Brandon’s inconsistent use of terminology?
Yata replied to Fanghur Rahl's topic in Cosmere Discussion
As far as I could tell Brandon is truly inconsistent mostly with the use of "soul" that sometimes is referred to cognitive and sometimes to the Spiritual. I don't even blame him too much for that, the inconsistency came from WoB most of the time. Moments where he need to answer on the spot and with people who are probably not "advanced reader / Cosmere nerd" so he oversimplify stuffs -
Therory: Where he is and why she can do things
Yata replied to FeltWillSaveUs's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It is a bit weird to explain but one thing is the Investiture that compose someone and one thing is the connection to some Shard. Kel when he was alive he had a strong Connection to Preservation (after all he is a Mistborn) but still this Connection to Preservation was relative small compared to his connection to Ruin (that come of nothing more than his mindset). When Kelsier died....mostly nothing changed, until he was struck at the Well. He expends one year (or maybe two, I can't remember) into the Well assorbing Preservation's Investiture. From Brandon a Cognitive Shadow (Kel in our case) happens when someone is so Invested that the Investiture replace his actual Soul (that is still made of Investiture but... some loosely connected one, Honestly I can't define what is different from the average Soul's investiture and the CS's one) and the Investiture now part of the SHadow is tied to the Realms and allows to this new being to survive and resist the Beyond. Returning to Kelsier, whatever he was composed before (51% Preservation, 49% Ruin for example) is now no more, as his own being is simply the result of the Preservation's Investiture obtained at the Well that replace his old self. Lift met multiple times the Bridge 4. I don't think there is an explic mention of the two of them meeting. But Rock was truly curious about Radiants' spren and Lift is also a radiant knowed to sneak around always searching food..... Rock can't resist her. -
Be careful in stating stuffs about "shard numbers" as far as we know there isn't something like that in the Cosmere. Our better guest (and still is uncertain) is about the planets to have weird number constants in them and the Shards in residence in a some way inherited that. Under this assumption 16 was the Preservation's number in the same way it was the Ruin's number. TLR didn't make the Lerasium (also if honestly he could during his Ascension) and the Lerasium wasn't even at the Well's location. Rashek needs to seek it and found it to later exploit it for his purposes. About who made the Lerasium, is unknown. My theory is a previous Hero but it's possible Preservation simply produced it as key components for his plan

Does Adolin need Maya's Shardplate to revive her?
Yata replied to pixiehawk's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The brokeness kept returning in this topics. The only real Spiritual requirement for be a Radiant is having cracks in your Soul for the Spren to apply to. There is no need of an extremely or long lasting condition to have those. We have instances of people having that simply for an hard birth (something they could not even remember) or for be badly beaten a single time -

Therory: Where he is and why she can do things
Yata replied to FeltWillSaveUs's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah for Lift to be bonded with Kel doesn't make sense to start with. But if we want to push for evidence aganist. Nobody between Lift herself, Wyndle (someone junctioned to her soul), the Stormfather (who realized in a moment the ties she has with the Old magic), Rock (able to see always cognitive entities) seems to notice this foreign ghost attached to her. Notice also that Kelsier is a sociopath murder while Lift is a pacifist who isn't even able to gave an edge to her blade. Last, Kelsier as CS is something composed at 100% of Preservation. No Ruin investiture in him... It's not really relevant but just to clarify -
Odium more worried of Harmony than his current Adversaries
Yata replied to goody153's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Cosmere stories have to be stand alone and not require to have read something else. A foreign god who arrive and does stuffs is a metaphorical and literal Deus ex machina. Much more, Harmony as he is now will be probably unable to recreate Scadrial or regardless he would have no reason to restore the condition they have now. Remember also that from the prospective of Mistborn, closing the Era2 with Scadrial destroyed (someone I doubt is in Trell possibilities) and god remaking it... Would be simply repeating the Era1 ending. On a last note, someone before said Sazed isn't twisted as ATI and Leras... This is true, but he holds the Shards only from 300 years. It's a reasonable less time than the 10000 years Ati and Leras did it... Over time of Sazed would remain less and less. He already is very different from the man we know in Era1, it's just the beginning -
About the "Bavadin is a dragon because those are shapeshifters and we knows she appear with multiple forms in different places", in OB we saw another Shard easily able to appear in different ways at the same time based by the observer. We also know that mostly every time a Shard "shows itself" actually the visible part is just a well made puppet made to interact with mortals without annihilate them. I will not point toward Bavadin= dragon only for her hobby

@Calderis I think our brave cultivationspren have right. But in a terrible letheral way. Before Tanavast death, Cultivation and him cared about mortals and all. Now without him (maybe for the pain she suffered, maybe because he was the moral compass in the couple) she don't care of mortals anymore. But this doesn't change her attitude towards Odium and the needs of smashing him. She simply changed modus operandi and focus all his efforts to win the war with Odium.

I found the Eshonai's death truly brilliant. I liked Eshonai and I was shocked to see her dead in the first Interlude. The point is, I (and you all) was biased by the old (and abused) stereotype of the "if there is no corpse, the character survived" when honestly, the chances of Eshonai to survive were almost none. She fall into a chasm with a badly injured leg just before an highstorm. Maybe You don't like it, but you can't say her death wasn't foreshadowing.

The "push investiture to resist aging" isn't the only way Immortality/longevity could be obtained. For example, you could change your spirit-web to make your birth move along the timeline. In this way, you are always young because your soul doesn't fight to restore to your rightful age. Sure this would need Investiture too, but a constant expenditure instead of an incremental one (like the Rashek's case). There is also an hypotesis I proposed years ago, that Breath pushes you far from humanity and from the humanity standard. Your soul at that point tries more loosely to follow the "age-check". This reaches a limit with the fifth Heighening, where your Soul doesn't even try to check the compliance to "humanity standards"

There are multiple degree of Connections between two entities, using the same subject Agent used. Kelsier has a strong Connection to Ruin and a Strong connection to Preservation due his heritage and snapping into a Mistborn. Sazed developed a strong Connection to Ruin during the events of HoA, before that moment Sazed was only mid Connected to Ruin for the Scadrial Standard. To resume, two entities could have degree of Connections to each others. Probably beyond a certain threeshold this Connections are meaningfully and beyond another one is defined as "Strong Connected". But until the people don't start to investigate on this matter is mostly impossible to say something for sure

Like others already pointed Azure's Blade is simply an example of a normal outcome for a Type IV. Nightblood is something oddity that happen for whatever sequence of weird events (willing or unwilling) that made him the overeccitable Eldrich Abomination we all love. Es example: Here Brandon stated how making another Nightblood would be extremely hard. While we know from Warbreaker Annotations that if the war was truly started in the book. Yestrell would mass produce Type IV for the Idrisians to fight Halladren.

I am not sure to understand the question. As argent stated we know what the Inkspren are about in their relationship with mortals. But I assume the quality they seek is a byproduct of themself. So probably Inkspren rappresent control or logic or rationality

Yeah I misunderstood the OP

@Subvisual Haze Cultivation didn't sealed in any way his Connection to Nergaoul, He still felt the Thrill for the whole time after that. He simply tried to avoid that and his bond with the Stormfather allowed him another degree of protection to mostly seal off the Thrill for him under normal circumstances.

We don't know how old is First of the sun's perpendicularity. Montainking hypothesis could be correct but as far as we know the perpendicularity could be born after the Shattering, maybe caused by the Autonomy manipulation on the planet itself. By the way, First of the Sun is considered to be a mystery as it has a stable perpendicularity without a shard in residence there (at least is how scholar believe the planet's situation is). This implies that there are not pre-shattering perpendicularies known around. If that was the case, First of the Sun would not be so interesting for academic purposes

It's possible that be high invested+ deeply cracked allow you to interface with the Spiritual Realm in this way not too nice. Of course in this, Dalinar case seems out of place, an oddity. But if we use the WoB about Kaladin be so skilled with the Spear as a child as result of the future skill he would develop thanks to Syl bond and the time indipentant spiritual nature. It's possible Dalinar and the screams fit that too. Dalinat had connections to tje spiritual a not magic user has not, because he will bond the Stormfather and this affect his soul in a sort of retroactively way.

Taldian is surelly a major Shardworld for the raw amount of Investiture avaliable. Taldain is letherally in a constant sunbath of Investiture, probably on average Taldain is more Investiture richer than Roshar.

Probably Darkside, I can't really stand in Dayside culture. By the way, there isn't so much trouble in living in any of the two side... just preferences

Honestly I don't understand how the breading program could result into a Fullborn. I could see them producing a Mistborn someway or a full feruchemist and this is already quite hard. But to produce a Fullborn with requires two magics that contrast each other to manifest both fully and in the greatest magnitude. It's almost impossible. Much more if you start with low level "material" Honestly I think that even TLR's sons could be born as Fullborn.

There is a bit of confusion here. The Mists started to snap people just after Ruin's release as part of Preservation's plan. So whatever it happened before is irrelevant. Also there is no difference in be exposed to the daymist or nightmist... It is exactly the same mist and same effect. Also I read somewhere here the mist started to last during day because preservation wasn't forced to keep ruin trapped, this is also false. The mist started to last longer because Ruin pushed to do it... ATI gaves them more strength to make people freaking out. Preservation's effort during the whole trilogy is mostly the same... Indeed probably Leras had to force himself more once Ati was free and you could see how fast his consuming happened once the "prison" (that isn't actual a prison but regardless) was no more. TLTR: the mists started to Mistsnap people only after a certain moment and started slowly. Demoux was out in the mist before that moment so it was not affected.

For the magnitude involved probably an Herald using Illumination (so Shalash or Pali). Unless it was a group effort, a lot of Radiants with a Bondsmith coordinator

Mraizes role and the powers of his Aviar
Yata replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
Lift is something so odd to be almost unreplicable without a willing design. I could see the beasts as able to feel the worldhoppers while they are in the CR (if they aren't in a protected area) but for sure they are unable to hurt them. Notice also that even Lift can't touch stuffs in the CR, she is able to touch Spren that transitioned in the PR and if the OB's ending could be use as proof, she can't even touch every spren, as she letherally phased into a Spren's body in a scene
