Adonalsium's Investiture is something never saw in other places of the Cosmere and in my opinion it would be cause a Manifestation of Investiture to arose on Roshar (like if a Shard was Invested).... I actually think that the Fabrial aren't from H&C but this is quite an external topic in this theory. - The Drominad System's essay seems to point as First of the Sun as an unique case in the Cosmere, where you can find a perpendicularity without a Shard on the planet. This may be semanthic, but actually on Roshar the Adonalsium's perpendicularity may be masked by the presence of H&C or it's not so relevant because you may actually use the Shards' perpendicularities Derived theory: Cultivation's will Cultivation is the Stormlight's source (I have another topic in working called "Stormlight isn't of Honor"). Pros to the derivate theory: - More in line with the Shard's investiment on a Planet - Stormlight has healing and growing proprieties on large scale, this seems to fit Cultivation's mandate/Intent - If the Purelake's theory is false, we have a good candidate to the second Shard's perpendicularity on Roshar (thanks to the guys who informed me that the Purelake's perpendicularity is a theory not a confirmed fact) - It doesn't need to put exception to the Cosmere's mechanics Contros to the derivate theory: - How the hell Did Roshar's survive before the Shards' arrive ? I would really know your opinions about... Soon or later I will wrote all my Roshar's model PS: If you find some horrible grammar horror in the theory please let me know it...I will fix it as soon as possible

The IRE are not so similar to human to not point the difference and much more, if they are still seeking a Shard, why point to First of the Sun where there is no Shards ? Lastly, the Ire have quite knowledge of worlhopping to reach easier the Eye from the Cognitive instead of search it from the Physical PS: Sorry I notice only after that you are new to the forum, welcome

wait, wait,wait...Have we not a Official confirmation on Purelake=perpendicularity ? It was one of the main problems with my model of Roshar, I never wrote it on the forum, because I though that we have already the two Roshar's perpendicularities

I think the nexuses are simply the wasted solid lands of the Cognitive Realm, as our analogue...you may use the oceans. A "nexus" as standard meaning, is a place where somethings converge. In this case the vaste zone between two Shardworlds

Ehm Returneds are all another thing....I for resurrected people talked about people like Gawyx or other people "healed" in the time between their biological death and the Beyond. Szeth is fully alive, his string to the physical realm wasn't cutted yet. This is the reason at the beginning I discharged the idea of his Afterimage as a side effect of his healing when other people like Gawyx doesn't show any of those (from the same observer) I really wanted to go further in this topic, but I think I have to spoiler some of Secret History or Warbreaker to make a proper confrontation
-
Maybe the difference between Szeth and other "resurrected people" is that Szeth wanted to stay death, if his will-cognitive-soul has some power over his final journey. Probably his resurrection met some obstacle with for the unwilling subject.

Probably it's a side effect possible from every Returned's son...But in some way you have to "gain it"...Just to say, every Returned's son may be able to gain this feature but you probably need some mental gymnastic to trigger it. In the way I see it, the reason only the Royal line has this (and you may lose it, if you are no more in the royal line) is because the Idris' history teachs this.

So I am just turned from a Robot-Spren to an lightheart Honorspren...the hilarious part is that happened the day after I finished all the University's exams

The actual policy is to post the WoB in the rightful event's topic...But nothing prevent from create an unique topic with all the WoB of AU's signings...Just I think it's better to wait the tour's end. -
The only great thing that bother me in your interpretation is about Ashyn and Braize..two planets with cognitive live just near Roshar. I find strange they are not just near of Roshar's CR

I think they don't have actually infinite Investiture or something like this...They "simply" (if we may call it simple) convert energy-matter to Investiture (that is what actually the matter in the Cosmere is made) coded in metal. You may take two ways to explain it, one is more:phyisical, the other pretty spiritual. Physical explaination: You may see it as analogue to the Nutrient Feruchemy (at the moment I don't remember the metal, sorry). You actually convert the food/water into their equivalent in Investiture. You have that no more avaliable also when you stop storing. In the same way when you store...speed for example, you convert a part of the energy you would be able to use to move into Investiture coded in Steel. When you stop storing the energy is no more steal and the ability to move return to be used to move your body. Spiritual explaination (but @Spoolofwhool expressed it before me): Here you need to have in mind the Atium Feruchemy usage. With the Soul that pushes you into your rightful state When you store some attribute you are actually changing how your being is. This isn't something that the Soul doesn't like and pushes you to revert to your right status. You may imagine (i suppose) as a variable hemalurgy that don't change the template of a being but only an istance of it.

We have confirm that Nightblood may feed on Allomantic's power and Feruchemy's charge...so yes a Metalborn may hold Nightblood safety for a while (a Feruchemist may fuel nightblood with any kind of attribute not only from a Nicrosilmind). Just remember that Nightblood's hunger becomes greater and greater as long as he eats, so soon or later also a metalborn would find himself uncapable of generate enough Investiture.

Other than make people like me creating amazing theories to then destroy both my hope and my ego ? Anyway I have yet to process the whole fact but maybe He want us to be a bit confused about the Edgedancer's mantra ? Because it's possible that while Ym would be a decent edgedancer, he would be a great Truthwatcher...He was merciful but maybe his interesting was more about the learn from the guy he helped than help them itself. I had to be honest, this weird situation made me actually doubt about Stump's order and about a real distinct bound in the spren' look and mantras -
The idea of Royal Family that runned away for Shahara's murder is nice. But if I don't remember wrong the Royal family runned away at the beginning of Manywar. While Shashara died about to the end, She used Nightblood in the final steps of the war and Vasher was disgusted by the being they created....and killed her to stop the possible spreading informations about Nightblood's creation.

This quite surprised me...I thought that the Knife didn't glow simply because it was actually in the Cognitive Realm as any other metal object on Khriss, Nazh or Hoid. -
@Amanuensis I will avoid the argument of the "being brought back to life" or Gawyx will have one of them too. I remain of the idea of an effect of Nightblood not a power but a mere, visual apparence of Nightblood itself see as you may see a spren. We don't see any Bond powers working without Stormlight and I really doubt that Szeth is always carring Stormlight for the whole novella (he also spoke without any sign of leaking). Another option but I can't really argue with pro or contros. It's about the "voices in his head", He talked about a lot in WoR, maybe he is actually haunted by something.

Can a Shard Be Held by Two Vessels at the Same Time?
Yata replied to VirtuousTraveller's question in Cosmere Q&A
I don't think 2 Vessels may hold together a Shard, with the possible exception of a Shard that with some method is been split in two sub-Shards (something like two colossal Splinters)...I imagine that Half of the power of a Shard is more than enough to Ascend, but the problem is in the "linking" method and the nature of a Splinter when the "mother Shard" is still whole (to say when Honor was alive, there were already honorspren...but they were both beings and part of a greater being). -
New character in Edgedancer [Edgedancer Spoilers]
Yata replied to WeeDunadan's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have three possible explainations: - Jasnah was watched before but they discharged her for some reason - It is just too hard to follow someone who may change Realms or across almost the whole Roshar is seconds - Jasnah hid better her Radiancy and the Sleepless simply don't know about her -
Well Paalm wasn't really hidden...She simply doesn't have a giant pointer to her who yells to Harmony "Hemalugy here"...She was hidden as not Hemalurgy User is hidden. We don't even know if she was "hidden" because the Spike's metal as the specific side effect of "stealth" or simply because it's of another god (to say maybe a Lerasium's Spike didn't allow Ruin to notice you as Hemalurgy's user). Anyway when Suit dies any magic system on him would stop to work...therefore he would be a regular recent deadman and we know that Harmony take as one of his most sacred duty to meet the people before they go to the Beyond. Of course there may be some crazy stuff there, but I find it unlikely
-
Lift is as far as we know the physical being more close to the cognitive realm we have saw (thanks to the Old Magic). An Herald may be more invested but this alone doesn't mean they are more closer to the Cognitive Realm than a regular human (also if some recent WoB gives us some good information about Heralds' nature)
-
It may be both, the sentence may be read as "your death will serve us" because he can't no more spread sensible informations. or "your skill may be useful somewhere else" as actually exploit Suit for an actual purpose in other realms. My great doubt is that (as you saw in SH) Suit will be simply spawn in the Cognitive Realm and Harmony would intercept him....no "great escape" avaliable from the God who reign on Scadrial...
-
I will not say that is impossible in theory...But Brandon said he didn't want to dig in what the Beyond is...therefore I think we will not see somebody return from there. About the Kandra, yes the Kandra have a soul, like almost everything else in the Cosmere.....In the end remember that a Kandra quite an Human with a Cognitive Block and a trick to overcome that block
-
But the Honorblades vanish with their Herald when He/she dies
