Random questions about Stormlight world (minor spoilers)
Zas678 replied to Jemaclus's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have a random thought, and I didn't want to make a new thread. You all remember the part where Syl says that she hates Dalinar's shardblade, and she's glad that he got rid of it? I finally figured out why. It is because she, as a Honorspren, binds things together. What do Shardblades do? They seperate things. They either break the bond between molecules, making a lifeless item fall off, or it seperates the soul from an object. What could be more horrendous to a spren who is all about connecting? (On a side note to support this, didn't Syl call herself a Bindspren in the ARC? I may be misremembering.) -
Hmm. I was thinking about what The Almighty said at the end of WoK. "You may be able to get him to pick a champion. We are bound by certain rules." Thinking about this, I was reminded of Vin and Marsh, and after Vin became Preservation, Elend and Marsh. Will we see some epic duel between characters? It seems like Dalinar has been chosen by the almighty, but it could be Kaladin too. Who might represent Odium? Who is so focused on Hate that it will overtake them? Perhaps we will have to wait and see.

I also think that once you take a shard, you can't take another. I think that Sazed was able to take two because he took them both at the same time. Maybe Endowment could give up his/hers to someone, but I think that's it. But that's just a theory I have.

I would like to announce that I just won Mr. Congeniality for my school. Hoorah! I now have something in common with Sandra Bullock.

It actually may have been in the Annotations. If I remember correctly, Brandon said something like "Lerasium grants Mistborn powers, but really, that's a side effect." When we started theorizing on TWG about it, Peter commented saying "I asked if he wanted to change the words, and he said no." Peter thought that "side effect" have the wrong impression. So, from what I've gathered, this is what burning Lerasium does. It dramatically increases your connection to Preservation, and that connection to Preservation turns you into a Mistborn.

17th Shard Compared to Other Forums?
Zas678 replied to Silus - Shard of Flame's topic in General Discussion
Someone's WRONG on the internet?! That NEVER happens. Chaos's life on TWG- -
I'm thinking it's slightly more complicated than all Spren being splinters of Honor. We've seen in Mistborn where there was a group of Splinters that seemed to have aspects of more than one Shard (Ruin and Preservation had their own powers, and there was a third that seemed to be made up of aspects of both). So, I'm thinking that Spren are probably Splinters of multiple Shards. Honor and Cultivation seem to be the most likely suspects, but I'm not ruling out a Shard we haven't met yet. On a less thread-hijacky topic, there's no reason that the voice in the storm can't be Honor/Almighty. I'll grant that it seems to be interactive, but Honor's chats with Dalinar seemed to be interactive at first as well. I'm going to make an objection many of you have heard before. Magic Users are not Splinters. Some (like Returned) are, but normal allomancers, awakeners, and Elantrians aren't. I think that Splinters are pieces of the Shard that are endowed with the Shard's own power. Most magic users don't actually use the Shard's power. They use the Shard as a "pathway" to the Power of Creation (or at least that's the case for allomancy) and use that. The only confirmed Splinters that we know of is what makes the Returned Returned. Here's sources:

I think that 1 or 3 may be true, but I don't think 2 would be. Why? Because it's too boring! It makes a lerasium spike irrelevant, since you could just burn a tiny bead of lerasium to get mistborn powers. Plus, isn't Atium able to steal any of the powers? Hmm. So what would a Lerasium spike do? 1. It could give you a Breath, like in Warbreaker. It could steal part of your soul and give it to whoever has the breath. 2. It could turn you into a mistborn llama I'm with Chaos, and I believe that the Atium that we see is pure Atium. I wish that we knew what Lerasium did Feruchemically! If Atium has a time attribute in allomancy, and a time attribute in feruchemy, and a wild card in Atium, then Lerasium might have the opposite correlation. EDIT- Chaos was right (see below). So I changed Atium to Lerasium, which is what I meant.

I like Eerongal's theory. I don't think that magic users are all Splinters. I think that some (aka Returned) are, but they are the exception rather than the rule. I do think that every magic user has a connection to their shard, but that Splinters are more connected. They have been (or are) pieces of the Shard itself. I think.

I don't know. I do know that the Alloy of Law, which is hundreds of years after Mistborn, and about the same time as Warbreaker, is before WoK.
-
That's... great? Good for you?

Quite a bit of this is theory on my part, but there's some fact in there to.

Definately! I think that would be very valuable.

"Speak again the ancient oaths and return to men the Shards they once bore" Hmm. When I first read this line in the book (page 997, during the first/last vision Dalinar has), I assumed the Almighty was talking about shardblades, and talking about distributing them fairly or something like that. But no. He says "the Shards". His whole speech is full of Cosmere references. What do they mean? "This isn't about me. It's about all of them" Slowly a light began to grow dim. Than another. "Speak again the ancient oaths and return to men the Shards they once bore." "The Knight Radiants must rise again." My interpretation? The two lights going out are symbolic of Aona and Skai being killed and having their shards be splintered. But. I think the Almighty died, and Honor didn't splinter. I think that perhaps a Sliver (maybe a Herald?) took it up and is keeping a hold on it. I think the Almighty wants someone from Roshar to take it up. Possible one of the PoVs (Szeth would make an awesome Honor). Either that, or that there are other Shards that need new people to take them up. But I think we will see another... what are we calling what happened to Sazed? An Ascension? Perhaps (but not likely), when he says Unite them, he doesn't mean Alethi, or even Roshar. I think he may be talking about the Shards. He wants the Shards to stop squabbling among themselves (we're looking at you Ati and Leras), and to fight off Odium.

Knights Radiant's Shardplate and blades *SPOILERS*
Zas678 replied to Aggrax's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe it is just Oathbringer. Maybe she doesn't like that sword specifically. The only trouble with having it be a nonlethal tool, is that its a six foot sword. Not exactly the saftest thing in the book. As for why it cuts nonliving (or non sentinent) things, while making people's eyes burn (killing them). I think that Shardblades essentially seperate things. They either seperate the spiritual connection (sort of like how he's explained Gravity to be a spiritual connection to the earth) the atoms have together (cutting through it), or if the object is sentinent (living), it separates the soul from the object. Perhaps Shardblades were originally given to man to help during the Desolations, but then the Alethi decided they wanted to use them to further their own ends. That dishonor of misusing them is what Syl finds disgusting about them. Probably. Maybe. -
Wow! That's incredible. I think I have a new wallpaper.

And if Hoid started wearing Rock? Pretty sure people wouldn't value either of them too highly.
