  1. There are more efficent ways to obtain immortality also within the Metallic Arts alone. For me, now the Atium is quite worthless (magically speaking) for his own, its Alloys instead could be really interesting (mainly for Feruchemical effects, I suspect)
  2. For sake of completeness both the bindpoint and the metal are relevant into the "stealing and gifting stages" so if we consider only this fact both could be focus. The problem is we have not that as only fact, we have a tons of other informations. For example: - As I said before, the bindpoints are not part of Hemalurgy for the whole "Magic's Lifespan". An Hemalurgic Spike remains a Spike without relationship to bindpoint (the timeframe between the stealing and the gifting), so between Bind points and Metals...the "part" that is more costantly related to Hemalurgy is metal. - Also if you could argue with it, for now all the magic systems native of a planet share the focus, so if you accept Allomancy and Feruchemy as Metal based, the Hemalurgy have to be Metal based too. I forgot this before but Old Magic isn't a proper magic system. Indeed it seems to be more a specific and local effect from the Nightwatchers (in the same way the Stormfather could manipulate the Highstorm) ...so It has no need to be strictly coded with whatever the Roshar's focus is. - We know that on Scadrial, Metals are litterally gateway to Investiture at the point to blind being with higher senses, you may see this as a separate fact from the Focus. But it's a clue about the central point of Metal in Scadrial's magic. - We know there are multiple points for the same attribute, this alone balance the "if Metal is the focus, why Steel Spikes could steal 4 powers". But this is not really a problem as Feruchemy often allow to store diffrent kind of "sub-attributes" (without a better term) in a specific kind of Metalmind. For now I could find a clue for the Bind Points as Focus over the Metals except the absence of an explic "Metals are Hemalurgy's Focus" WoB
  3. Because Atium as a Spikes is a Joker true, but with the actual improved Metallurgic knowledge you could simply use the right Spike instead on rely on Atium for absence of (for example) a Nicrosil Spike. The Atium Feruchemy is interesting but not worth a really limited result. If you also manage to breed a Mistborn, in the current era an Atium user could be killed quite easly, Electrum is a counter-atium and Alluminium doesn't show an Atium Shadow at all. You could kill an Atium user in the same way you could kill Wax (for example). Again the Atium Alloy could be interesting in Allomancy and (much more) Feruchemy but it's a gamble
  4. This is interesting mainly for Realmatic Reason. The actual Atium's value is no more in the current era, there It was an overpowered metal only for TLR's sake and with the limitation he placed to hide all the ways to counter it. We could hope to see some of its Alloys in action, but it's really unlikely to find it
  5. Probably because you could use the right metal to steal the actual power from the Aviar or another one to steal the Bond from the one who is actually reciving the power from the Aviar. If you add to the result the metals that could steal everything (Atium and potentially Trellium)....You have "several metals would work". Returning to the actual "Hemalurgy's Focus" you may notice that not only the Metals are always required to performe Hemalurgy but much more the Metals have to be the Metallic Arts' one to be effective but for Hemalurgy's nature (low Investiture) they are less bound to the right percentage as also a bad Spike could hold enough Investiture to be functional. Lastly you may notice how the bindpoints comes into Hemalurgy only in the first and last stage of that magic, not always. You need to pierce the right bindpoint from the donor and the reciver but regardless...The Spike remains an Hemalurgic Spike also if left years without interact with bindpoints (potentially forever)
  6. Yata

    Ask Yata Anything!

My Favorite food is Pizza, yeah a bit a stereotype. Probably Vasher with his new army the Kalad's Squirrels. This it is hard, but I always loved the Odin's Spear Gungnir...It's related to a story I was working on. Usually 3-4 in a Month but now I am not reading at all.
  7. The Hemalurgy WoBs are really cool, to be honest I was always aganist the idea of the Focus-Shifting from Shardworld to Shardworld and this WoB indeed put another nail on that coffin....But I am sure there will be people that will keep to argue aganist because there is no a direct and explicit WoB on the matter (also if once you know a bit of Realmatic, the Focus-Shifting seems a great no sense. Thanks @supersteve524
  8. @Cowmanthethird Unluckly I am unable to find that WoB. I tried both on Theoryland and on the Reddit wob List without too success (also if usually I had an hard time to find WoB on Theoryland)
  9. Probably yes he gained a Connection to the System (well if the Stone are from the Selish System at all) anyway this Connections will be really weak in a long term. To say probably everyone is Connected to a some degree with almost all the Shards. Of course if you are in a System where the Shard invest into this Connection is by default magnitude Stronger than a foreign one (to say the greatest Alethi warlord is probably less connected to Dominion than an average Selish one...but it's still connected to the Shard. The Connections are not an on-off switch, you could be Connected into a wide degree with something else. About the hypotesis on the CS and their easier way to connect with something. Well it's possible, after all the CS is a being without a physical aspect (without a proper anchor someone could say) so they are more influenced by the Investiture they are affected and composed. But it's hard to say as for what we know, Kel could simply be affected by some sort of effect the IRE put in place on the palace and therefore it's not strictly related to Kel but instead to the Fortress
  10. Vasher gives off a Biochromatic Aura too (by WoB) in both the books. Simply the mix of color's choice, Color's envirorment and Rosharan untrained eyes made this think unnoticed.
  11. I strongly desagree with the possibility to store Steelpush into a Steelmind. But of course my position is good as your. The attribute storable into a metalmind is fixed. it's mostly like a keyhole, the Feruchemist pushes himself aganist and the appropriate attribute could actually pass it and nothing else. The metal is important of course also in the others Metal Arts in different ways, in allomancy the metal acts mainly as a form to define the Preservation's raw power. While in Hemalurgy the Metal acts most likely as it acts in feruchemy. This is the tricky part, when you turn a piece of metal into a Metalmind or a Spike, you are actually changing the keyhole and this enable the Compounding and whatever we could call burning Spikes. When Preservation's power is filtrer by the Metalmind/Spike it find an alterated "form". But to make your point works, you need a way to deformed the Steel's keyhole to accomodate Steelpush into. Notice that if your idea is right, the trick has to work with the Spike's proprierties too. So as the Steel Spike could contain physical Allomancy power you have to be able to store your physical Allomany power in it, something really similar (but restricted to an Allomantic Quadrant) to Nicrosil Feruchemy. With the workaround the Souther made into the Medalions I think this possibility is really unlikely or they would be able to performe some "TLR level feat" quite easly and the BoM will be mostly a relique and not a overpowered weapon.
  12. Here I come. Yata 1. It's a bit older but I don't have too recent photo 2. mmm probably you will call me Francis...It's the international traslation of my name. 3. Earthsea, it's weird but it's a book that make me think...I like to see the Fantasy before everyone started to copy Tolkien. 4. My good memory for WoB and Realmatic Understanding are my contribution to the comunity (I have also a project to help the Italian Comunity but I have not enough time), I am also knowed for my bad English (or for the more polite of you "my weird choose of words" 5. I found a reference to a great AMA on Coppermind and I arrived here, then I made it my home (also if I spend little time out of the Cosmere Section). 6. In the last months my time on the Shard dropped to a single hour at day. Before I spent at least 4-5 hours at day here. 7. For the timezone, I live mostly when the main part of the Shard is sleeping. This made me appear in almost every posts because at the morning I read all the topics/replies you made while I am sleeping and mostly put some of mine in many of them. 8. Brandon is an amazing worldbuilder (I am an amateur in that art) and his storyline are really solid. I am a guy who extrapolate a lot from the text, so Brandon's style is perfect for me. Often other writers write with a superb "form" (I am unsure of the English word) but the book's content itself is really poor. 9. I don't know, maybe he would try to reduce the good endings in his books. I understand that he wrote about what he likes. But sometimes he is too optimistic in his ending (but if the things will go as I think, Stormlight could be the exception to this). 10. Probably a mix of Jasnah and Kaladin. Mainly Jasnah with Kaladin's bad habits 11. My favorite food is pizza and I own a Youtube channel but it isn't in English so nobody here would understand a word 13. You want to know where the 12. is ? well... There is always another Secret
  13. I know and indeed is the reason I said "it's really circumstantial" but Nightblood obliterate something also with a simple scratch something extremelly different from we saw with physical and spiritual damage. But yeah, this is just an idea of mine and could be horribly wrong
  14. I will answer only to the 1) as the others already covered greatly the other two: - FIrst of all, yeah pure Lerasium seems a better investiment than his alloys but it's ok after all the effects don't have (and they arean't) balanced. - Secondly, if there could be differences in Mistborn's Allomancy and Mistborn's Allomancy that could make the first one better than a second one in some specific contexts (I made a topic about the Safety of both some time ago, for example) - Third, as Hwiles said, with a set amount of Lerasium you could give you the power of a Lerasium Mistborn or make an alloy who will give a stronger Misting power with the same amount of amount of Lerasium avaliable (for example, imagine to take a Lerasium bead and turn it into a Brass-Lerasium alloy. You will gain a Soother power far beyond Elend one. Maybe a TLR's level...quite cool). -Fourth, you could managing better little amount of Lerasium. With a single bead you could turn a guy into a Lerasium Mistborn, guy guy into regular Mistborn, but maybe craft 4 Misting....again in some context it could be better. Regard the point 3 and 4, I think an alloy have a good amount of the base metal in it (for example Steel is 55 iron/25 carbon, Electrum is 45 gold/55 Silver and Durallumin is 96% Alluminium) so you could not really go too further than "from an X amount of Lerasium I could get 2X amount of Lerasium alloy"
  15. Yeah the Atium Compounding is probably the worst way to get an extended lifetime for a Worldhopper also if you have the right power to do it. Breath are the cheapest and easy way (before someone try to tell me that a Breath is worth a lot, try to think to the value of Atium you have to burn to keep yourself alive with Atium Compounding) and still the 17th Shard prefer to use another way. This suggests us the time dilatation tech they use is still easier to get than buy a lot of Breath
  16. I think that in both of Animate or Inhanimate object, the Cognitive's destruction will carry an "obliterate" effect on the Physical. The only clue about is really circumstantial therefore I could see how other people may think in another ways. In the Cosmere (as far as I could rememeber) we know only an istance of Cognitive's damage... yeah I am talking of our beloved Destroy-Evil ex Machina. Nightblood cuts on all three Realms, while we know already the effect of a physical and Spiritual damage (We see this every time with a Shardblade), we didn't see otherwhere else the effect of a Cognitive damage. The target hits by Nightblood (without his cover) is completely destroyed. I think this happen because Nightblood destroy the Cognitive and the physical simply collapse. To be honest I also think that destroying or even damaging the Cognitive is really hard as for his own nature is a "flexible" target and problably less likely to be hurt by something.
  17. For now the only "reverse Compounding" we could imagine is through Nicrosil-Feruchemy (and to be honest I like this). Unluckly we don't know if TLR used an artificial way to boost his allomancy (other than having an overolming raw power to begin with), in theory He could produce or retrive some Nicrosil during his Ascension or from Scadrial's old days (where the technology was far advanced) but I think he didn't this. For now, I don't think TLR used "reverse compounding" or other specific technique to be as Strong as we saw. His "basic Allomantic power" (thanks to his auto re-build with the Well) and going further in the Savantism could be enough in theory. To me that WoB is wrongly extrapolated because at the WoB's time we believed TLR used a Lerasium's bead to gain his Allomancy (and therefore a comparation to a Lerasium Mistborn's feats was relevant). While now we know TLR rebuild himself with the Well's Power to be the strongest Allomancer he could....So TLR's base Allomancy could be twice or more stronger than Elend's one as far as we know
  18. Yata

    Age on Roshar

You have also to notice that Roshar's people has an improved health thanks to the amount of ambiental Investiture and therefore they age a bit better rather than our world (you may notice how fit Dalinar is for a man of his age for example)
  19. Like Extesian said, I remember the "rarely WoB" but as "rarely" is hard to quantificate...I added the hypotetitcal case of others new Vessels ;-) I will use this post to add something to the OP, there are people who believe Edgli (Endowment's vessel) is a Dragon
  20. I becomed a Midnight essence .... The Desolation is coming
  21. All the original Vessels are Yolish and there are three sapient races on Yolen. Humans, Dragon and Shodel (I am unsure about the last name) so some of the Vessels could be Dragon or Shodel.... Of course this is true only for the original ones, if the Shards changed owner the new Vessel could be almost everything avaliable.
  22. Well some idioms starts for very weird reasons, I suppose this is true for all the languages. To be honest, there are at least other two Italians here on the Shard, but I have to keep their identities secret...This is a burden for me alone Something like that ? "Dov'è il bagno ?/Dove posso trovare il bagno ?/Potrebbe indicarmi il bagno?/Il Bagno per favore ?/ WWWWWWWWWWCCCCCCCC?"
  23. Yeah "Pesce d'aprile" is exactly "April's Fish" traslated. About the deep meaning, I honestly don't know it. I tried to make some research to answer you but it seems the Connection's origin is quite lost in time. I always believed it's a metaphor. Like the Fisherman prepares a bait and waits for his victim (the fish) to arrive and fails to recognize the trick....In the same way the prank is set to fool the poor guy. Probably every other trap related metaphor would be good too...But the fish's one is the less cruel in the average mindset and therefore more acceptable in a social context. Of course this is just how I see the April's fish's Origins, I can't be sure. PS: In the last months I spent really little time on the Shard, sorry for the late reply...I saw the message just some minutes ago
  24. There is no clue in the text about the "form matters" for a Feruchemical charge context. The only tangential clue (the Medallion's Forms) seems to go aganist this...but it's real tangental as nobody except the Southerns and Rashek had really to bother about Metalmind's full capacity. We know the amount of metal matter (it's really meaningless if te "mass" or the "volume" are the key factor, as the Metal's structure is setted by the Magic System and the two parameters are bound one to another without too margin.
  25. He could have use some Strenght already in the PewterMind and weaken himself just for a surplus. Anyway you have to notice that End-positive/Neutral/Negative means a specific thing, the User's Investiture Balance and in this context the Feruchemy is End-Neutral.
