  1. Oh Wow! I completely forgot about that quote! That works it in quite well.
  2. I'm up for revising. The reason that they're in so many different formats is because so many different people collected them at different times. I'll come up with a policy in a bit of how I want to do it. As for the updating part, I plan on current users knowing when content comes out, as well as seeing the new posting dates (instead of being Brandonothology 9/11, it would change to whenever the next one comes out, probably 11/11.) The page descriptions should be an easy thing too. I'll probably keep the Q&A chronologically because Brandon is so spoiler conscious, and because it's a lot easier to keep old customers than keeping new customers.
  3. I can shed a little light on some of the things: And Brandon says...
  4. I'll find it!
  5. I agree. The only reason why I didn't mention it is because we have no evidence of Shallan saying any Oaths or Bonds yet.
  6. It's done. Version 3.0 of the Brandonothology is up and running. The new link is https://sites.google.com/site/brandonothology/ , quite a bit better than that mess of a URL that was Google Docs. I updated it with the Reddit 2.0 interview (Terez's version, though I may change that), and I also compiled the digital versions of the annotations that Chaos and an Heather (a user from TWG) made. So what do you guys think?
  7. Hey FRRose. For your transcript, did you get all the questions Brandon answered? I'm debating whether to use yours or Terez's transcripts.

  8. When I get enough time, you'll see it seperated with the rest of the Brandonothology in the new format.
  9. It depends on what level you take "Honor" as a name to influence the magic system. If you say that Honor's power can only be used in Honorable ways, than the Truthspren don't make any sense. Someone can be a horrible person, but be very honest about it. But we know that this isn't the case, because an Allomancer (using Preservation's power) can do horrible terrible damage (i.e Vin). Instead, we've learned recently from Brandon that the Name of a Shard doesn't determine the intentions of the magic, it determines the way the magic works for the user. In other words, the Name of a Shard determines the how, not the why. So, an Allomancer can do terrible damage, but the magic system still works through Preservation- the Allomancer isn't using any of their own energy. Awakeners Endow a piece of their soul into an object, giving it "life". And Honor's magic, through the spren, works by the people following certain virtues. For Shallan, it's honesty. For Kaladin, it's honor. A certain definition of Honor is keeping commitments that you have kept. Shallan is committed to truth and knowledge, and so she gets Truthspren. Kaladin is committed to honor and protecting, so he gets an Honorspren. That's how it Probably works. Maybe. PS-Chaos, I'm a ton more comfortable with the new Intent, with the Name determining the function instead of the Name determining the Intent of the users.
  10. Though it would be the perfect way to end a Desolation. (Assuming Jasnah is right) "Everyone... man your Buckets!!!" "3, 2, 1, POUR!!!"
  11. One need only look at the aftermath of his brief visit to Sel to see proof of what I say. In case you have turned a blind eye to that disaster, know that Aona and Skai are both dead, and that which they held has been Splintered. Many people took that to mean that Aona and Skai's shards Splintered into Seons and Skaze, so when Brandon was asked the following: "Did Aona and Skai die before the Reod?" He answered: "There were Seons before the Reod." Which leads most people to believe that Aona and Skai were killed before the Reod, and the Seons and Skai are their splinters.
  12. I'm sure Hoid knows how.
  13. I'm extremely tempted to put Dragonsteel information about the Shattered Plains out there, but I don't dare...

    1. Satsuoni

      Satsuoni

      You have read it?!! damnation.

  14. There is supposed to be a Warbreaker released with all of the annotations included with it. </ post from 4 years ago> The only trouble with margin-annotations is the spoilers (not to mention the limited market). Oh! But maybe you could have flaps over spoilers. Or an index in the back. But yeah, that would be sweet to actually have. Hmm... Maybe if I ever print out the Brandonothology, I could include the annotations.....
  15. Ian, I would agree that the Nahel Bond is the bond between Shallan/Truthspren and Kaladin/Syl. However, I don't think that Honorspren is the name for all spren that make Bonds. I think it's just the name for Syl. Why? Because it seems like the Truthspren care that much about Shallan's honor- just about her truthfullness. I think if they could, they would love to make a Bond with a completely vicious unhonorable person who tells the truth all the time. Syl, on the other hand, as an Honorspren, would hate being connected to someone like that. She would much rather make a Nahel Bond with Kaladin, who may lie sometimes but is honorable. The Nahel Bond is the bond that gives you the powers of the Knights Radiant, from Windrunning to Soulcasting to whatever else is a power. However, there is a difference between the Nahel Bond and Honor Spren.
  16. Except that isn't how it works. I don't decide that I want your power- You decide that you're going to give me your power. True, usually in Dahkor sense that's because I'm telling you to give me your power, but still the energy is still being given up rather than commanded. Oh wait- I see what you're saying now. You're saying that once the power goes from person A to person B, than person B is dominating person A's power. That makes sense, but I still think that it's the transfer of power that is most important. EDIT- grammar EDIT EDIT- speling of grammer
  17. Domination sounds awesome, but I don't think it matches the magic system. How does sacrificing part of yourself cause domination? The Name of a shard determines how the magic system works for the user. So for Allomancy, none of your own power is used, so you Preserve your own power. For Hemalurgy, you have to Ruin someone else, and the net energy from Hemalurgy is less than of Allomancy. For Awakening, you have to Endow your own power on someone else, and for them to use it, they have to Endow that power to an object. For Honor, you have to make certain commitments in able to connect with the power (probably). Now for Aona, I think that having a great commitment for others or for what you are doing (or Love, or Charity, or whatever) gets you chosen by the Shaod, which allows you to give more love and service to others. On the other hand, the Fjordell (and Skaze assumably, since the Skai are heavily involved), for the Monks to work, you have to Sacrifice yourself, or part of your power, in order to get the powers of heaven put on another man. Domination may work for the culture, but not for the Shard.
  18. Umm... Actually not. Isaac isn't really on the forums much, but Inkthinker has done work on the Illustrations too. I'm pretty sure Isaac did the maps and the headings for all the books, and Inkthinker did Shallan's descriptions, as well as character illustrations for Brandon and the Mistborn RPG. I'm not sure who did Navani or the other illustrations though.
  19. Does that make A Memory of Light fanfic then?
  20. *Celebrates only being a staff member*
  21. Done! Man. That book definitely helped my Realmantic understanding.

  22. Hey! Pick me!
  23. That's actually... a remarkably good theory. I like that idea, that the Shaod is following people who either have great dedication for what they are doing, or even better, great love for what they do.
  24. You know what? I have a sneaking suspcion that aluminum is different from all the other metals in that it has no allomantic properites. I suspect that since you can't push on it, and you can push through it, I bet that the inverse is true as well. I bet that Harmony probably could see aluminum. I don't think that it has any powers, it is just the lack of a power. It has a overwhelming "vortex" of lack of power, so when Vin burns it, it does what it can to make itself balanced, and "grabs" all the power of the other metals. , thus balancing it out, and breaking it down.
  25. I don't think that an old person would have no breath, even if they were unusually sick. I still hold to the idea that the people of Nalthis are just like us. We have a breath, and they have a breath. The only difference is that they can give theirs away. So I guess my answer is that I have is that even if there is a super sick person, they still have life sense, and they still have vitality. And I think that if you had thousands of breath, they would all take a very small toll. That's why Awakeners can't get sick. Because it takes too much sickness to assault all several hundred breaths that an awakener might have.
