Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins
Patar replied to Zathoth's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I have never been more inspired to not do my work in my entire life. In all seriousness though, no matter how well I do on this assignment, I'm not going to regret putting it off. I had the time of my life just messing around in the snow. As you said, I'm not going to remember studying, I'm going to remember the times I went exploring in caves, had a shopping cart jousting tournament, or had a giant snowball fight with dozens of other people. I'd take something like that over studying any day. -

Our University cancelled classes due to "dangerous conditions" (us Georgians really need to learn to handle snow/ice better). This was pretty much my day: I woke up, and my roommate told me that classes were cancelled for today. I thought, Sweet! I can use this time responsibly and catch up on some of the work that I've missed! I then proceeded to wander about in the snow for four hours. By the time I got back, my hands and feet were freezing, so I took a nice shower. Alright, I thought, Fun time is over. Time to get this work done. So, of course, I took a nap. I woke up an hour or so later when my roommate busted into our room saying how there was about to be a huge snowball fight in a field nearby, so I continued to put of my work (Can you blame me though? It's a giant snowball fight!). The work remains undone to this moment, and it's looking like it's going to remain that way for some time longer. I know this is a terrible idea, but I'm kind of banking on classes being cancelled tomorrow too -
What are you playing right now?
Patar replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
For the most part I don't really mind reading to much in games. As for graphics, I'm not super picky when it comes to how the game looks. If it does feel to dated, I suppose I could find a mod that makes it look more appealing. Now I definitely have to check it out, since you are both praising it as the best Elder Scrolls game yet! -

I've been thinking about downloading The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind after I finish up Oblivion (if that ever happens). Can anybody who has played both let me know if it's worth it? I have heard that Morrowind is MUCH harder, but that I can work through on my own. And does it hold up well? -

Slytherin all the way -
This was a very well put together theory, and the pun in the title made be chuckle. I don't necessarily believe that Vin will be coming back to life, but I can't help that you make some solid points. I'm also not entirely sure on the Realmatics stuff, so I won't really delve into that. I do have a few thoughts, however. I think most of us are in agreement that Kelsier isn't quite done yet, and that he'll have a role to play sometime in the future. Whether or not he is a cognitive shadow or reincarnated when that happens, we will just have to wait and see. And this sounds like something that Kelsier would want to do. I can see him wanting to linger around for a few hundred years, wanting to cause trouble. I can't really say the same thing for Vin. I think that she is happy with Elend, and unless something terrible were to happen, I can't say for certain that Vin would WANT to come back to life. Maybe if events outside of her control made her, that would be a different story, but I don't see her doing it willingly. She's had a rough life, I think she deserves some rest. That being said, I wouldn't mind if she came back. Vin is one of my favorite characters ever, and as long as she had a good reason for coming back, and that reason made sense, I'd be thrilled to see her resurrected. Once again, this was VERY well put together. Well done

Apologies, Guivere. A few more questions: 1. Physically, what does a zenith look like? (Sorry if you've said this and I missed it). 2. Why are you ashamed of being called Zenith -37? Is it due to you being a prototype, or perhaps because it gives you no self-identity? 3. Was the name Guivere given to you by The Emperor, or did you chose it yourself?

Zenith-37, you say you are a failed prototype of divinity turned spy. If you can, could you detail what this means?

You stated earlier that the environment is very swampy and amphibious. Are there any other prevalent ecological differences between Jewel Supernal and Earth?- 24 replies

When I saw this thread pop up, I immediately thought, Oh jeez, let's see how this goes. I should've known better, this is the Shard, after all. This was said multiple times, but this has been an absolute pleasure to read through. A quick note: Being an atheist in a relatively Christian community, I tend not to talk about religion to much. It just feels... kinda awkward to me. Since I'm not used to discussing it, if some of what I say doesn't seem to make sense or seems scattered, sorry. I really hope this doesn't offend anyone. I don't think it will, since this is a very mature community, but if it does, I really am sorry. On the topic of changing mindsets, here is a bit of my story. I was raised Catholic. Went to church (just about) every Sunday, attended classes over the Summer, all that stuff. As I grew older, it just... didn't feel right to me. It was then, I was maybe fifteen or so, that I thought really hard about what I believed and who I was. It took me MONTHS to do. It was probably one of the hardest things that I've ever done, going against what I was raised to believe for fifteen years. And in the end, I decided that I didn't believe. That being said, I don't have a problem with religion at all. I find them fascinating. I'm taking a History of World Religion course this semester, and I'm really looking forward to it! I do want to put my input into the atheist and agnostic discussion. I see an atheist as someone who firmly believes that there is no god, while someone who is agnostic is more of a skeptic; they don't believe that there is enough information one way or another, so they chose to not take a stance on the whole issue (that's just the way I see it). While I can't say with 100% certainty that there is no god, I definitely lean one way. Anyways, that's just my take on the matter. I love how civil this discussion has been (despite not being active for a few months). If it does pick back up, I hope it stays as mature as if was a few months ago

Peacegiver: Epic Powers: Can emit an aura of peace around him, which instantly puts people at ease. When engaging in conversation with people, they open up and find him incredibly easy to talk to. When people look at him, he puts them at ease. When people speak of him (without him being present) people become calm. For vanillas this is practically mind control, but while interacting with epics he operates more like a skilled soother/rioter. His Prime Invincibility is that when someone is trying to kill him, he can use mind control to make someone view him as perfect, and they can't bring themselves to kill him. That is the only thing he can do when mind controlling them. Night Terror: Epic Powers: His power operates similar to the way Peacegiver's does, except he can emit auras of fear. He can cause illusions of things people fear (spiders, roaches, etc.). If he knows an epics weakness, he can fill that epic's mind with that fear. He CAN NOT inherently know what weakness an epic has. Similar to Peacegiver, when people speak of him or view him, they become scared. I've changed his Prime Invincibility to resurrection. When he resurrects, he briefly becomes more powerful, becoming a "living nightmare" of sorts. Peacegiver and Night Terror are brothers. Here a scene of the two of them using their powers.

Are there other sentient species on Jewel Supernal, or are you the only ones? If there are other species, do you get along with them, or are they your enemies? How large is Jewel Supernal compared to our Earth? What are the Supernalian's religious beliefs? What kind of structure does the Supernalian government have? Are there any humans that have influenced or inspired your race? Would a man like Batman be considered a hero or villain in your society?- 24 replies

Noted! I'll try avoiding using that kind of terminology in the future. After rereading that paragraph... you're absolutely right. I don't know why I used his name so much in that paragraph. Anyways, thanks for the feedback you guys!

Thanks! I'm looking back at the chapter, and despite the fact that it's a bit short, I like the way I ended it. I'll probably end up having two viewpoints in the next chapter, and I think it will make more sense to do so that way.

So I don't even know where to begin with this. I LOVED the first season of Daredevil. Jessica Jones was alright, but it just didn't even come close to Daredevil, for me at least. There was a new "Coming Soon" video posted for it. It isn't exactly a trailer, but it sets the mood for the next season. And oh man, it gave me the chills. Here it is. Seriously, I thought this was awesome. And it's releasing in the middle of March! That's way earlier than I would have thought. Anyways, they seem to be hyping up Punisher a lot. If you look closely at the wall, you can see the Punisher Skull faded behind all of the characters. So what do you guys think of this little snippet? I'm hoping we get a trailer sometime soon.

Upvotes are back! At least for me they are -
So I have a question about switching viewpoints mid-chapter. That question pretty much being: When is it acceptable? I just finished writing a chapter, and looking back on it, it feels a bit short. I was considering lengthening the chapter by combining it with the chapter after it, but it would be from a different character's viewpoint. Would that be ok to do? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I'm a bit new to this writing thing

I had it working automatically, and working on other epics. I do want to state again that it is NOT full mind control, just mind control to not kill him.

Hey guys, sorry to bring back epics we discussed awhile ago, but I've made some changes to my epics (Peacegiver and Night Terror). Should I just list their full bios with the changes, or just list what the changes are?
