  1. Well Brandon himself has called him a psychopath and that perfectly fits with how I view him. I have worked for one before and the problem is they can completely appear sincere in caring for people and I am sure they actually do to an extent but with the inability to have empathy not sure you can say they really "care" for people in general. Now does that mean he is bad? Not sure you can really say that either and I do not think Brandon wanted to portray him as evil or bad. He does love to develop "grey" characters though. Many threads have been posted about is this character "bad" and it can be a mixed bag for sure on peoples views. I guess "bad" or "good" is really dependent on which side you are on just like in a war most of the time each side thinks they are right and justified. I wouldn't really consider someone described as a psychopath as "good" but depending on their motivations they can do good things. This can get philosophical pretty quick in a "the ends justify the means" kind of way. One of the things I love about the original Mistborn trilogy is the path we are taken with how we view TLR. In the beginning he is obviously the villain but as we learn more we find out things he did to protect people. Very similar to Kelsier in a way they are the same thing albeit different motivations. Brandon does a great job of creating morale confusing characters.
  2. This is my thoughts exactly. He is a sticky character spoiler wise and kind of hard to say too much (why I asked what books have been read). You also have to decide how you feel about guilt by association with him.
  3. Which books have you read?
  4. I always recommend Brian McClellan. His Powder Mage series is really good and I actually liked his second series Gods of Blood and Powder better (set in same universe can read first but better if you start with Powder Mage). He was a student of Brandon's also.
  5. Same boat here not really into things like this but man they look so freaking awesome I may have to buy the painted set. I didn't realize I could buy that separately until I read through the FAQ.
  6. Reading The Ruin of Kings. It is really confusing but I think I like it?
  7. This isn't really my thing but I have to say these look freaking amazing! Well done to everyone involved!
  8. In one way though Honorblades are superior to Shardblades. They do not require a person to bond a spren. So in that way I am not sure I would say they are inferior. Carrying multiple Honorblades can grant a user more than two surges again not inferior. We know that they are not as efficient with use of stormlight but then again they were made for Heralds that had a direct source so in this regard they may seem inferior now that Honor is dead but not when they were created. The one big advantage Shardblades have is they are not locked in to a single form when bonded to a KR so I do agree that is better although I think more of an unintentional bonus due to being bonded with a live spren. Also Brandon kind of described the Honorblades as "gen 1" and Shardblades as "gen 2" with NB being "gen3". So I kind of think of this like everything else we see slight improvements/upgrades as new generations are developed. As far as Shardplate the Heralds would not have needed this since they die and come back. Not so much for KR and I assume the spren came up with this to further protect their bonded KR as we know this was really tough for the spren when their bonded KR would die.
  9. I have enjoyed all of Michael Sullivan's books.
  10. It is an interesting question. I am going to say this was done mostly for literary and symbolic reasons. I also think that Brandon kind of realized after Mistborn a single person with every power (i.e. a full Mistborn) is a little OP. You can see it in how they are pretty much extinct currently in E2 (although I know we will see at least one in E3). So the Honorblade is a limiter to an extent. They are symbolic and cool while helping progress the story along. So many things would not have happened the way they did if the surges were not attached to them.
  11. Has anyone read The Ruin of Kings and subsequent books in the series? Looking to start something new and sounds interesting.
  12. Man those are weird books but I found I couldn't put them down and for the life of me cant explain why.
  13. Plus 1 for audio books and SA has the advantage of amazing narration by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading (Michael Kramer also does Mistborn and the pair did WoT) who fun fact are actually a married couple. I still read the physical books as well but the audio books are easy to digest while doing other things.
  14. That is what I figured. I remember it from the graphic novels being pretty disturbing and was wondering how they would do this in the show. Still really looking forward to watching the series from the trailer it looks well done.
  15. Haven't watched it yet just the trailer but guessing episode 5 is the dinner?
  16. It seemed like it to me but it has been a while so entirely possible there was more discussion I did not see.
  17. Yes there has been previous discussion about the "Stormfaker". I believe the leading theory is it is actually Ishar posing as SA and attempting to manipulate Gavilar in to doing his bidding.
  18. The images are truly amazing! I saw this side by side comparison of Hubble vs. JWST on Reddit and thought it was pretty cool. Really excited about what we will see next.
  19. It is for sure the best SW movie since Disney took over. I'd actually rank it right behind the original trilogy.
  20. Yes I completely agree with @Fezzik. The answer to that question was miss-direction by Brandon by using an in-world assumption which we know are not always 100% reliable. He has been pretty dodgy on the subject of Shallan in relation to her family/mother and I think the SA5 Prologue all but confirmed the theory some have had for a while now. I would be shocked if we do not get 100% confirmation Chana is Shallan's mother in SA5.
  21. I enjoyed your blog post! Being in Texas where we have struggled with our power grid I am an advocate for nuclear power. Good luck with your work!
  22. Just a couple somewhat relevant WoB. So hard to say for sure because we really do not know what Nightblood's limit is exactly except that it is not enough to kill a shard, enough to kill a vessel but he will get "full" from a perpendicularity. I would think he could kill an Unmade and damage but not kill Nightwatcher/Storm Father because he would get too full.
  23. Yes I fell like it would almost have to all be CGI. Taking the "Avitar" approach may be better or animated as you said. A good case to do Mistborn first since it is an earth like setting. Just need to CG the Mist Wraths, Ten Soon and some good makeup work for the Inquisitors.
  24. I'd read Warbreaker next so everything from SA is fresh on your mind (I do not think it is too spoilery to say there are some tie-ins that are interesting). Then start in with Mistborn (as amazing as SA is Mistborn is actually my favorite Sanderson series). The next and final book of Mistborn Era 2 will be out in November so this should work nicely. You can then finish up with Elantris and the shorter books (some of these are amazing btw). Obviously just my suggestions there is not really a right or wrong order.
  25. Lucky you to be reading it for the first time! RoW has my favorite Sanderson surprise twist so far. It is truly mind blowing. Do not spend too much time on here until you finish
