I don't think so. But they could write some pretty awesome philosophical books.
-
A little of both. In the morning, I'll go through the Brandonothology and find the quote. Gold Star for whoever beats me. EDIT- Also, I've got a Realmantic Question for all of you- why doesn't Wax's Steelpush "bubble" affect the stuff he's holding?

But then again, Tan may have been with Marsh. Remember the "seen Death with the spikes in his eyes?" And don't forget that Harmony has is slightly more Ruin then Preservation without the Atium mines. But I don't think he would need Atium to do that. He expected it, and wanted to give a good performance, even if it was one he could only give once.

I'll be there. Camping might be limited though. After all, I will have classes....

I think it's Vin. It makes sense. She is very Warriorish and she Ascended. In fact, she gave up the shard fighting.
-
I think that TenSoon and Marsh have been up to some mischief.... We know that TenSoon kept Kelsier's bones, and that Marsh has a good chance of being alive with his bag of atium. So what are they doing around a half-mad mortician? Also, I've spent too long looking for Hoid. I now immediately look for clues as soon as an older man is mentioned. *sigh*

Dalinar holds some powers too. Remember when protecting Elhokar against the Chasmfiend, and his Plate gets all shiny, he's too strong, even with shardplate, and he moves really fast. Adolin notices that he seems to move faster than even a person in Shardplate should.

I know that Brandon is hoping that a fan site could put together an Ars Arcanum for Way of Kings, since all it has is basic magic listings. (you know, list of most major and minor characters and cultures).
-
You know, if you wanted to see how many people on the site are using different operation systems, resolutions, speeds, etc., you could make Google Analytics a part of the site. It's pretty easy to use (it puts cookies on the computer and tracks where you go on the site).

I think that is true. I just think it's interesting that the two out of the three people with a lot of breath to spare (third being God King) are the only ones that Nightblood doesn't kill. Maybe Nightblood has grown to think that anyone with the power to use him (draw him) can't be evil, since they are the only ones with the power to destroy evil (in his mind).
-
I don't think it says. But I think that those with more breath have more control over Nightblood. The only two people that we see that don't draw Nightblood after holding it are Vivienna (who has a wealth of Breaths) and Vasher (who is a returned and has a wealth of breath.)

I've got a question or two- When non-god metals are burned Allomantically, what happens to the metals? Are they crushed into tiny specks? Is all that matter converted into energy? And how about God metals? Is Endowment male or female?
-
I can't really see how it would get vaporized. I mean there is a massive amount of energy in each milligram of matter, and if it is all expended into "slighty enhancing your senses" then that is a collossal waste of energy. Think of nuclear power plants.

I think Inkthinker is still working on the illustrations and from I've heard from him it's coming out late this year or early yet. EDIT- Never mind. There is no date on it yet. http://www.timewastersguide.com/forum/index.php?topic=6683.msg177238#msg177238 Edit Edit- For those of you not familiar with Inkthinker's work, he did the Shallan pages in WoK and also a major bulk of the images in our gallery (at the bottom of the forum). Edit Edit Edit- (isn't this fun?) Thorodir, there are pieces of the Brandonothology that are spoilerific, but most of it is pre-WoK. I'm going to reorganize it soon, so it groups it into categories rather than in a gigantic book.

Well I remember the question, even if I can't find the answer. By 'breaking up' the metal, it just means breaking it into smaller chunks of the same metal (as our digestive system usually does with most things), rather than breaking it into atomic particles, or even straight into energy. And touch isn't always needed. Doesn't Jasnah Soulcasts someone from a distance when she's getting mugged? Here it is: WoK page 534

I think it's more the second. I don't think he actually needs a mind to think. After all, he was sad when he was put in the closed because of how "dark" it was. I think that he can think by himself, but that he would much rather talk with someone. Then again, When someone is holding Nightblood (or wearing), there are no hidden thoughts. Everything one of them thinks is given to the other as well. Maybe since a sword doesn't have a physical brain to think, he needs others in order to function, but that his own memories, personality, and ideas (and development) are kept in the Cognitive Realm. His development is done very slowly (perhaps inperceptably to Vasher) because he has to do all of his thinking with others, instead of any by himself. You know what, I think that it could be possible that the first is true. Nightblood has no physical brain, so he can't do any thinking. His wealth of breaths allows him to keep his memories and share sentinence with others. After all, if a Nightblood is in the ocean, and no one's around to hear, does he make a thought? But the fact that he didn't make a plan, that there doesn't seem to ever be any change in Nightblood, seems to speak to the idea that Nightblood can't think without a brain. Now that begs the question- what if a Lifeless carried Nightblood? That would be very interesting indeed. I'm adding it to the question list.

Searching the Brandonothology... Fail. I must have thought about the question, tussled with someone about it, and then came to a conclusion. Or maybe I asked Brandon personally. Either way, it's not for sure.

My little sister, 13, has declared that she hates books. I'm determined to find one that she enjoys. She's a slow reader, which is a part of the reason why she doesn't like the books, plus she's been forced to read a lot of books by her teacher. Any suggestions?

I have a general Associates, but now am having difficulties with a major. Should I go into Biophysics (which has fascinated me)? Enineering (which is the most practical)? Computer Science (which I've always done well in and pursued indepently)? Social Studies (which I've always done well in)? Decisions, decisions, decisions....

I've got something more on Elantris- they had to be trying to make Aons in order to make them. Otherwise, their fingers would constantly be lighting up. They may not have to know the meaning behind the Aons, but they do have to be trying to make Aons. Another thing- Allomancy doesn't really use up the metal. It breaks it down, but the metal is all still there. If you want a reference, I can find one. Another thing on Cognitive- Brandon has recently said that being a magic user on Roshar is determined by what you do (or possible think), not by your genetics. These decisions could be the cognitive aspect. I am also prone to think of the Physical characteristic as being the Stormlight, with the Spiritual being the Power of Creation (or Honor/Cultivation/Odium) behind the Stormlight. Just becuase it is mystical doesn't mean that it isn't physical
-
How about this- When the "walls" of your cognitive self are lower, (i.e. you are more crazy, prone to irrational behavior, and blatant manipualtion), then other cognitive aspects can more easily intrude upon your cognitive self. Especially with a being so dependant on others cognitive aspects, such as Nightblood.

Welcome! I'm very glad that another European has joined 17th shard! I'm Zas678, and I am the compiler of the Brandonothology, a massive account of the behind the scene questions that Brandon has answered. Most of our insights come from those answers, or the interpretations of those answers. You should look at it! And if you want a basic outline of the Cosmere, you should look at Cosmere 101 in the General Theories forum. It's pretty basic, and I don't think it has any major spoilers for WoK. I'll double check. Thorontir, I think you'll like it here. Especially since you're an engineer, and so you like seeing how things work out in a very technical way. You know, I find that Misborn 3 gives the biggest insight into the Cosmere so far. Especially with Sazed's epigraphs (the little header things). Thorondir, I've got a question- where does your name and image come from? Is it a specific reference to a fantasy character, or just an old RPG character?

A Cookie made for Selia falling from far far above....

One thing about Spren- Dalinar doesn't see a single one in any of his visions. Although Nohaden talks about Honorspren, there is no other evidence to show that non-sentinent spren are around before then.

Okay, I'M having hindsight bias. It just makes me feel so much more right!
